Dorothy Duncan

Dorothy Amna Duncan, daughter of the late Cyrus E. Blevins and Lula Bradford Blevins, was born on Oct. 22, 1913 at Hunterville and died at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Jan. 25, 2002 at the age of 88. Mrs. Duncan was of the Baptist faith, a homemaker, had lived in the Hunterville and Circle City area for 62 years before moving to Bloomfield 26 years ago. She was united in marriage to Ray S. Duncan on Nov. 30, 1935 at Dexter. Mr. Duncan preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1971. Survivors include four sons, Charles Eugene Duncan of Bernie, Doyle Ray Duncan of Afton, Jerry Dale Duncan of Essex and Jimmie Glenn Duncan of Bloomfield; by one daughter, Loretta Ferguson of Bloomfield; by three sisters, Fredia Blevins of Bernie, Imogene Lape of Parma and Faye Geno of Malden; by 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda McAnulty; by three brothers, Leland Lasater, Clyde Lasater and Elmer Lasater; by three sisters, Velva Ruth Blevins, Lovetta Mahoney and Vera Corlew. Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan 28, 2002 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Doyle Corlew officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.

Bill Walls

Bill Walls of Lilbourn, the son of Bertha Agnes Gouldman Walls and the late Walter Lee Walls, was born in Parma on Jan. 19, 1938 and died at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston on Jan. 23, 2002, at the age of 64. Mr. Walls was the owner/operator of Walls Car Sales south of Parma. He had lived in the Parma and Lilbourn areas all his life. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. On Jan. 13, 1962, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Reece in Catron, she survives of the home in Lilbourn. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Billy Joe Walls, Jr. and Damon Edward Walls, both of Parma; by one daughter, Twylia D. Walls of Parma; by four grandchildren; by his mother, Agnes Walls of Poplar Bluff; by one brother, Bob Walls of Poplar Bluff; and by one sister, Betty Swindle. Visitation and graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 12 p.m. at the Park Cemetery in Malden. Interment will follow with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Parma in charge of arrangements.

Edna W. Peters

Edna W. Peters, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Pappy Wilkerson, was born in the Oklahoma Territory on June 11, 1904 and died at the Puxico Nursing Center in Puxico on Jan. 23, 2002, at the age of 97. Mrs. Peters had lived in Missouri most of her life. She was united in marriage to William Peters in Poplar Bluff and he preceded her in death in 1977. Surviving are one daughter, Joan Lepper of Puxico; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation and graveside services will be conducted at the Puxico Cemetery on Friday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Wiley McGee of Puxico officiating. Interment will follow with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.

Glenn Hunt

Glenn A. Hunt, son of the late James Milton Hunt and Minerva Powell Hunt, was born on Jan. 29, 1910 at Dudley and died in the Woodland Manor Nursing Center in Arnold on Jan. 23, 2002, at the age of 91. Mr. Hunt was a member of the Dexter Church of Christ, but had attended the Arnold Church of Christ the past four years. He was a former trackman with Missouri Pacific Railroad, a former resident of Dexter and currently residing in Arnold. Mr. Hunt also loved to fish and gardening. He was united in marriage to Veona V. Kilmer on Dec. 20, 1933 at Dudley. Mrs. Hunt preceded him in death on Dec. 5, 1980. He then married Ruby Miller on Feb. 18, 1983 at Dexter. She preceded him in death on Dec. 4, 1996. Survivors include four sons, Ronnie Lee Hunt and Carlton Leroy Hunt, both of Arnold, Thomas Albert Wayne Hunt of Diamond Head, Miss. and Noel Nelson Hunt of Bowling Green, Ky.; by 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Besides his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, James Glendal Hunt and by one step-daughter, Irene Smith. Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 4:30 - 9 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Tim Jorgensen and Dale Grissom officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Charles Wright

Charles L. Wright of Cape Girardeau, the son of the late Cleveland Wright and Rhoda Jane Harper Wright, was born Sept. 21, 1918 in Stoddard County, Mo. and died at his residence in Cape Girardeau, Mo. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at the age of 83. He was united in marriage to Virginia Clark on Jan. 18, 1941 at Piggott, Ark., she survives of the home. Charles worked at Missouri Utilities & AmerenUE for 40 years, retiring in 1984. He was very active in his church, First Church of the Nazarene located in Cape Girardeau, where he had taught Sunday School and was past Superintendent of Sunday Schools. He was also a Ham's Radio operator. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jerry Wright of Denver, Colo. and Ron Wright of Springfield, Ill.; by one daughter, Beverly Darter of Cape Girardeau; by five grandchildren, Patrick and Adrian Wright of Denver, Colo., Sara and Suzanne Wright of Springfield, Ill. and Erin Darter of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; and by one sister, Betty Allen of Poplar Bluff, Mo. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Visitation will be held at the Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, Mo. on Thursday, Jan. 24 from 4 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. in the Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Chapel with Rev. William L. Burke officiating. Entombment will be at the Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau, Mo. with Ford & Sons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation or Southest Hospice.

Gracie Lindsey

Gracie Lorene Lindsey, daughter of the late Jacob A. Teeters and Cora Ethylene Herning Teeters, was born on Feb. 18, 1918, at Moark, Ark., and died in the Malden Nursing Center at Malden on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at the age of 84. Mrs. Lindsey was a retired seamstress of Gossard Hosiery of Malden. She was a resident of Bernie. She was united in marriage to Robert Thomas Lindsey on June 21, 1937, at Piggott, Ark. Mr. Lindsey preceded his wife in death on Nov. 25, 1980. She is survived by one brother, Vernon Teeters of Bernie; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Donald Gene Lindsey; one daughter, JoAnne Zimmerman; two grandsons; four brothers, John Teeters, Neopolitan Teeters, Lee Teeters and Jessie Teeters; six sisters, stillborn infant, Maggie Williams, Opal Armstrong, Maudie Tate, Lena Livingston, and Violet Teeters. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, in the Rainey-Mathis Chapel in Bernie. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.

Mildred Smyth

Smyth, Mildred J. Cooper, died of natural causes on Dec. 5, 2001 in Tucson, Ariz. She was 88 years old. Born March 9, 1913 in Blytheville, Ark., Mrs. Smyth was preceded in death by her first husband, Ruel N. Cooper, who passed away in Oct. 1942. Their three children are Anne Cooper Pruett of Pleasanton, Calif., Betty Cooper Bertrand of Austin, Texas, and Ruel N. Cooper II of Tucson, Ariz. In 1954 she married Alvin Smyth, Sr. in Dexter and they moved to Tucson in 1957. She was preceded in death by Alvin Smyth in 1960. Mrs. Smyth was a piano and organ teacher for 40 years, and also directed choir at American Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tucson. She was a very active member of Broadway Christian Church, beginning in 1957, and was a member of choir, served as an Elder, was president of the Women's Guild, and served as chairman of the Church Board. Mrs. Smyth was also the first women elected as Arizona State Board President of Christian Churches. In addition to her children, Mrs. Smyth is survived by nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five nephews; one niece and many great-nephews and nieces. A memorial service was held Dec. 13, 2001 at Broadway Christian Church in Tucson. Cremains will be interred in the Dexter Cemetery during a private ceremony in June 2002. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial gift be made to the Dexter Christian Church.

Ollie M. Getter

Ollie Mae Getter, the daughter of the late Bill and Mary Smith Jones, was born in Marvel, Ark. on April 12, 1922 and died at the Clearview Nursing Center near Sikeston on Jan. 21, 2002, at the age of 79. Mrs. Getter had lived in Essex for the past 46 years. She had worked at Tyson Foods and was a member of the New Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Essex. Surviving are one daughter, Mae Ida Whitaker of Essex; three sons, Robert Jones and Billy Joe Getter, both of Malden, and Jesse James Getter of St. Louis; 16 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26 after 12 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Jan. 26 in the Watkins & Sons Chapel at 1 p.m. with Rev. Moses Grayson of Essex officiating. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery in Malden with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
