Thomas Atkins

Thomas W. Atkins, son of Nell and Andrew Atkins, was born in Kennett on June 13, 1937, and died Dec. 27, 2002, at his home in Ormond Beach, Fla., at the age of 65. He is survived by his wife, Dottie Keay Atkins, Ormond Beach, Fla., and one brother, John Paul Atkins of Sarasota, Fla. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Daytona Beach, Fla., and also leaves many friends from Dexter School System and Southeast Missouri State University. His career included Naval Aviation as a Navigator, contributed to the Gemini and Apollo Space program while employed by NASA, a licensed pilot who also built and flew ultralight aircraft, owned and operated Stovall's Department Store until his retirement. A memorial service is planned for 2:00 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at First Baptist Church of Dexter. Memorial donations may be made to "Hospice of Memorial Hospital, Ormond Beach, 785 West Granada Blvd., Suite 5, Ormond Beach, Fla. 32174.

Kent Launius

Kent A. Launius, age 76 of Searcy, Ark., formerly of Pine Bluff, Ark., died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003. He was born July 6, 1926, in Bloomfield to Dwight Thomas Launius and Elma Ada Aslin Launius. Mr. Launius was retired from Southern Pacific Railroad, a member of First Baptist Church in Searcy, Ark., where he was a deacon, U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II, co-founder of family business K & L Electronics in 1976 which moved to Searcy in 2000. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Magee Launius; one son, Larry Launius of Searcy, Ark.; one daughter, Linda Bennett of Little Rock, Ark.; two brothers, Russell Launius of Cape Girardeau and Doy Launius of Moorpark, Calif.; four sisters, Lillian Skelton and Ruth Ann Fritsen, both of Hamilton, Mont., Louise Halstead of Bakersfield, Calif., and Lois Vaughn of Dexter; and three grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, Searcy, Ark. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today, Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home, 411 E. Race Ave., Searcy, Ark. 72143. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Roller-Daniel Chapel. Interment will follow at White County Memorial Gardens by Roller-Daniel Funeral Home.

Lawrence Pflasterer

Lawrence Pflasterer, the son of the late George and Daisy Chappel Pflasterer, was born in Liberty Grove Township, Ill., on April 2, 1934, and died at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on Jan. 26, 2003, at the age of 68. Mr. Pflasterer had lived in Tilden, Ill., for many years until moving to Dexter two years ago. He was a retired policeman with the Pinckneyville, Ill., police force. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served for five years. He was a member of the Clairman General Baptist Church in Clairman, Ill., the Game Cock Breeders Association of America, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served for five years. Surviving are three daughters, Jody Scribner of Oklahoma City, Okla., Lavon Pflasterer of Gordonville, Ill. Theresa Pflasterer of Clairman, Ill.; four sons, John Pflasterer of Tilden, Ill., Richard Pflasterer of Durant, Okla., Bryant Pflasterer of Jackson, and Joseph Pflasterer of Slalzar, Okla., ; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Pflasterer of Cabot, Ark., and Jake Pflasterer of Alabama; and one sister, Irene Goodwin of Muskogee, Okla. Visitation will be held from 4-5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Francis Kimbrel

Francis Ilene Kimbrel, daughter of the late William Kimbrel and Marguerite Howell Kimbrel, was born on Dec. 15, 1924, at Essex and died in the Southeast Missouri Hospital at Cape Girardeau on March 7, 2003, at the age of 78. Miss Kimbrel was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Dexter and a resident of Dexter. Survivors include one brother, William Junior Kimbrel of Seneca; three sisters, Wilma Willene Clark of Dexter, Barbara Della Payne of Wappapello, and Shirley Ann Statler of Festus. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Kathryn Montgomery. Visitation will be held from 10:30-11 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2003, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will then be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Doyle Corlew officiating. Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery.

Eugene Hathaway

Eugene Hathaway, son of the late William Hathaway and Dora Melvina Riddle Hathaway, was born on March 18, 1922, at Bernie and died in the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center at Malden on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at the age of 80. Mr. Hathaway was a member of Word of Faith Christian Center at Bernie, a retired farmer and a resident of Bernie. He was united in marriage to Geneva Davis on Dec. 21, 1940, at Toledo, Ohio. Mrs. Hathaway survives of the home in Bernie. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jone Anthony of Dexter and Susan Hartle of Bernie; one sister, Myrtle Boyd of Bernie; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys White. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie with Rev. Dale Hartle officiating. Interment will follow in the Smith-Stevenson Cemetery.

Lola Henson

Lola Henson, the daughter of the late Homer and Irene Shepard Lewis, was born in Advance on April 8, 1935, and died at her home in Bloomfield on Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at the age of 67. Mrs. Henson had lived in the Bloomfield area all of her life. She was a homemaker and attended the Pentecostal Church. On Dec. 20, 1950, she was married to Pete Henson in Bloomfield, and he preceded her in death on July 20, 1983. Surviving are three sons, Danny Henson of Aquilla, William Henson of Essex, and Harold Henson of Bloomfield; three daughters, Ruth Bess and Barbara Grim, both of Bloomfield, and Linda McLeary of o; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers; and four sisters. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, James Aaron Dean Henson on Sept. 1, 1991, and one grandson. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, Friday, March 14, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Bro. Bill Bradley of Charleston assisting. Interment will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery near Bloomfield with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Harold M. Pritchett

Harold M. Pritchett, son of the late Guy and Elsie Capps Pritchett, was born at Gray Ridge on Jan. 5, 1938, and died at his home in Bloomfield on Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at the age of 65. Mr. Pritchett moved to Bloomfield at the age of three and had been a resident of Bloomfield since that time. Survivors include one sister, Marjorie Julius of Caseyville, Ill. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today, Friday, March 14, 2003, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Interment will follow in the Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield.

Richard Bath

Richard George Bath, son of the late Herman George Bath and Margaret Marie Ritz Bath, was born on April 2, 1937, in Cleveland, Ohio, and departed his life in Milledgeville, Ga., on Saturday, March 8, 2003, at the age of 65. Mr. Bath belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War. After leaving the military, he worked as a consultant in the apparel industry for a number of years before starting RBA Manufacturing Company in Malden in 1982. He was a member of the Father Slay #6515 Council of the Knights of Columbus, a fourth degree member of the Paul A. Clark Assembly #1773 Council of Knights of Columbus in Poplar Bluff, and a member of the American Legion in Malden. He was united in marriage to Barbara Louise Fox on June 7, 1958, at St. Rose Church in Cleveland, Ohio. Mrs. Bath survives of the home in Dexter. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Richard George Bath, Jr. of Lee's Summit; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Hance Jaquett of Seaville, N.J., Ellie and Steve Miller of Orange Park, Fla., and Margaret and Marc Watson of Roxbury, Wis.; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond J. and Adele Bath of Allentown, N.J.; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Frank Mucklo of Lakewood, Ohio; and seven grandchildren. Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2003. A rosary service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2003, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter with Father John Sheley officiating. Interment will follow at the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter. Those desiring may make memorials to Sacred Heart Parish Endowment Fund, 115 East Market, Dexter, Mo. 63841, or Dexter Knights of Columbus, 11870 Hidden Trails Drive, Dexter, Mo. 63841.
