Fay M. Casady

Warrensburg, Mo. - Fay M. Casady, 95, died Oct. 14, 2006, in Henderson, Nevada.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the First Christian Church of Warrensburg, 101 E. Gay St.

Elizabeth Ann Opperman

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Elizabeth Ann Opperman, aged 79, affectionately known as Pan. She died on May 9, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri a short time after suffering a stroke. She was born Elizabeth Ann Ramsay on Feb 20, 1933 in West Frankfort, Illinois to Richard and Grace Ramsay, who precede her in death. Pan graduated from Frankfort Community High School in West Frankfort and then completed her nursing degree at Christian Welfare Nursing School in East St Louis. She was then employed by Christian Welfare Hospital.
Pan married Lawrence E Opperman of East St Louis, Illinois on Dec 16, 1953. They had one son, Michael L. (Larry) Opperman, who survives. While Pan and Larry were separated for many years, they still cared for each other, talked regularly, and visited when their schedules permitted.
Pan was a caregiver and adventurer. After the family relocated to central Missouri, she became Director of Nurses at Charles E. Still Hospital, now Capital Regional Medical Center, in Jefferson City, Missouri and eventually rose to the position of Director of Professional Services.
In 1970, she lived in Dundee Scotland with her son and worked at Kings Cross Hospital in Dundee. Pan has also worked throughout the United States as a caregiver working as a traveling nurse. In 1973, she joined the Peace Corps and was sent to Costa Rica to provide nursing care to the citizens of that country. Pan has traveled to six of the seven continents only missing a visit to Antarctica. She settled in Waynesville, Missouri and worked at the old Pulaski County Hospital in Waynesville; Phelps County Hospital in Rolla, Missouri; and finally, Sunset Village of the Ozarks care facility, in St Robert, Missouri where she was employed at the time of her death. She would also take occasional short sabbaticals from work to drive big rigs with a friend back and forth across the country.
Pan is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Grace Ramsay of West Frankfort, Illinois; sister Dorothy Mulcahey of Champaign, Illinois; her aunt Jessie Dibbern of Davenport, Iowa; her aunt Gladys McReynolds of West Frankfort, Illinois; and her long-time friend and companion Ralph F. Kiesling of Jefferson City, Missouri.
She is survived by her son, Larry Opperman and daughter-in-law Marti of Sterling, Alaska; sisters Kathleen Vancauwerlaert, Nancy Ramsay, and Peggy Haenel, all of Litchfield, Illinois; Lawrence Opperman of Henderson, Nevada; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Pan requested no official services after her death. She was cremated and in a small family ceremony, her ashes were spread on May 19 over her parent’s grave at Tower Heights Cemetery in West Frankfort, Illinois. Pan will be missed by all.
The family requests any donations in remembrance of Pan be made to your local hospice organization or other charity of your choice.

Elmer J. Myers

SFC (Ret) Elmer J. Myers, son of the late William W. and Ora E. (Long) Myers, was born November 8, 1926 in Steubenville, Ohio. He graduated from Wintersville High School and also continued his education after joining the United States Army.
Elmer entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully for twenty-six years until his honorable discharge on May 1, 1976. He had attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and was awarded several medals and commendations; some of which include: Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), National Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Japan), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Expert (M-1 Rifle), and Expert (Carbine). One of his tours was spent in Germany where he worked in electronics for the military.
On November 3, 1965, Elmer was united in marriage with the love of his life, Elfriede Cotie in Huntsville, Alabama at the Red Stone Arsenal Military Base. They shared over 46 years of marriage together and many wonderful memories.
After retiring from the military, Elmer and his family settled in the St. Robert area. He enjoyed going for walks, reading, doing crossword puzzles and collecting coins. His biggest enjoyment was talking about the good old days. He loved to tell stories and visit with his family and friends. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Elmer passed away at 2:28 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 in the Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri having attained the age of eighty-five years, six months and four days. He will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved him.
Elmer leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Elfriede Myers of the home; five children: Cheryl Erickson of the state of Wisconsin, Karen Teague and Lori Bryan, both of the state of Ohio, Anja Balerio of Waynesville and Michael Myers of St. Robert; one brother: Lloyd Myers of the state of Ohio; six grandchildren: Cameron, Niki, Dennis, Frankie, Jeffrey and Brian; several great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by four brothers: his twin Ed, and Charlie, Robert and William; and three sisters: Flo, Marie and Virginia.
Funeral services with military honors were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Chaplain (CPT) Dustin Rodriguez officiating. Elmer’s daughter Anja Balerio, son Michael Myers and grandson Cameron Rogers, all recalled their wonderful memories of Elmer. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery – Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Missouri.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Elmer Myers and may be left at the funeral home.

Buel Franklin Leuthen

Buel Franklin Leuthen, son of the late Millard Joseph and Lela Ellen (Copeland) Leuthen, was born August 11, 1923 in Vienna, Missouri where he grew up and attended school. He was a 1941 graduate of Vienna High School. While in school, he was very active in sports and played basketball, football, and softball.
For a time Buel worked at the Vichy Airport hauling rock on the runway and also worked at the Vichy Quarry. He was then drafted into the United States Army on January 27, 1943. He served as a non-commissioned officer at the military academy in Mexico, Missouri for 3 ˝ years before being called into active service.
Buel spent the next 16 ˝ years in the United States Army and retired in 1963. He obtained the rank of Captain and received several awards which include: the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze service stars, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. His assignments took him to Germany, Italy, Korea and the following stations in the continental United States: Fort George G. Mead-Maryland, Fort Riley - Kansas, Fort Benning - Georgia, Mexico - Missouri and Fort Leonard Wood - Missouri.
On August 19, 1950, Buel was united in marriage to Goldie O’Neal in Mexico, Missouri. They shared over 52 years together and were blessed with three children: Janet Diane, Michael Gerald and Lisa Gaye. Goldie preceded Buel in death on December 2, 2002.
After retiring from the military, Buel worked for the next seven years for a construction company driving a truck. He was very observant and learned how to build a successful business. He developed five different subdivisions on Hwy 28. He built and became the owner/operator of the Leuthen Mobile Home Court and ran it for many years.
In his spare time, Buel enjoyed dancing and singing Country Western Songs. He loved spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks and water skied until the age of 50. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Waynesville, the Waynesville / Ft. Wood Shrine Club (for over 50 years), and the Waynesville Masonic Lodge #375 AF & AM. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and cherished those times.
Buel passed away Friday, April 27, 2012 in his son’s home in O’Fallon, Missouri having attained the age of 88 years. He will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved him.
Buel leaves to cherish his memory his three children: Janet Diane Meccia (Robert) of Farragut, TN, Michael Gerald Leuthen (Maureen) of O’Fallen, MO and Lisa Bourgeois of Valley Park, MO; six grandchildren: Brian Meccia, Jacob Leuthen, Lindsay Peterson, Brad Meccia, Sophia Bourgeois and Caila Bourgeouis; two great grandchildren: Sydnie Leuthen and Coleman Leuthen; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Buel was preceded in death by one sister: Bonnie Lillis and one brother: Gerald Leuthen.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. Richard Breeden officiating. Mike Leuthen, Buel’s son, gave a beautiful eulogy and Buel’s grandsons, Brad and Brian Meccia, recalled their wonderful memories of their grandfather. Jake Leuthen, Buel’s grandson, read the poem “A Veteran Died Today” in honor of his grandfather. Soloist Becky Lercher sang “Amazing Grace” and the songs “Go Rest High on that Mountain” and “Welcome Home” were played. Serving as escorts were Michael G. Leuthen, Michael W. Leuthen, Jake Leuthen, Brian Meccia, Brad Meccia and Greg Eads. Serving as honorary escorts were John Niccum, Marvin Holeyfield and Gary Eads.
Burial with military honors followed in the Vienna Public Cemetery of Vienna. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and may be left at the funeral home.

Mary Jo Hewitt

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Mary Jo Hewitt, 99, of Warrensburg, died this Sunday Oct. 22, 2006 at the Country Club Care Center.
She was born on February 1, 1907, in Fayetteville, Tennessee, the daughter of Jasper L. and Roxie (Cashion) Busbee.
Mrs. Hewitt was a graduate of the University of Missouri and did additional graduate work at the University of Minnesota.
On September 21, 1940, she married Sam P. Hewitt. He preceded her in death on November 8, 1975.
She taught for thirteen years in the field of Primary Education in the states of Missouri and New York, including five years as the Supervising Teacher of the First Grade at the Laboratory School of Central Missouri State University.
During her teaching career she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, American Association of University Women, and the Association for Childhood Education International.
Mrs. Hewitt was a member of the First Baptist Church of Warrensburg and taught Sunday school in the Primary Department for five years.
She was also a member of the Arts, Books and Crafts Club, a member of the Faculty Wives Club of Central Missouri State University and Gamma Chapter CB P.E.O. of Warrensburg.
Survivors include two nephews, Jeffrey Busbee of Kirkwood, Missouri and Donald VanAtta of North Carolina; a niece, Charlee Ann Black and husband, Alan, of Lansing, Michigan; and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Dr. Sam P. Hewitt, Dean Emeritus of the School of Arts and Science of CMSU.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at the First Baptist Church of Warrensburg.
The Reverend Frank E. Myers and Bob Ingle will be officiating.
Burial will be in the Warrensburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers are Jeffrey Busbee, Alan Black, Bill Burton, Robert Marshall, Duane Sterling and Dale Williams. Honorary pallbearers are Harold Craven and Harold Young.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be left in care of the funeral home.

James Lee Davis Sr.

James Lee Davis Sr., son of the late Glen Ray and Hazel Maude (Drummond) Davis, was born August 31, 1943 in Oceola, Nebraska. As a young child, James and his family moved to Reno, Nevada where he spent the majority of his childhood and early teenage years.
James entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully until his honorable discharge on May 15, 1964. After his discharge from the Army, James returned home to Reno. He spent a few years there before moving to the St. Louis area where he remained the remainder of his years until just recently. He moved to the Waynesville area to be close to his son.
James worked as a handyman and construction worker. He enjoyed working with his hands. James loved helping people out and was always extending a helping hand to his children and other people as well. He was a very spiritual man and enjoyed being outdoors in nature and watching the wildlife. He also enjoyed motorcycles.
James passed away Thursday, May 31, 2012 in Mercy Hospital, Springfield having attained the age of 68 years.
James leaves to cherish his memory his five children, Coyzette Davis of Rolla, MO, Michelle Jackson of St. Louis, MO, Jeannie Fitzsimmons of Devils Elbow, MO, Kenneth Ray Davis of Rolla, MO, and Deanna Dunning of Tinley Park, IL; twenty-six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Denny and Bobby Davis; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by one sister, Dottie Davis and one son, James Lee Davis, Jr.
Memorial services with military honors were held at 2 p.m. June 5, 2012, in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. Christopher Hendrix officiating. The songs “Holes in the Floor of Heaven”, “Daddy’s Hands” and “Amazing Grace” were played. Military honors were provided by the Missouri Honors Team.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of James Davis, Sr. and may be left at the funeral home.

Brooke Anne Sparks

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2008, for Brooke Anne Sparks, 28, of Warrensburg, who died unexpectedly Monday, July 21, 2008, at her residence.
The service will be at Jesus Saves Pentecostal Church, with the Rev. Morris Collins officiating. The family will receive friends Friday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
Brooke was born July 23, 1979, in Warrensburg, the daughter of Earl E. Sparks and Georgeanna K. Ferguson Sparks. She attended Warrensburg schools. She was a certified nurse’s aide at Warrensburg Manor at one time. Brooke was a member of Jesus Saves Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include her mother, Georgeanna Sparks of Warrensburg; her father, Earl Sparks of Sedalia; two daughters, Dominique Nadia Nicole Sparks and Madison Mae Sparks, both of the home; paternal grandfather, Walter E. Sparks and his wife, Helen of Montgomery, Ala.; paternal grandmother, Phyllis Sparks of Sedalia; a sister, Andrea Click of Las Vegas, Nev.; three brothers, Jason Sparks of Indian Springs, Nev., Joshua Sparks and his wife, Hope, of Knob Noster and Jimmy Click of Las Vegas. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Brooke was preceded in death by a maternal grandmother, Vera Mae Ferguson and maternal grandfather, Dewey “Bill” Ferguson.
Memorial contributions may be left to the Brooke Sparks Memorial Fund.
Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg is in charge of the arrangements.
