Walter Lewis Elwell

Walter Lewis Elwell, 78, of Harrisonville, Mo., died Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Crown Care Center in Harrisonville.
Following cremation, the family will receive friends from 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20 at Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home in Holden, Mo.
He was born March 5, 1935, in LaTour, Mo., the son of Clyde Henry and Viola (Lewis) Elwell. He lived in Montrose 35 years before moving to Harrisonville two years ago. He was a painter and carpenter.
Surviving his passing are a son, Robert Elwell, of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Kimberly Nichols, of Harrisonville; and three grandchildren.

Mary Ann Dillingham

Mary Ann Dillingham, 84, of Warrensburg, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2013 at the Country Club Care Center.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home with Pastor Neil Wolfe and Brother Charles Brant officiating.
Pallbearers will be Michael Corson, Hans Malsey, Larry Dillingham, Bobby Stewart, Adolph Ogar and Roger Brant.
Interment will follow at Adams Cemetery southeast of Warrensburg.
She was born Nov. 29, 1928, in Leeton, Mo., the daughter of Elmer and Florence (Egbert) Stewart.
She was united in marriage to J.W. Dillingham on Dec. 21, 1947, at the Leeton Christian Church. He preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 1995.
Mary Ann was a 1946 graduate of Leeton High School. She then received her cosmetology certificate in 1947. Mary Ann was the owner and operator of Dillingham Tours, which she operated for more than 25 years, traveling all around the country. She was a member of the Pleasant Bethel Baptist Church for more than 50 years and recently a member of the First Baptist Church of Warrensburg. Valley Homemakers and attending events at Arrow Rock were some of her favorite activities.
Mary Ann is survived by her two sons, Jack Dillingham and wife, Serena, and David Dillingham and wife, Simone, and two grandchildren, Cole and Hanna Dillingham, all of Warrensburg.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Adams Cemetery and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Clark E. Tyler

Clark E. Tyler, 70, of Linn, Mo., formerly of Leeton, Mo., died Monday, Aug. 19, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City, Mo.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with the Rev. David Krueger officiating. Pallbearers will be David Cox, David McCannon Jr., Will Clark, Curtis Bright, Kenny Scrivener and Mark Luetkenhoelter.
Interment will follow at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
He was born June 5, 1943, in Redding, Calif., the son of Marion Albert and Monnie Marie (Curtis) Tyler.
He was united in marriage to Sue Cecil on July 23, 1966, in Leeton.
Clark graduated high school in California and then served in the U.S. Army and later served in the National Guard for more than 20 years. Clark then moved his family to Leeton and worked at the post office in Warrensburg. In 1987, Clark was named postmaster in Leeton where he worked until his retirement in 1999. He was a former mayor of Leeton, and was a member of the Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge. Clark was a member of the First Baptist Church in Linn. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and his interests included antique cars, rock ‘n’ roll music from the 1960s and 1970s, and crappie fishing.
Clark is survived by his wife, Sue; two daughters: Monnie Mealy and husband, Marc, of Linn; and Tami Clark and husband, Rob, of Fulton, Mo.; one sister, Julia Broughton and husband, Gary, of Red Bluff, Calif.; nine grandchildren: David, Haylee McCannon, Miranda Vanzant, Tyler Wolken-Mealy, Samantha, Gabrielle Vanzant, Tyler Saltzman, Will and James Tyler Clark.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Al, Donnie and Gary Tyler.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Gwendlyn Grotzinger

Gwendlyn Grotzinger, 61, of Warrensburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013 at Ridge Crest Nursing Center.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with the Rev. Jim Richards officiating.
Interment will follow at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens,
The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
She was born April 5, 1952, in Warrensburg, the daughter of Robert and Martha Frances (Walz) Baker.
Gwen was a graduate of Warrensburg High School. She then attended and received her LPN certificate from State Fair Community College. Gwen worked at Western Missouri Medical Center for more than 20 years and volunteered at the American Red Cross for several years. Cross stitching and crocheting were her favorite hobbies.
Gwen is survived by her son, Glenn Grotzinger; her father, Robert Baker; her brothers, Bob Baker and wife, Julie, and Jeff Baker and wife, Terrie, all of Warrensburg.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ginny Grotzinger, on Dec. 10, 1987, and her mother, Martha Frances, on July 31, 2007.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Warrensburg Animal Shelter or Vascular Cures and both can be left in care of the funeral home.

Golda Lavera Gauchat

Golda Lavera Gauchat, 84, of Warrensburg, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Odessa, Mo.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg with Elder David Watson officiating. Pallbearers will be Gary Marr, Albert Colster, John Marr, Jerry Marr, Bruce Marr and Randy Jones.
Interment will follow at Greer Cemetery near Leeton.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8 at the funeral home.
She was born April 25, 1929, in rural Johnson County, Mo., the daughter of John K. and Golda (Perry) Marr.
She was united in marriage to Emile “Junior” Gauchat Jr. on May 2, 1948, at the Marr family home in rural Johnson County. He preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 2011.
Golda graduated from Hickory Grove Country School and then attended and graduated from College High School. She then received her teaching certificate from Central Missouri State Teachers College.
Golda worked a variety of jobs including being a teacher at a country school; a bookkeeper at Peoples National Bank, and was secretary for her husband’s construction business for many years. Golda was the former Johnson County recorder of deeds for 11 years and was appointed by the Missouri secretary of state to the State Records Board. She also served as a teacher’s aide in the elementary schools where she enjoyed working with all the students.
She was a member of the Community of Christ Church, where she had served as congregational women’s leader, Sunday school teacher, and assistant director to children’s choir. Golda was past co-chairman of the Women’s Ministry Commission and was past secretary-treasurer of the Warrensburg Church Women United. She was a past president, secretary, and life member of the Johnson County Historical Society. Golda was a past member of the West Central Missouri Genealogy Society, a member of the Eastern Star, American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, Warrensburg Park Board, Hospice Board, Republican Party, Johnson County Republican Committee and a member of the National Association and Missouri Association of Legal Secretaries.
She was a former arts and crafts instructor for the Warrensburg Recreation Department, was named Missouri Merit Mother of the Year in 1985, and was an avid worker for the cancer, heart, and American Red Cross fund drives. Golda was an exceptional seamstress and artist. She enjoyed decorating cakes, gardening, and embroidery. She was a devoted wife and mother who took great pride in creating a nurturing home environment, where everyone’s accomplishments were celebrated and everyone was appreciated. Golda loved her family, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and they loved her. She blessed her family with many wonderful memories.
Golda is survived by her children, Carol Williams and husband, Robert of Odessa; Nancy Hoffman and husband, David, of Minnetonka, Minn.; and Edwin Gauchat and wife, Paula, of Warrensburg; one sister, Shirley Jones and husband, Kenneth, of Warrensburg; one brother, John “Jack” Marr and wife, Willa, of Mill Creek, Wash.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and six brothers, Galen Marr, Rolla Marr, Frank Marr, Allen Marr, Luther Marr and Arthur Marr, all of Warrensburg.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the “Make a Wish Foundation” or Greer Cemetery and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Lorena W. “Rene” Prince

Lorena W. “Rene” Prince, 58, of Holden, Mo., died Thursday, July 25, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.
There will be a visitation at Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home in Holden from 6-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 30. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 31 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, Mo.
She was born Aug. 27, 1954 in Holden, the daughter of Johnnie Isaac and Mary Elizabeth (Gray) York. She graduated from Warrensburg High School in 1972 and lived in Holden for 35 years. Rene was a cook at the University of Central Missouri for many years.
She leaves her companion of 30 years, Walen Meyrand, of the home, and one brother, Lonnie York, of Lee’s Summit, Mo. A sister, Lois Root, preceded her in death in 2007.

Harold L. Davis

Harold L. Davis died at his Warrensburg home on Monday, Sept. 3, 2013. Harold was known as “June” to his family and close friends.
Harold was born on Sept 21, 1926 in Boyd, Oklahoma, the son of John Hiram and Opal (Rennick) Davis. He was the sixth child of seven in the family home. He grew up on the family ranch of a pioneer family, who had homesteaded in the Oklahoma Panhandle, also known as “No Man’s Land”. June entertained many with stories of the Depression, the Dust Bowl, the War years and tales about riding to the Anthony one room schoolhouse on horseback.
On October 16, 1949 he was united in marriage to Ida May Braidwood in Liberal, Kansas.
Harold served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946 during WW II; in the post war occupation of Korea while the civilian Korean government was being established. His reserve unit was later called up for the Korean conflict (1950-1951). The unit participated in the retreat and evacuations from North Korea at Hungnam.
Harold was a farmer/cattleman in Crowley County, Colorado, (1950 to 1969). In 1964, he helped organize the cattlemen of the Arkansas Valley, who bought ranch acreage, located in Crowley and Lincoln Counties, creating the Horse Creek Grazing Association. Harold was the last surviving member of the original board.
In 1969, Harold and the family moved to Windsor, MO where he raised cattle & horses until retirement. In the 1970’s, working with the Soil Conservation Service Board of Johnson County, MO, he helped over see many soil conservation projects, This included the Blackwater water shed project, serving as treasurer on the board. Harold believed in preserving the land for future generations.
Harold and Ida May moved to Warrensburg, MO in 2009, enjoying suburban living.
Harold is survived by his wife Ida May of the home, three sons, Alan and wife Ann of Leeton, Mo, Keith and wife Sharon of Watkins, Colo., Tim and wife Julie, of Greencastle, PA; one daughter, Cindy Pease and husband Bob of Leeton, MO; two sisters, Lucile Myers of Liberal, KS and Betty Jantzen of Balko, OK. Four grandchildren, Sarah Davis Green and husband Daniel, of Warrensburg, MO, Tom Pease of Lenexa, KS, John Davis and wife, Amanda of Leeton, MO and Kimberly Davis of Fort Collins, CO., three great grandchildren, Garrett Green of Warrensburg and Conner and Colten Davis of Leeton.
Harold’s parents, three brothers, Merle, Johnnie and LaVerne Davis, and one sister, Delpha Dain, preceded him in death. Cremation is planned with private services. The family will receive friends at the home in Warrensburg from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2013. Arrangements made by Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
