Wendell Booker

Wendell Booker, 64, of Warrensburg, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Warrensburg Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by Whiteman Air Force Base Honor Guard and Pastor Douglas Fritts officiating.
Friends may call Wednesday afternoon until service time Thursday at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association and can be left in care of the funeral home.
He was born January 20, 1949, in Oakland, Calif., the son of Alfonso and Bennie Booker.
On February 12, 1972, he married Ethelda “Kathy” Campbell in Oakland, Calif.
Wendell was a product of the Oakland school system. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1970, serving in the Vietnam War, and retired after 24 years with rank of Master Sergeant. Wendell attended Central Missouri State University and graduated with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees during his retirement. He then worked in retail for many years. Wendell had many pastimes including gardening and cooking, but knitting was his passion. He entered his worked into the Missouri State Fair every year and won numerous accolades. Many families and friends have afghans that Wendell knitted as he always gifted his work to loved ones. He was also a doting Papa to his four grandchildren. Papa could not resist spoiling them as much as he could. Wendell enjoyed rousing conversations with anyone he met. He was quick with a funny story and always shared his contagious laugh and easy smile with good company. His family has known him as a proud and strong man who overcame health setbacks time and again without complaint. Wendell will be remembered by his family and friends including his wife, aunt, children, grandchildren, nieces and his puppy, Zoey.
Wendell is survived by his wife “Kathy” of the home; one daughter Angela Comer and husband Thomas of Randallstown, Md.; one son Brian Booker and wife Amber of Blue Springs, Mo.; two brothers James and Keith Booker, both of Oakland, Calif.; four grandchildren, Alexis and Jarek Booker, and Xavier King, all of Blue Springs, Mo., and Lillian Comer of Randallstown, Md.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Esther B. Robbins Hodges

Esther B. Robbins Hodges, 96, of Warrensburg, Mo., died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013 at Country Club Care Center.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
Interment followed at Liberty Cemetery north of Warrensburg.
Memorial contributions were suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and can be left in care of the funeral home.
She is survived by one son, Steven Robbins; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Della Louise Gilbert

Della Louise Gilbert, 64, Holden, Mo, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at Pleasant Hill Health and Rehab Center, Pleasant Hill, Mo.
Funeral Services will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at New Hope Baptist Church in Holden. Visitation will be from 4-5 p.m. on Saturday. Cremation and services will be under the direction of Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home, Holden, Mo. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Della Gilbert Memorial Fund.
She was born August 22, 1949 in Mt. Carmel, IL the daughter of Robert W. and Ruby G. (Case) Pinnick. On July 29, 1974 she married Glenn Gilbert in Kansas City, Mo. She was a homemaker and lived in Florida 16 years before moving to Holden in 1997. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Holden.
Della leaves her husband, Glenn, of the home; three sons, Steven Frazier, Oak Grove, Mo., Jonathan Gilbert, Warrensburg, Mo., and Garland Gilbert, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; one brother, David Pinnick, Bridgeport, Il.; three sisters, Naomi Potter, Kingsville, Mo., Sharon Cavis, Independence, Mo., and Julie Compton, Sumner, Il.; her Step-mother, Jewell Pinnick, Bridgeport, Il.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Dustin Reed Frisbee

Dustin Reed Frisbee, 34, of Knob Noster, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013 as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warrensburg with Father Joseph Miller officiating. Pallbearers will be Timothy Scarbrough, Christopher Dannenfelser, Trae Frisbee, Nicholas Munsterman, Peter Raptakis, Scott Henderson, Ronnie Callaway and Joshua Jolly.
Interment will follow at Knob Noster Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Dustin R. Frisbee Children’s Education Fund with checks made payable to Laura Frisbee and can be left in care of the funeral home.
He was born July 20, 1979, in Warrensburg, the son of Randy and Marlene (Burns) Frisbee.
On Sept. 21, 2002, he married Laura Munsterman in Sedalia, Mo.
Dustin was a graduate of Knob Noster High school class of 1997. He worked as a union laborer for a commercial construction company. Dustin attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warrensburg. He was a member of the local union No. 264 and was the youth softball coach for the Knob Noster Bombers. Dustin enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He loved his children and family and spending quality time with them.
Dustin is survived by his wife, Laura; his children, Olivia Jean, Emma Kay Frisbee and Austin Reed Frisbee, all of Knob Noster; one brother, Trae Frisbee, of Knob Noster; his father, Randy Frisbee, of Linn, Mo.; his father- and mother-in-law, Ted and Diana Munsterman, of California, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Jennifer Raptakis and husband Peter, of St. Peter’s, Mo., and Alisha Henderson and husband, Scott, of Jefferson City, Mo.; his brother-in-law Nicholas Munsterman and wife, Laura, of Jefferson City, Mo.; four nieces, Sarah and Rachel Raptakis and Jenna and Gwendelyn Henderson; and nephew and godfather Gavin Munsterman.
He was preceded in death by his mother Marlene Frisbee; his paternal grandparents Glenn and Beryle Frisbee, and his maternal grandparents George and Eleanore Burns.

Timothy Eugene Holliday

Timothy Eugene Holliday, 47, Independence, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City.
There will be a memorial service 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb.y 15, at Ben Cast & Son – Wood Funeral Home, Holden, Mo.
He was born March 16, 1966 in Kansas City the son of Richard G., Sr. and Margaret H (Wood) Holliday. Mr. Holliday lived in the Kansas City area all of his life and worked as an over the road truck driver.
He leaves his father, Richard Holliday, Sr.; one brother, Richard Holliday, Jr., Lee’s Summit, MO; and three sisters, Tammy S. Lighthill, Springfield, Ill., Kimberly A. Wilkinson, Independence, Mo., and Gussie R. Hughes, Pleasant Hill, Mo.

Peggy G. Miller

Peggy G. Miller, 70 of Warrensburg, Mo. died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014 at her residence.
Peggy was born December 13, 1943 in Heilsburg, Germany the daughter of Feldwebel Gerhard Messerschmidt and Ottilie Ernestine (Lehmann) Messerschmidt. She was united in marriage to Larry Paul Miller on September 17, 1983 at Minot Air Force Base in Minot, South Dakota. In 1984, the couple moved to Hann, Germany. They moved to their acreage north of Warrensburg in July of 1989. Peggy loved all animals.
Survivors include her husband, Larry; mother, Ottilie Messerschmidt of Wolfsburg, Germany; and brother, Klaus Messerschmidt of Wolfsburg, Germany. She was preceded in death by her father.
Following cremation, there will be a private entombment in the Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery at Higginsville.
Arrangements entrusted to Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg.

Esther “Kay” Langston

Dr. Esther “Kay” Langston, age 66, of Warrensburg, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at the First Assembly of God Church at 240 NW 13 Highway, Warrensburg, with Pastor Roberta Crane Fitch officiating.
A private interment will be held at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Mo.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Assembly of God Church and can be left in care of the Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, Mo.
Kay was born July 23, 1947, in Peoria, IL, the daughter of David and Maxine (Elliott) Mullen.
In August 1973, she married Charles Leroy Allen in Adrian, Mo. He preceded her in death in March 1997. Then on January 21, 2006, she was united in marriage to Alvin Langston in Platte City, Mo.
Kay was a graduate of Richwoods High School in Peoria, IL, class of 1965. She then attended and received her Bachelor’s degree from Central Bible College in Springfield, Mo. In 2006, Kay attended and received her Doctorate degree from Faith Bible College in Independence, Mo. Kay was the pastor for 25 years at Son Light Assembly of God Church in Platte City, Mo. She was faithful in attending church her whole life, working in the Lord’s house doing his service. Kay was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Warrensburg. She loved her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Al; one son, John Mark Allen and wife Oshiana in Warrensburg; two daughters, Deborah Faith Morgan and husband Jason of Canon City, Colo., and Rebekah Hope Adams and husband Brett of Yuma, Ariz.; two step-daughters, Tracy Mechelle Griffin and husband Paul of Springfield, Mo., and Cynthia Denise Mattix and husband James of Covina, Calif.; two sisters, Elizabeth Gooding of Platte City, Mo., and Wendy Crotts of Springfield, Mo.; her mother, Maxine Marshall of Platte City, Mo.; 18 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Kay was also preceded in death by her father David Mullen.

William Clarence Downing

William Clarence “Downing, 82, of Leeton, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City.
Bill was born Nov. 1, 1931 in Warrensburg, Mo. the son of Elba T. and Anna (Faulkner) Downing. He graduated from Farmers School near Fayetteville. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War.
Bill married Dona Marie Coffman on July 4, 1952 in Warrensburg. The couple made their home in Denver, Colo. for several years prior to moving to Elsberry, Mo. in 1970. Bill was employed with the United States Postal Service for many years, having retired from their main office in St. Louis in 1988. In 1991, the couple moved to Leeton. He was a member of the American Legion in Elsberry. He also enjoyed camping and hunting in years past. Bill was also an avid gardener and fisherman.
Survivors include his son, Tracy Downing and wife, Cathy; granddaughter, Teryn Langner and husband, Tyler; and great granddaughter, Rebecca Langner, all of Warrensburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dona in 1997; brother, Marion Downing; and two sisters, Erma Gauchat and Fern Lamb.
