Arlie C. Tyree

Arlie Colisity Murphy Tyree of Bourbon, Missouri passed away at the family home on Friday, March 24, 2000 at the age of 96 years and one day.

Arlie was born in Boone Township, Bourbon, Missouri on a farm which was homesteaded by her grandfather, Lewis William Murphy. She was born to the late Lycurgus Eugene and Ida Addeline McGlothlin Murphy on March 23, 1904 as the seventh of nine children. On June 15, 1923 she was married to Elmer Edmund Tyree in Kansas City, Missouri, and to this marriage four children were born. Arlie and Elmer enjoyed a long married life together of 76 years. They have lived on their farm since 1945 when they purchased it, and have resided most of their lives in Crawford County. Well known for her many civic and church leadership activities, Arlie was a charter member of the Stringtown Home Economics Club and The Women Society Christian Service (WSCS), known now as the United Methodist Women. She also was a 4-H leader, a member of the Bourbon Boosters, a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, founded the Golden Age Club of Bourbon, and wrote Golden Gleanings in 1976 and 1977. Arlie was a coworker on the dairy farm, as well as with the MFA Insurance Company agency, which she and Elmer operated for many years. She graduated from Soldan High School in St. Louis, Missouri in 1922 as the only sibling in her family to graduate from high school.

She is survived by her husband, Elmer; one son, Roger Tyree and wife, Cathy, of Bourbon; three daughters, Bernadine Rosier of Sherwood, Oregon, Shirley R. Williams and husband, Clifford, of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Sheila F. Wood and husband, William, of Rolla, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren, Claudia L. Howells of Salem, Oregon, Joan L. Reynolds and Deborah A. Laboyen, both of Sherwood, Oregon, Melanie L. Williams of Lake Oswego, Oregon, Gregory A. Wood, Christopher P. Williams and Celia L. Williams, all of Chicago, Illinois, Lesley A. Hill of Millersville, Maryland, Diane K. Stirn of Brookfield, Wisconsin, Lisa M. Wood of Madison, Wisconsin, Teresa A. Cusick of St. Clair, Missouri, Linda Jo Wood of Redmond, Washington, and Roger Wayne Tyree of Sullivan, Missouri; twelve great-grandchildren, Coral McDonald of the state of California, Stephanie Reynolds, Jamie Laboyen, and Devon Swank, all of the state of Oregon, Braden Hill of the state of Maryland, Samantha, Joseph and Stephanie Stirn, and Allison Packard, all of the state of Wisconsin, and Brandon, Rachael, and Joshua Cusick, all of the state of Missouri; one sister, Fern Oster of Greer, South Carolina, other relatives, and friends. Arlie was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Oscar Eugene Murphy, Clifton Gilroy Murphy, Louis “Ted” Murphy, and Walter “Guy” Murphy, and three sisters, Mildred Prudence Chapman, Verna “Madge” Murphy, and Clara Isabella Arthur.

Funeral services in celebration of Arlie’s long and productive life were conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2000 from the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon with Pastor Diane Cochran officiating. Interment was in Crow Cemetery, Sullivan, Missouri. Pallbearers were Roger Wayne Tyree, Christopher P. Williams, Gregory A. Wood, C. Dale Murphy, Neal C. Murphy, and James (PG) Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Leland Higgins, Vernon Higgins and Donald R. Chapman. Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon in memory of Arlie C. Tyree. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Chapel, Bourbon, Missouri.

Jake Ackerman

William Jacob Ackerman of Sullivan passed away Saturday, April 1, 2000 at the age of 16 years.

Jake, as he was known by family and friends, was born on October 22, 1983 at Washington, Missouri to Bill and Mary (Armistead) Ackerman. Jake was a sophomore at Bourbon High School, where he was known as an outgoing individual who enjoyed the company of others, and was a good friend to many. He had served as a member of the Bourbon Junior Firemen, and was also a member of the North American Hunting Club. Jake enjoyed fishing and hunting with his Dad and brothers, riding his four wheeler, and hanging out with his friends. He attended Meramec Valley Baptist Church of Sullivan.

He is survived by his parents, Bill and Mary Ackerman; two brothers, Richard Ackerman and wife, Mary Lisa, and Rick Ackerman; one sister, Lisa Miller and husband, Donald; his grandmother, Irene Ackerman - all of Sullivan; two nephews, Zachary Ackerman and Brett Miller; one niece, Hannah Miller; aunts, uncles, other relatives, and many very close friends. Jake was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Ralph Ackerman, and his maternal grandparents, Tom and Lula Armistead.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2000 at the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Reverend Richard Williams officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. Arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Violet Nichols

Violet N. Nichols of St. Louis, formerly of the Stanton area, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2000 at the age of 82 years.

Mrs. Nichols was born September 4, 1917 at Stanton, Missouri to the late Pierce Elmer and Mary Ellen Armistead Randelman. She was raised in the Stanton area and as a youngster, was baptized into the Pentecostal faith. Violet played the piano for the church at Stanton for many years and was employed at the former Brown Shoe Company in Union. She endured illnesses which caused her to take residence in various care facilities in the St. Louis area over the years.

She is survived by a brother James “Henry” Randelman and wife Anna of Maryland Heights, Missouri, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, Violet was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Elmer Randelman.

Graveside funeral services were conducted 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2000 in Stanton Cemetery, Stanton, Missouri with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Shirley Maxine Bell

Shirley Maxine Bell of Crestwood, Missouri passed away at her home on Thursday, April 6, 2000 at the age of 79 years.

Maxine, as she was known by her family and friends, was born at Sullivan , Missouri on May 16, 1920 to the late William and Edna Tourville Juergens. She was raised in Sullivan and later graduated high school there. On November 11, 1939 she was married to Olin Bell at St. Charles, Missouri and to this marriage three children were born. For a time while her husband was in the Navy during W.W. II, she made her home with her parents in Sullivan and then later moved to St. Louis in 1947. She was a devoted wife and mother who saw to the needs of her family by virtue of her dedication as a homemaker. Maxine enjoyed embroidering and crocheting and would frequently contribute her work to her church and various nursing homes. She was a member or the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 152 of Fenton, Missouri and Southminister Presbyterian Church of Crestwood, Missouri.

Surviving along with her husband Olin are: two daughters, Donna Broome of Crestwood, Missouri, and Jeneanne Casey and husband Ed of Mehlville, Missouri, one son, Kent Bell and wife Kathy of Chicago, Illinois, one brother Gene Juergens and wife Florence of Sullivan, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, other relatives and friends.

Private graveside funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 8,2000 in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Sullivan, Missouri with the Rev. Dale Jackson officiating. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Oleta Tidmore

Oleta R. Tidmore of Sullivan, Missouri, formerly of Springfield, Missouri, passed away Sunday at the age of 91 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Carole Wensel and husband Jack of Sullivan, MO., one son Robert Tidmore and wife Kathy of Flushing, Michigan, one brother, O.J. Swan and wife Romaine of Amarillo, Texas, 6 grandchildren, J. Doug Wensel and wife Shelly of Springfield, Missouri, Rebecca R. Wensel Killian and husband Kevin of Springfield, Missouri, Emily Don Wensel Weiskopf and husband Bryan of Woodland Park, Colorado, Brian James Tidmore of Los Angles, California, Anne Oleta Tidmore of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Margaret Mary Tidmore of Isle of St. Kitts, 7 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Rachel Wensel, Benjamin John Wensel, Katie Madella Killian and Molly Rebecca Killian all of Springfield, Missouri, Chase Michael Weiskopf, Chad Douglas Weiskopf, and Emma Don Weiskopf all of Woodland Park, Colorado, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family received friends at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole, Springfield, MO., from 6 –8 p.m. Friday. Graveside funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield, MO. If desired, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 525 South Avenue, Springfield, Missouri 65806, or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Cleda McPherson

Cleda McPherson of Sullivan, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2000 at the age of 29 years.

Cleda was born August 7, 1970 at St. Louis, Missouri to William and Lois (King) Loida. She was raised there as a young girl and it was during this time that she was baptized into the Baptist faith. On June 20, 1993 she was married to Timothy McPherson at Sullivan, Missouri and to this marriage three children were born. For a time, Cleda was manager of the Golden Corral Resturant in Sullivan. However, her main enjoyment came from her husband and children. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband Timothy, three children, Timmy, Jr., Ashley and Carolyn McPherson all of the family home, her parents, William and Lois Loida, parents-in-law, James and Carolyn Schmidt all of Sullivan, brothers, Roy Smith and wife Cheryl and Billy Horton all of Sullivan, a sister, Patricia Davis and husband Jim of Sullivan, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted 1:00 p.m. Saturday from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry officiating.

George Luecke

George Luecke of Sullivan passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2000 at the age of 88 years.

Mr. Luecke was a life long resident of the Japan area near Sullivan, having been born there on June 15, 1911 to the late John and Minnie (Schulte) Luecke. He was baptized as a youngster at Steelville, Missouri and had attended Old Argo Presbyterian Church for many years. On March 10, 1934 he was married to Mabel Cunio at Steelville, Missouri, and to this union two daughters were born. His vocation in life was farming, and, as a result, he was well known throughout this area. He enjoyed gigging, hunting, dancing, and the outdoors. He will especially be remembered as a man who would help his family when ever needed.

He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Barth and husband, Charles, and Ila Faye Stumpe and husband, Norman, all of Sullivan; one brother, William Luecke of Clear Lake, South Dakota; two sisters, Velma Danz and husband, Raymond, of Leslie, and Emma Landwehr of Sullivan; six grandsons, Rick Stumpe of Linn, MO, Kevin Stumpe of Leslie, Keith Stumpe of Mexico, MO, Steve Stumpe of Leslie, and Kelly Stumpe of Leslie, and Jeff Bristow of Sullivan, three granddaughters, Tanya (Bristow) Rapp of Cuba, Penny (Stumpe) Wells of Sullivan, and Jill (Bristow) Hagedorn of Villa Ridge; twenty-eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. In addition to his wife, Mabel, and his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, Henry and Charles Luecke; two sisters, Laura Schaffer and Sophie Vossbrink; and one great-grandson, Adam Christopher Stumpe.

Funeral Services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 16, 2000 from the Argo Presbyterian Church with Pastor Oliver Mullen officiating. Interment was in Argo Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri. If desired, donations may be made to the Argo Presbyterian Church or to the Argo Cemetery Fund in memory of Mr. George Luecke.

Rev. Mr. Mike Sabo

Rev. Mr. Michael C. Sabo of Sullivan, Missouri, was Baptized into the Hope of Christ’s Resurrection on Thursday, April 13, 2000 at the age of 90 years and nine days.

Michael was born April 4, 1910 in East Chicago, Indiana to the late Stephen and Mary (Vargo) Sabo. After being schooled in Europe, he graduated from St. Joseph College in Rennsalear, Indiana at 16 years of age. In August of 1935, he was united in marriage to Marya D. Makody and to this marriage three children were born. Michael retired from Inland Steel in 1970 as a General Foreman. Shortly after his retirement he moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas where he was honored as “Catholic Man of the Year” because of his significant work with the youth. In 1974 he moved to Sullivan, Missouri and was ordained as a Permanent Deacon in 1981. He was also a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and served as their Chaplain at Sullivan. Mike touched the lives of may both past and present through his ministry and love of Christ. He will be truly missed by the Christian community.

He is survived by one son, Michael Sabo, Jr. and wife Gloria of Belvedere, Illinois, two daughters, Mary Beth Scaman and husband Tom of Stanton, Missouri, Monica Furjel and husband Joseph of Highland, Indiana, one brother, Anthony Sabo and wife Ann, of Coral Gables, Florida, one sister, Mary Horton and husband Mel, of Lafayette, Indiana, ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Michael was preceded in death by three brothers, Monsignor John Sabo, Frank and Stephen Sabo.

Funeral services were conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2000 from Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan with the Rev. Father Theodore Brunnert officiating. Interment was in Saint Anthony Parish Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Elsie Schuler

Elsie A. Schuler of Sullivan passed away Friday, April 14, 2000 at the age of 91 years.

Elsie was born July 1, 1908 at Cuba, Missouri to the late John and Matilda Seitz. She made her home and attended school in the Cuba area and on June 26, 1937 was married to Otto Schuler at St. Louis, Missouri. The couple lived their married life in the St. Louis area where Mrs. Schuler was employed as a seamstress in the clothing industry for many years. After retirement Elsie made her home in the Sullivan area and was active in the Rebekah Lodge Sullivan Chapter #319. She enjoyed fishing, camping, travel, and dancing, but the love of her life was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Schuler was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Smith of Sullivan, one grandson, Tim McDonald and wife Audrey of St. Louis, two granddaughters, Tammy Thurmond and husband Jeff of Sullivan and Cherri Haynes of St. Louis, six great grandchildren, Ciara, Chelsey and Jeffrey Thurmond of Sullivan, Cassandra, Taylor and Gabrielle McDonald of St. Louis, two sisters, Mabel Sousa and Alice Nellis both of the state of Florida, nieces, nephews, a special friend, Alta Farris, other relatives and friends. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Otto in 1972, and by three brothers, Johnny, Leslie, and Willie Seitz.

Funeral Services were conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2000 from the chapel of the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan with Rev. Dr. Bart Hildreth officiating. Interment was in Lakewood Park Cemetery, Affton, Missouri. Arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home.

Frances McMahan

Frances L. McMahan of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2000 at the age of 67 years.

Mrs. McMahan was born November 4, 1932 at Sullivan, Missouri to the late James Lewis and Esther Vada (Irvin) Mercer. On November 29, 1950 she was married to Norman McMahan and to this marriage four children were born. Mrs. McMahan became a Licensed Practical Nurse a was employed at the former Sullivan Community Hospital, Pea Ridge Mining Company and most recently Beverly Health Care. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge #544 and True Vine Baptist Church of Sullivan.

She is survived by three sons, James McMahan and wife Diana of Maryville, Illinois, Gary McMahan and wife Vicki of Sullivan and Kenneth McMahan and fiancee of Springfield, Missouri, one daughter, Sandra McLendon and husband Richard of Buena Park, California, one sister, Carolyn Smith and husband William, five grandchildren, William M. McLendon, James, Shane, Shelly and Samantha McMahan, other relatives and friends. Along with her parents and husband Mrs. McMahan was preceded in death by one sister, Judy Mercer.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, April 20, 2000 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri with Pastor Lindell Vawter officiating. Interment was in Valley View Garden of Memory, Edwardsville, Illinois.
