Robert Bock

Robert A. Bock of Bourbon, Missouri passed away Thursday, October 25, 2001 at the age of 66 years.

Bob, as his family and friends knew him, was born in the New Rock area near Bourbon on October 28, 1934 to Andrew and Carrie (Merkel) Bock. His vocation in life was that of a self-employed carpenter. Bob also was a heavy equipment operator for K.R. Wilson Co. and owned and operated his own backhoe service. His carpentry work was known throughout the area. He honorably served his country with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. On August 30, 1958 Bob was united in marriage to Mary Lee Vance at Bourbon, Missouri and to this union three children were born. Bob was saved and baptized into the Baptist faith. He enjoyed camping and boating. He taught his children how to water-ski and would often take Mary Lee fishing. Bob had a great sense of humor and enjoyed a good joke and pulling pranks.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee nee Vance of Bourbon; two sons, Keith Bock and wife Nickie of Bourbon and Kevin Bock of Sullivan; one daughter, Tammy Ware and husband Leonard of Bourbon, 7 grandchildren other relatives and friends. Along with his parents Bob was preceded in death by a half-brother, Eugene Bearney and a sister Karen Bock who died in infancy

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2001 from the Eaton Funeral Chapel in Bourbon, Missouri with Pastor Mike Bates officiating. Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery. Those who desire may make memorial contributions to the building fund of InJoy Christian Fellowship.

James Witt

James M. Witt of Union, Missouri, formerly of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2001 at the age of 68 years.

Mr. Witt was born on June 18, 1933 in Northcutt, Missouri to the late Richard McKinley and Mary Agnes (Hayes) Witt. At a young age, he moved with his family to the Sullivan area. During his adult years, James worked as a custodian for the Sullivan C-2 School District. He also was employed by the Graham Sawmill, and performed various other odd jobs. He enjoyed gardening and playing checkers. James will be cherished and remembered as a loving and tenderhearted man who possessed a good sense of humor and a special love for children.

He is survived by two brothers, Charles P. Witt and wife, Miriam, of Sullivan, and Kenneth R. Witt and wife, Billie, of Stanton, Missouri; three sisters, Marion Loverich and husband, George, of Union, Geneive (pronounced Gen-e-vee) Simmons of Sullivan, and Margie Payne and husband, Woodrow, of Leasburg, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Witt was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Terry King officiating. Interment was at Crossroads Cemetery in Leasburg.

Harold Mercer

Harold C. Mercer of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Monday, October 29, 2001 at the age of 85 years.

Mr. Mercer was born on May 19, 1916 at Anthonies Mill, Missouri near Bourbon to Francis and Elsie (Paul) Mercer. He was raised in the Sullivan area and honorably served his country with the U.S. Army during W.W.II. Mr. Mercer was a heavy equipment operator for a time and later became Superintendent of Streets for the City of Valley Park. He retired from there after serving 20 years. On February 2, 1956 he was married to Dorothy J. McGraw. She preceded him in death in 1997. Early in life he enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his real pleasure was traveling. Harold was saved and baptized at New Testament Baptist Church where he was a faithful member until ill health caused him to become a resident at the Missouri Veterans Home at St. James, Missouri.

He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Carol Mercer of Sullivan, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Two sisters, Edith and Beatrice Mercer, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2001 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri with Pastor Charles Idleman officiating. Interment was in Oddfellows Memorial Cemetery, Sullivan, Missouri.

Julia Gerber

Miss Julia A. Gerber of Bourbon, Missouri passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2001 at the age of 93 years.

Miss Gerber was born on March 7, 1908 at St. Louis, Missouri to Joseph and Annie (Muelheausler) Gerber. She was raised in St. Louis and later worked in a box factory there for over twenty years. She then worked for a time at the former International Shoe Company in Sullivan. Julia later took care of her father for the next 17 ˝ years until his death after which she became employed as an assistant cook at the former Zeno’s Restaurant in Sullivan. She loved babies and animals of all kinds and for a time raised canaries and parakeets as a hobby. She was a dedicated member of Saint Anthony Parish in Sullivan.

She is survived by her sister, Rose Gerber of Bourbon, Missouri, three nieces, Mary Edwards and husband John and their children, Andrew, Brian and Spring and families all of Sullivan, Rosalie Bolon and husband Charles of Rolla, Missouri, Lucy Diefenback and husband Michael of Manchester, Missouri, four nephews, John Gerber and family from Ohio, Matthew Gerber and family from St. Clair, Missouri, Mark Gerber and family from Lebanon, Missouri and Andrew Gerber and family of St. Louis, Missouri, 15 great-nephews and nieces, 6 great-great-nephews, 4 great-great-nieces, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Along with her parents, Julia was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, John and Lawrence Gerber and one sister, Gussie Gerber.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 5, 2001 from Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan with the Rev. Father Don Carey officiating. Interment was in Saint Anthony Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Frank A. White

Frank A. White of Valley Park, Missouri passed away Friday, November 2, 2001 at the age of 86 years.

Frank was born June 7, 1915 to the late James and Ellen (Stevens) White at Reynolds County, Missouri. Frank was employed as a plumbers laborer in the construction industry for many years. On January 2, 1941 he was married to Bessie Irene Means, who preceded him in death on August 31, 2000. Mr. White was a resident of Valley Park for over 44 years. He enjoyed fishing, horses, playing music and especially watching wrestling.

He is survived by one step son, Charlie White of Valley Park, two brothers, John White and wife, Edith of Valley Park, Herschel White of Willow Springs, Missouri, one sister, Louise Inman of Mountain Grove, Missouri, two grandchildren, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2001 from the Eaton Funeral Home, with interment in Cave Spring Cemetery, Sullivan, Missouri. Arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home.

Beulah Hilsabeck

Beulah L. Hilsabeck of Bourbon, Missouri passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2001 at the age of 90 years.

Mrs. Hilsabeck was born at Venice, Illinois on September 7, 1911 to William and Laura (Reed) Gibson. She was raised in various parts of Missouri and was described as a good and caring mother who was affectionate and wonderful. She found pleasure in playing Bingo and shopping and was a woman who was always on the go. As a young lady she was baptized and became a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

A daughter, Mary Hoynacki and husband Jim of Bourbon, Missouri survive her as do four grandchildren, Deborah, Matthew, Lisa and Theresa, an adopted granddaughter, Carol, five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan, Mary Ann, Michael and Erica, and one adopted great-grandchild, Annabelle, other relatives and friends. Beulah was also preceded in death by her husband Matthew Weeke, two brothers, Bill and Harry Gibson and three sisters, Marie, Ora and Frieda.

Graveside funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 5, 2001 in St. John’s Cemetery, at Bellefontaine Neighbors, Missouri .

Visitation for Mrs. Beulah Hilsabeck was held from 7 until 9 p.m. on Sunday evening at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.

Eileen M. Biggins

Eileen M. Biggins of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2001 at the age of 72 years.

Mrs. Biggins was born on February 13, 1929 at St. Louis, Missouri to John Henry and Margaret Knopp (Christopher) Breen. For a time, she was raised in St. Louis and later in the Perryville, Missouri area. On June 30, 1951 she was united in marriage to James Joseph Breen at St. Louis and to this union four children were born. Eileen’s vocation in life was employment in the banking industry. She was employed as a teller at several banks in St. Louis including Bremon Bank for 8 years. In 1973 she and her husband bought a farm near Leasburg, Missouri and have since made this area their home. Eileen was employed in Sullivan as a teller at the former Meramec State Bank.

She is survived by three sons, James Biggins of St. Louis, Michael and wife Anna of Sullivan and Kevin and wife Carol of Bourbon; one daughter, Patty Waller and husband Scott of Sullivan; two brothers, Thomas and William Breen; six sisters, Colleen Fenander, Margaret Ryan, Rosemary Mueller, Betty Siefert, Joan Breese and Cathy Miller, 7 grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Eileen’s husband James preceded her in death on May 11, 1992. A brother, John Breen also preceded her in death.

A Mass of Christian burial will celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 from Saint Francis Catholic Church in Bourbon with interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri. Visitation for Mrs. Eileen Biggins will be from 4:30 until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. A parish prayer services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening from the funeral home. Those who desire may make memorials to Unity Hospice or masses to Saint Francis Catholic Church.

Mary E. Anderson

Mary E. Anderson of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2001 at the age of 74 years.

Mrs. Anderson was born on January 25, 1927 in Metter, Georgia to the late Larie M. and Zellie (Brown) Steen. As a young girl, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, and on March 23, 1944 was joined in marriage there to Benjamin A. Anderson. Soon after their marriage, Ben and Mary moved to the Sullivan area, where she lived the remainder of her life. Throughout her adult years, she served her family as a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. Mary was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, and enjoyed attending the services and participating in the church prayer chain. She also found pleasure in cooking, gardening, flowers, and especially spending time with her family and friends. She will be cherished and remembered as a very openhearted person who took time to listen to others, and to help them in whatever way she could.

She is survived by her husband, Benjamin A. Anderson of Sullivan; one son, Benjamin M. Anderson and wife, Jeanie, of Sullivan; one daughter, Barbara Osborn and husband, J.J., of St. Clair, Missouri; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one niece, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her sister, Lauree Deavers.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2001 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Fred Miller officiating. Interment was in the New Chapel Hill Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Mrs. Mary Anderson.

Carolyn L. Pennock

Carolyn L. Pennock of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at the age of 58 years.

She is survived by her husband, Joe of the family home; one son, Alex J. Pennock of Sullivan, Missouri; one daughter and son-in-law, Shellie and Steven Camp of Bourbon, Missouri; her mother, Jewell Bartel of Sullivan, Missouri; parents-in-law, Gladys and Elzie Pennock of Sullivan; two grandchildren, Jesse and Joshua Camp; a niece, Carma Smith; one nephew, Jason Slezak; a great-nieces, Lacie and Hannah Slezak; a great-nephew, Wyatt Smith; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2001 from Meramec Valley Baptist Church with interment in Oddfellows Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:30 until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan and from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Meramec Valley Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family desires memorials to Meramec Valley Building Fund.
