TORREY
Margaret Brown Torrey, 104, Sunrise Beach, died March 25, 2000, at Laurie Care Center.
She was born March 12, 1896, in Minneapolis, Kan., a daughter of Willard R. and Clabie Schilling Brown. She was married Nov. 11, 1920, in Lawrence, Kan., to Alden Hamilton Torrey, who preceded her in death.
A graduate of the University of Kansas, she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She was an interior decorator in the Kansas City area, retiring at age 88.
Survivors include: one son, Philip Torrey, Kansas City; two daughters, Patricia Franklin, Sunrise Beach, and Judith Turner, Louisville, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Memorials are suggested to Ottawa County Historical Museum, 110 South Concord, Minneapolis, Kan. 67467.
Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Reed Funeral Home, Camdenton.
VERLINDEN
Eleanor Elizabeth Verlinden, 90, Tipton, died March 27, 2000, at Tipton Manor.
She was born Aug. 27, 1909, in Tipton, a daughter of George and Gertrude Schmidt Knipp. She was married April 17, 1931, in Tipton, to John T. Verlinden, who died March 31, 1990.
A lifelong Tipton resident, she was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Tipton, St. Andrew's Alter Society and Tipton Women's Club.
Survivors include: two sons, Gerald Verlinden, Kansas City, and John Verlinden, Brookline, Mass.; six daughters, Gertrude Quillan, Belding, Mich., Rita Brant, Tipton, Mary Jo Pittman, Gladstone, Geraldine Miller, Springfield, and Judy Moeller and Wanda Kanai, both of Blue Springs; two sisters, Adela Schreck and Louise Reibenspies, both of Tipton; 25 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. The Rev. Henry Reichert will officiate. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Meisenheimer-Griswold Funeral Home, Tipton, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A rosary will be said at 3 p.m. today
Memorials are suggested to St. Andrew's Catholic Church or school, or Price James Library.
GRIECHEN
Edward Griechen, 99, Chamois, died March 27, 2000, at his home.
He was born Dec. 19, 1900, in Rolla, a son of Otto and Emma Aselmeyer Griechen. He was married to Pearl Griechen, who preceded him in death.
He owned and operated the general store in Ryors from 1921 to the 1940s. He also was postmaster in Ryors. He was a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ, Ryors, Jefferson City Royal Arch Mason 34, and was the oldest member of Linn Lodge 326 AF&AM.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ebenezer United Church of Christ. The Rev. Eugena Althen will officiate. Burial will be in Ebenezer United Church of Christ Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Ebenezer United Church of Christ Cemetery Fund.
McELWAINE
Alvina M. McElwaine, 92, Jefferson City, died March 28, 2000, at Jefferson City Manor Care.
She was born Nov. 12, 1907, in Jefferson City, a daughter of Herman and Mathilda Schwaller Goedde. She was married Jan. 16, 1945, in Jefferson City, to James M. McElwaine, who preceded her in death.
A 1926 graduate of St. Peter High School, she worked at the Missouri Division of Employment Security for four years. She was manager of the bookkeeping department at Shikles Motor Co. for 26 years.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Ann's Sodality, Daughters of Isabella and St. Marys Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include: one sister, Sarah Goedde, Jefferson City; and one brother, Herman Goedde, Crestwood.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Greg Higley will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

WOOD
Mabel I. Wood, 82, California, died March 27, 2000, at Tipton Manor.
She was born Oct. 13, 1917, in Marion, a daughter of Robert M. and Mary Elizabeth Smith Barbour. She was married in December 1935, in Meade, Kan., to Everett Wood, who died in February 1972.
She attended Oakdale School near Latham and was a homemaker.
She worked 27 years at Striderite Shoe Factory, Tipton.
She was a member of First Christian Church, California.
Survivors include: one stepson, Oran Wood, Sublette, Kan.; one brother, Norman Barbour, Jefferson City; two sisters, Nettie Marie Bushdorf and Mary Holloway, both of Tipton; 12 step grandchildren; step great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
One stepson, Carwin Wood, and one infant son, Robert Lee Wood, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church. The Rev. Richard Wood and the Rev. David Nicholson will officiate. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, California.
Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m. today at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California.

CLUTTER
Elizabeth Rose Clutter, 65, Tipton, died March 28, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born June 6, 1934, in Clarksburg, a daughter of Bill and Rose Winebrenner Baker. She was married April 14, 1952, in Arkansas to Harry G. Clutter, who died July 22, 1998.
She lived in the Tipton/Clarksburg area all her life.
Survivors include: three sons, Jim Clutter and Jeff Clutter, both of Tipton, and Darrell Clutter, California; one brother, John Baker, California; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Meisenheimer-Griswold Funeral Home, Tipton. The Rev. Ivan Dameron will officiate. Burial will be in Sappington Cemetery, Clarksburg.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
JEANLOUIS
Maria Elizabeth Yvonne JeanLouis, 85, Jefferson City, died March 25, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 2, 1914, in Haiti, a daughter of Altemani and Celia JeanLouis. She was married in 1933 in Port Au Prince, Haiti, to Sosten Pressoir, who preceded her in death.
She attended school in Haiti and was a homemaker. She spent much of her life in the Dominican Republic, coming to the United States in 1986. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include: four sons, Michel Pressoir, Hyattsville, Yvonne Pressoir, Chicago, Victor Pressoir, New York City, and Maxim Pressoir, Republic of France; five daughters, Maria Diaz, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Maria Sosten Pressoir, Montreal, Quebec, Eva Pressoir, Port Au Prince, Marie Welli Pressoir, New York City, and Sonia Alta Gracia Moser, Jefferson City; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Six children preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from noon-2:30 p.m. Saturday at Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton.
Graveside services will follow in Augusta Cemetery near Shamrock.
ROTTER
Mary Catherine "Dude" Rotter, 82, Bonnots Mill, died March 29, 2000, at her home.
She was born March 15, 1918, in Shell City, a daughter of Theodore J. and Antonia Sara Elizabeth Maus Kirsch. She was married April 15, 1939, in Loose Creek, to Leo L. Rotter, who survives at the home.
A homemaker, she was employed by Tweedie Shoe Factory for five years. She was a member of St. Louis Church, Bonnots Mill.
Other survivors include: one son, Jimmy Rotter, Loose Creek; three daughters, Ruthie Bowen, Jefferson City, Helen Libbert, Bonnots Mill, and Sharon Holterman, Freeburg; four brothers, Nelson Kirsch, Loose Creek, Theodore "Ted" Kirsch, Bonnots Mill, Nicklous Kirsch, Dearborn, Mich., and William "Billy" Kirsch, Linn; eight sisters, Marie Zaring, Bulah Dudenhoeffer and Mageline Kliethermes, all of Jefferson City, Margaret Muenks, Loose Creek, Stella Salisbury, Kansas City, Helen Linnenbrink, Bonnots Mill, Mildred Blight, Howell, Mich., and Martha Jaegers, Linn; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Catherine Ann Porting, died Jan. 18, 2000.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Louis Church. The Rev. George Kramer will officiate. Burial will be in St. Louis Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
PAPEN
Fern K. Hodges Papen, 81, Gravois Mills, died March 30, 2000, at Laurie Knolls Care Center, Laurie.
She was born Jan. 4, 1919, in Barnett, a daughter of James K. and Neva Belle Mandole Kays. She was married in 1940 to Sidney H. Hodges, who died July 18, 1958. She was married Nov. 19, 1960, to Oscar W. "Pete" Papen, who died March 2, 1997.
She started working in the office of Dr. Jack Gunn. She and her first husband co-managed Gable's Store in Camdenton for several years. She later worked at Tweedie's Factory, Kroger Store, Kansas City Bifocal Plant, Brown Shoe Co. and Good Shepherd Nursing Home, all in Versailles, and the Laurie Knolls Care Center. Most recently, she was the door greeter at Wal-Mart in Versailles.
She was a member of Versailles Christian Church and Versailles Chapter 410 Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include: two sons, Terry M. Hodges, Richardson, Texas , and Lanny R. Hodges, Jefferson City; one stepson, Gale Papen, Rolla; one daughter, Jo A. Brown, Gravois Mills; two sisters, Hazel Kays and Marguerite Dyer, both of California, Mo.; five grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Versailles. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Saturday, with an Eastern Star service at 2 p.m.
