NEWBERRY

Joseph L. Newberry, 72, Holts Summit, died April 29, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born March 3, 1928, in Independence, a son of Joseph O. and Ruth Ann Newberry. He was married Nov. 5, 1949, in Fulton, to Betty June Binggeli, who survives at the home.

A Marine Corps veteran, he was a 1946 graduate of Mokane High School, and attended Findley Engineering College and Tulsa University. He was employed by Danuser Machine Co., Fulton, and the Missouri Highway and Transportation Department.

He retired in 1986 from the IBM Corp. where he worked for 35 years, spending 22 years in management with IBM's Service Division. He was a member, deacon and elder at the Millersburg Christian Church. He also served on the board of directors of the church.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Susan Jo Hedric, Holts Summit; one son, John Joseph Newberry,  Jefferson City; two sisters, Laverna Perrey, Holts Summit, and Ruth Johnson, Independence; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Bob Green will officiate. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fulton.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Kingdom of Callaway Hospice or Hospice of  Jefferson City.

ROARK

William Anthony Roark, 36, Columbia, died April 28, 2000, at Ellis Fischel State Cancer Hospital, Columbia.

He was born Sept. 26, 1963, in K.I. Sawyer AFB, Mich., a son of Eugene M. and Elizabeth M. Hodges Roark. His parents survive in Sedalia.

He attended Truman State University, Rockhurst College and the University of Missouri-Columbia. He worked as a sales rep.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Columbia.

Other survivors include three sisters, Mary Bahner, Bahner, Cecelia Donelson, RAF-England, and Theresa Luebbering, Holts Summit.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Edwin Cole will officiate. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with a rosary at 8 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1013, Columbia, Mo. 65205; or Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1115 Locust, Columbia, Mo. 65201.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Funeral Service, Columbia.

SCHWANTES

Ronald Schwantes, 53, Eldon, died April 29, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born June 20, 1946, in the state of Illinois, a son of Bertha Verch Schwantes. He was married July 24, 1971, in Eldon, to Sharon Burris, who survives at the home.

He worked as a foreman in a lumber yard. An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was employed at the Missouri Department of Corrections. He then was employed by Osage Products for 19 years until his retirement.

He was past president of the Park and Recreations Board in Eldon.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Angela Schwantes, Eldon; one son, Allen Schwantes, Eldon; and one sister, Wanda Collins, Augusta, Ga.

His stepfather, Wallace Drake, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Mark Landis will officiate. Burial will be in Greenmore Memorial Gardens, Barnett.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

LOETHEN

Delmer Vincent Loethen, 53, St. Thomas, died April 30, 2000, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born Feb. 2, 1947, in  Jefferson City, a son of Vincent and Catherine Schulte Loethen. His mother survives in Meta. He was married July 15, 1989, to Patti Reed-Mason, who survives at the home.

He was a 1965 graduate of Fatima High School, and a graduate of the Missouri Auctioneering School, St. Joseph. An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was employed at Schrimpf and Westerman Heating and Cooling for 17 years.

He currently was working as a maintenance supervisor for the Missouri National Guard and co-owned Loethen Auctioneering. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, St. Thomas.

Other survivors include: one son, Steve Loethen, St. Thomas; one daughter, Tambra Loethen, St. Louis; three stepsons, Eric Mason, Travis Mason and Matt Mason, all of  Jefferson City; four sisters, Celestine Stegeman, Meta, Rosella Reinkemeyer, St. Thomas, Viola Volmert,  Jefferson City, and Joan Poettgen, Janesville, Wis.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. The Rev. Don Antweiler will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Knights of Columbus Hall, St. Thomas, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rekus Funeral Home, Meta.

FRANCIS

Services were Monday for Bertram M. Francis, 79, Ft. Myers, Fla., formerly of Centertown, who died April 28, 2000, in Ft. Myers.

He was born March 22, 1921, in Marion, a son of Harley and Katharine Raithel Garnett Francis. He was married to Barbara Francis, who survives at the home.

He graduated from high school in Centertown and attended Glendale Junior College, Glendale, Calif. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. After his retirement from A.P. Green Co., Mexico, he moved to the state of Florida.

He currently was employed by Reliable Auto and Paint Supplies, Ft. Myers. He was a member of McGregor Baptist Church, Ft. Myers. In 1998 he was inducted into the Missouri Amateur Softball Hall of Fame in Springfield.

Other survivors include one daughter, Barbara Kaye May, Atlanta, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

One son, Bertram Michael Francis, preceded him in death.

Services were held at Ft. Myers Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, Ft. Myers.

Memorials are suggested to McGregor Baptist Church, 3750 Colonial Blvd., Ft. Myers, Fla. 33912; or to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

FRASER

Services were Friday for Kevin L. Fraser, 22, Chesterfield, formerly of  Jefferson City, who died April 24, 2000.

He was born July 8, 1977, in Winfield, Ill., a son of John R. and Cheryl M. Banks Fraser. His father and stepmother, John and Karen Fraser, and his mother and stepfather, Cheryl and Ray Moore, survive.

An Army veteran of the Gulf War, he was an Eagle Scout. He was a member of VFW Post 1003 and the Disabled American Veterans.

Other survivors include one brother, Brian P. Fraser.

Services were at Buchholz West Chapel, Chesterfield. Burial was in National Cemetery,  Jefferson Barracks.

JACKSON

Caroline B. Jackson, 76, Versailles, died April 30, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 14, 1924, in Groveland, Mass., a daughter of Henry and Caroline C. Hall Stephenson. She was married July 16, 1949, to Walter W. Jackson, who died Feb. 4, 1983.

A Navy veteran of World War II, she was a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church, Stover, and the senior citizen clubs in Versailles and Stover.

Survivors include: four sons, David E. Jackson, Giddings, Texas , Robert Jackson, Nobleboro, Maine, Donald Jackson, Lawrence, Mass., and Paul Jackson, Los Angeles, Calif.; one daughter, Helena Marriott, Versailles; one brother, Harold Stephenson, Groveland, Mass.; one sister, Mildred Esty, Groveland; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church. James Henderson will officiate. An additional memorial service will be Thursday in Georgetown, Mass. Burial will be in Groveland Cemetery, Groveland.

Arrangements are under the direction of Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Versailles.

MANTLE

Betty J. Mantle, 76, Linn, died May 1, 2000, at Capital Region Medical Center,  Jefferson City.

She was born April 6, 1924, in Linn, a daughter of James and Mary Ada Gilbert Mantle.

She was a resident of Osage County for most of her live. She operated the Brass Rail in  Jefferson City for several years. She also had been employed with Krautman's Korner Cafe, Bonnots Mill, for several years.

Survivors include: one son, Mike Mantle, Linn; three brothers, Cliff Mantle, Linn, Don Mantle, Peoria, Ariz., and Jim Mantle, Beaufort; one sister, Rhey Jean Hubach, Arnold; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Morton Funeral Home, Linn. The Rev. Paul Hartley will officiate. Burial will be in Linn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to the St. George Activity Center, Linn.

PARRISH

Jimmie H. Parrish, 72, Lake Ozark, died May 1, 2000, at Lake Regional Health Center, Osage Beach.

He was born April 28, 1928, in Linn Creek, a son of Egel and Grace Hanks Parish. He was married Aug. 4, 1967, in Eldon, to Janice Wyrick, who survives at the home.

A former Camden County assessor, he was a member of Riverview Baptist Church, Osage Beach; Masonic Lodge 152, Linn Creek; and Abou Ben Adhen Shrine Club, Springfield.

Other survivors include: one son, Walter Franklin Parish, St. Louis; three daughters, Pamela Parish, Wichita, Kan., Sherry Wojton, St. Louis, and Michelle Horn,  Jefferson City; one brother, Frank Parish, Marshall; one sister, Eula Jerry, Camdenton; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach. Entombment will be in Praying Hands Mausoleum at Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Osage Beach.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m.
