LISTER
Chester I. Lister Sr., 92, Jefferson City, died Jan. 10, 2001, at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital.
He was born Nov. 9, 1908, at Atchison, Kan., a son of Leroy and Hanna Gilliland Lister. He was married Oct. 31, 1928, at Atchison, Kan., to Nellie Hurst, who survives.
He lived in Atchison until 1997. He attended school in Sumner, Kan. He was a filter plant operator for the Atchison Water Co. for many years. He was a member of Jefferson City's First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Chester I. Lister Jr., Jefferson City; two daughters, Meta Bruce, Schoolcraft, Mich., and Evelyn Reece, Clearwater, Fla.; one sister, Meta Bechtold, Atchison, Kan., six grandchildren and 11 great-grandhildren.
A memorial service will conducted at a later time.
Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Freeman Mortuary.
MARTIN
Donald Blaire Martin, 77, Laurie, died Jan. 12, 2001, at the Laurie Care Center.
He was born Sept. 9, 1923, in Eskridge, Kan., a son of George K. and Carrie Ellen Cowdrey Martin.
Survivors include: two brothers, William Gerald Martin, Wichita, Kan., and Ronald C. Martin, Gravois Mills.
His remains were cremated.
Graveside services will be held at a later date in the Eskridge Cemetery, Eskridge, Kan.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.
PIPES
Glen E. Pipes, 85, Green Castle, died Jan. 11, 2001, at the Golden Age Living Center, Stover.
He was born Oct. 15, 1915, in Sullivan County, a son of Charles E. and Elva Bunch Pipes. He was married Sept. 9, 1934, to Nellie Sousley, who survives.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving from 1943-45. He had retired from work as a self-employed truck driver and timber worker.
Other survivors include: three sons, Earl W. Pipes and Bill Pipes, both of Versailles, and Glen Pipes, Columbia; three daughters, Wilma Monteer, Stover, Wanda Marriott, Columbia, and Juanita Daniels, Kirksville; three sisters, Bernice Butler, Vera Talbert and Velma Ziegler, all of Green Castle; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Three grandchildren preceded him in death.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles, with the Rev. Todd Forman officiating.
Memorials are suggested to the Benton County Hospice.
RILEY
Virginia Lee Riley, 61, Hulbert, Okla., and a former Eldon resident, died Jan. 11, 2001, in Tulsa, Okla.
She was born Aug. 18, 1939, in Hulbert, a daughter of Rufus and Betsy Smith Carey. She was married Dec. 6, 1962, in West Plains, to John Irving Riley, who survives.
She graduated from the School for the Deaf in Sulphur, Okla. She lived in Eldon until 1998, when she moved to Hulbert. She was a line operator with Chesebrough-Ponds in Jefferson City until she retired in 1997. She was a member of the Swimmer Baptist Church in Hulbert.
Other survivors include: one son, Eric Campbell, of the home; one daughter, Carol Campbell, St. Louis; one step-brother, David Carey; one sister, Wineatta Guelich, Annandale, Va.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Reed-Culver Funeral Chapel, Tahlequah, Okla., with the Rev. Charley Carey officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery.
STELLMAN
Helen Virginia Stellman, 79, Holts Summit, died Jan. 12, 2001, at the Oak View Living Center.
She was born May 24, 1921, in Tacoma, Washington , a daughter of Ernest and Lillian Hollyoak Schurb.
She was married Nov. 2, 1940, in Everett, Washington , to Glenn J. Stellman, who survives at the home.
She attended schools in Tacoma. She was a seamstress for various drapery companies in Tacoma.
Other survivors include: one son, Ronald D. Stellman, Spokane, Wash.; two daughters, Lillian M. Daughton, Sultan, Wash., and Glenna D. Henry, Holts Summit; one sister, Hazel Lamreau, Auburn, Wash.; four grandchildren; three great-granddaughters and one great-great-grandson.
A son, Stanley Stellman, died July 9, 1990.
Services will be 4 p.m. Sunday at the Houser-Millard Holts Summit Chapel, with the Rev. Charles R. Crum officiating. Private entombment will be held at the Riverview Cemetery Mausoleum.
Visitation will be from 3-4 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to the Missouri Kidney Foundation.
STRATMAN
rose C. Stratman, 98, Jefferson City, died Jan. 13, 2001, at the St. Joseph's Home for the Aged.
She was born July 6, 1902, at Vienna, a daughter of Ferdinand and Theresa Massman Volmert. She was married March 25, 1921, at Vienna, to Robert H. Stratman, who died April 26, 1971.
She attended school in Vienna. She was a member of St. Peters Church, Jefferson City. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: one daughter, Rosalee Hofbauer, Columbia; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
One son, Robert L. Stratman, died July 21, 1996.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at St. Peters Church, with the Rev. Joseph Corel officiating. Burial will be at the Visitation Cemetery, Vienna.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. today at the Freeman Mortuary, with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Joseph's Home for the Aged or St. Peters Church.
WEAVER
Frank Weaver, 96, Potosi -- formerly of Maries County -- died Jan. 13, 2001, in the Scenic View Skill Care, Herculaneum.
He was born Jan. 24, 1905, in Maries County, a son of William and Martha Davis Weaver.
He was married in July 1977 at Arnold to Cynthia Marie Heads Boyer, who survives.
He was a life-long farmer.
Other survivors include: two step-sons, Thomas Boyer and Michael Boyer, both of Hillsboro; one step-daughter, Virginia Hart, Hillsboro; 14 step-grandchildren; 25 step great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes-Vienna Chapel. Burial will be in the Tennyson Cemetery, Vichy.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday and from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday.
WILLIAMS
Ruby Williams, 83, Linn Creek, died Jan. 12, 2001, at the Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach.
She was born Nov. 22, 1917, in Camden County, a daughter of Frank and Zora Webster Walters. She was married March 5, 1938, in Lebanon, to Norris Franklin Williams, who died Dec. 30, 1981.
She was a member of the Linn Creek United Methodist Church. She was a member of the V.F.W. Post 6383, Linn Creek.
Survivors include: two sons, Gene Williams, Kemah, Texas , and Nicky Williams, Linn Creek; three grandsons and two great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Linn Creek, with Pastor Cindy Trupp officiating. Burial will be in the Hugo Cemetery, Linn Creek.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the Hedges Funeral Home, Camdenton.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church, Linn Creek.
ARENA
Services were today for Joe Arena Jr., 69, Topeka, Kan., formerly of Dixon, who died Jan. 11, 2001, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka.
He was born Nov. 4, 1931, in West Springfield, Mass., a son of Joseph Sr. and Carmella Arcuri Arena. He was married June 11, 1954, in Fort Lee, Va., to Ruth Brazell, who survives.
He served 26 years in the Army and was a member of VFW Post 8045, Argyle. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Topeka.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Patricia Peveto, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Cynthia Clark, Topeka; two sisters, Carmella Stebbins, Ludlow, Mass, and Theresa Gregory, Gill, Mass.; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services were in Roach Cemetery, Newburg.
Memorials are suggested to Visitation Catholic Church, Vienna.
