STRATMAN

Rosemary Margaret Stratman, 60,  Jefferson City, died March 13, 2001, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born April 24, 1940, in Vienna, a daughter of Bernard and Emma Renkemeyer Stratman.

She was a member of Visitation Catholic Church in Vienna and belonged to the Cole County First Start Program and all residential programs. She worked at Capital Projects,  Jefferson City.

Survivors include: two brothers, Cellus Stratman, Vienna, and A.J. Stratman,  Jefferson City; three sisters, Marcelline Raithel and Pat Wall, both of  Jefferson City, and Helen Bocklage, Florissant.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m.. Saturday at Visitation Catholic Church. The Rev. John Schmitz will officiate. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Birmingham Martin Funeral Home, Vienna. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to Capital Projects; Special Olympics of Missouri; or the Cancer Relay for Life, Cole County.

THOMPSON

Elma Naomi Thompson, 97, Belle, died March 13, 2001, at Frene Valley Healthcare South, Owensville.

She was born July 22, 1903, near Bourbon, a daughter of Alfred and Frances "Fannie" McCune Rector. She was married July 28, 1923, to Ray Thompson, who died Jan. 16, 1979.

She lived in  Jefferson City prior to moving to Belle, helping her husband operate a dairy farm. She lived in Bland before moving to Frene Valley. She was a member of First Christian Church, Belle.

Survivors include: one daughter, Dorothy Goettling, Higginsville; one son, Russell "Tom" Thompson, Bland; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Thompson, and one daughter, Mary Miller.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church. Bro. Don Wortman will officiate. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Sassmann's Funeral Service, Bland.

WYSS

Emma Lavena Wyss, 97, California, died March 12, 2001, at California Care Center.

She was born July 7, 1903, in  Oklahoma, a daughter of Laurie and Mary David Turner. She was married in 1920, in Jamestown, to John Phillip Wyss, who died in 1981.

She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ in California. She was a member of the church guild in California and Jamestown.

Survivors include: one daughter, Lillian Meyer, Prairie Home; one sister, Opal Werner, Lee's Summit; two grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Weber and Sons Funeral Home, California. The Rev. Gary Schulte will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Church of Christ Cemetery, Jamestown.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Paul's United Church of Christ Cemetery.

TAYLOR

Carrie Mae Taylor, 104, Fulton, died March 16, 2001, at Fulton Manor.

She was born Aug. 12, 1896, in Callaway County, a daughter of Lewis J. and Lillie M. Myers Meyer. She was married Feb. 25, 1923, in Auxvasse, to Lewis B. Taylor, who died March 5, 1979.

She and her husband farmed south of Mexico in Audrain County. She was a member of Auxvasse United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Robert Lee Taylor, Auxvasse; one brother, Paul Meyer Sr., Columbia; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

One son, Lewis B. Taylor, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Arnold Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Guese will officiate. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from noon-1:30 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to Auxvasse United Methodist Church or North Callaway Senior Center.

POETTGEN

John Poettgen, 90, Freeburg, died March 15, 2001, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born Aug. 16, 1910, in Freeburg, a son of Joseph and Bernadine Dill Poettgen. He was married June 25, 1938, in Freeburg, to Geraldine Ann Castrop, who died Dec. 6, 1983.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg, and the church choir. He was the mayor of Freeburg and he operated Poettgen Brothers Garage, Freeburg.

Survivors include: three sons, George Poettgen,  Jefferson City, Joseph Poettgen and Steve Poettgen, both of Freeburg; two sisters, Augusta Cress, Lebanon, and Imelda Tegethoff, Ellisville; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Freeburg. The Rev. Mike Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 8:30 p.m., and from 9-10:30 a.m. Monday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna.

Memorials are suggested to the Holy Family Church and School Memorial Fund, Freeburg.

FISHER

Hubert A. Fisher, 79, Lake of the Ozarks, died March 15, 2001, at Lake Regional Health Center.

He was born Nov. 20, 1921, near Brooksville, a son of Frank and Maud Vaughn Fisher. He was married Oct. 21, 1945, to Bonna Del Herrold, who survives at the home.

He graduated from Warrensburg High School and attended Central Missouri State College. He was an Army veteran. He owned and operated Fisher Motor Company until 1956 when he purchased Gerbes Resort, Laurie.

He was an industrial arts teacher in Warrensburg until retirement in 1972. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Warrensburg, was a Shrine member in Kansas City and was a Boy Scout leader.

Survivors include: one daughter, Carole Miller, Eureka; two sons, Hal Fisher, Warsaw, and Ted Fisher, Lewisville, Texas ; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

One son, Stephen Fisher, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Sweeney Phillips and Holden Funeral Home, Warrensburg. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-5 p.m. Sunday at Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home, Camdenton.

Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Club.

PAPEN

Everett Lee Papen, 90, Camdenton, died March 15, 2001, at Lake Regional Health Systems, Osage Beach.

He was born Jan. 30, 1911, near Decaturville, a son of Samuel L. and Minnie Crabtree Papen. He was married June 8, 1935, in Versailles, to Tamzel Webster, who died Aug. 3, 1998.

He was a construction worker and a real estate developer. He was a member of the New Covenant Chapel, Roach, and the Masonic Lodge, Eldon.

Survivors include: two daughters, Joyce Thompson, Linn Creek, and Janet Cumper, Omaha, Neb.; one son, Kenyon Papen, Camdenton; one brother, T.L. Papen, High Point; four sisters, Delia Stilling and Lorraine Moderson, both of Camdenton, Crystal Raithel, Centertown, and Marjorie Spencer, Springfield; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Wilson, one son, Everett Lee Papen Jr., and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Golston will officiate. Burial will be in Highpoint Cemetery.

Masonic services will be at 3 p.m. today with visitation until 5 p.m.

HUFFMAN

Minnie Huffman, 79, Vienna, died March 15, 2001, at Maries Manor Health Care Center, Vienna.

She was born May 22, 1921, in Carrollton, a daughter of James and Minnie Tracey Cox. She was married July 6, 1936, in Ava, to Wilbur Douglas Huffman, who died Oct. 18, 1969.

She was a member of the Crocker Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4956 Ladies Auxiliary. She was employed in the pre-fit room of Brown Shoe Company, Dixon, for 11 years, retiring in 1968.

Survivors include: one son, Robert Huffman, Dixon; five daughters, Velma Bays, Holts Summit, Emma Huffman and Shirley Robertson, both of Houston, and Francis Myrick, Newburg; 13 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Dixon. Pastor Ray Caringer will officiate. Burial will be in Clifty Cemetery, Dixon.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today and from 1-2 p.m. Sunday.

DAVIS

Sonja Jean Davis, 62,  Jefferson City, died March 15, 2001, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born April 24, 1938, in Kansas City, a daughter of Virgil and Eva Facenda Geschwind. She was married Oct. 14, 1989, in  Jefferson City, to Jimmy Davis, who survives at the home.

She was a 1955 graduate of Lillis High School, Kansas City, and attended Kansas City Business College. She was a food manager for the Department of Corrections for 17 years and was a former owner of Country Kitchen, Versailles. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 2693 Ladies Auxiliary.

Other survivors include: two sons, Steven Eppenauer, Higginsville, and Randy Eppenauer, Versailles; two daughters, Kathy Ehlers, Cole Camp, and Sherrie Rivera, Denver; one brother, Patrick Geschwind, Lee's Summit; two sisters, Barbara Geschwind and Mabel Weidmann, both of Kansas City; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

One son, Michael Eppenauer, died in May 2000 and two daughters, Karen Ramey died in July 1998 and Peggy Sue Eppenauer died in October 1962.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. Lonnie Landrum and the Rev. Jimmy Kruse will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Foundation.
