BEYER

Robert E. Beyer, 72, Fulton, died March 21, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.

He was born Jan. 1, 1929, in Pittsburgh, a son of Arthur F. and Emma Eriksen Beyer. He was married April 8, 1950, to Patricia Pestel, who survives at the home.

He was a retired investment banker. He served on the Presbyterian Manor of Mid America board of trustees and the group's fund development committee. He was a member and past chairman of the Fulton Area Chamber of Commerce, past chair of Fulton United Way, past member and chairman of the United Church of Christ Church Counsel, trustee of Fulton Housing Committee, past member and chairman of Ecumenical Ministries, former member of Kiwanis and a member and past chairman of the Board of Associates, Fulton Colleges.

He also was a member of the Shriners, Masonic Lodge as a 32nd degree Mason and the Sheltered Workshop board of directors. He served on the Board of Public Works and was a member and president of the advisory committee for Fulton Presbyterian Manor.

Other survivors include: one son, Richard Erik Beyer, Leawood, Kan.; two daughters, Lisa Ann Bright, Millersburg, and Sandra Louise Vail, Columbia; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Richard Blount, the Rev. Ed Church and the Rev. Raymond McCallister Jr. will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the United Church of Christ, Callaway County YMCA or the Fulton Presbyterian Manor.

WISECARVER

Iva E. Wisecarver, 88, Laurie, died March 22, 2001, at Mercy Villa Nursing Home, Springfield.

She was born March 23, 1912, in Carthage, a daughter of Thomas J. and Eva Odessa Gray Case. She was married May 19, 1928, to Marion G. Wisecarver, who died July 13, 1979.

She was a homemaker and a member of Sunrise Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two sons, Virgil Wisecarver, Springfield, and Wayne Wisecarver, San Pedro, Calif.; three daughters, Wanda Wallece, Laurie, Marjorie Mendoza, Los Angeles, and Barbara Turner, Sonora, Calif.; one sister, Nellie Resch, Kansas City; 15 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Sunday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie. Burial will be in Hickory Point Cemetery, Green Ridge.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to St. Johns Mercy Villa Fund.

SAMPSEL

Clara L. Sampsel, 95, Osage Beach, died March 21, 2001, at Ozark Care Center, Osage Beach.

She was born Sept. 5, 1905, near Warsaw, a daughter of James W. and Mary Mollie Castleberry Molder. She was married to Vernon Cecil Sampsel, who died in 1948.

She was a homemaker and worked in food service. She moved to Camdenton in 1976. She was a member of the Camdenton Nazarene Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Capps, Camdenton, and Wanda Preze, Independence; one son, James William Sampsel, Chillicothe; two brothers, Billy Woods and Ab Woods, both of Lowry City; one sister, Flossie Bledsoe, Deepwater; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

One daughter, Betty Jean Sampsel, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. The Rev. O'Neal Loetscher will officiate. Burial will be in Dale Blair Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon-1 p.m. today.

MEADOR

Mattie G. Meador, 95, Fulton, died March 23, 2001, at Fulton Manor Care Center.

She was born Jan. 11, 1906, in Audrain County, a daughter of Everett and Lavenia Craighead Kettle. She was married June 27, 1927, in Fulton, to Emmett R. Meador, who died Dec. 25, 1985.

She was a member of Unity Baptist Church.

Survivors include: three daughters, Gene Meador and Joyce Spradlin, both of Fulton, and Kay Renfro, Gravois Mills; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

One grandson preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Unity Baptist Church. Pastor Robert Hawkins and Bruce Williamson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton.

Memorials are suggested to the Unity Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.

HOLZEM

Lorene C. Holzem, 88, Morrison, died March 22, 2001, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Nov. 14, 1912, in Chamois, a daughter of Joseph and Bertha Ripstein Boss. She was married May 27, 1947, in Chamois, to Milton F. "Hank" Holzem, who survives.

She had worked for Oberman's Factory and was a member of Assumption Church in Morrison.

Other survivors include: two sons, Ronald Holzem,  Jefferson City, and Gordon Holzem, Springville, Tenn.; one brother, Donald Boss, Hudson, Fla.; four sisters, Dorothy Topel, Peoria, Ill., Rose Boss, Chamois, Helen Holzem and Genavive, Boss, both of Linn; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Assumption Church. Fr. Pat Dowling will officiate. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Assumption Church or the American Heart Association.

GENTZSCH

Hubert "Cushie" Gentzsch, 93, Jamestown, died March 22, 2001, at California Care Center.

He was born June 9, 1907, in Jamestown, a son of Samuel E. and Grace May Harris Gentzsch. He was married Nov. 29, 1934, in Columbia, to Matilda "Tillie" Reynolds, who died May 25, 1994.

He worked for the Missouri Highway Department for 32 years as a shed foreman. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Jamestown, and attended Jamestown High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was a member of California Lodge 183 AF & AM, California Chapter 521, Order of Eastern Star, Prince of Peace Commandry-Knights Templar 29, charter member of Jamestown Lions Club and a member of the State Highway Employees Association.

Survivors include several nephews and nieces.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Grace United Methodist Church, Jamestown. The Rev. Chester Marshall and the Rev. Jerry Moon will officiate. Burial will be in Grace United Methodist Cemetery, Jamestown.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services.

Memorials are suggested to the Grace United Methodist Church Elevator Fund, 57996 Hwy. U, Jamestown, Mo. 65046.

RICE

Gertrude W. "Gertie" Rice, 81,  Jefferson City, died March 23, 2001, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born March 21, 1920, in Westphalia, a daughter of August and Elizabeth Hoer Castrop. She was married Sept. 11, 1943, in Lincoln, Neb., to Vest "Babe" Rice, who survives at the home.

A homemaker, she was a member of St. Joseph's Cathedral,  Jefferson City. She attended St. Joseph's School, Westphalia.

Other survives include: one son, John Rice,  Jefferson City; one daughter, Judy Fechtel,  Jefferson City; one brother, Clarence "Butch" Castrop, Westphalia; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Cathedral. Fr. Daniel Merz will officiate. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Helias Foundation.

STAPPENBECK

Audrey Elaine Stappenbeck, 41, Austin, Texas , formerly of  Jefferson City, died March 23, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.

She was born June 17, 1959, in San Antonio, Texas , a daughter of Herb L. and Barbara Ellen Pickard Stappenbeck. Her parents survive in Gadsen, Ala.

She graduated from Rock Bridge High School in 1977. She attended the University of Missouri and received a master's degree in math education. She was a member of Marching Mizzou and the Marching Mizzou Alumni Bank.

She directed plays for 10 years at Blair Oaks High School in Wardsville. She was currently teaching at Del Valle High School in Austin. She was a member of the Missouri Federation of Teachers, and of Big Brothers and Big Sisters in  Jefferson City.

She is also survived by two brothers, Gregory John Stappenbeck, Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Stephen Charles Stappenbeck, Austin.

A memorial gathering will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Parker Funeral Service, Columbia.

Memorials are suggested to Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

STONNER

Genevieve Beatrice Stonner, 88, Chamois, died March 24, 2001, at Green Meadows Health Care Center, Linn.

She was born Feb. 4, 1913, in Emporia, Kan., a daughter of Imlah D. and Pearl Todd Miller. She was married Feb. 4, 1951, to Frank Stonner, who died in 1986.

She was a graduate of Maryville High School, Maryville, and attended Northwest Missouri Teachers College, Maryville. In 1940, she earned her master's degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, New York City.

She was a high school music and English literature teacher in Gilman City and Potosi. She was the director of vocal music at Lead, South Dakota High School.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Chamois, and served as the choir director.

Survivors include: one daughter, Anne Stonner Patlan, Chamois; and two grandchildren.

One grandson preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chamois United Methodist Church. The Rev. Deborah Pope and the Rev. Tony Townley will officiate. Burial will be in Stonner Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Meyer-Hilke-Millard Funeral Home, Chamois.

Memorials are suggested to Chamois United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
