BROWN

Captola T. Brown, 67, Mission, Kan., died July 6, 2001, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

She was born June 10, 1934, in Maniteau County, a daughter of Lyman R. and Sylvia Lucella Scott Stayton. She was married June 30, 1952, to Robert E. Brown, who survives at the home.

She was raised in  Jefferson City and graduated from  Jefferson City High School. She was co-owner of Silver Enterprises of Kansas Incorporated.

Other survivors include: one son, Lyman Brown, Shawnee; one daughter, Beckie Hanson, Shawnee; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Amos Family Chapel, Shawnee. Burial will be in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday.

EDWARDS

Dale Grant Edwards, 68,  Jefferson City, died July 7, 2001, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born Nov. 29, 1932, in Evansville, Ind., a son of Lloyd and Osie Lee Williams Edwards. He was married Jan. 21, 1961, in Burbank, Calif., to Gayle Elaine Penhollow, who survives at the home.

He was a 1950 graduate of Bosse High School, Evansville, and a 1959 graduate of Evansville University.

An Army veteran of the Korean War, he was employed as controller of Dixon-Tyconderoga Incorporated, Versailles. He was a controller with Tel Central,  Jefferson City, and was a licensed real estate agent with Coldwell-Banker Real Estate.

He was a member of First Assembly of God Church,  Jefferson City.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Ellen Edwards,  Jefferson City; and one son, Paul Edwards,  Jefferson City.

One son, Phillip Dale Edwards preceded him in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Lowell S. Perkins, the Rev. Van Mitchell, the Rev. Ralph Dodd and the Rev. Greg Bruce will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Dale Edwards Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.

GILMORE

Albert Ray Gilmore Sr., 70,  Jefferson City, died July 7, 2001, at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia.

He was born Jan. 3, 1931, in Boone County, a son of Harry L. and Mamie Bradley Gilmore. He was married Feb. 16, 1958, in Columbia, to Julia Ann Kresse, who survives at the home.

He was a 1948 graduate of Hickman High School. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he was awarded the Purple Heart.

He worked for Western Auto Company, Columbia, for 17 years as manager. He was a sales manager with Combined Insurance Company for three years, and retired from Westlake Hardware after 17 years of employment. He worked part-time at Rainbow Market Car Wash.

He was a member of New Life Ministries; the Concord Baptist Church,  Jefferson City; and was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church, Columbia.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Gwendolyn G. Gilmore,  Jefferson City; three sons, Albert R. Gilmore Jr., Russellville, Harry F. Gilmore, New Bloomfield, and David S. Gilmore,  Jefferson City; two sisters, Margaret Wood, Columbia, and Peggy Rhoades, Sturgeon; three brothers, Jack Gilmore and Bradley Gilmore, both of Columbia, and James Gilmore, Stover; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick Hopkins will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Columbia.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

GREEN

Rachel A. Green, 45, Centertown, died July 3, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.

She was born Dec. 5, 1956, in Louisville, Ky., a daughter of Charles E. and Ruby Marie Hall Richardson. Her mother survives in Louisville. She was married May 7, 1979, in Stanton, Ky., to Roger G. Green Sr., who survives at the home.

A resident of the central Missouri area since 1985, she was a homemaker.

Other survivors include: three sons, Everett Green, of the Navy, and Roger G. Green Jr. and Christopher Green, both of  Jefferson City; one sister, Eunice Jones, Louisville; two brothers, Tommy Richardson, Centertown, and Bill Lawson, Louisville; and one granddaughter.

Private family services were conducted.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.

RUSSELL

Ben Wood Russell Jr., 72,  Jefferson City, died July 7, 2001, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Center.

He was born June 21, 1929, in  Jefferson City, a son of Ben W. Sr. and Helen Barnett Russell. He was married July 31, 1971, in  Jefferson City, to Jeanne Porter Starks, who survives at the home.

A 1947 graduate of Southwest High School, St. Louis, he received an A.B. degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1956. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he received the Bronze Star. He also served in the Army Reserves and was a captain.

He was employed by the Missouri Board of Probation and Parole from 1956 until his retirement in 1992. In 1991, he was appointed to the Missouri Probation and Parole Board by Gov. John Ashcroft.

He was past president of the Missouri Correction Association; past member of the Industrial Advisory Committee for Prison Industries; and past chairman of the Correction Committee for the Missouri Law Enforcement Assistance Council.

After his retirement, he served on the Cole County Nutrition Council. He was an original member of the Learning in Retirement Board of Lincoln University, serving as the second president and a member of the board of directors. He was past president of the Cole County Association of Retired Missouri State Employees; past president of the State Association of Retired Missouri State Employees; and a member of the Retired State Employee Legislative Committee. He was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Missouri State Employees Retirement System in 1999. He was a past president of the Lincoln Investment Club.

He was a member of American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5; VFW, Roy Sone Post 1003; B.P.O. of Elks, Lodge 513, where he served as a volunteer at the Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia; American Association of Retired Persons; and Engineer Officers Candidate School Association.

Other survivors include: one son, Ben W. Russell III, Houston, Texas ; two stepsons, Richard S. Starks II, Overland Park, Kan., and David L. Starks, Olathe, Kan.; one stepdaughter, Catherine Starks Bertolotti,  Jefferson City; two grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.

Private burial with military honors will be Thursday in Resurrection Cemetery. The Rev. Greg Higley will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Freeman Mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to St. Judes Children's Cancer Hospital; Community Hospice of America, or Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Center.

PROCTOR

Kenneth Nelson Proctor, 74, Enon, died July 7, 2001, at his home.

He was born June 17, 1927, near Russellville, a son of Harry L. and Nellie Amos Proctor. He was married Jan. 17, 1948, in Enon, to Norma Jean Shikles, who survives at the home.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of 513 Operating Engineers, St. Louis, for 50 years. He was a foreman with Sterling Construction Co. for 27 years and he worked at  Jefferson Asphalt Company for 12 years. He also raised cattle and farmed.

He was a member of Enon Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. He had been Sunday school director and taught Sunday school.

He was president of the Enloe Cemetery Board, serving as sexton, and was on the Cole County R-1 School Board in Russellville for 18 years.

Other survivors include: two sons, Kenneth Proctor, Russellville, and Daniel Proctor,  Jefferson City; four daughters, Linda Acock, Sharon Brizendine, and Neva Bryant, all of Russellville, and Nancy Street, Liberty; three brothers, Elroy Proctor and Emmett Proctor, both of Russellville; and Melvin Proctor, Lee's Summit; three sisters, Imogene Baysinger, Olean, and Neva Smith and Laverne Miles, both of Russellville; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Enon Baptist Church. The Rev. Randy Trumbo and the Rev. Alan Earls will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Enloe Cemetery, Russellville.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Russellville.

Memorials are suggested to Missouri River Hospice or Enon Baptist Church.

BRANSON

William D. "Bill" Branson, 45, Auxvasse, died Saturday at Audrain Medical Center, Mexico.

He was born Oct. 9, 1955, in Fulton, a son of Everett L. and Wanda Lee Heather Branson. His parents survive in Auxvasse. He was married Oct. 1, 1993, to Deborah Stillman, who survives at the home.

He had been employed with the Fulton State Hospital since 1995. An automobile mechanic, he had worked for Nelson's Garage and had been involved with Nelson Racing. He was a member of the Grand Prairie Baptist Church.

Other survivors include: two sons, Rick Branson, Auxvasse, and Mark Branson, Holts Summit; two daughters, Becky Kemna, Ashland, and Kim Oligschlaeger, St. Elizabeth; two brothers, Kenny Branson, Auxvasse, and Roy Branson, Columbia; one sister, Alice Sue Spurlock, Marceline; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Mike Haldeman and Kenny Knipp will officiate. Burial will be in Auxvasse Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to the Branson Family in care of United Security Bank.

CAZZELL

Juanita Martin Cazzell, 73, Ashland, died July 7, 2001 at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.

She was born May 23, 1928, in Boone County, a daughter of Clyde M. and Elsie Lee Sapp. She was married May 5, 1945, in St. Louis, to James K. Martin Sr., who died in May 1986. She was married Aug. 1, 1988, in Hartsburg, to Virgil Cazzell, who died in July 1998.

She was a member of Hartsburg Baptist Church, American Legion Auxiliary 424, Hartsburg, and the American Association of Retired Persons. A former  Jefferson City resident, she attended First Church of God,  Jefferson City.

She worked for the Hamilton Shoe Factory, St. Louis, for six years and was an assistant and bookkeeper for Martin Construction from 1956 to 1964. She moved to Hartsburg and farmed from 1964 to 1986 and owned and operated Hartsburg Tavern from 1974 to 1979.

Survivors include: two sons, Bruce E. Martin and James K. "J.R." Martin Jr., both of Hartsburg; one stepson, Donald Cazzell, Eugene; three daughters, Beverly Rippeto, New Bloomfield, Kelli Rae Heckmann, Hartsburg, and Tiffany Haulenbeek, Centertown; two sisters, Maxine Woehrmann,  Jefferson City, and Macie Redden, Albuquerque, N.M.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Robinson Funeral Home, Ashland. Marvine Tolle will officiate. Burial will be in the New Salem Cemetery, Ashland.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the New Salem Cemetery and First Church of God.

JONES

John William Jones, 70, Williamsburg, died July 7, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.

He was born Aug. 26, 1930, in Covington, Ind., a son of Fred and Irene Miller Jones.

An army veteran of the Korean War, he had worked as an aide at the Fulton State Hospital before retiring in 1990.

He farmed in the Williamsburg area.

The cremains will be scattered over the farm.

Arrangements are under the direction of Debo Funeral Home, Fulton.

Memorials are suggested to the Kidney Dialysis Foundation.
