SMEDEGARD

Angela Roling Smedegard, 80, Mundelein, Ill., formerly of  Jefferson City, died Aug. 24, 2001, at her home.

She was born May 6, 1921, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of Frank and Bertha Dulle Roling. She was married April 7, 1952, in Chicago, to Leon A. Smedegard, who survives.

She attended  Jefferson City schools and was employed by Capital City Telephone Co.

She served in the Women's Army Corps from 1950 to 1952.

Other survivors include: three sons, Karl Smedegard, Flagstaff, Ariz., and Kevin Smedegard and Keith Smedegard, both of Mundelein; two sisters, Rose Bucher, Poway, Calif., and Loyola Priest, Eau Claire, Wis.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at Santa Maria Catholic Church, Mundelein. Burial will be in Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, Ill.

Arrangements are under the direction of Kristan Funeral Home, Mundelein.

BROOKS

Barbara Ann Brooks, 61, Rocky Mount, died Aug. 27, 2001, at Missouri Rehabilitation Center, Mt. Vernon.

She was born July 14, 1940, in Claremore, Okla., a daughter of Thurman R. "Tex" and Nettie Mae Bracher Bemis. She was married Feb. 20, 1954, in Osage Beach, to James B. Brooks, who survives at the home.

A homemaker, she was a member of Fellowship Bible Church, Eldon.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Tammy V. Brooks, Omaha, Neb., De'Ann Burton, Rocky Mount, and Virginia Carbone, St. Louis; one son, James R. "Bear" Brooks, Lake Ozark; and two grandsons.

One son, Donnie Brooks, died in 1984.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rekus Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Jay Quinn will officiate.

Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Thursday.

ADKISON

Rose Marie Adkison, 87, Richland, died Aug. 27, 2001, at Sunset Village of the Ozarks, St. Robert.

She was born March 19, 1914, in Ulman, a daughter of William H. and Ida A. Hobbs Stout. She was married Feb. 14, 1932, to Sherman Adkison, who died Nov. 26, 1989.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Richland. In 1985 she retired as a cook from Richland Public Schools.

Survivors include: three sons, Billy Adkison, Richland, George Adkison,  Jefferson City, and Terry Adkison, Russellville; one brother, Hubert Stout, Buffalo; one sister, Effie Earls, St. Peters; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Colonial Funeral Chapel, Richland. Pastor Doug Earls will officiate. Burial will be in Centerpoint Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Centerpoint Cemetery.

DAY

Mildred Opal Day, 87, Versailles, died Aug. 27, 2001, at Good Shepherd Care Center, Versailles.

She was born April 2, 1914, in Morgan County, a daughter of Jake S. and Sallie Smiley Morris. She was married Feb. 19, 1938, to Walter Ralph Day, who died Sept. 24, 1963.

She worked at Shryack Givens Grocery Company and Gerber in Versailles. She was a member of Versailles United Methodist Church, the Civic Club, United Methodist Women, Morgan County Historical Society, and was a former member of the B.P.W.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. The Rev. Gailya Dow will officiate. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to Versailles United Methodist Church.

HERNDON

Della Lorene Herndon, 84, Linn, died Aug. 28, 2001, at Green Meadows Skilled Care, Linn.

She was born March 31, 1917, in Osage County, a daughter of Hade and Viola Owens Branson. She was married Oct. 12, 1940, in Osage County, to Arvel Herndon, who died Dec. 2, 1989.

A lifelong resident of Osage County, she was a homemaker. She was a member of  Oklahoma Church of Christ, Osage County.

Survivors include: one son, Dennis Herndon, Kingdom City; one daughter, Mary Keeran, Jamestown; one sister, Opal Herndon, Chamois; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at  Oklahoma Church of Christ. Pastor Don King and Pastor Mark Gregor will officiate. Burial will be in  Oklahoma Church of Christ Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to  Oklahoma Church of Christ.

Arrangements are under the direction of Morton Funeral Home, Linn.

MORRIS

James Shelby Morris, 65,  Jefferson City, died Aug. 28, 2001, at Capital Region Medical Center.

He was born June 25, 1936, in Marshfield, a son of Homer S. and Rockey E. Bumgarner Morris.

He was a 1954 graduate of Marshfield High School, Marshfield, and served in the Army National Guard for seven years. A resident of the  Jefferson City area since 1966, he was employed as an accountant at the Missouri State Auditor's office.

He worked at the Missouri Division of Employment Security until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: two sons, James Stanley Morris and Randy Scott Morris, both of  Jefferson City; one daughter, April D. Morris Hoagland, Appleton City; one sister, Josephine Fields, Springfield; one brother, Eugene H. Morris, Springfield; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Marshfield. The Rev. Jerry Cooney will officiate.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Mortuary.

Memorials are suggested to Christ Community United Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association.

PACK

Ruth Louise Pack, 76,  Jefferson City, died Aug. 28, 2001, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Oct. 14, 1924, in Cole Camp, a daughter of Herbert and Kamilla Ehlers Riemenschnitter. She was married Sept. 19, 1946, in Hendersonville, N.C., to Stanley H. Pack, who died Aug. 3, 1978.

A 1942 graduate of  Jefferson City High School, she worked as a secretary at the Department of Social Services and the Missouri State Medical Association. She was a past member of Parents without Partners and the Methodist Church in Mexico.

Survivors include: three sons, Steven L. Pack, Colville, Wash., and David H. Pack and Douglas C. Pack, both of  Jefferson City; two daughters, Nancy A. Schetzler, Henley, and Catherine J. Whithaus,  Jefferson City; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Baker will officiate. Burial will be private.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to the Ruth Pack Grandchildren's Educational Fund.

COMBS

Sue Combs, 57, California, died Aug. 28, 2001, at her home.

Arrangements are incomplete at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California.

BIERBOWER

Rosie Bierbower, 60, Eldon, died Aug. 31, 2001, in  Jefferson City.

She was born Feb. 19, 1941, in Eldon, a daughter of Sebe Robbins and Doris Knoch Robbins. She was married Dec. 22, 1966, in Las Vegas, to Ed Bierbower, who survives at the home.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Eldon; the Eldon Sewing Club; and Chapter CH P.E.O.

Other survivors include: one son, Joe Lee Bierbower, Stayton, Ore.; one daughter, Tina Laine Snyder, Baker, Ore.; two sisters, Vicky Gillispie, Sequim, Wash., and Wanda Enloe, Eldon; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. Shirley Williams will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church of Eldon.
