COOTS
Alma Agnes Coots, 93, New Bloomfield, died March 8, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 18, 1909, in Brumley, a daughter of Chancey and Cora Burks Reinhart. She was married Nov. 30, 1936, to Edgar James Coots, who died Nov. 5, 1978.
She worked at Stride Rite Shoe Company and Tweedie Shoe Company. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church in New Bloomfield. She was a member of the XYZ Club and the Slusher Club.
Survivors include: two sons, Jim Coots, Holts Summit, and Jerry Coots, New Bloomfield; one daughter, Debbie Coots, New Bloomfield; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Providence Baptist Church. The Rev. Jim Shaver will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hartsburg.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Debo Funeral Home in Holts Summit, and from 1-2 p.m. Monday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
CRIPPEN
Ruth Marie Crippen, 78, Popular Bluff, died March 8, 2002, at Mark Twain Caring Center, Popular Bluff.
She was born Feb. 11, 1924, in California, a daughter of Ralph and Esther Weisser Hall.
She graduated from Versailles High School in 1942. She retired as an insurance underwriter with Dodson Insurance Agency, Kansas City, in 1990 after 39 years.
Survivors include: four brothers, Kent Hall, Stevens Point, Wis., Courtland Hall, Sioux Falls, S.D., Mark Hall, Anchorage, Alaska, and Morris Hall, Spring, Texas ; and three sisters, JoAnn Gray, Popular Bluff, Mollie Allen, St. Joseph, and Sharon Scherbak, Phoenix.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Weber and Sons Funeral Home, California. Morris Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Evangelical Reform Cemetery, California.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday.
SMITH
Lynda C. Smith, 56, formerly of Jefferson City, died March 8, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.
She was born May 27, 1945, in Huntsville, a daughter of J.G. and Louida Thomas. Her mother survives in Huntsville.
She was married June 26, 1965, in Darksville, to Kenny Smith, who survives in Mexico.
She worked as a secretary at Mexico Junior High School from 1985 to 2001. She was a member of Mount Shiloh Baptist Church, Darksville.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Melanie Oetting, Mexico; two sons, Parker Smith and Casey Smith, both of Mexico; and three grandsons.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pickering Funeral Home, Mexico. The Rev. David Gottman will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Mexico.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. today.

WALTHER
Thomas Victor Walther, 95, Jefferson City, died March 9, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born Nov. 19, 1906, in Gasconade, a son of George A. and Elizabeth Rabenau Walther. He was married April 14, 1946, in Jefferson City, to Nellie Pearl Boyse, who died Nov. 30, 1980.
He attended Gasconade public schools. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Central United Church of Christ, the Churchmen's Brotherhood, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Roy Sone Post 1003 and the Jefferson City Lodge 43 A.F. & A.M.
He worked for the Corps of Engineers in Gasconade, served as a fireman on the Meriweather Lewis and worked for the Standard Oil Barge. He owned the Gasconade Mercantile General Store. He worked for the Survey and Plans Department of the Missouri State Highway Department in Jefferson City until his retirement in 1976.
Survivors include: two sons, David Thomas Walther and John Boyse Walther, both of Jefferson City; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Buescher Memorial Home. The Rev. Stephen H. Buchholz will officiate. Burial will be in Evangelical Section of Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to Central United Church of Christ.
WIELE
Helen I. Wiele, 98, Morrison, died March 8, 2002, at Hermann Area District Hospital.
She was born Aug. 16, 1903, in Gasconade, a daughter of Oscar and Lydia Townley Seidner. She was married Oct. 25, 1923, in Hermann, to Oscar H. Wiele, who preceded her in death.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. James United Church of Christ, Morrison, and Order of the Eastern Star, Chamois.
Survivors include: one son, Dennis Wiele, Florissant; one daughter, Fay Johnson, Lafayette, La.; two sisters, Lydia Wulff, Dubuque, Iowa, and Ethel Moreland, St. Louis; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. James United Church of Christ, Morrison. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery, Morrison.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home, Morrison.
Memorials are suggested to St. James United Church of Christ, Morrison.
ALLEN
Bessie Elizabeth Allen, 82, Jefferson City, died March 9, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born March 23, 1919, in Waverly, a daughter of Arthur B. and Emma Cox Closterman. She was married Aug. 21, 1936, in Marshall, to Henry Chapin Allen, who survives at the home.
She graduated from Waverly High School. She was a homemaker and a member of the Capital City Christian Church in Jefferson City.
Survivors include: two sons, John A. Allen, Columbia, and Norman S. Allen, Jefferson City; two daughters, Joyce Johnson, Jefferson City, and Linda Gruchala, Bellville, Ill.; two sisters, Helen Fenner, Malta Bend, and Lucille Little, Des Moines, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
One son, Rodney Allen, died June 21, 2001.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors in Jefferson City. The Rev. Eric Allen and the Rev. Gary Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Deer Creek Cemetery in Chamois.
Visitation will be from 4-7:30 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30-10 a.m. Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
AMENT
LeRoy J. Ament, 61, Russellville, died March 9, 2002, at his home.
He was born July 1, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa, a son of Benjamin F. and Mildred A. Kanarr Ament. He was married Oct. 16, 1965, in Osage Bend, to Marjorie Barth, who survives at the home.
He worked for the Jefferson City Public School District, St. Michael's Catholic Church, Jungmeyer Grocery and Russellville Locker as a custodian. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and St. Michael's Knights of Columbus 8916. He was a member of California Eagles Post 4027, the North American Hunting Club and the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include: two brothers, Kenneth Ament, Springfield, and Charles Ament, Jefferson City; three sisters, Christina Shelden, Russellville, Shirley Davis, Centertown, and Carol Meller, Holts Summit.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church. The Rev. Rob Fields will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Weber and Sons Funeral Home in Russellville.
Memorials are suggested to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
FORBIS
Raymond Lee Forbis, 88, New Bloomfield, died March 10, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born Nov. 22, 1913, in Holts Summit, a son of Wesley and Ella Rhodes Forbis. He was married April 21, 1956, to Freddy Ann Hensley, who died Oct. 19, 1998.
He was a truck driver for St. Clair Oil Company, retiring in 1978. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in New Bloomfield.
Survivors include: one stepson, William Reed Reynolds, Macon; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hopewell Baptist Church. The Rev. Rick Hopkins will officiate. Burial will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens in Fulton.
Visitations will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Debo Funeral Home in Holts Summit.
GARRETT
Gerald A. Garrett, 82, Eldon, died March 9, 2002, in Osage Beach.
He was born Nov. 17, 1919, Kansas City, Kan., a son of Chester A. and Bertie Lee Vernon Garrett. He was married June 15, 1940, in Tuscumbia, to Icel Platter Garrett, who preceded him in death.
He worked for Swift & Co., in Kansas City, Kan., for 35 years. He was also a carpenter. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Stony Point Christian Church in Kansas City, Kan. He was a member of the Eldon VFW Post 2442.
Survivors include: two sons, Donald H. Garrett Sr., Lyndon, Kan., and Robert A. Garrett, Overland Park, Kan.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home in Eldon. The Rev. Walter D. Simpson will officiate. Burial will be in Dooley Cemetery in Eldon.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday.
