NEUTZLER

Mary G. Neutzler, 72,  Jefferson City, died March 22, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

She was born Nov. 5, 1929, in Silex, a daughter of Olin V. and Gertrude G. O'Brien Kimler. She was married July 11, 1953, in Columbia, to Hubert J. "Hubie" Neutzler, who survives at the home.

A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, she was a 1948 graduate of Silex High School and a 1952 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia with a bachelor's of science degree in nutrition.

From 1952 to 1953, she was employed as the cafeteria manager at Central High School in St. Louis. From 1974 until her retirement in June 2001, she was employed as a research analyst with the Missouri Department of Health.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Cathedral, a member of the Jay Football Booster Club and a volunteer with the American Red Cross.

Other survivors include: one son, Frank Kimler Neutzler, Independence; two daughters, Karen Ann Meinz, Southlake, Texas , and Karla Jean Neutzler, Keller, Texas ; one sister, Margaret Ann "Pat" Hidlebaugh,  Jefferson City; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Cathedral. The Rev. Fred Elskamp will officiate. Entombment will be in the mausoleum of Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in the Freeman Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of  Jefferson City and Mid-Missouri.

JACOBS

Henry L. Jacobs, 81, Albuquerque, died March 20, 2002, in Albuquerque.

He was born March 16, 1921, in California, a son of Eugene A. and Julia Louise Sarman Jacobs. He was married in 1955 to Lynn Lowell Jacobs, who preceded him in death. He was married in 1977 to Ann Sebring Jacobs, who preceded him in death.

He graduated from California High School in 1939. From 1942 to 1945, he served in the U.S. Army, First Calvary Division, in the World War II Pacific theater. He attended the University of New Mexico from 1946 to 1950. In 1955, he earned a master's degree.

He was a member of the S.A.E. fraternity; an alumni letterman's club; a four-year letterman in baseball; and business manager of the university's newspaper.

He played professional baseball, taught and coached in Albuquerque public schools from 1951-1981 and received the baseball Coach of the Year Award for District No. 6 in 1973 from the National High School Coaches Association.

He taught and coached at  Jefferson Junior High School from 1951 to 1960 and at Manzano High School from 1960 to 1981.

He was a baseball scout for the Milwaukee Braves, the New York Mets, and the Cincinnati Reds.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Weber and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in California. The Rev. Gary Schulte will officiate. Burial will be in the California City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

TICHELKAMP

Arthur H. Tichelkamp, 61,  Jefferson City, died March 22, 2002, at his home.

He was born Jan. 22, 1941, in  Jefferson City, a son of Henry P. and Rose Miller Tichelkamp. His parents survive in  Jefferson City. He was married Aug. 27, 1960, in Loose Creek, to Maxine Farnces Kremer, who survives.

He attended the Immaculate Conception Parochial school and St. Peters High School. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Firemen's Local 671 and the Honda Motorcycle Club.

He worked as a firefighter with the  Jefferson City Fire Department. He was the owner and operator of Art's Pest Control, Inc. until his retirement.

Other survivors include: seven daughters, Cheryl Rose Jansen and Brenda Legora Starke, both of Bonnots Mill, Glenda Sue Cowley,  Jefferson City, Marsha Lynn Klein, Kansas City, Donna Kay Wibberg, Linn, Gayle Ann Nugent, Tulsa, Okla., and Dana Renee Rustemeyer, Frankenstein; one brother, Neil Joseph Tichelkamp,  Jefferson City; two sisters, Gloria Jean Phelps and Susan Marie Horn, both of  Jefferson City; and 19 grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Buescher Memorial Home. The Rev. Timothy Tatro will officiate. Burial will be in Longview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

BAX

Jonathan Ross Bax, 16, Wardsville, died March 24, 2002, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

He was born Aug. 10, 1985, in Wichita, Kan., a son of John L. and Rose B. Boessen Bax, who survive in Wardsville.

He was a junior at Blair Oaks High School in Wardsville and a member of the junior varsity baseball team.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville.

Other survivors include: one sister, Samantha Bax, Wardsville; paternal grandmother, Clara Bax, St. Elizabeth; and maternal grandparents, John H. and Irene Boessen, St. Thomas.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. The Rev. Louis E. Dorn and the Rev. Donald J. Antweiler will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a rosary at 4 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors,  Jefferson City.

Memorials are suggested to Masses at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.

BACKES

Sophie F. Backes, 75, Linn, died March 24, 2002, at her home.

She was born Nov. 26, 1926, in Frankenstein, a daughter of J.Gus and Nellie Haslag Kremer. She was married May 6, 1950, in Frankenstein, to Arthur Backes, who survives at the home.

She was a lifelong resident of Osage County and attended St. Mary's School in Frankenstein. She was a homemaker and worked at Scholastic, Inc. and at Eastend Day Care Center, both in  Jefferson City. She was a member of St. George Church, Linn.

Survivors include: three sons, Gary Backes, Jerry Backes, and Terry Backes, all of Linn; two daughters, Penny Kleffner,  Jefferson City, and Wendy Keyser, Pendleton, Ind.; seven sisters, Annie Backes and Betty Brandt, both of Linn, Johanna Thoenen, Pauline Thoenen, Martha Backes and Gertrude Broker, all of Frankenstein, and Josephine Roettgen,  Jefferson City; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

One grandson preceded her in death.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. George Church, Linn. The Rev. Daniel I.J. Lueckenotte will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 8 p.m., at Morton Funeral Home, Linn.

Memorials are suggested to Missouri River Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

KEERAN

Lucille Ruth Keeran, 90, California, died March 24, 2002, at California Care Center.

She was born Nov. 30, 1911, near Jamestown, a daughter of Robert and Maggie Hunter Cofer. She was married April 23, 1927, in Centertown, to Pyrelle N. "Rell" Keeran, who preceded her in death.

She attended Mulberry School. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: seven sons, Robert Keeran, Ronald Keeran, Layton Keeran, and James Keeran, all of California, Max Keeran, Centertown, Raymond Keeran, and Leslie Wayne Keeran, both of Jamestown; 32 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Two sons, Gerald David Keeran and Richard Kenneth Keeran, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California. Leslie Olsen and Don Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery north of California.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

PONDER

William L. "Bill" Ponder, 58, California, died March 24, 2002, at his home.

He was born Oct. 5, 1943, in California, a son of Ray and Viola Sanders Ponder. He was married May 20, 1967, in California, to Joanne Goff, who survives at the home.

He attended California High School. He worked for Cargill, Inc., in maintenance for the last nine years.

He formerly worked for the Standard Station and Todd-Hogge Ford as a mechanic.

He was a member of St. Martins Catholic Church.

Survivors include: two sons, William M. Ponder and Derek R. Ponder, both of California; one daughter, Nicole M. Ponder, Centertown; one brother, Virgil Brizendine, California; one sister, Belenda Buchanan, Holts Summit; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martins Catholic Church. The Rev. Edwin Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, in care of Judy Allee, PO Box 333, Latham, Mo. 65050, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

PREWETT

Clarence Prewett, 55, Dixon, died March 22, 2002, in Springfield, Ill.

He was born Oct. 23, 1946, in Waynesville, a son of Woodrow and Margaret Monger Prewett. His mother survives in Dixon.

He worked for American Commercial Barge Line Company, Indianapolis, Ind., for 30 years. He was a chief engineer. He also worked briefly for Steel City Barge Company, Pittsburgh, and B&W Towing Company, Paducah, Ky. He was a member of the Broadway Baptist Church in St. James. He was a Air Force veteran of the Vietnam and Korean wars.

Survivors include one son, Joshua Prewett, St. James; one brother, Jim Prewett, Dixon; one half brother, Larry Prewett, Jerome.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Dixon. The Rev. John Parker and the Rev. Pryor Ray Prewett will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Pisgah Cemetery near Dixon.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today and from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church in Dixon.

RIPPSTEIN

Otto A. Rippstein, 73, Chamois, died March 24, 2002, at his home.

He was born June 19, 1928, in Chamois, a son of Victor and Edna Witthaus Rippstein. He was married April 11, 1953, in Chamois, to Helen Pack, who died Jan. 9, 1984.

He was a truck driver and mechanic for Bogler Trucking Company in Chamois for 20 years. He also was a mechanic for Duffner-Corbett Car Dealership in Hermann for two years and Hensleys Garage in Chamois for five years. He worked for the Missouri State Highway Department for 12 years until his retirement in 1991.

Survivors include: one son, Glen Rippstein,  Jefferson City; one daughter, Tiiann Greer, Katy, Texas ; one sister, Ada Ocheskey, Bonnots Mill; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meyer-Hilke-Millard Funeral Home, Chamois. The Rev. Lowell Perkins will officiate. Burial will be in Chamois City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society or the Emphysema Foundation.
