IRWIN
Weldon Irwin, 78, Topeka, Kan., died July 13, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka.
He was born March 17, 1924, in Iberia, a son of William R. and Gertrude Edith Carroll Irwin. He was married Sept. 1, 1962, in Miami, Okla., to Sonja L. Frandsen, who survives at the home.
He was a former resident of Iberia, St. Elizabeth and Kansas City. He worked as an engineer for the Santa Fe railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, the Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge 446 AF and AM in Kansas City and Blue Ridge Trinity Lutheran Church in Raytown. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Kathy Collins, Topeka, Kan., and Lisa Kintz, Houston, Texas ; three sisters, Capitola Rehagen, St. Elizabeth, Ramona McKinnon, Orlando, Fla., and Barbara Stuemph, Kansas City; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. Stan Way will officiate. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery near Crocker.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday.
BACKER
Edna Naomi Backer, 78, Holts Summit, died July 14, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born Sept. 4, 1923, in St. Louis, a daughter of Aubrey and Edna Humphrey Knight Jones. She was married June 3, 1956, in Fulton, to Harrison Yates Backer, who survives.
She taught school in southeast Missouri, Fulton MSD, and Mokane for 29 years before retiring. She was a member of DAV Auxlilary in Jefferson City and American Legion Auxiliary 210 in Fulton. She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church in Holts Summit, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years.
Other survivors include: one son, Homer Yates Backer, Plattsmouth, Neb.; two daughters, Shirley Naomi Hodges, Holts Summit, and Gloria Jean Hodges, Ashland; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Union Hill Baptist Church in Holts Summit. The Rev. David Higgs and the Rev. Dale Norfolk will officiate. Burial will be in Summit Memorial Park in Holts Summit.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to Union Hill Baptist Church Building Fund.
HECKMAN
Regina Josephine Heckman, 89, Koeltztown, died July 14, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born Nov. 6, 1912, in Koeltztown, a daughter of John and Catherine Luebbert Reinsch. She was married Oct. 24, 1933, in Koeltztown, to William Gerhard Heckman, who died Feb. 11, 1999.
She was a homemaker and worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue, retiring in 1978. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Koeltztown. She was a member of St. Ann Sodality and the Quilting Circle.
Survivors include: one son, William L. Heckman, Koeltztown; three daughters, Margaret Brune, Meta, Catherine Smith, Koeltztown, and Beatrice Heckman, Jefferson City; 24 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren.
One daughter, Bernice Heckman, and one son, Wilfred P. Heckman, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Koeltztown. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, Westphalia. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

HERREN
Anna Mae Herren, 88, O'Fallon, died July 14, 2002, at her home.
She was born Nov. 25, 1913, in Elston, a daughter of Ellis and Delpha Ann Butcher. She was married to Thurlow D. Herren, who survives.
She was a homemaker and a member of Cornerstone Methodist Church in O'Fallon.
Other survivors include: two sons, Don Herren, Maricopa, Ariz., and Floyd Herren, St. Charles; three daughters, Susan Schellman and Marilyn Earnest, both of O'Fallon, and Janet Luetkenhaus, St. Peters; 21 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Baue Funeral Home, O'Fallon. Burial will be in Elston Cemetery in Elston.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to the American Kidney Foundation or Cornerston Methodist Church.
McNEALY
Services were today for Pauline McNealy, 86, Sedalia, who died July 12, 2002, at St. Joseph Home for the Aged.
She was born Oct. 12, 1915, in Little Rock, Ark., a daughter of Henry C. and Rachel Bland Ewing. She was married Nov. 7, 1936, in Sedalia, to Charles William McNealy, who died May 15, 2001.
She was a homemaker and lived in Sedalia most of her life. She was a member of East Sedalia Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She was past matron of Sedalia Chapter 57 Order of the Eastern Star and a past district deputy grand matron Order of the Eastern Star. She was past worthy high priestess of White Shrine of Jerusalem and past guardian of Jobs Daughters. She was a member of AARP 2821 and past president of the Whittier PTA.
Survivors include one daughter, Sue Englund, Jefferson City, two grandsons and three great-grandchildren.
Services were at Heckart/Gillespie Colonial Chapel. The Rev. H. Wayne Isgriggs officiated. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Show-Me-Christian Youth Home.
ROST
Edward Rost, 47, Jefferson City, died July 15, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.

POLLOCK
Lt. Colonel Carl A. Pollock, ret., 84, Jefferson City, died July 16, 2002, at his home.
He was born Oct. 12, 1917, in Powersville, a son of D.W. and Hazel Allen Pollock. He was married Dec. 9, 1942, in Kansas City, to Dardanella Milkovich, who survives at the home.
He graduated from Powersville High School. He served in the Army from 1942 until his retirement in 1962.
He was a veteran of World War II and two tours of duty in the Korean War, receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Soldiers Medal for Valor.
A resident of the Jefferson City area since 1964, he worked with the Missouri Division of Design and Construction for several years and as an engineer with the Missouri Department of Corrections until his retirement in 1982.
He was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral and a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was a member of the BPO of Elks and the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association.
Survivors include: two sons, Allen Pollock, Jefferson City, and Jack Pollock, Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, Dr. I.O. Pollock, Oklahoma City, and Wilson Pollock, Santa Fe, N.M.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Cathedral. The Rev. Thomas McGrath will officiate. Graveside services and entombment with military honors will be in the mausoleum of Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Freeman Mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Helias Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
BOTTOMS
Larry Gayle Bottoms, 63, Jefferson City, died July 16, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.
He was born July 4, 1939, in Boonville, a son of Hayden M. and Agnes Virginia Wingate Bottoms. His mother survives in Boonville. He was married May 29, 1971, in Jefferson City, to Patsy Surface, who survives at the home.
He was a graduate of Prairie Home R-V High School. He owned and operated Bottoms Standard Station, was a salesman for Prigmore Chevrolet and worked at the Boonville Training School for Boys. He was a signing and marking inspector for the Missouri Department of Transportation until his retirement. Following retirement, he worked for Riverview Cemetery. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Other survivors include: two sons, Kelly G. Bottoms, Harrisonville, and Michael D. Bottoms, Brighton; one daughter, Diana L. Wiebusch, Peculiar; two sisters, Shirley S. Lucas, Prairie Home, and Becky B. Weston, Columbia; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church. The Rev. Alvin Lange will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors.
Memorials are suggested to Faith Lutheran Church.
HOOPER
Don Hooper, 68, California, died July 15, 2002, at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital. Columbia.
He was born Feb. 21, 1934, in Plattsburg, a son of Archie E. and Lueiza E. Johnson Hooper. He was married Nov. 5, 1954, in Kansas City, to Wanda F. Hamilton, who survives at the home.
He graduated from Plattsburg High School. He worked for Ford Motor Company where he received Top Hatter awards. He owned and operated heavy truck and equipment dealerships in Arkansas and North Carolina for 27 years. He was a Baptist. He was an Air Force veteran.
Other survivors include: one son, Michael Keith Reynolds Hooper, California; one daughter, Susan Elizabeth Hooper Bernhardt, Zimmerman, Minn; one brother, Estil Hooper, state of California; one sister, Una Bey Johnson, Kansas City; and nine grandchildren.
One son, Kevin Ray Hooper, preceded him in death.
Graveside services with military honors will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Jefferson City National Cemetery. The Rev. Greg Morrow will officiate.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.
