EVANS

Beatrice Evans, 97, Tipton, died July 20, 2002, at Tipton Manor, Tipton.

She was born June 2, 1905, in Florence, a daughter of Elbert R. and Ophelia Mothersbaugh Evans.

She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Florence. She taught for more than 50 years at various colleges. She earned a masters degree in education and specialized in bacteriology.

Survivors include: one nephew, Charles Elbert Gottschalk, Knob Noster; and two nieces, Dorothy Gottschalk, Columbia, and Mary Beth Kahler, state of Massachusetts.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Florence. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Florence.

Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. today at Meisenheimer-Griswold Funeral Home, Tipton.

KELLER

Brandy Dawn Keller, 25, Holts Summit, died July 19, 2002, at her home.

She was born June 1, 1977, in Chaffee, a daughter of Jimmy Keller and Theresa Powell. Her mother and stepfather, Theresa and Michael Powell, survive in New Bloomfield. Her father survives in Chaffee.

She attended State Fair Community College,  Jefferson City.

Other survivors include: one son, Christopher Keller, of the home; one daughter, Acayshia Keller, of the home; one brother, J.R. Keller, Chaffee; one stepsister, Melissa Freet, St. Peters; maternal grandmother, Margie Stricklin, Chaffee; step grandmother, Agnes Powell, Holts Summit; and great-grandparents, Kathenia Ross and John and Alice Sanders, all of Chaffee.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel, Chaffee. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, near Morley.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Debo Funeral Home, Holts Summit, and from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to Brandy Keller's Children's Fund.

LEONARD

Frances Mary Leonard, 86, Centertown, died July 19, 2002, near Centertown.

She was born Oct. 7, 1915, in  Oklahoma, a daughter of Antone and Leona Carel Hentges. She was married June 13, 1940, in California, to Herman A. "Pat" Leonard, who survives at the home.

She worked at Oberman Pants Factory,  Jefferson City, and Ralston Purina until her retirement. She was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Sodality and the Union WPFA Quilters. She attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School,  Jefferson City.

Other survivors include: one son, Patrick Leonard, Centertown; one daughter, Mary Lou Porter, Centertown; two brothers, Norbert Hentges, Clarksburg, and Bernie Hentges, Senath; eight grandchildren, two step grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Annunciation Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. Greg Higley will officiate. Burial will be in Annunciation Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Annunciation Catholic Church Building Fund, 414 Patrick Street, California, Mo.

MELLER

Sylvester M. Meller, 86,  Jefferson City, died July 19, 2002, at the Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

He was born June 9, 1916, in Lohman, a son of Frederick G. and Clara Limbach Meller. He was married Jan. 5, 1937, in St. Martins, to Mildred Wekamp, who died in 1980.

He attended school in Lohman and was a farmer in the rural  Jefferson City area. He also owned and operated Meller Excavating and Contracting in  Jefferson City.

He was a member of the World Wide Church of Christ.

Survivors include: two sons, Jerry Meller and Steve Meller, both of  Jefferson City; three brothers, Lawrence Meller, Henry Meller and Pat Meller, all of Lohman; two sisters, Marie Hentges,  Jefferson City, and Helen Kirchner, Lohman; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Meller, in 1973, and one grandson.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville. Burial will be in the St. Martins Cemetery, St. Martins.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

RAINS

Georgia Ann Rains, 57, Columbia, died July 19, 2002, at University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics, Columbia.

She was born June 26, 1945, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of George J. and Patsy Ruth Loethen Holland Sr. Her mother survives in Holts Summit. She was married April 26, 1980, in Columbia, to Terry Rains, who survives in Columbia.

She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church, Holts Summit.

Other survivors include: one son, Charles Matthew Martin, Columbia; three daughters, Patsy Nadine Heusted, Marshall, and Winona May Fern Rains and Mary Elizabeth Rains, both of Columbia; two brothers, George James Holland Jr. and Cecil Thomas Holland, both of Holts Summit; three sisters, Mary Jane Shipley and Belinda Faye Chauvin, both of  Jefferson City, and Linda Kaye Asher, Holts Summit; and 10 grandchildren.

One granddaughter preceded her in death.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbia. Chris Cook will officiate.

Memorials are suggested to Oakland Senior Center, 2116 Vandiver Dr., Columbia, Mo. 65202 or CMAAA.

SHULTZ

Jessie I. Shultz, 90, Versailles, died July 20, 2002, at Capital Region Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 30, 1912, in Cunningham, Kan., a daughter of Francis and Verda Park Morris. She was married Dec. 5, 1933, to James M. Shultz, who died July 20, 1991.

She was a nurse in Versailles for 20 years. She was a member of Versailles United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one son, James Morris Shultz, Springfield; one daughter, Barbara Jean Porter, Mason, Ohio; two brothers, Everett Morris, North Pole, Alaska, and Jack Morris, Willits, Calif.; five sisters, Elva Dumas, Citrus Heights, Calif., Viola Hannick, Scottsdale, Ariz., Lorene Coombe, Eureka, Calif., Nora Tucker, Willits, Calif., and Bonnie Benback, Redwood Valley, Calif.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. The Rev. Jeanie Leeper will officiate. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

WARD

Carleton E. Ward, 74, Osage Beach, died July 19, 2002, at Lake Regional Health System.

He was born Dec. 16, 1927, in Minneapolis, a son of Robert and Margaret Sellers Ward. He was married Jan. 16, 1960, in Chicago, to Virginia Klabisch, who survives at the home.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He worked as a CPA and in the real estate business in Osage Beach. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Chicago and a former member of the Elks Lodge.

Services will be at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach.

BAKER

Autumn Valdez Baker, 6, Jamestown, died July 19, 2002, at University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics, Columbia, from injuries sustained in an accident.

Arrangements are at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, California.

JOHNSON

Ronald Dale Johnson, 49, Stover, died July 20, 2002, at University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics.

He was born Aug. 31, 1952, in Morgan County, a son of Charles E. and Hester E. Walters Johnson.

Survivors include: three sons, Levi Johnson and Cody Johnson, both of the home, and Charlie Johnson, Versailles; four daughters, Robin Johnson and Marla Johnson, both of the home, Michella Salmons, Kansas City, and Crystal Bauermeister, Gravois Mills; two brothers, Lee Johnson, Mexico, and Loren Johnson, Syracuse; five sisters, Genevieve Guthrie, Lockeford, Calif., Thelma Tomblinson, Barnett, Darlene Lutjen, Sedalia, Sharon Kay Branch, Versailles, and Debbie Gilmore, Bunceton; fiancée, Barbara Moore; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. The Rev. Danny Owsley will officiate. Burial will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Tuesday.

ZEHENDNER

Jo Ann Zehendner, 70,  Jefferson City, died July 20, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born Nov. 2, 1931, in Topeka, Kan., a daughter of Karl and Evelyn Sommerville Ernst. Her mother survives in Manhattan, Kan. She was married June 22, 1952, in Topeka, Kan., to Charles Stevenson, who survives. She was married March 30, 1981, in  Jefferson City, to Fred L. Zehendner, who survives at the home.

She graduated from Topeka High School and attended Stephens College in Columbia. She graduated from Lincoln University as a registered nurse. She was a resident of the  Jefferson City area since 1964 and worked as a registered nurse at St. Marys Health Center from 1973 until 1995. She also worked as a school bus driver for the  Jefferson City Public Schools.

Other survivors include: two sons, Jay Stevenson, Topeka, Kan., and Don Stevenson, Allen, Texas ; two daughters, Dana Stevenson Abouelnasr, Atlanta, Ga., and Dee Ann Stevenson Spiher,  Jefferson City; one sister, Carol Gunter, Manhattan, Kan.; and five grandchildren.

Private family services will be at Freeman Mortuary.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to the Jo Ann Zehendner Scholarship Fund or the Cole County First Responders.
