GUM
LaVivian Grace Gum, 76, Four Seasons, died June 19, 1999, at Lake of the Ozarks General Hospital, Osage Beach.
She was born
Dec. 13, 1922, in Bloom, Kan., a daughter of Adolph and Ethel Dilly Melgren. She was married
June 22, 1940, in Modesto, Calif., to Rowland H. Gum, who survives at the home.
She moved to Missouri in 1990. She was active in ladies golf at Four Seasons and in several bridge groups.
Other survivors include: three sons, Russell Gum, Tucson, Ariz., Marty Gum, Four Seasons, and Steve Gum, Camdenton; six grandsons and one step grandson.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Lake Memorial Gardens, Osage Beach. The Rev. Colleen Carroll will officiate.
Visitation will be from noon-2 p.m. Thursday at Hedges Funeral Home, Osage Beach.
Memorials are suggested to The American Liver Foundation, 1425 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove, N.J. 07009.
Arrangements are also under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon.
HELTON
Terry L. Helton, 54, Bolivar, formerly of Iberia, died June 20, 1999, at Citizen's Memorial Hospital, Bolivar.
He was born
May 15, 1945, in Kansas City, a son of Lloyd L. and Ruby Geraldine "Jerry" Clark Helton. He parents survive in Ulman. He was married
Jan. 21, 1967, in Joplin, to Donna J. Drake, who survives at the home.
He attended high school in Iberia and Tuscumbia and was a 1963 graduate of Blue Eye High School, Blue Eye. He was a 1969 graduate of Missouri Southern, Joplin. An Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, he gave flight instructions to the South Vietnamese army.
He lived in Evansdale, Iowa, where he worked as a flight instructor and later owned a screen printing business. He moved to Vinton, Iowa, where he became city administrator. He was Hermann city administrator from 1990 to 1997, and had served as Bolivar city administrator since 1997.
Other survivors include: one son, Jacob Helton, of the home; one brother, Steve Helton, Rolla; and five sisters, Janice Smith, Lake Ozark, Sharon Abbott and Judy Ahart, both of Ulman, Charlotte Brumley, Tuscumbia, and Melissa Barnhart, Eldon.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Rekus Funeral Home, Iberia. The Rev. Michael A. Coleman will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in Mount Zion Cemetery, near Tuscumbia.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday.
HOWARD
Ivalene Howard, 61, Jefferson City, died June 21, 1999, at her home.
She was born
March 20, 1938, in Kingsport, Tenn., a daughter of William C. and Amanda Lawson Stapleton. She was married
Jan. 8, 1955, in Pennington Gap, Va., to Robert Howard, who survives at the home.
She attended St. Charles High School in Virginia and nursing school in Terra Haute, Ind.
She worked as a certified medical technician at St. Joseph's Nursing Home from 1992-1993, and at Oak View Living Center from 1987-1992.
She also worked at the Tanning Hut since 1993.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Diane Prenger, Jefferson City; one brother, Paul Stapleton, Kingsport; two sisters, Christine Carroll and Fleta Johnson, both of Kingsport; and four grandchildren.
One son, Jack G. Howard, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. William Boyette will officiate. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
PETTIGREW
Edward W. "Tuffy" Pettigrew, 82, Latham, died June 21, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.

CAMPBELL
Jewel Donald Campbell, 74, Gravois Mills, died June 22, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born
Sept. 25, 1924, in Russellville, a son of Otto and Elza Roark Campbell. He was married
June 13, 1945, in Richmond, Calif., to Irene Anna Strobel, who died Sept. 13, 1986.
A graduate of Russellville High School, he received a bachelor's degree from California State University-Los Angeles. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was chief financial officer for Comarco, Inc., Oxnard, Calif.
Survivors include: four sons, Jewell Donald Campbell Jr., Ventura, Calif., and Michael Dean Campbell, Gregory Bryan Campbell and James Douglas Campbell, all of Kansas City; one brother, Alden Campbell, Lohman; and six grandchildren.
He was cremated.
Graveside services and inurnment will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Enloe Cemetery, Russellville.
Arrangements are under the direction of Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home, Russellville.
DURST
Betty Litton Durst, 74, Fulton, died June 9, 1999, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.
She was born
April 14, 1925, in Scott, Ark., a daughter of Alfred G. and Sue Rhea Ware Litton. She was married
Dec. 18, 1953, in Paragould, Ark., to Dr. Henry Durst, who died in 1985.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Fulton; Friends of the Library; General Federated Woman's Club; and retired senior and volunteer programs.
She served on the Callaway County Extension Council and was a member of the board of directors of the Central Missouri Area Agency on Aging, and was a volunteer for SERVE.
Survivors include: two sons, Dr. David L. Durst, Huntsville, Ala., and Robert C. Durst, Oakton, Va.; one stepson, Henry H. Durst, Millersburg; one stepdaughter, Nancy Durst Forsee, Fulton; one brother, Robert James Litton, Conway, Ark.; three grandchildren and three step grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Frank Ehman will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church or to Friends of the Library.
Arrangements are under the direction of Maupin Funeral Home, Fulton.
FREDERICK
Bessie L. Frederick, 78, Camdenton, died June 23, 1999, at Windsor Estates Nursing Home.
She was born
Oct. 15, 1920, a daughter of Greenberry and Bertha Cyrus Rogers. She was married
Feb. 1, 1939, in Hugo, to John Howard Frederick, who died April 8, 1979.
An area resident for most of her life, she was employed at Sundstrand (Modine) Tubular Products Inc.
Survivors include: one son, J.B. Frederick, Camdenton; one daughter, Barbara Frederick, Camdenton; two sisters, Sheldia Hayes and Lilia Shepard; and two grandchildren.
Private services are planned. Private burial will be in Montreal Cemetery, Montreal.
Arrangements are under the direction of Allee-Reed Funeral Home, Camdenton.
GRAY
Herman A. Gray, 74, Laurie, died June 23, 1999, at Capital Region Medical Center.
Arrangements are incomplete at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.
LAMMERS
Bill J. Lammers, 66, Jefferson City, died June 23, 1999, at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia.
He was born
July 13, 1932, in Jefferson City, a son of Bill and Geneva Baker Lammers. His mother survives in Jefferson City. He was married
Feb. 12, 1955, in Jefferson City, to Dorothy Christian, who died Nov. 16, 1996.
He attended Trinity Lutheran School and Jefferson City public schools. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he worked for the Cole County Public Works Department until his retirement in 1994.
He was a member of VFW 1003 and Local 513 International Union of Operating Engineers AFL-CIO.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Ruth Webb, Yukon, Okla.; one brother, Larry Lammers, Columbia; one sister, Marilyn Woody, Kennewick, Wash.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Houser-Millard Funeral Home. The Rev. Alan Helland will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to the hospice program or Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia.
STEFFEN
Howard Otto Steffen, 83, Chamois, died June 22, 1999, at his home.
He was born
Dec. 11, 1915, in Morrison, a son of William F. and Emma L. Huerner Steffen. He was married
March 31, 1951, in Jefferson City, to Lucille Blackburn, who survives at the home.
A 1934 graduate of Chamois High School,he attended Warrensburg State Teachers College. He taught at Wittenback rural grade school for seven years. An Army veteran of World War II, he worked in Detroit as a shop foreman in an aircraft welding factory for four years. He was a self-employed businessman for 37 years, serving as mayor of Chamois for 32 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 506, Chamois, where he was commander and past commander.
Other survivors include: three sons, Robert Maxwell, Chamois, Dennis Maxwell, Mexico, and David Steffen, Jefferson City; two daughters, Lola Helming, Jefferson City, and Bonnie Hackmann, Linn; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John United Church of Christ. The Rev. Don Deeker will officiate. Burial will be in Chamois City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Meyer-Hilke-Millard Funeral Home, Chamois.
