BOHANNON
Carl Eugene Bohannon, 88, Jefferson City, died March 19, 2003, at Villa Marie Nursing Facility.
He was born July 27, 1914, in Hardin, a son of Lewis S. and Mary Burgess Bohannon. He was married Dec. 28, 1946, in Cedar City, to Ola Green, who died April 13, 1997. He was married July 28, 1999, in Linn, to Geneva Lee LeCure, who survives at the home.
A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, he was an Army veteran of World War II.
He worked as a construction worker and for Jefferson City High School as a custodian, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Susie Sisk, Holts Summit; two stepsons, John Fowler, state of Texas , and Norman Fowler, Wainwright; three stepdaughters, Virginia Fowler and Juanita Ousley, both of Jefferson City, and Roberta Douglas, St. Martins; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 25 step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Freeman Mortuary. The Rev. Charles Crum will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Boone County.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today.
Memorials are suggested to the Carl Bohannon Memorial Fund.
SPECKHALS
Theresa B. Speckhals, 94, Westphalia, died March 21, 2003, at St. Marys Health Center.
She was born Oct. 25, 1908, in Teal, a daughter of Paul and Clara Evers Groner. She was married Nov. 29, 1941, in Berger, to Herbert Speckhals, who preceded her in death.
A former New Haven resident, she was an elementary school teacher.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Assumption Church, New Haven. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Berger.
Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Westphalia, with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home, New Haven.
ROBINSON
Bessie Jane Robinson, 69, Fulton, died March 13, 2003, at Fulton Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born June 19, 1933, in Santa Fe, a daughter of Benjamin and Rose Etta Hutchens Lue. She was married in 1958 to Thomas Wesley Robinson Sr.
She worked for Fulton Country Club and a number of restaurants in Fulton and Mexico before retiring.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Fulton.
Survivors include: two sons, Thomas W. Robinson Jr., San Diego, and Randy D. Robinson, Columbia; one daughter, Elaine "Erie" Saverson, Columbia; one brother, James Jr. Cheatum, Mexico; five stepchildren; and eight grandchildren.
One son, Robert W. Robinson, and one stepson, Wesley Robinson, preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. C.W. Dawson Jr. and the Rev. Ray Warren Calwell will officiate. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
TUCKER
Services were March 14 for Wanda J. Tucker, 57, Jefferson City, who died March 12, 2003, in Salem.
She was born May 2, 1945, in San Francisco, a daughter of George M. and Delilah Mae Sibole Swiney. She was married to Darrell Tucker, who survives in Salem.
She moved to Jefferson City in 1986 and worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation for 17 years. She was a member of American Legion Post 99, Salem.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Tracy Bergen and Tonya Tucker, both of Salem; one brother, Butch Davis, Wentzville; one sister, Willie Rae Dearing, St. Louis; and two grandchildren.
One daughter, Terry Lynn Tucker, preceded her in death.
Services were in Bunker Tabernacle. Chad Wisdom officiated. Burial was in Swiney Cemetery, near Bunker.
Arrangements were under the direction of James and Gahr Mortuary, Salem.
WORTMAN
Donald Ray "Don" Wortman, 67, Belle, died March 18, 2003, at his home.
He was born Oct. 25, 1935, near Hawk Point, a son of Julius R. and Myrtle Marie Wulff Wortman. He was married June 6, 1958, in Rockford, Ill., to Kay Babb, who survives at the home.
He was a graduate of Lincoln Christian College, Lincoln, Ill. He served as a minister for 45 years in Illinois and Missouri for the Christian Churches/Churches of Christ. His ministries include Mt. Vernon, Ill., Mexico, Salem, and Belle, where he served for more than 20 years.
Survivors include: two sons, Seth R. Wortman, Warrensburg, and Shannon L. Wortman, Linn; two daughters, Cathy C. Simpson, Salem, and Lori A. Tackett, Belle; two brothers, Norman Wortman, Troy, and Al Wortman, Vandalia; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church. Jim Cook, Bruce Elmore and Ken Patterson will officiate.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church, Belle.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sassmann Funeral Service.
CUNNINGHAM
Clyde Roy Cunningham, 88, Sonora, Calif., died March 8, 2003.
He was born Aug. 7, 1914, near Sheldon, a son of Roy and Eulalia Phipps Cunningham. He was married in Kansas City to Marialice Singleton, who survives.
He graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1953 with a doctorate in agricultural economics. He retired professor emeritus in 1973 after 28 years with the University of Missouri and several years with the University of Michigan. He was a county extension agent and started two ice manufacturing and cold storage businesses.
He served several terms as an elected city councilman and mayor pro-tem in Columbia. After retirement he worked at the state legislature as a spokesman for the Missouri Retail Grocers Association. He later served as a marketing and food distribution consultant to several grocery chains throughout the Midwest. He moved to Rancho Bernardo, Calif., and lived there for 20 years before moving to Sonora.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of various teaching and agricultural organizations. He was past president of the Rancho Bernardo Seven Oaks Woodworking Club and was awarded lifetime membership in the Rancho Bernardo Rotary Club after more than 50 years of service.
Other survivors include: two sons, Hal Cunningham, Sonora, and Kim Cunningham, Oklahoma City; one brother, George Cunningham, Jefferson City; one sister, Jocie Kircher, Greencastle, Ind.; two grandsons and five great-grandchildren.
Private services will be at a later date at Community Christian Church Columbarium, Jefferson City.
Arrangements are under the direction of Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, Sonora.
SHIPMAN
Eldon Ernest Shipman, 77, Fulton, died March 20, 2003, at his home.
He was born Sept. 22, 1925, in Carthage, a son of Ernest O. and Ivy Lee Stewart Shipman. He was married June 6, 1947, in Fulton, to Anna Jean Kidwell, who survives at the home.
He graduated in 1943 from Fulton High School. He graduated from Westminster in 1950 and received his master's degree from Gallaudet College in 1952. He also received a master's degree from Mississippi College and a master's degree from California State University. He taught as the West Virginia School for the Deaf and was later the principal. He was also principal at Mississippi School for the Deaf.
In 1973 he returned to Fulton and was principal of the vocational department and later supervisor of the high school and vocational department at the Missouri School for the Deaf. He was supervisor of the junior high school. He retired in 1989 and was given with the Truman L. Ingle award. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he interpreted services for the deaf and taught Sunday school. He belonged to various organizations pertaining to deaf education. He was a member of the Lions International, serving as district governor. He was a member of the Mason's Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Other survivors include: one daughter, Sandra Lucille Hudgens, Fulton; and two grandchildren.
One daughter, Mary Lee Shipman, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Stephen Sowder will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday.
