Smith, Delmer R.
Delmer Smith, 66, of Water Valley, died Friday, November 8, 2002, at Yalobusha County General Hospital of lung cancer.

Services were held Sunday, November 10, at 2:30 p.m. at Sylva Rena Baptist Church in Water Valley. Burial was in Oakland cemetery. Seven Oaks Funeral Home, Inc. had charge of arrangements.

Smith was retired from the military, and a member of Mason, Shriner and Sylva Rena Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Teruko Smith of Water Valley; five sisters, Ilene Dees of Enid, Jean Johnson and Pearl Boyles, both of Water Valley, Chris Brown of Toledo, Ohio, and Mary Bunch of Horn Lake; three brothers Lester Smith, Jr. and James Smith, both of Water Valley, and Wilson Smith of Horn Lake.

Smith, Evander Franklin
Evander Franklin Smith, 86, of Como, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Northwest Mississippi Medical Center in Clarksdale of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 27, at 10 a.m. at Longtown Methodist Church. Rev. David Watson and Rev. Jerry Salley officiated the service. Burial was in Longtown cemetery. Moore Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Smith, son of the late Albert and Ellen Johnson Smith, was born icon April 11, 1916, in Lafayette County. He was a farmer and a member of Longtown Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Urna Wright Smith of Como; a daughter, Dr. Andrea Smith of Clarksdale; and a grandson, Franklin Landry of Clarksdale.

Smith, James C.
James C. Smith, 80, of Sardis, died Thursday, August 22, 2002, at his home of heart failure.

Graveside services were held Saturday, August 24, at 1 p.m. at Rose Hill cemetery in Sardis. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Smith was born icon February 10, 1922, in Arkansas. He was a retired pipe fitter for Tennessee Valley Authority. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Jean Smith of Sardis; three step-sons, Michael Andrew Sanders of Memphis, Tennessee, Thomas Wayne Sanders of Hernando, and Johnny Vernon Sanders of South Bend, Indiana; a sister, Beula Anders of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and eight step-grandchildren.

Smith, James V.
James Smith, 89, of Millington, Tenn., died Friday, October 25, 2002, at Methodist North of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 28, at 11 a.m. at Northridge/Woodhaven Funeral Home in Millington. Rev. George Golden officiated the services. Burial was in NR/WH cemetery. Northridge/Woodhaven Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice Smith; five daughters, Judy Holcomb, Jean Bell both of Batesville, Ann Huggins of Covington, Tenn., Betty Tucker of Millington, and Pamela Tichenor of League City, Texas; four sons, Billy Smith of Rogers, Ark., Mickey Smith of Jacksonville, Fla., Jimmy Smith and James Smith, Jr., both of Millington; 24 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great, great-grandchild.

Smith, Janice Griffis
Janice Griffis Smith, 35, of Pope, died Monday, August 5, 2002, at her home of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 7, at 10 a.m. at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Pope. Rev. Al Mullan and Rev. Ron Long officiated the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Smith, daughter of Martha Wesley Griffis of Pope and the late Edward Lee Griffis, was born icon August 11, 1966, in Batesville. She was a registered nurse for Tri-Lakes Medical Center and a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors, other than her mother, include her husband, Danny L. Smith of Pope; two sons, Andrew Lee Smith and Allan Patrick Smith, both of Pope; a sister, Jeanette Griffis of Hernando; a brother, Jeffrey Lee Griffis of Coldwater; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Smith, Roosevelt
Roosevelt Smith, 46, of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Sardis, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, in Memphis of cancer.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 27, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Sardis. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Smith, son of the late John Smith and Ida Mae Jones, was born icon September 18, 1955, in Panola County. He attended North Panola High School and was a mechanic operator.

Survivors include two daughters, Joe Ann Coley and Shirley Jean Smith, both of Sardis; five sons, Tracy Smith, Roosevelt Smith, Desbitt Smith, James Smith and Terry Smith, all of Sardis; three sisters, Katherine Johnson and Ruthie Smith, both of Memphis, and Lucy Smith of Sardis; and 17 grandchildren.

Smith, Roy Jefferson
Roy Jefferson Smith, 59, of Courtland, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital - East in Memphis, Tennessee, of cancer.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 12, at 2 p.m. at Dickins Chapel. Rev. E. K. Gordon officiated the service. Burial was in Bethel cemetery in Enid. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Smith, son of the late Samuel Cecil and Betty Mae Alberta Smith, was born icon December 2, 1942, in Batesville. He was a truck driver. He was preceded in death by a son, the late Troy Lynn Smith, a daughter, the late Margaret Ann Tutor, and a brother, the late Jerry Dan Smith.

Survivors include a daughter, Ida Winters of Batesville; a son, Micheal Smith of Courtland; six sisters, Alice Winters and Betty Smith, both of Noxapater, Etta Daughtery, Mary Redwine and Virginia Tutor, all of Batesville, and Connie Randall of Pope; two brothers, Cecil Ray Smith of Courtland and Darryl Smith of Batesville; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Smith, Vada Nelson Dubois
Vada Nelson Dubois Smith, 87, of Pope, died Tuesday, August 6, 2002, in Southaven of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Thursday, August 8, at 2 p.m. at Dickins Chapel. Rev. Don Gregory and Rev. Charles Hardy, Jr. officiated the service. Burial was in Chapel Hill in Pope. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Smith, daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Ester File Nelson, was born icon December 24, 1914, in Pope. She was retired from the Batesville Hosiery Mill and a member of Chapel Hill Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, B.D. Dubois of Oakland and Ken Smith of Memphis, Tennessee; a daughter, Frances Hardy of Southaven; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a great, great-grandchild.

Snyder, Dottie Herring
Dottie Herring Snyder, 68, of Batesville, died Sunday, February 10, 2002, at Beverly Health Care in West Memphis, Arkansas, of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 14, at 2 PM at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Liberty Hill cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Walter R. Snyder of West Memphis, Arkansas; a daughter, Angelia D. Sebree of Wilmington, North Carolina; a son, Walter Roy Snyder of Wilmington; two step-daughters, Betty Bennett of Nesbit and Barbara Johnson of Bartlett, Tennessee; two step-sons, Walter D. Snyder of Horn Lake and L. D. Snyder of Edgefield, South Carolina; five sisters, Nina Watts and Mary Faulkner, both of Kosciusko, Marjorie Stroud of Double Springs, Alabama, Faye Russell of Grenada, and her twin sister, Nell Desmond of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; a brother, Robert Stanley Herring of McCool, and one grandson.

Snyder, Hattie Corinne
Hattie Corinne Snyder, 90, of Sardis, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of pancreatitis.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 26, at 2 p.m. at Dickins Chapel. Rev. Jerry Sanford officiated the service. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Snyder, daughter of the late Jessie Arvin and Etna Florance Eubanks Marbery, was born icon December 2, 1911, in Panola County. She was a retired factory worker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Sardis.

Survivors include a son, Charles Snyder of Sardis; two daughters, Christine Barnes of Lonoke, Arkansas, and Margaret Tidwell of Richland; seven grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Socha, Virginia Anne
Virginia Anne Socha, 84, of Memphis, Tenn., died Tuesday, Dec. 17, at her daughter's home in Memphis of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church in Columbus. Father Jerry Hurley will officiate the service. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until service time at Annunciation Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Friendship cemetery in Columbus. Wells Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Socha, daughter of the late Frank and Anna Peal Jurczyk, was born icon March 6, 1918 in Pittsfield, Md. She was the widow of Zygmunt "Ziggy" John Socha and a homemaker. She was also a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church and a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Columbus.

Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Socha Candebat of Cordova, Tenn. and Donna Socha Wolford of Memphis; one sister, Helen Jurczyk of Pittsfield; two brothers, Deward Jurczyk and Joe Jurczyk, both of Pittsfield; and two step-grandsons.

Starr, Josie Huff "Tiny"
Josie Huff Starr, of Batesville, died Monday, Nov. 18 at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart failure.

Graveside services was Nov. 21, 2 p.m. at Marks cemetery. Internment was at Marks cemetery. Rev. Ricky Haynes will officiate services. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Josie, widow of F. R. "Ned" Starr, daughter of William Prince and Edna Roach Huff, was born icon Dec. 18, of Carrollton. She was homemaker and a member of Sledge United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her son, Raynor Starr; 3 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Statham, Gaylen Wayne
Gaylen Wayne Statham, 56, of Sardis, died Friday, September 27, 2002, at his home of heart failure.

No funeral services were held. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Statham, son of Martha Yvonne Statham Glossup of Cold Springs, Texas and the late Dan M. Statham, was born icon August 5, 1946, in Austin, Texas. He was disabled.

Survivors, other than his mother, include his wife, Jackie Williamson Statham of Sardis; a daughter, Louise Clark Statham of Texas; a son, Danny Statham of Texas; and a step-daughter, Terri Smith of Sardis.
