Toliver, Michael Henderson
Michael Henderson "Mike" Toliver, 61, of Batesville, died Monday, October 7, 2002, at his home of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 9, at 2 p.m. at Crowder Baptist Church. Rev. Ben James officiated the service. Burial was in Crowder cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Toliver, son of the late Allen Henderson "Foots" and Grace Burks Toliver, was born icon July 6, 1941, in Lambert. He was a farmer, welder and a member of Crowder Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Toliver of Batesville; two sons, Ronnie Toliver of Crowder and David Toliver of St. Louis, Missouri; a sister, Betty Jo Brower of Batesville; two brothers, Dennis Toliver of Byhalia and Jerone Toliver of Batesville; and two grandchildren, Hunter Toliver of Batesville and Allie Toliver of St. Louis.

Memorials may be made to Crowder Baptist Church, P.O. Box 156, Crowder, Miss. 38622.

Truelock, Leonard "Slim"
Leonard Truelock, 70, of Batesville, died Saturday, November 9, 2002, at his home of heart failure.

Services were held Monday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Sardis Lake Baptist Church cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Truelock, son of the late Lee Roy and Joe Lee Goss Truelock, was born icon March 7, 1932, in Muleshoe, Texas. He was retired from cotton ginning and a member of the Sardis Lake Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice Nelson Truelock of Sardis; three daughters, Betty Lou Truelock Hollis of Charleston, Mary Jo Truelock Liphand of Williford, Texas, and Robbie Ann Truelock Troutman of Dallas, Texas; five sons, Ricky Truelock of Odessa, Texas, Larry Truelock of Semino, Okla., Richard Truelock of Tupelo, Dale Truelock of Baltimore, Mary., and Lynn Truelock, Jr. of Tupelo; four step-daughters, Dianne Holley Baer of Batesville, Betty Holley Norwood of Walls, Penny Holley of Byhalia, and Faye Holley Traywick of Coldwater; one stepson, Butch Holley of Olive Branch; one brother, Quinton Truelock Carterville, Ga; three sisters, Loreta Gregory, Marie Goforth and Savannah Killough, all of Earth, Texas; 36 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Trussell, Marle Myrtle Marter
Marle Myrtle Marter Trussell, 83, of Batesville, died Sunday, Nov. 17 at her home of heart failure.

Services were Nov. 20, 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Internment was at Forrest Memorial Park. Rev. Robert Self will officiate services. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Trussell, daughter of W. T. and Lonnie McCain Marter, was born icon May 24, 1919, of Grenada. She was a retired registered nurse.

Survivors include her husband, James E. Trussell of Batesville; two sons, Jim Trussell of Mobile, AL, and Bill Trussell of Richardson, TX; brother, Grady Marter of Duck Hill; 4 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Turner, Hurshel Thompson
Hurshel Thompson Turner, 82, of Enid, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Tallahatchie General Hospital of a heart attack.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 23, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Holiness Church in Enid.

Burial was in Bethel cemetery. Newsom Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Turner was born icon June 20, 1920. He was a retired logger.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Winters Turner of Enid; four daughters, Janice Bratton of Tillatoba, Helen Presley and Dorothy Darby, both of Enid, and Sue Winter of Borger, Texas; two sons, Terry Turner and Dennis Turner, both of Enid; a brother, Rev. Walter Turner of Batesville; 24 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Valentine, Elaine
Elaine Valentine, 45, of Batesville, died Saturday, August 24, 2002, at her home of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 28, at 2 p.m. at West Camp M.B. Church. Rev. Melvin Jones officiated the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. Cooley's Mortuary, Inc. had charge of arrangements.

Valentine, daughter of the late Robert Lee Birch and Annie Mae Valentine, was born icon December 30, 1956, in Batesville. She was an engineer technician for Parker Hannifin and a member of West Camp M.B. Church.

Survivors include two daughters, LaToya Valentine of Batesville and Yaminah Smallie of Courtland; two sisters, Betty Ree Sanford of Pope and Sophia Birch of Coffeeville; and four grandchildren.

Van Hoozer, John Ellis
John Ellis Van Hoozer, 55, of Sledge, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, in Dallas, Texas, of a heart attack.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Rev. John Parker officiated the service. Burial was in Longtown cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Van Hoozer, son of Barbara E. Jones Van Hoozer of Marks and the late Ernest Van Hoozer, was born icon November 28, 1946, in Grenada. He was a truck driver for Tennessee Trucking and a member of Tutwiler Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors, other than his mother, include his wife, Becky O'Neal Van Hoozer of Sledge; a son, John Ellis Van Hoozer, Jr. of Sledge; two daughters, Beth Van Hoozer of Merced, California, and Amy Rebecca Van Hoozer Butler of Faulkner; two brothers, Eston Van Hoozer of Oakland, Tennessee, and George Van Hoozer of Boise, Idaho; three sisters, Judy McCollum of Shannon, Eva Grace Parham of Magee and Shannon Francis of Clarksdale; and three grandchildren.

Vaughan, Linda McGee
Linda McGee Vaughan, 63, of Batesville, died Thursday, September 12, 2002, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 14, at 11 a.m. at North Batesville Baptist Church. Rev. Charles Keel officiated the service. Burial was in Batesville Magnolia cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Vaughan, daughter of the late Stanley and Virginia Williford McGee, was born icon May 17, 1939, in Pope. She was a housewife and a member of North Batesville Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Vaughan of Batesville; two sons, Ernie Vaughan and Monty Vaughan, both of Batesville; a daughter, Joy Vaughan Ragon of Batesville; two brothers, Billy McGee of Pope and Sammy McGee of Coldwater; a sister, Sissy Hunter of Clarksdale; and six grandchildren.

Vickery, Katherina Scheuerer
Katherina "Katie" Scheuerer Vickery, 87, of Ridgeland, formerly of Sardis, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 23, at 10:30 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Longtown cemetery in Crenshaw. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Vickery came to Panola County at the end of World War II as a young German war bride. She was the widow of the late Everett Shannon Vickery. They were managers of the Como Stuckeys for a number of years, and also managed several other Stuckeys' stores prior to retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sardis. She was a former resident of Graceland Personal Health Care of Grenada and a longtime resident of Sardis.

Survivors include two sons, Everett Vickery of Franklin, Tennessee, and Jimmy Vickery of Clinton; and three grandchildren, Vicki Vickery of Ridgeland, John David Vickery of Dallas, Texas, and Teresa Vickery Prinzo of Columbia, Tennessee.

Walker, Garland Wray
Garland Wray Walker, 71, of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Courtland, died Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at Methodist Hospital North in Memphis of heart failure.

Graveside services were held Saturday, September 21, at 11 a.m. at Batesville Magnolia cemetery. Rev. Charles Locke officiated the service. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Walker, son of the late Melbourne Drew and Ruth Roache Walker, was born icon February 23, 1931, in Courtland. He was a bookkeeper and a member of Courtland Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by a daughter, the late Pam Walker, a brother, the late Melbourne Lee Walker, and three sisters, the late Shirley Walker Gottlieb, the late Mary Walker Norsworthy, and the late Ann Walker Reeves.

Survivors include his wife, Joann Johnson Walker of Gore Springs; a daughter, Donna Walker Smith of Horn Lake; four brothers, William C. "Bill" Walker of Columbus, James Wilbourne Walker of Plaquemine, Louisiana, and Merritt Hunt Walker of Courtland; and four grandchildren.

Walker, John H.
John Haney Walker, 70, of Harrisburg, Arkansas, formerly of Crowder, died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 10, at 2 p.m. at Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Rev. Kenneth Doke officiated the service. Burial was in Jonesboro Memorial Park cemetery.

Walker was born icon April 22, 1932, in Iuka. He was a retired employee of the Hytrol Conveyor Co. in Jonesboro and a door greeter at Wal-Mart in Trumann, Arkansas. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and attended the First Assembly of God in Trumann. He was the widower of the late Daisy Morgan Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and a sister.

Survivors include a son, John W. Walker of Jonesboro; two daughters, Nancy Golden and Robin Creekmore, both of Harrisburg, Arkansas; three sisters, Joy Walker Smith of Harrisburg, Florine Walker and Ollie Walker Haney, both of Crowder; six brothers, Alvie Walker of Ukiah, California, Chester Walker and Levi Walker, both of Resaca, Georgia, G. W. Walker of Clarksdale, Clifford Walker of Malvern, Arkansas and Audie Ray Walker of Crowder; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Ward, Annie Mae
Annie Mae Ward, 94, of Batesville, died Friday, August 2, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Batesville of heart failure.

Graveside services were held Sunday, August 4, at 3 p.m. at Itta Bena cemetery. Rev. Charles Locke officiated the service. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Ward, daughter of the late James Maybry and Abby Lillian Howell Locke, was born icon March 17, 1908, in Itta Bena. She was a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church in Itta Bena. She was the widow of the late M. K. Ward.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Ward Stevens of Batesville and Bettie Mae Ward Montgomery of Sunflower; a son, Jack K. Ward of Boyle; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 18 great, great-grandchildren.

Ward, John E.
John E. Ward, 64, of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Como, died Tuesday, August 20, 2002, at his home of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 25, at 1 p.m. at Braham Chapel C.M.E. Church in Como. Burial was in the church cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Ward was employed at a ceramics pottery factory. He was a member of Braham Chapel C.M.E. Church.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Hightower Ward of Como; three daughters, Bernadine W. Jackson of Cordova, Tennessee, Pearlie M. DePriest and Patricia Hathaway, both of Memphis; five sisters, Elizabeth Sanders, Martha Henderson, and Cordelia Ward, all of Sardis, Morsie Wright of Memphis, and Mattie Watson of Jackson; four brothers, James Ward and Isaac Ward, both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Clyde Ward of Kansas City, Kansas, and Ricky Ward of Sardis; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
