Curtis Emmett Darby, 92, of Charleston, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Services were Saturday at Willow Springs Assembly of God Church in Enid. Burial was at Bethel cemetery in Enid. Rev. Tommy Darby officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Darby, born icon Jan. 16, 1911, to the late Will and the late Nancy Lockley Darby, was a farmer and member of Willow Springs Assembly of God Church. He was also a veteran of WWII.

Survivors include his wife Annie Farris Darby of Charleston; two sons, Raymond Darby of Enid and James Alexander of Memphis; one daughter Geneva Darby of Jackson; one brother A.B. Darby of Batesville; one sister Mildred Franks of Pope; 23 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

Darby was preceded in death by his first wife Ethel Darby; and five sons, Bob, C.J., Daymond, W.T. and Eugene Darby.

Darby, Jerry Lane Sr.
Jerry Lane Darby Sr., 59, of Osceola, Ark., died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at Osceola Nursing Home in Osceola

Services were Friday at Wilson Funeral Home in Osceola. Burial was at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, Ark. Bro. J.E. Elliot officiated. Wilson Funeral Home had charge.

Darby, born icon Jan. 19, 1945, to the late William and the late Idell Lockley Darby, was a retired truck driver and a member of the Church of God Faith.

Survivors include his wife Marie Darby of Osceola; four sons, Jerry Darby Jr. of West Memphis, Ark., Patrick Darby of Marion, Wayne Darby of Des Moines, Iowa and Thomas William Darby of Pa.; two daughters, Karen Simmerson of Marion and Sharon Darby of West Memphis; one brother Willie David Darby of West Memphis; three sisters, Lillie Mae Daniels and Marty Anglin, both of Bryant, Ark. and Louise Thomas of Proctor, Ark; and 13 grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Idell Lockley Darby; two brothers, Edward Darby and Billy Joe Darby; and three grandchildren.

Davis, Beverly Baker
Beverly Baker Davis, 65, of Sardis, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at her home.

Services were Friday at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Como. Burial was at Rose Hill cemetery in Sardis. Rev. Sam Godfrey officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Davis, born icon June 24, 1938, to the late Walter and the late Veda Cole Baker, was raised by her sister, the late Clara Mae Shepard. She was a homemaker, a horse lover and a member of Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Como.

Survivors include her husband Jack C. Davis of Sardis; one daughter Cynde Ray of Jackson; one son Steven Davis of Sardis; two brothers, John Baker of Mountain Home, Ark. and Lionel Baker of Huntsville, Ark.; and three grandchildren.

Davis was preceded in death by one daughter Julia Katherine Davis.

Davis, Miles Jr.
Sardis, MS - Miles Davis Jr., 65, of Sardis, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville.

Services were Friday at Pleasant Green M.B. Church in Sardis. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. W.O. McKinney officiated. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.

Davis, born icon Jan. 28, 1939, to the late Miles Davis Sr. and late Mosley Lee Johnson, was a construction worker and a member of Pleasant Green M.B. Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Clara Davis and Lisa Davis, both of Memphis; two sons, Christopher Davis and Tavorious Davis, both of Memphis; two brothers, Robert Davis of Como and Floyd Davis of Nashville; two sisters, Donna Davis of Memphis and Be Davis of St. Louis; and 19 grandchildren.

Davis, Wesley Chester
Courtland, MS - Wesley Chester Davis, 63, of Courtland, died Thursday, April 22, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville.

Services were Saturday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Rev. Tim Ellis officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Davis, born icon May 14, 1940, to the late Chester William and the late Lucy Yvonne Flint Davis, was a business owner and carpet installer.

Survivors include his wife Lorraine Beavers Davis of Courtland; one son Archie Davis of Southaven; two daughters, Rene Hubbard and Angela "Charlie" Sanders, both of Courtland; two brothers, John Wayne Davis and Don Juan Davis, both of Grenada; one sister Cherie Gayle Ashford of Water Valley; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Deaton, Vebra Cecil
Pope - Vebra Cecil Deaton, 89, of Pope, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at his residence of heart failure.

Services were Sunday at Pope Baptist Church. Burial was in Chapel Hill cemetery in Pope. Wells Funeral Home in Batesville had charge.

Deaton, born icon July 22, 1914, to the late Ebb W. and Bettie Hentz Deaton, was a retired E.K.G. Technician at V.A. Hospital in Memphis and U.S. Army Veteran of WW II. He was also a member of Pope Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter Iris Deaton Stuart of Morton; one son Tommy Deaton of Pope; one sister Margie Deaton Teems of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one brother Ebb Deaton of Memphis; and four grandchildren.

Demalignon, E. Brooke
E. Brooke Demalignon, 84, of Batesville, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at his residence.

Memorial services are today at First Baptist Church in Batesville at 3:30 p.m. Dr. Jere Phillips will officiate. Burial will be at West Lawn cemetery in Omaha, Neb. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Demalignon, born icon Dec. 17, 1919, to the late Robert and the late Emily Rossiter Demalignon, was a retired engineer for Millard Public School System and a member of First Baptist Church in Batesville.

Survivors include his wife Pat Bray Demalignon of Batesville; one daughter Judy Spencer of Batesville; one son Larry B. Demalignon of Batesville; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

All memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Batesville or Benson Baptist Church in Omaha, Neb.

Denza, John Genarro
Marks, MS - John Genarro Denza, 84, of Marks, died Sunday, April 18, 2004, at Quitman County Hospital in Marks of heart failure.

Services were Tuesday at Kimbro Funeral Home Chapel in Marks. Burial was in Lambert cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.

Denza, born icon Dec. 12, 1919, was a retired car salesman. He served in the US Army in WWII and was a Catholic.

Survivors include three daughters, Nikki Whitworth of Lambert, Lisa Marie Baldwin of Texas and Marinda Levaun of Gulfport; two sons, John Genarro Denza Jr. and Michael Leon Denza, both of Gulfport; one sister Fannie Yamonica of Waterbury, Conn.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Dickens, Willie Earl
Willie Earl Dickens, 61, of Oxford, died Friday, September 10, 2004, at her residence.

Dickens, born icon April 13, 1943, to the late Willie Edward Dickens and the late Inez Gray Dickens Robinson, was a general laborer and a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church.

Services were Thursday at Bluff Springs M.B. Church in Sardis. Burial was at Bluff Springs cemetery. Rev. L.C. Smith officiated. Cooley's Mortuary had charge.

Survivors include three daughters, Lisa Dickens Coleman of Courtland, Toni Dickens Blunt of Vicksburg and Arion Dickens Tate of San Diego, Calif.; three brothers, Henry Thompson of Batesville, Leon Thompson of Oxford and Bobby Dickens of Marshall, Mo.; six sisters, Sherry Dickens Hall of Courtland, Carnell Denise Dickens Jones, Margie Faye Dickens, Linda Robinson and Mary Ann Dickens, all of St. Louis, Mo. and Beatrice Farr of Memphis, Tenn. and 15 grandchildren.

Douglas, Gylil LaShaun
Batesville, MS - Gylil LaShaun Douglas, of Batesville, infant, died April 23, 2004 at The Med in Memphis.

Graveside services were Friday at Macedonia cemetery. Hodges Funeral Home of Batesville had charge.

Survivors include parents NeShedra Morris of Batesville and Gary Douglas of Sardis; grandparents and great-grandparents.

Drake, Ella Quay
Batesville, MS - Ella Quay Drake, 84, of Batesville, died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville.

Services were Monday at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was in Batesville-Magnolia cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Drake, born icon April 20, 1920, to the late Thomas C. Dulin and late Louella Robertson, was a housewife and a member of First Baptist Church in Batesville.

Survivors include two daughters, Candace Belk and Sandra Milam, both of Batesville; two sisters, Fae Tweatt of Birmingham, Ala. and Marlene Black of Aberdeen; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband J.D. Drake. All memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 104 Panola Ave., Batesville, MS 38606 or Batesville-Magnolia cemetery, P.O. Box 302, Batesville, MS 38606.

Dunn, John Mikell
Water Valley, Miss. - John Mikell Dunn, 20, of Water Valley, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Services were Tuesday at Latham Funeral Home in Water Valley. Burial was in Pine Crest Memorial Gardens in Water Valley. Rev. Franklin Dunn officiated. Latham Funeral Home had charge.

Dunn was an automobile parts salesman.

Survivors include his fiancee' Wendy Johnson of Batesville; two sisters, Gena Dunn and Lisa Dunn, both of Water Valley; one brother Benson Dunn of Water Valley; father Gene Dunn and his wife Loretta Dunn; and mother Faye Holloway Dunn.
