Cecil W. Burford, Jr.
Cecil W. Burford, Jr., 79, passed away on January 15, 2015 in Madison, Mississippi.
He was born
on January 19, 1935 in Memphis, Tennessee to Cecil W. Burford, Sr. and Josephine Saunders Burford. Growing up in Helena, Arkansas and then Como, Mississippi he attended Como Mississippi Public School through his junior year and then attended Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tennessee his senior year.
He attended The University of Mississippi on a four-year baseball athletic scholarship as a pitcher. In 1956 he pitched a no-hit no-run game against Vanderbilt and in the 1956 College World Series he pitched and won one game and lost one game, the first ever for the University of Mississippi baseball team. In the 1956 College World Series the team placed 3rd, the highest ranking of any University of Mississippi baseball team to-date. In college he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity, Committee of 100 and the M-Club. In 2007 he was inducted into the M-Club Athletic Hall of Fame.
After graduating from The University of Mississippi he played professional baseball with the Milwaukee Braves minor league for three years when an arm injury ended his baseball career. He won the last game he played in with a one-hitter.
He married
Nancy Elizabeth Rowsey of Courtland, Mississippi in 1961. He was predeceased by a son in 1969. He is survived by his wife, their two sons Cecil W. Burford, III, of Atlanta, Georgia and Christopher H. Burford, (Bronwyn Caves Burford) and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Faulkner Burford and Catherine Holmes Burford, all of Madison, Mississippi. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Marilyn Rowsey Canada and husband Frank Canada of Hernando, Mississippi and nephews Dr. Brad Canada and Jason Canada of Memphis, Tennessee.
He was employed by Entergy Corporation (Mississippi Power & Light Company) for 34 years, past President of the Senatobia Rotary Club and had been active in the Coldwater First Baptist Church in Coldwater, Mississippi prior to moving to Madison, Mississippi.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 18, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Batesville. Graveside service and interment followed at Magnolia cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of your choice in his honor.
George Edward Crockett
George Edward Crockett, 66, of Senatobia, Miss., passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a former sales representative for Tucker Manufacturing in Batesville, a member of Senatobia Church of Christ and a longtime member of the Senatobia Historical Society.
Mr. Crockett is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Marilyn Dean Crockett of Senatobia one daughter, MacKenzie Crockett McGehee (Neil) of Memphis, Tenn.; one son, Andy Crockett of Senatobia; and one brother, Melvin Crockett of Como.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elaine Carter Crockett and James Floyd Crockett.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 22, at Tyro cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions may be made toward final expenses.
James Johnson
James Johnson, 66, of Memphis, Tenn., passed away on January 14, 2015 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Memphis.
Services were held Saturday, January 24, at 2:00 p.m. at Hammond Hill M.B. Church in Senatobia. Burial followed in Mt. Moriah Church cemetery in Como.
He is survived by his daughter, Shamone Johnson of Horn Lake; sons, Cedric Johnson and Kedrick Johnson both of Como; two sisters; and five brothers.

Don Allen Lentz
Don Allen Lentz, 47, of Arkabutla, Miss., passed away January 17, 2015 at his residence.
He is survived by his sisters, Mary Jane Lentz of Coldwater, Lela Pollan of Brandon, Hazel Crockett, Phyllis Twilley and Lisa Dunnagan all of Senatobia, and brothers, William Lentz, James Lentz, Charles Lentz, Johnny Lentz all of Coldwater, Mitchell Lentz and Mark Lentz both of Southaven.
He was a member of Arkabutla Baptist Church.
Services were held Tuesday, January 20, at 2:00 p.m. at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial followed in Surrette cemetery.
Curtis Sharp
Curtis Sharp, 63, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Coldwater, passed away on January 16, 2015. Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 25 at 3 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church in Coldwater.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie Sharp; three daughters, Lucille Sharp of Far Rockaway, N.Y., Lisa Sharp of Far Rockaway, N.Y. and Jydiah Sharp of Memphis, Tenn.; one sister, Annie Lou Williams of Memphis, Tenn.; and seven grandchildren.

Golden Williams, Jr.
Golden Williams, Jr., 80, of Ypsilanti, Mich., formerly of Sardis, passed away on January 14, 2015. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 24, at 12 noon at Paradise Baptist Church in Senatobia.
He is survived by two daughters, Marlo Williams of Louisville, Ky. and Regina Williams of Ypsilanti, Mich.; a son, Perry G. Williams of Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother, Thomas Williams of Memphis, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Eva Marie Daniels
Eva Marie Daniels, 72, of Senatobia, Miss., passed away January 14, 2015 at her residence.
She is survived by her husband, Herman Daniels of Senatobia; sons, Donny Daniels (Cindy) of Coldwater, and Robert Daniels (Suzanne) of Senatobia; brothers, Duane A. Combs of Perry, Ga. and Frank C. Combs of Belleville, Ill.; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tina Daniels Hall.
A memorial service will be held at Bethel Baptist Church at 2206 Bethel Road Coldwater, MS 38618 on Saturday January 24 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Mrs. Daniels to the Secretary of the Northwest Shrine Club, Charles Cates at 190 Daniels Road, Coldwater, MS 38618. Donations in memory of Mrs. Daniels will go to support the Shriner’s Children Hospitals.

Karen Burns Dotson
Karen Burns Dotson, 55, of Pickwick, Tenn., passed away January 13, 2015. Services were held Friday, January 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Pate-Jones Funeral Home in Senatobia. Burial followed in Bethesda cemetery.
She is survived by her mother, Semmie Burns of Senatobia; and brothers, Donny Burns of Batesville, and Bill Burns of Senatobia.
Frank P. Isom
Frank P. Isom, 69, of Southaven, Miss., passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the V.A. Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.
A veteran of the United States Army, he served in the Vietnam War.
He was a member of Solid Rock Assembly of God, a loving father and grandfather and a loyal friend.
Mr. Isom is survived by one daughter, Joyce Debo of Hernando; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; his former wife of 40 years, Amelia Isom of Hernando; and fiancé, Patricia Spiva of Sardis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Hudgins Isom and Robert Isom.
Visitation was held Tuesday, January 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home in Senatobia. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 14, at 11 a.m. at Ray-Nowell Funeral Home Chapel with burial at 1:45 p.m. at West Tennessee Veterans cemetery in Memphis, Tenn.

Dorothy Inez Kelley
Dorothy Inez Kelley, 73, of Senatobia, Miss., passed away January 9, 2015 at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto in Southaven.
She is survived by her son, Danny Gower (Penny) of Henderson, Tenn.; sisters, Louise Sullivan of Greenville, Miss., Brenda Davis (Charles) of Greenville, Miss., and Shelia Jones (Terry) of Senatobia; brother, Richard Weeks (Faye) of Oakland, Miss.; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services were held Sunday, January 11, at 3:00 p.m. at Faith Chapel Holiness in Senatobia. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Charles E. Lee
Charles E. Lee, 73, of Senatobia, Miss., formerly of Mt. Vernon, New York, passed away on January 13, 2015. Funeral services were held at Independent-Tyro MB Church in Senatobia on January 17 at 11:00 a.m. Burial followed in Independent-Tyro Church cemetery.
He is survived by a daughter, Aretha Lee of Pensacola, Fla.; six sons, Kalvin Steward of Aurora, Ill., Charles Lee Jr. of New Rochelle, N.Y., Cartrie Lee of Middletown, N.Y., Terrance Mack of Yonkers, N.Y., Ronnie McNeal of Memphis, Tenn., and Joshua Richardson of Brouke, N.Y.; five sisters, Luvarn Mooring of Dallas, Texas, Verlene Logan of Senatobia, Bertha Chambers of Senatobia, Martha Brass of South LaGrange, Ill., Toni Thornton of Kingsford Heights, Ind.; three brothers, Eddie B. Lee of Memphis, Tenn., Maurice Lee of Memphis, Tenn., and Timothy G. Lee of Buffalo, N.Y.; and 14 grandchildren.

Velma Jean Neely
Velma Jean Neely, 86, of Independence, Miss., passed away January 8, 2015 at Methodist Germantown Hospital.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Williams (Tim) of Independence, and April Ruzicka (Doug) of Springdale, Ark.; son, Mikel Cook (Cathy) of Rio Oso, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be sent to the Mission Fund at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, P.O. Box 155, Independence, MS 38638.
A memorial service was held Friday, January 9, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she was a member.
