Richard Wesley Fant

FLORA -- Richard Wesley Fant, 75, a diesel mechanic, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, of heart failure at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.

Services were held Monday at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson with interment in Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson.

An Alabama native, Mr. Fant lived on Livingston-Vernon Road. He was a member of Baptist Southside Baptist Church.

Survivors include his sons, Randall Fant of Flora, Danny Fant of Byram and Tony Fant of Florence; daughters, Patricia McCausley of Madison and Debbie Creel of Flora; brother, Wilburn Fant of Lafayette, La.; sister, Cherry Alice Plymouth of Ethelville, Ala.; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Ruth Garrity

MADISON -- Mrs. Ruth Garrity, 76, a retired kindergarten teacher, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, of heart failure at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Services were held Tuesday from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Madison with interment in Jessamine cemetery in Ridgeland. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home of Ridgeland handled arrangements.

A Boston, Mass., native, Mrs. Garrity was a graduate of Emmanuel College in Boston and received a master's in education from Wheelock College, also in Boston. She was a retired kindergarten teacher in the Boston area.

A Madison resident for 24 years, Mrs. Garrity was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Madison.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Garrity.

Survivors include her daughters, Pamela Garrity and Candace Ellison, both of Madison, and Jennifer Garrity of Birmingham, Ala.; son, Wayne Garrity of Birmingham, Ala.; and grandson, Hunter Garrity of Birmingham, Ala.

Gracie M. Heath

RIDGELAND -- Gracie M. Heath, 83, a homemaker, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, of cancer at Whispering Pines Hospice in Ridgeland.

Services were held Tuesday at Breeland Funeral Home in Canton with interment in Concord cemetery.

A lifelong resident of Madison County, Mrs. Heath was a member of Concord Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Heath, in 1985.

Survivors include her sons, Donald Heath of Germantown, Tenn., and Charlie Heath of Ridgeland; daughter, Betty Hulsey of Jackson; sister, Louise Williams of Quincy, Ill.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Ministries Inc., P.O. Box 1228, Ridgeland, MS 39158-1228.

Bobby Ross "Bob" Paschall

CANTON -- Bobby Ross "Bob" Paschall, 65, a retired furniture salesman, died Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, of heart failure at his home in Canton.

Services were held Dec. 22 at Breeland Funeral Home Chapel in Canton with interment in Canton cemetery.

A Durham, N.C., native, Mr. Paschall had lived in Jackson before moving to Canton 15 years ago. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson. He had served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne Edgar Paschall of Canton; son, Mike Paschall of Reidsville, N.C.; daughters, Kathy Paschall and Tresca Paschall, both of Durham, N.C.; father, Hubert Paschall of Durham, N.C.; brother, Norman Paschall of Raleigh, N.C.; sisters, Betty Ammons of Red Springs, N.C., Phyllis Wright of Lynchburg, Va., and Gloria Jean Paschall and Teresa Paschall, both of Durham, N.C.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Robbie Lee Browning

MADISON -- Robbie Lee Browning, 89, a homemaker, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, of heart failure at The Homeplace (formerly The Bond Home) in Madison.

Services were held Wednesday at Nowell-Flippin Funeral Home in Ridgeland with interment in Goodhope cemetery in Camden.

A Madison County native, Mrs. Browning was a lifelong resident of Madison. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Jackson, where she attended Sunday School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Brewer Browning.

Survivors include her daughters, Dorothy Palmer of Clinton and Jane Litro of Jackson; three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Highland Baptist Church, Goodhope Baptist Church of Camden or The Homeplace of Madison.

Thomas M. Monday

RIDGELAND -- Thomas M. Monday, 71, president of Madison Material, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, of heart failure at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson.

Services were held Tuesday at Nowell-Flippin Funeral Home Chapel in Ridgeland with interment in Jessamine cemetery in Ridgeland.

A Knoxville, Tenn., native, Mr. Monday had moved to Ridgeland 30 years ago. He was president of Madison Material in Ridgeland. He was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Toni Monday of Ridgeland; daughter, Toma Corum of Knoxville, Tenn.; sister, Ann Shipe of Knoxville, Tenn.; two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.

Gene Leflore Bidwell Sr.

ITTA BENA -- Gene Leflore Bidwell Sr., 79, a former agriculture teacher, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, of heart failure at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

Services were held Friday at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home with interment in Itta Bena cemetery.

A Greenwood native, Mr. Bidwell was a Greenwood High School graduate. He eared bachelor's and master's degrees from Mississippi State College, now Mississippi State University. He also earned a doctorate.

He served in the U.S. Army in India during World War II and was held as a prisoner of war there. He also served in the 139th Treadway Bridge Co. of the U.S. National Guard, stationed in Charleston. He was called to duty in Korea, earning the rank of captain.

After the war, he taught at Horn Lake before moving to Itta Bena. He taught agriculture and later served as a guidance counselor at Leflore County High School until his retirement in 1982.

For many years, he was scoutmaster for Troop 68 in Itta Bena. He was a leader of Future Farmers of America and played the bass fiddle in the Greenwood Community Band. He was also involved in Greenwood Little Theater. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Itta Bena.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Makamson Bidwell of Itta Bena; son, Gene Leflore Bidwell Jr. of Itta Bena; daughter, Ellen Bidwell Dudley of Ridgeland; brother, John Phillip Bidwell of Greenwood; and grandsons, Gene L. Bidwell 3rd of Itta Bena and H. Ross Dudley, Chase B. Dudley and Tye D. Dudley, all of Ridgeland.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Itta Bena, Broadmoor Baptist Church or Madison Central High School Athletics.

Frank Brown, Jr.

Funeral services for Frank “Sonny” Brown Jr. were held on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at Holifield Chapel in Forest, Miss. He died on March 18, 2009, at Lackey Memorial Hospital in Forest, Miss. The Rev. Demetrius Cross officiated and Nell Beamon was the Mistress of Ceremony. Holifield Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by one sister, Christine (Nolen Jr.) Morgan of Lena; three brothers Charles (Carrie Mae) Brown of Forest, Cedric (Phyllis) Brown of Morton and Keith Brown of Torrence, Calif.; an uncle Ivory (Bernice) Brantley; one aunt, Dorothy Campbell, both of Chicago; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Douglas Brown, and two sisters, Sherria Regina Brown Williams Jones and Vickie Diane Brown.

Pallbearers were family and friends.

Honorary Pallbearers were Charles Brown, Willie Williams Jr., Cedric Brown, Adrian Brown, Keith Brown, Daniel Brown, Ron Cooks, Tim Coleman and Charles F. Brown.

Linda Carole Armstrong

Linda Carole Armstrong, 54, of Coldwater, passed away July 10, 2016 at her residence.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Armstrong of Coldwater; daughter, Caitlyn Pevey of Jefferson, Ark.; son, Brett Collins of Southaven; father, Stewart Avret and stepmother, Wanda Avret of Augusta, Ga.; mother, Susan Hobbs of Dandridge, Tenn.; three sisters, Lisa Bodrey of Butler, Ga., Christa Avret and Sherry Catron; and grandchildren, Madyson, Faelyn, Taeya, Ally, Jadyn and Savannah.

Jerry Savage Baker, Sr.

Jerry Savage Baker, Sr., 81, of Arkabutla, passed away July 10, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nanette Baker and his brother, Billy Baker.

He is survived by his daughter, Penny Montgomery (Ron) of Arkabutla; son, Jerry “Butch” Baker (Debbie) of Cottonville; sister, Martha McKay of Leakesville; brothers, James Lee Baker and Ralph Baker both of Cottonville; and his grandchildren, Jessica Sexton, Rachel Mayfield, Rebekah Ferguson and Jonathon Montgomery.

Memorials may be sent to St. Jude or Arkabutla Baptist Church where he was a member.

Services were held Saturday, July 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Arkabutla Baptist Church. Burial followed in Surrette cemetery.

Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.

Annie Mae Bledsoe

Annie Mae Bledsoe, 90, of Como, passed away July 6, 2016 at her residence.

She is survived by her daughter, Mattie Bledsoe of Spring Park, Ill.; sons, Leon Bledsoe of Como, Edward Bledsoe of Memphis, Tenn., James Bledsoe of Memphis, Tenn., Leroy Bledsoe of Houston, Texas, Calvin Bledsoe of Memphis, Tenn., Dennis Bledsoe of Franklin, La. and Robert Morgan of Blytheville, Ark.; sister, Dorothy Butler of Batesville; brother, W.T. Joner of Chicago, Ill.; 32 grandchildren; 61 great grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Bledsoe was a member of Mt. Calm M.B. Church.

Services were held Saturday, July 16, at 11:00 a.m. at the Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ in Senatobia. Burial followed in Senatobia Memorial cemetery.

Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.

Philip William Correro

Philip William Correro, 85, of Senatobia, passed away Monday, July 11, 2016, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Connie Gresham Correro; sisters, Grace Madden, Nuncie Long, Elizabeth Bonnell, Mary Grace Correro; brothers Joseph Correro, Dominic Correro, Brossie D. Correro and parents Philip L. and Dorothy Piera Correro.

He is survived by son William Correro (Julie), Senatobia; daughters Carolyn Correro (Randy Helmick), Madison; and Connie Wells (Ken Turner), Madison; sister Margaret Long (Vernon), Chicago, Ill.; brother Jack Correro, Blue Ridge, Texas; grandchildren Phillip Correro, Richard Correro and Reed Wells; sister-in-law Eleanor Schechter, West Chester, Pa.; special friend Betty M. Smith, Senatobia; and other relatives Roy Wells and Don Shanks.

Philip was the eighth child of the ten siblings and grew up in Drew, Miss. He graduated Drew High School, playing football for four years and was All Delta Valley Conference.

In 1949 he signed to go to Mississippi State to play football but decided instead to serve in the United States Army. He went to Korea as a corporal in 1950 and came home a Master Sargent in 1951 with a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Infantry Badge with the 24th and 25th Divisions. He was in the National Guard in Senatobia for many years.

After returning from Korea, Philip worked as an aerial application pilot with his brother Dominic in Clarksdale. He married icon Connie Gresham of Jackson in 1955 and moved to Senatobia 1958. He was a shop manager for H&M Motors (Later Moore Chevrolet) in Senatobia before starting his own home building business.

In 1967, Philip was hired by Holiday Inns, Inc. in Memphis as a Construction Project Manager and went on to become President of the entire Construction Division.

In 1974, Philip left to start his own commercial renovation company, primarily renovating hotels nationwide, which he ran and worked until his retirement in 1994 though he continued to stay active.

Philip was a member of St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church in Senatobia. Visitation was held at Pate-Jones Funeral Home (Senatobia) on Wednesday, July 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Thursday July 14, at St. Gregory at 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass followed at St. Gregory at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church, or The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
