Sylvia Mckenzie Penn

JACKSON -- Sylvia Mckenzie Penn, 58, a computer operator, died of cancer Saturday, May 15, 1999, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson.

Services were held May 17, 1999, in Mark E. Seepe Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Penn was a native and longtime resident of Jackson where she was a graduate of Central High School and worshiped in the Methodist Church. She was formerly associated with the state of Mississippi and was affiliated with Allstate Insurance in Jackson at the time of her death. Her hobbies included dancing, swimming, skiing and horseback riding, those who knew her said.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Lee Penn Sr. of Jackson; daughter, Pam P. Keith of Jackson; sons, Thomas L. Penn Jr. and Robert Allan Penn, both of Jackson; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Mississippi Division, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 39213.

Ruby E. Hook

CANTON -- Ruby E. Hook, 86, a homemaker, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, of heart failure at Madison County Medical Center in Canton.

Services were held Tuesday at Canton cemetery. Breeland Funeral Home of Canton handled arrangements.

A Madison County native, Mrs. Hook had lived in Indiana for about 20 years before returning to Canton.

Survivors include her step-daughter, Doris Patz of Hebron, Ind.; sister, Eugenia Randle of Jackson; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Gloria Jean Jones Hegwood

RIDGELAND -- Gloria Jean Jones Hegwood, 52, a homemaker, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, of heart failure at Whispering Pines Hospice in Ridgeland.

Services were held Friday at Jenkins cemetery in Sumner. Mark E. Seepe Funeral Home of Jackson handled arrangements.

Mrs. Hegwood was a Charleston native.

Survivors include her son, Cary Hegwood of Florence; sisters, Myra Childress of Clinton and Paulette Tyson of Byram; grandmother, Lula Mae Hicks of Sumner; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 39213.

Shirley Marie Roach

RIDGELAND -- Mrs. Shirley Marie Roach, 64, a homemaker, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, of cancer at her home in Ridgeland.

Services were held Tuesday at Eternal Hill Memory Garden Funeral Home in Snellville, Ga., with interment in the Eternal Hill Memory Garden cemetery there. Nowell-Flippin Funeral Home of Ridgeland handled local arrangements.

A Decatur, Ga., native, Mrs. Roach had lived in the area for about 10 years. She was a member of Trace Ridge Baptist Church of Ridgeland, where she was a Sunday School teacher, Children's Church leader, director of GAs and director of Vacation Bible School. She was nominated for the 1999 Sunday School Teacher of the Year Award and was also a member of Gideon International Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Roach Sr. of Ridgeland; son, Harold Roach Jr. of Statesboro, Ga.; daughter, Patricia Roach of Snellville Ga.; brother, Floyd Dyer of Stone Mountain, Ga.; sisters, Shilby Smith and Charlotte McDonald, both of Snellville, Ga.; and one grandson.

Memorials may be made to Gideon's International, Jackson and Madison Camp, P.O. Box 79011, Jackson, MS 39236.

Alice "Patty" K. Fajen

SHARON -- Alice "Patty" K. Fajen, an editor, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, of complications from cancer at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.

Services were held Friday from Grace Episcopal Church in Canton with the Rev. Janet Ott officiating. Mark E. Seepe Funeral Home and Crematory of Jackson handled arrangements.

A Milwaukee, Wis., native, Mrs. Fajen was a Smith College graduate. She had been a nationally-ranked junior tennis player.

Her passion for bird dog sports led her to serve as Editor-in-Chief of Retriever Field Trial News and president of the Amateur Retriever Club. In Milwaukee, she was a member of the Junior League and Colonial Dames. She was also a member of the Double Headers Club. She was inducted into the Field Trial Hall of Fame in 1998 honoring her contributions to the sport.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore E. Fajen Jr., in 1993.

Survivors include her daughter, Alice F. Chang of Seattle, Wash.; sons, Theodore E. Fajen 3rd of Lufkin, Texas, and William A. Fajen of Tampa, Fla.; sister, Marilyn K. Fifield of Milwaukee, Wis.; brother, Frederick B. Kieckhefer of Naples, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Sarah "Sue" Halbert Yelverton

CARTHAGE -- Sarah "Sue" Halbert Yelverton, 81, a retired manufacturing supervisor, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, of cancer at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.

Services were held Wednesday at Breeland Funeral Home Chapel in Canton with interment in Canton cemetery.

A Carpenter native, Mrs. Yelverton had lived in Canton most of her life before moving to Carthage five years ago. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Allen Halbert, who died in 1995.

Survivors include her son, Billy Martin Halbert Sr. of Canton; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mary Evelyn Jenkins

JACKSON -- Mrs. Mary Evelyn Jenkins, 89, a retired dietitian, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, of heart failure at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.

Services were held Monday at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street with interment in Lakewood Memorial Park.

A native of the Zemuly community of Attala County and a graduate of McAdams High School, Mrs. Jenkins lived most of her life in Jackson. She retired from the Jackson Public School System after many, many years as a dietitian. She was a former longtime member of Parkway Baptist Church and a current member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters, JoAnne Megginson and Mary Lou Ownby, both of Jackson; sisters, Colleen Hutchison of Newport, Shirley Hodges of Madison and Peggy Acey of Jackson; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association, Mid-Mississippi Chapter, in Jackson.

Thelma Ray Skelton

CANTON -- Mrs. Thelma Ray Skelton, 82, a homemaker, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, of heart failure at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus.

Services were held Tuesday at Nowell-Flippin Funeral Home in Canton with interment in Raytown cemetery in Madison County.

A native and lifelong resident of Madison County, Mrs. Skelton was a member of Farmhaven Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husbands Owens B. Ray and Charlie C. Skelton.

Survivors include her sons, Wayne Ray of Trenton, S.C., and O.R. Ray of Philadelphia; daughters, Mattie Wynn and Frances Rainey, both of Jackson, Barbara Ray of Farmhaven, Nellie Wood of Kimberling City, Mo., Onitta Skelton of Columbus and Alberta Renfroe of Farmhaven; seven step-children; sister, Patsy Beard of Canton; 22 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

Fannie Lee Partain

CANTON -- Mrs. Fannie Lee Partain, 96, a homemaker, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, of congestive heart failure at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.

Services were held Friday at Quiet Ridge cemetery in Pickens. Nowell-Flippin Funeral Home of Canton handled arrangements.

A Maben native, Mrs. Partain was a lifelong resident of Madison County. She was the widow of Jack M. Partain of Pickens. She attended Shiloh Presbyterian Church in Camden, where she was active in all church activities.

Friends said she was the type of person who was very loved by all who knew her.

Survivors include her son, H.M. Partain of Pickens; daughter, Mary Jane Thompson of Madison; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Williams Bradley

RIDGELAND -- Dorothy Williams Bradley, 85, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, of cancer at Whispering Pines Hospice in Ridgeland.

Services were held Saturday at Mark E. Seepe Funeral Home Chapel in Jackson.

A Jackson native, Mrs. Bradley had graduated from Central High School and attended Belhaven College and Jackson Business School. She was a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Jackson.

Those who knew her said family was an important component of her life, dedicating herself to her husband, daughters and grandchildren, whom she supported in all their endeavors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Acquilla Bradley.

Survivors include her daughters, Sylvia Bradley Stein of Dallas, Texas, and Tricia Bradley Knight of Jackson; brothers, Edwin Holmes Todd of Seattle, Wash., and Thomas Gresham Todd and Benjamin L. Todd 3rd, both of Clinton; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Whispering Pines Hospice, 450 Towne Center Boulevard, Ridgeland, MS 39157.

Frederick J. Lotterhos Jr.

JACKSON -- Frederick J. Lotterhos Jr., 70, an attorney, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at his home in Jackson.

Services were held Saturday at St. James Episcopal Church in Jackson with interment in Lakewood Memorial Park cemetery. Mark E. Seepe Funeral Home of Jackson handled arrangements.

A Jackson native, Mr. Lotterhos graduated from Central High School in 1946, having attended Jackson Public Schools and Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va. He received a B.A. from the University of Mississippi in 1950 and an L.L.B. from the University of Virginia. He served two years in the U.S. Air Force.

He served 21 years as general counsel of the Mississippi Employment Security Commission, prior to which he had engaged in private practice. He was also an assistant state attorney general, where he was instrumental in the recodification resulting in the Mississippi Code of 1972. He served one term in the Mississippi House of Representatives. After retirement from state service, he served as chairman of the board of review of the Employment Security Commission.

Mr. Lotterhos was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry. He also served on the boards of the Jackson Kiwanis Club, Northside and Metropolitan YMCA and the R.H. Green Foundation. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order and the first families of Virginia.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Evelyn Hand Lotterhos of Jackson; daughter, Melanie L. Slocum of Jacksonville, Fla.; sons, Fred J. Lotterhos 3rd of Jacksonville, Fla., and David Hand Lottershos of Athens, Ala.; sisters, Margaret Smith of Houston, Texas, Catherine Mills and Ary Jane Lyle, both of Jackson; one grandson and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Ministries, 450 Towne Center Boulevard, Ridgeland, MS 39157; or St. James Episcopal Church, 3921 Oakridge Drive, Jackson, MS 39216.

Lummie Claude Barnes

Lummie Claude Barnes, 68, of Coldwater, passed away June 14, 2016 at his residence.

He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Thomas (James) and Carolyn Hudson (Walter); son, Michael Barnes (Mindy) all of Coldwater; 12 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Services were held Thursday, June 16 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Pate-Jones Funeral Home. Burial followed at Mt. Zion cemetery.
