HOLLANDALE -- Funeral arrangements for Huff Perry Leavell, 47, of Hollandale are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Hollandale. He died Aug. 28, 2001, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

Pittman

BELZONI -- Graveside services for Rena T. Pittman, 77, of Long Beach and formerly of Greenville, a retired office manager, will be today at 2 p.m. in Belzoni City Cemetery, Belzoni. She died of heart failure Aug. 28, 2001, at her home. Burial will be under the direction of Mortimer Funeral Home, Belzoni.

She was born in Greenville and lived in Belzoni for 38 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Belzoni.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Pittman.

Survivors include one daughter, Jana P. McKenzie of Long Beach; one sister, Lou Reed of Silver City; three grandchildren; Jay McKenzie of Gainesville, Fla., Brad McKenzie of Gulfport and Heather Knight of Long Beach; and four great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Richard Wiman will officiate.

Burial will be in Willing Workers Cemetery, Sunflower, under the direction of Bea's Century Funeral Home, Greenville.

Survivors include his wife, Luella Stovall of Sunflower; one daughter, Yumekia (Dyrease) Mosley of Sunflower; two sons, Robert (Ann) Davis of Milwaukee and Kenyada Stovall of Sunflower; three brothers, William Stovall and Willie Lee Stovall, both of Sunflower, and Jimmie Lee Stovall of St. Louis, Mo.; and three grandchildren.

Family hour will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon at the church.

The Rev. Terry Cobbs will officiate.

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Audrey Valentine, 85, of Greenville are pending at Watson-Edwards & Evans Funeral Home, Greenville She died May 27, 2002, at her home.

Gerald

LELAND — Funeral services for James Decell Gerald Sr., 88, of Leland, a retired salesman, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Leland United Methodist Church, Leland. He died of heart failure Dec. 1, 2002, at his home. Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery, Stoneville, under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.

Mr. Gerald was born to Carey Napoleon and Lola Ball Gerald in Leland, Miss. He attended school at Mars Hill, Miss., Asbury Academy in Wilmore, Ky., and graduated from Hollandale High School. He attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College and Mississippi State University. He married Carolou Henry in 1937, and moved to Leland. To this union, three children were born. She preceded him in death in 1971. Mr. Gerald was a farmer, an oil jobber, district manager of Goyer Oil Co., and salesperson for International Graphics, from which he retired. He was also the last charter member of the Leland Lions Club, which he helped to organize. He served as district governor from 1958 to 1959. He served in the Air Force in the Pacific theater in World War II, namely New Guinea and the Philippines. He was active in Scout work, the Salvation Army and the Gideons. He was a member of the Leland United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Stewards. He was chairman of the pastor's parish committee and sang in the choir for 50 years. In 1973, he married Margaret York. After retirement, he became an avid gardener and shared all his produce with neighbors and friends. He was a member of the Grand Lodge No. 490 for 50 years.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

He is survived by his lovely and devoted wife of 29 years, Margaret York Gerald of Leland; one daughter, Carolyn Gerald Swartzwelder of Metairie, La.; two sons, James Decell Gerald Jr. of Clarksdale and Thomas Henry Gerald of Eugene, Ore.; two sisters, Opal Gerald Toalston of Alliance, Ohio, and Hope Gerald Hood of Florence; a brother, Clay Nelson Gerald of Jackson; a granddaughter, Cynthia Gerald Rocconi of Cleveland; three grandsons, David Kelton Gerald of Tyler, Texas, William Carey Gerald of Indianola and Jimbo Gerald of Jackson; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Boone Funeral Home, Leland.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Delta Area Hospice, the Leland United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.

Holloway

LELAND — Funeral arrangements for George Holloway, 73, of Leland, are pending at Dillon Funeral Home, Leland. He died Dec. 2, 2002, at his home.

King

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Harden King Sr., 79, of Greenville will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Calvary MB Church, Greenville. He died Nov. 28, 2002, at University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Church Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mr. Harden King Sr. was born April 14, 1923, in Sidon, Miss., to the late Stokes King Sr. and Marie Adams King. He was the seventh of 16 siblings. He confessed a belief in Christ at an early age at Mt. Moriah MB Church near Panther Burn, Miss., under Elder Yancy. He was a member of Jones Chapel MB Church until he joined Mt. Calvary MB Church in 1966. He loved his church family. He was an active deacon until his death.

As the son of one of the church's original founders, Harden supported his church by attending Sunday school, church services, testimonial services, and maintaining the lawn and cemetery placements. On Wednesday, he will be placed on the right side of his sister, Bobbie Jean. Harden attended a church school. He read very well and encouraged his children and grandchildren to get an education, but most importantly, to get an understanding. During the time of World War II and the Great Depression, Harden was deferred because of his accidental foot amputation. Therefore, he was available to marry Jessie Sewell King, and on Nov. 25, 1943, he joined into holy matrimony with her. To their union, 13 children were born, six sons and seven daughters. Harden was a born farmer, and worked with his father on the King's Estate farming, drove a cab and ran his own store. He was a retiree from Vlasic Pickle Plant. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sylvia Lou King Johnson and Bobbie Jean King McCullough; seven brothers, Connie, Ercell, Isiah, Ralph, Stokes Jr., Willie Roy and Jimmy King; one son, Winston King Sr.; and six grandchildren, Rosalyn, Tony, Winston Jr., Vickie, Curtis Jr. and Nathaniel.

He leaves his legacy with a virtuous woman, his wife, Jessie Mae Sewell King of Greenville; five sons, Harden Jr. (Delores) of Florida, Tommye and Dennis, both of Greenville, Thomas Lloyd (Dolly) and Kenneth (Florida) King Sr., both of Miami, Fla.; seven daughters, Helen King DeShazer, Leathe King (Lee) Harris, Carolyn King and Deborah King (Milton) Davenport, all of Greenville, Brenda King (Alexander) Jarmon of Gautier, Miss., Kathy King (Ronald) Betts of Wichita, Kan., and Canolia King (Sgt. 1st Class Curtis) Carey of Eatontown, Fort Manmouth, N.J.; three brothers, Adolph (Margaret) King, Frank King and Albert King, all of Miami, Fla.; three sisters, Vera King Hardy of Bronx, N.Y., and Geraldine King Layton and Helen King Matthews, both of Greenville; three brothers-in-law, Minister Roy (Tecora) Sewell of Detroit, Fred (Ethel) Sewell of Chicago and Ralph (Nellie) Sewell of Silver City; three sisters-in-law, Carrie Sewell (Robert) Hicks of Madison, and Ethel Sewell (James) Williams and Lottie Elizabeth King, both of Miami, Fla.; 55 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

Visitation will be today from 1 to 5 p.m., with family hour from 6 to 7 p.m., at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. The remains will lie in state at the church Wednesday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The Rev. Tony R. Smith will officiate.

Lewis

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Funeral arrangements for Norris L. Lewis, 46, of Inglewood, Calif., and formerly of Beulah are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Nov. 23, 2002, at Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital, Los Angeles.
