RUTH NORTON BENNETT, 82, of Tippah County, retired schoolteacher, died April 13 at Tippah County Hospital. Services were held April 15 at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Pine Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. She was a graduate of Blue Mountain College, a member of Pine Hill Primitive Baptist Church, Kappa Kappa Iota Educational Sorority, Tippah County Retired Teachers Association, and the Ripley Business and Professional Women's Club. She was an adult advisor for the Tippah County 4-H clubs for 20 years and a Ripley Girl Scout Leader, and she also coached Jr. High and High School girls basketball teams in the North Tippah District. Mrs. Bennett, the widow of Charlie Miles Bennett, leaves a daughter, Patsy Braddock of Falkner; a son Charles ‘Jerry’ Bennett of Olive Branch; a brother, Will Ed Norton of Ripley; two sisters, Elizabeth Crawford of Ripley and Opal Mauney of Lewisville, Tex., six grandchildren, a stepgrandson, and a great-grandaughter.

PERCY RAY BOGGAN SR., 85, of Memphis, Tenn., retired LPN for V.A. Hospital, died April 9 at Spring Gate Nursing Home in Memphis. Services were held April 12 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch with burial in Boggan Cemetery there. He was a member of White Station Baptist Church, and a World World II Army veteran. Mr. Boggan leaves his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Langley Boggan; a daughter, Kay Aldridge of Collierville, Tenn.; two sons, Percy Ray Boggan Jr. of Germantown, and James Boggan of Memphis; two sisters, Fannie Mae Laughter and Stella Kate Powell, both of Byhalia; two brothers, Charlie Boggan of Brownsville, Tenn., and Paul Boggan of Memphis, five grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be sent to Alzheimer's Association or White Station Baptist Church.

JOE H. DEATON, 77, of Southaven, retired district manager from Newell Manufacturing Co., died April 14 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. Services were held April 17 at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven with burial in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens. He was a Navy veteran and member of Markham United Methodist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in Little Rock. Mr. Deaton leaves his wife of 57 years, Marie Deaton; a son, Mike Deaton of Southaven, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Dees; four sons, Charles ‘Rickey’ Dees III of Horn Lake, Thomas ‘Dickey’ Dees of Eudora, Robert ‘Bob’ Dees of Horn Lake, and Norman "Nick’ Dees of Memphis; three stepdaughters, Sherri Thompson of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Ronda Reed of Parsons, Tenn., and Tammy Faye McClaum of Scotthill, Tenn.; two stepsons, Carl Williams of Camden, Tenn., and Guy Williams of Rolling Fork; his mother, Marie Dees; three sisters, Joan Carson of Eudora, Carolyn Smotherman, of Parsons, and Ann Woodall of Eudora, nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Memorial services were held April 17 at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel. He was a Gulf War Navy veteran and recipient of three Bronze Stars. Mr. Lyons leaves his wife, Mellissa Lyons; three sons, Thomas Roberts of Horn Lake, and Jonathon Roberts and Chris Roberts, both of North Las Vegas; his father, Robert Patrick Lyons of Memphis; a sister, Cindy Erwin of Olive Branch; his grandmother, Hazel Lyons of Memphis, and two grandchildren.
