Sara Jane Evans, 70, died Jan. 22, 2005 at Cherokee Baptist Medical Center in Centre, Ala. She was the widow of James Evans, a retired director of contracting at Fort Campbell, Ky. She was a Baptist.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 26 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Lebanon cemetery in Potts Camp.

She leaves two sons, Jimmy Evans of Leesburg, Ala., Jerry Evans of Centre, Ala.; a daughter, Jean Evans Dudley of Clarksville, Tenn.; two brothers, Edgar Wilkinson, Roy Wilkinson, both of Potts Camp; a sister, Irene Howell of Potts Camp; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Williams.

Alvin Earl Gordon
Alvin Earl (Big Al) Gordon, 44, of Myrtle, died Jan. 27, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He was employed at Woods Tire Store for several years, before his mother’s health began to decline and he became her caregiver.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 30 at Palestine MB Church, Blue Mountain. Burial was in Adkins Chapel cemetery, Blue Mountain. Rev. Patrick Washington officiated. Serenity Funeral Home Inc. of Holly Springs was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two brothers, Robert Gordon of East Point, James Gordon of Myrtle; an uncle, Dewey Adkins of Evanston, Ill.; three aunts, Flossie Baldon of Buffalo, N.Y., Virginia Spight of Cotton Plant, Vinette Adkins of Evanston, Ill.

Chester L. Hutchens
Chester L. Hutchens, 87, of Potts Camp, died Jan. 22, 2005 at home. He was a sawmill owner and operator, a flea market and auction dealer, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Heroic Achievement, and several other awards.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 25 at Bethlehem Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Steve Wilson officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Louise B. Hutchens; four sons, Chester E. (Peewee) Hutchens of Waterford, Buford Hutchens of Conway, Ark., Faron Hutchens of Potts Camp, Kenneth Hutchens of Hickory Flat; five daughters, Lavon Owens of Gulfport, Kathy Myers of Sardis, Virginia McCallen of Byhalia, Ophelia Warrington of Memphis, Lynda Williams of Potts Camp; a brother, Alvie Hutchens of Arlington, Tenn.; a sister, Earline Minor of Hickory Flat; 27 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Tina Owens, Heather Hutchens, Lee Warrington; three brothers, Lemly Hutchens, Raymond Hutchens, Mildred Hutchens.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Joe Bennett, Chuck Thomas, Kevin Thomas, Barry Thomas, Don Lemons, David Stanton, Sonny Stanton.

Sarah Louise Johnson Ivy
Sarah Louise Johnson Ivy, 63, of Holly Springs, formerly of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Cleveland, Ohio, died Jan. 24, 2005 at her home. She was the widow of Lieutenant Ivy Jr.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 29 at Chulahoma MB Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio. Rev. John E. Booker officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home of Holly Springs was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two daughters, Rose Telsee of Savannah, Ga., Crescent Bynum of Memphis, Tenn.; four sons, Bobby Johnson, Tony Ivy, Louis Ivy, all of Holly Springs, Lieutenant Ivy III of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Carrie Hartman, Hazel Bell, both of Cleveland, Ohio; three brothers, James Edward Johnson Jr., Keith D. Johnson, Homer L. Johnson, all of Cleveland, Ohio; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Pallbearers were Charlie Rounds, Quincell Hubbard, Marshall Maxwell, Casey Muse, Aubrey Lee Smith, Zedrick Banger. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Johnson, Tony Ivy, Danny Telsee Sr., Lieutenant Ivy III, Louis Ivy, Wayne Bynum.Elizabeth Bingham Kent

Elizabeth Bingham (Betsy) Kent passed away after a battle with cancer in Holly Springs on Jan. 25, 2005. She hosted a weekly radio program for Rust College as well as produced her own independent radio program, “Not Down On Any Map,” which showcased both humorous and tender stories about people living in small towns. She attended the College of William and Mary and was a noted writer and photographer on horticultural, environmental and related topics.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Jan. 29 at the Kate Freeman Clark Gallery in Holly Springs, followed by a memorial service and interment in Williamsburg, Va. on Feb. 5.

She leaves her son, Rhodes Fishburne; her sister, Nancy Kent Anderson of Ocoee, Fla.; a brother, Yelverton Cleveland Kent of Williamsburg, Va.; and one grandson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Marshall County Library, 109 E. Gholson Avenue, Holly Springs, MS 38635 or Unity Hospice, 6810 Crumpler Blvd., Olive Branch, Mississippi 38654.

Beverly Michelle Luellen
Beverly Michelle Luellen, 32, of Lamar, died Jan. 22, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Collierville, Tenn.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 29 at Golden Jerusalem MB Church in Collierville, Tenn. Burial was in New Stinson Charity Gardens cemetery, Rossville, Tenn. Rev. George C. Winton officiated. Serenity Funeral Home Inc. of Holly Springs was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her parents, Manuel James of Collierville, Tenn., Fannie Mae Luellen of Lamar; a daughter, Sirriand Latrice Luellen of Lamar; a son, Trence Donell Luellen of Lamar; two brothers, Earl Spencer of Memphis, Anthony Chairs of Collierville, Tenn.; six sisters, Brenda Harris of Michigan City, Patricia Ann Spencer of Laws Hill, Darlene Louellen of Potts Camp, Regina Kimble, Emma Lee Kimble, both of Holly Springs, Diane Luellen of Lamar.

Patricia Alice Nave
Patricia Alice Nave, 71, of Byhalia, died Jan. 27, 2005 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. She was the widow of Joseph A. Nave and a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Victoria.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 29 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Byhalia cemetery. Bro. James Wolfe officiated.

She leaves three sons, Joe Allen Nave of Bartlett, Tenn., Carl Nave, Neil Nave, both of Byhalia; four daughters, Clara Moses of Victoria, Cathy Cain of Georgia, Teresa Armstrong of Byhalia, Debbie Nave of Victoria; a brother, Bill Webster of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Grace Moreshead of Tucson, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were the Victoria Fire Department.

Cleo M. Page
Cleo M. Page, 94, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 26, 2005 at Trinity Missions Nursing Home in Holly Springs. She was the widow of John E. Page, and a Baptist.

She leaves a son, John E. Page of Holly Springs; and a grandson, Michael John Page of Clearwater Fla.

Memorials may be made to Alliance Charitable Foundation, 1430 Hwy 4 East, Holly Springs, MS 35635.

Olivia Brown

Olivia Brown, 101, of Chicago, Ill., died Dec. 10, 2005 at her home.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 17 at St. Luke Church of God in Christ in Olive Branch. Burial was in Heavenly Rest Memorial cemetery in Clarksdale. Pastor, Elder Earl Shannon, officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves five children, 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Lyle Gibson DeHart

Lyle Gibson DeHart, 83, of Waterford, died Dec. 15, 2005. He was a Baptist and a Federal employee with the IRS. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Graveside services were held at at 11 a.m. on Dec. 19 at Spring Hill cemetery.

He leaves his wife, Mary DeHart; a son, Paul DeHart of Waterford; a brother, Henry DeHart of Bryson City, NC; a sister, Edna Jenkins of Bryson City, NC; and two grandchildren.

Sue Howell

Sue Howell, 78, died Dec. 18, 2005, at The Homeplace Assisted Living Center in Saltillo. She was the widow of Joseph Simril Howell. She was born icon in Holly Springs. She retired as the director of the East Chickasaw County Department of Human Services with more than 25 years of service. She was active in the Egypt Methodist Church, the Pilot Club, the Twentieth Century Club, the Young Matrons League, the PTA and the Chickasaw County Democratic Executive Committee.

Graveside services were held in Oddfellows cemetery. Rev. William E. (Bill) Harris officiated. Holland-Harris Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves three daughters, Suzanne Word of West Point, Rebekah Kelly of Egypt, Rachael Webb of Saltillo; a brother, John Nathan Cottrell of Sanford, NC; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Mississippi Alzheimer’s Association, 5295 Galaxie Drive, Suite D, Jackson, MS 39206.

Mattie Todd Jones

Mattie Todd Jones, 87, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Cayce, died Dec. 9, 2005 at Whitehaven Community Living Center in Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of Levi Jones; a member of Mt. Zion-Taska MB Church in Cayce; a member of the church’s mother board and former church assistant secretary and choir member.

Services were held at 12 noon on Dec. 14 at Mt. Zion-Taska MB Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Keith Pendilton officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves a niece who was her caregiver, Helen Martin of Cayce.

She was preceded in death by a son, Walter T. Jones.

Pallbearers were her family and friends.

Ezra Moore

Ezra Moore, 52, of Okolona, died Dec. 15, 2005 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Services were held at 12 noon on Dec. 21 at Church of God of Prophecy in Okolona. Burial was in Mt. Moriah cemetery in Okolona. Bishop Willie B. Ware Jr. officiated. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves a daughter, Selina Bennett of North Carolina; two sisters, Gloria Edwards, Fannie Ridenour of Kalamazoo, Mich.; seven brothers, Johnny Moore of Coldwater, Orlando Moore of Chicago, Ill., Nabors, Willie C. Jr. and Robert Moore, all of Okolona, Richard and Tracy Moore of Kalamazoo; and one grandchild.

Carla Elizabeth Pauly

Carla Elizabeth Pauly, 37, of Mt. Pleasant, died Dec. 15, 2005 at Baptist East in Memphis, Tenn.

She was a member of Slayden Baptist Church and a teacher’s aide with Marshall County Schools.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 18 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Boswell cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Bro. David Bishop officiated.

She leaves her husband, David Pauly; a son, David Thomas Pauly of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Elizabeth Joyce Pauly, Davanie Alice Pauly, both of Mt. Pleasant; her mother, Elizabeth Bobbitt of Mt. Pleasant; her stepfather, Jimmy Bobbitt of Mt. Pleasant; four sisters, Susan Taylor of Water Valley, Tammy Simmons, Carol Gates, Exyah Watkins, all of Mt. Pleasant.

Richard Paul Robinson

Richard Paul Robinson, 51, of Waterford, died Dec. 17, 2005 at his home. He was a foreman with Roura Ironworks.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 20 at Bethany Baptist Church in Potts Camp, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Bro. Donald Worsham officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two sons, Brian Robinson of Potts Camp, Taylor Robinson of Waterford; his mother, Louise Johns Allen of Ripley; two brothers, Jim Robinson of Waterford, Anthony Robinson of Edmond, Okla.; a sister, Marie Edwards of Myrtle; and two grandchildren.

Ruby Hartley Stewart

Ruby Hartley Stewart, 85, of Holly Springs, died Dec. 17, 2005 at her home. She was the widow of William (Red) Stewart. She was a Methodist.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 20 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Free Springs United Methodist Church cemetery in Harmontown.

She leaves a son, William Marlin Stewart of Cordova, Tenn.; two daughters, Susan Stewart Tankersley of Waterford, Mary Stewart Haas of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a sister, Tommie Jean Floate of Waterford; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia S. Murchison; and a grandchild, Randy Eugene Murchison.

M.C. Pointer Turner

M.C. Pointer Turner, 76, of Moscow, Tenn., died Dec. 13, 2005 at her home.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 17 at Sims Chapel MB Church in Michigan City. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Adam Gholson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Luther Turner; an adopted daughter, Genevia Foxx of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Elsie Mason of Moscow, Tenn.; four grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Randy Hampton, Willie Craig, Charles Edward Craig, Eric Griggs, Aaron Jones and Terry Spencer. Honorary pallbearers were Tommie Mason, John Franklin and Sam Franklin.
