Sharon DeWeese Price, 42, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Holly Springs, died Dec. 31 at her parents’ home in Holly Springs. She was a member of Friendship MB Church in Columbus, Ohio, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Ohio Teachers Association and Columbus City Teachers Association. She was a school teacher in Columbus Ohio Public Schools.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 6 at Rust College Doxey Auditorium in Holly Springs. Burial was in Mt. Zion CME Church cemetery. Minister Roger Price officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two daughters, Zackeia Sharrae Cooper, Zorian Sharron Cooper, both of Columbus, Ohio; parents, Rev. Walter Washington and Mrs. Zalie Hamer Washington of Holly Springs; two sisters, Brenda Boga of Ashland, Linda Iweze of Columbia, Mo.; three brothers, Walter Washington Jr. of Vallejo, Calif., Rev. Roger Price Jr. of Beaumont, Calif., Rev. Patrick Washington of Holly Springs.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Joey Adderson Price.

Pallbearers were John Matthews, Randy Matthews, Eldridge Boga, Carl Price, Earnest Price and Phillip Iweze. Honorary pallbearers were Walter Washington III, Eldrikus Boga, Zavier Iweze and Roger Price III.

Roger Reed

Roger Reed, 26, died Jan. 5, 2007.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 10 at Munford Funeral Home Chapel, 7450 Raleigh-Millington Rd., Munford, Tenn.

He leaves his common law wife, Crystal James; four children, Nicholas Reed, Roger Reed Jr., Zack Reed, Makaya Reed; his father, Jeffery Reed; his mother, Judy Boyd; brothers, Brandon Reed, Tyler Boyd; grandparents, Alice and Charles Bursi and Ethel Reed.

Dustin Thomas Stacks

Dustin Thomas Stacks, 16, of Falkner, died Dec. 29, 2006 at his home. He was a member of Falkner Baptist Church, where he was a member of Awana. He was accepted in National Guard Youth Challenge Program. He was employed at Tucker Electric Company in Ashland.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on Dec. 31 at McBride Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Ashland Church of Christ cemetery. Bro. Stanley Huddleston officiated.

He leaves his mother, Sherrie Ruiz and her husband Armondo of Falkner; two brothers, Christopher Stacks of Hickory Flat, Zachary Stacks of Falkner; his fiancée, April Holbrook of Ashland; his grandparents, Peggy LaNell McMurtry of Holly Springs, Norma Jean Hensley of Grand Junction, Tenn., Kenneth and Sheri Tucker of Ashland, Johnny Stacks of Ashland; his great-grandparents, Kathryn Shaw of Ashland, Lela Faye Barnes of Blue Mountain; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronnie Stacks; and his uncle, Donnie Stacks.

Pallabearers were Ron Bolden, Heath Hurdle, Bradley Skelton, John Tucker, Eddie Stacks, Roy Stacks, Justin Robbins and Justin Mills.

Benjamin G. (B.G.) Thompson

Benjamin G. (B.G.) Thompson, 79, retired truck driver, died December 22, 2006. He was in the United States Marines during World War II. He was a member of Mineral Wells Baptist Church in Olive Branch.

Services held on December 27. Burial was in Red Banks cemetery, Red Banks. Pastor Percy Renick officiated.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, Ruth M. Thompson; two daughters, Rita Giannini and her husband of Arlington, Tenn., Norma Chanudomchokof San Diego, Ca.; two sons, Michael Thompson of Byhalia, Steven Thompson of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Annie Mae Carter of Rossville, Tenn., Lurline Emrich of Memphis, Tenn., and one brother, Charles Thompson of Memphis, Tenn.; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to the donor’s choice.

Oliver Anthony Jr.

Oliver Anthony Jr., 33, of Memphis, Tenn., died Jan. 4, 2007 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. He served in the Army and was employed with Fed Ex and Home Depot.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 13 at Hearn Grove MB Church in Byhalia. Burial was in West Tennessee Veterans cemetery in Memphis. Rev. Archie Bowens officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his father, Oliver Anthony Sr. of Byhalia; his mother, Gloria Anthony of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Paris Anthony, Octavia Anthony, April Anthony, all of Memphis, Tenn.; and other family and friends.

Sarah Williams Gordon

Sarah Williams Gordon, 92, of Ashland, died Jan. 13, 2007 at Briarcrest Extended Care Home. She was the widow of L.B. Gordon. She served on the church usher board and sang in the choir.

Services will be held at 12 noon on Jan. 20 at Shiloh MB Church in Ashland, where she was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. L.M. Bowers will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

She leaves four sons, Henry Gordon, L.B. Gordon, Joe J. Gordon, all of Norristown, Penn., Isaac Gordon of Lamar; seven grandchildren and many great- and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, James Oscar Gordon; and a daughter-in-law, Jane A. Gordon.

Sherrye Lee Henson

Sherrye Lee Henson, 57, of Byhalia, died Jan. 15, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital. She was a member of Braybourne Baptist Church.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 18 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch. Burial will be in Memorial Park Southwoods cemetery.

She leaves her husband, Jesse Henson; two sons, Anthony Henson, Chris Henson; four daughters, Ronna Shoffner, Renee Manns, Jessica Light, Kathy Lowe; her parents, Jesse Lee and Annie Mae McDaniel; two sisters, Dolly Williamson, Patricia Canale; and 13 grandchildren.

Peggy M. Howell

Peggy M. Howell, 78, of Water Valley, formerly of Holly Springs, died Jan. 8, 2007 at Baptist Hospital in Oxford.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Jan. 10 at First United Methodist Church in Water Valley, where she was a member. Burial was in St. Peters cemetery in Oxford.

She leaves her husband, Hershel B. Howell; a daughter, Holly Kay Moore of Dwight, Ill.; four sons, Trent Lee Howell of Water Valley, Paul Byron Howell of Gulfport, Rex Dean Howell of Water Valley, James Mark Howell of Anchorage, Alaska; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Terry Warren, Greg Jones, Burney Howell, Mark Stewart, Joe Newman and Jimmy Holloway. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Grand Slam Bridge Club.

Emma Jeffries Mitchell

Emma Jeffries Mitchell, 85, of Holly Springs, formerly of Memphis, Tenn., died Jan. 11, 2007 at Alliance HealthCare. She was the widow of Hosea Mitchell. She was a member of Pilgrim Rest MB Church in Memphis, Tenn., a member of the church mother board and a retired domestic worker.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 17 at Rising Star MB Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. W.C. Swift will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two sisters, Jessie Dove Kilpatrick, Maud Ollie Martin, both of Holly Springs; and a niece and caregiver, Vernola Farrow Shaw of Holly Springs.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Jenkins, Diana Govan; and two brothers, Arthur Govan and Willie H. Govan.

Leon Franklin Munday

Leon Franklin Munday, 74, of Byhalia, died Jan. 11, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital. He was a Catholic and a machinist with American Can Co. He was an Army veteran of Korea and a member of VFW.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 17. Holly Springs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Julia (Sheila) Munday of Cayce; two sons, Earl W. Munday of Memphis, Tenn., Patrick M. Munday of Cayce; two daughters, Margaret A. Munday of Cayce, Kathleen T. Ward of Bartlett, Tenn.; a sister, Charlotte Biegner of Brick, N.J.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Leon F. Munday II.

Steven Turner Ward

Steven Turner Ward, 45, of Lamar, died Jan. 9, 2007. He was a member of Leewood Baptist and a driver for Fitch Oil Company.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 12 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Clear Creek cemetery in Lamar.

He leaves his wife, Becky Ward; a son, Lamar Ward of Columbus; stepsons, Tim Harris of Olive Branch, Chris Allen of Lamar; a daughter, Shelby Ward of Columbus; parents, Joe and Marie Ward of Memphis, Tenn.; brothers, Les Ward of Jacksonville, Fla., Richard Ward of Pensacola, Fla.; and one grandchild.

Wayne Lowry Yeager Sr.

Wayne Lowry Yeager Sr., 64, of Hickory Flat, died Jan. 11, 2007 at his home. He was a Baptist and a carpenter.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 14 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Pine Grove cemetery in Hickory Flat. Bro. Michael Baker officiated.

He leaves her wife, Lucy Yeager; two sons, Wayne Yeager Jr. of Hickory Flat, Timothy Yeager Sr. of Ashland; two daughters, Dawn Cartwright of Byhalia, Nicole Gann of Hickory Flat; a brother, Gene Yeager of Union City, Tenn.; a sister, Faye Pannell of Mt. Pleasant; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

James Frederick Bell

James Frederick (Fred) Bell, 79, of Mt. Pleasant, died Jan. 20, 2007. After graduating from LSU he taught school in Biloxi, for 33 years. He was a long-time member of the Biloxi Kiwanis Club, MEA, NEA and a seven-gallon blood donor to the American Red Cross Blood Program. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Olive Branch. He was a teacher and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 24 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Boswell cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

He leaves his wife, Ruth Alice Boswell Bell; two sons, James F. Bell III of Huntsville, Ala., Edward D. Bell of West Memphis, Ark.; and two grandchildren.

James E. Cronk

James E. (Jim) Cronk), 64, died Jan. 20, 2007 at VA Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. He served as a deacon at Collierville First Assembly of God. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis; he was a truck driver for many years and a painter.

Services were held at 12 noon on Jan. 23 at Brantley Funeral Home Chapel in Olive Branch. Burial was in Byhalia cemetery.

He leaves his wife of 47-1/2 years, Lillian J. Cronk; two daughters, Donna D. Cronk of Byhalia, Pamela P. Saine of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers, Robert Wilson of Pearland, Tx., George Wilson of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Patricia Lambert of Dunedin, Fla.; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Ray Cronk.

Willie Newt Echols

Willie Newt Echols, 64, of Byhalia, died Jan. 17, 2007 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven. He was disabled.

Services were held at 12 noon on Jan. 20 at Street Hill Primitive Baptist Church in Byhalia, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Elder Porter officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two daughters, Vanessa Ltroy Glenn, Natarsha Nyree Echols, both of Seguin, Tx.; his father and stepmother, Oliver Echols, Odessa Echols of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Donna Brookins of Memphis, Tenn., Bonnie Phillips of Detroit, Mich.; a brother, Ervin Echols of Memphis, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.
