Fred Holland, 93, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 10, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Desoto in Southaven. He was a member of Gray’s Chapel CME Church in Hudsonville. He was the widower of Thelma Walton, his wife of 59 years. He was a church steward, Sunday school superintendent, class leader, member of Masonic Lodge.

Services were held at 3 p.m. on Aug. 14 at Anderson Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs. Rev. Joe T. Lester officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves three daughters, Bernice H. Jackson, Freddie H. Jeffries, both of Holly Springs, Joyce L. Holland of East Point, Ga.; two sons, Robert Holland of St. Louis, Mo., Jesse J. Holland of Holly Springs; a sister, Florida Riddle of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, Edgar Holland of Holly Springs, Robert Hopkins of St. Louis, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

John Marshall Kennedy
John Marshall Kennedy, 48, died August 8, 2005 in Memphis, Tenn. He was the son of the late John Floyd Kennedy and Alma McAlexander Kennedy of Holly Springs.

Private services were held in Memphis.

He leaves two daughters, Drew and Ashley Kennedy; and three sisters, Helen Kennedy Robinson of Germantown, Tenn., Sylvia Kennedy McCort of Ft. Ashby, West Va. and Patricia Kennedy Anderson of Memphis, Tenn.

Joseph E. Maurey
Joseph E. Maurey, 89, died July 26, 2005. The widower of Joan Carpenter Maurey, he joined Maurey Manufacturing Corp. in 1935. His father founded Maurey Manufacturing Corp. in Chicago, Ill. in 1917. After his father’s death, he became president and CEO. He is succeeded by his son Joseph W. Maurey. Maurey moved the company to Holly Springs in 1985. Maurey Manufacturing has become one of the largest industries in north Mississippi.

He leaves his wife, Virginia Coyle Palmer Maurey; four children, Madeleine Walker, Joan Kouba, Jeanne Schlemmer and Joseph W. Maurey; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mickavis Kelivon Devontai Tucker
Mickavis Kelivon Devontai Tucker, 6, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 7, 2005 at University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. He was a member of True Vine MB Church in Holly Springs and a first grade student at Holly Springs Primary School.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on Aug. 13 at True Vine MB Church. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden in Holly Springs. Rev. Cunningham and Rev. Powell officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his mother, Sandra Tucker of Holly Springs; his father, Michael Cannon of Rossville, Tenn.; three sisters, Kenesha Tucker of Holly Springs; Tamesha Wright, Jaleesa Wright, both of Moscow, Tenn.; and his grandmother, Martha Cannon of Rossville.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Margaret Tucker Perkins.

Pallbearers were Charles Tucker, Roger Storey, Robert DeBerry, Jimmy Tucker, Courtney Cannon, Victor Dean, Jasper Cannon, Prezell Cannon. Honorary pallbearers were Elderick Glover, Lakeith Jones, James Isom, Myron Tate, Melvin Jones, Campaneris Hayes, Keldrick Tucker, Antonio Tucker, Pierre Tucker, Tony Burns, Mike Jones and Matthew Tucker.

Sweetie Faulkner Walton
Sweetie Faulkner Walton, 68, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 12, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member of Marshall County Retired Teachers Association, Mississippi Association of Educators and National Education Association. She was a retired teacher of Holly Springs public school system.

Services were held at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 15 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Holly Springs, where she was a member. Rev. J. Michael Culbreth officiated. Burial was in Camp Memorial Garden in Fayetteville, Ga. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, Artis Walton Sr. of Holly Springs; a daughter, Keener Walton-Odom of Fayetteville, Ga.; a son, Artis Walton Jr. of Holly Springs; two sisters, Mary C. Alford of Gary, Ind., Elene Thomas of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Fletcher Faulkner.

Pallbearers were Chauncey Walton, Andre Jackson, Kenneth Thomas, Willis Walton Jr., James Alford, Willie James Faulkner, Mark Alford, Melvin Faulkner. Honorary pallbearers were Willie Glenn Walton, James Conard, James Walton, Howard Walton, Walter Thomas, Donald Street, James Drummond and Lee Williams.

Daniel Clarence Collins Jr.
Daniel Clarence (D.C.) Collins Jr., 57, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died Aug. 16, 2005 in Sardis. He was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 20 at Finley Grove MB Church in Holly Springs, where he was a former member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. James Green, pastor, officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Carolyn L. Finnie Collins; a son, Christopher Collins of Memphis; a daughter, Krystal Collins of Memphis; his mother, Carrie Mae Dowdy Collins Evans of Holly Springs; three sisters, Sally Woodson of Holly Springs, Jerlean McNeil of Lexington, Ky., Dorothy Lipson of Memphis; and a brother, John Collins of Memphis.

Pallbearers were Roger Woodson, Melvin McNeil, D.C. Saulsbury, Lamonte McNeil, Isaac McNeil, Joseph Collins. Honorary pallbearers were Andrew Collins, George Woodson, Robert Woodson, Monroe Lipson, L.A. Dowdy Jr. and Charlie Williams.

Tim C. Davis
Tim C. Davis, 62, of Holly Springs, died Aug. 11, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a factory worker.

Services were held at 12 noon on Aug. 13 at Chulahoma Baptist Church in Holly Springs. Burial was in Street Hill Church cemetery. Rodgers Funeral Home in Coldwater was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves two sisters, Thelma L. Smith of Holly Springs, Ivory Martin of Chicago, Ill.; and a brother, Grant Davis of Byhalia.

Sandusky Byrd

Sandusky Byrd, 83, of Holly Springs, died March 29, 2006 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of First Baptist Church of Holly Springs and a mechanic.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 31 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Early Grove cemetery in Lamar.

He leaves his wife, Dorothy Byrd of Kennett, Mo.; two sons, Stanley Byrd of Southaven, Sandusky Byrd Jr. of Hernando; two daughters, Hattie Chambers of Piperton, Tenn., Sandra Alldredge of Holly Springs; his sister, Verse Gammons of Holly Springs; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Earnest Culver

Earnest Culver, 87, of Etta, died April 2, 2006 at his home. He was the widower of Lucille Teasler. He was Pentecostal and a road maintenance worker with Marshall County.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on April 5 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Mt. Moriah cemetery in Laws Hill.

He leaves two sons, George Culver, Billy Culver, both of Etta; two daughters, Susie Hicks of Sturgis, Emma Cundiff of Booneville, Ind.; a brother, Cleveland Culver of Waterford; two sisters, Annie Mae Feathers of Red Banks, Irene Nichols of New Albany; 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

William C. Foster

William C. Foster, 62, of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of Benton County, died March 26, 2006 at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital. He was the widower of Elise Hames-Foster. He worked as a cabinet maker for various companies. He retired from Holzheimer Interiors, Inc., Cleveland, Ohio.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on April 1 at Mt. Zion CME Church in Ashland. Burial was in the church cemetery. Jones - Payton Funeral Directors, Ashland, was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves three children, William C. Foster of Columbus, Ohio, Twinnette Andrews of Vacaville, Calif., Tabitha Calloway of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother and sister, Joe Foster of Cleveland, Ohio, Bessie Williams of Chicago, Ill.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Charles E. Andrews, Larry Calloway, Jerry L. Foster, Jermaine Seals, James Andrew Washington and John Washington.

Martha Mae Byrd Hanna

Martha Mae Byrd Hanna, 71, of Holly Springs, died March 30, 2006 at Alliance HealthCare. She was a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on April 1 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Clear Creek cemetery. Bro. Donald Worsham officiated.

She leaves her husband, Eugene L. Hanna; two sons Terry T. Byrd of Holly Springs, Sandy Byrd of Potts Camp; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Michael Craig Brown

Jan. 6, 1958 -- July 15, 2002

NATCHEZ -- Memorial services for Michael Craig Brown, 44, of Natchez, who died Monday, July 15, 2002, in Natchez, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation is from 2 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Brown was born icon Jan. 6, 1958, in Arlington, Va., the son of Major General Grover C. Brown USAF and Marguerite L. Brown.

He was a graduate of Trinity High School and Tulane University, receiving his bachelor of science in biochemistry, and Alcorn State University, receiving his bachelor of science nursing. He was a Presbyterian.

Survivors include his parents, Maj. (Ret.) General Grover C. Brown, USAF, and Marguerite L. Brown, both of Natchez; his former wife, Clara Nell Adams Brown; two children, Olivia Cleve Brown and Hobbs Michael Brown of Vidalia, La.; one brother, Steven L. Brown of Naples, Fla.; nephews and nieces, Sims Brown of Mansfield, La., and Justin and Anna Brown, both of Columbus; one sister, Keri Brown McClellan and her husband, John, both of Naples, and their children, Joy McClellan Hunter, Lee, Medora, Hans and Margaux McClellan, all of Naples; one sister-in-law, Nell V. Brown, and her children, Tyler F. Brown, Sara Nell Brown and Katherine "Kate" Grace Brown of Lewisville, Texas; one aunt, Dora B. Conley of Natchez; one cousin, Bill Henry Conley of Beaumont, Texas; and a number of friends.

William C. Moering

William C. Moering, 47, of Holly Springs, died March 26, 2006 at Alliance HealthCare.

Services were held at 1 p.m. on April 1 at New Hope MB Church in Laws Hill. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Charles Dooley officiated. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his mother, Roberta Moering; four brothers, Melroy Humphrey of Waterford, Danny Moering, Ralph Moering, both of Holly Springs, Willie Moering Jr. of Oxford; three sisters, Delois Calicutt, Elizabeth Martin, both of Holly Springs and Charlotte Faye Moering of Birmingham, Ala.

Loyd Russell Overall

Loyd Russell Overall, 78, of Falkner, formerly of Holly Springs, died March 31, 2006 at Baptist Hospital in Collierville, Tenn. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Holly Springs. He retired from Carrier with 29 years of service in the maintenance department. He served in the United States Army and Marine Corps during the Korean War.

Services were held at 4 p.m. on April 2 at Ripley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery in Holly Springs. Bro. Harvey Scott and Bro. Jim Pope officiated.

He leaves his wife, Frances Skelton Overall; two daughters, Debi Overall of Kodak, Tenn., Dottie Gadd of Ripley; two brothers, Edward Overall, R.L. (JR) Overall, both of Potts Camp; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Pallbearers were Charlie Skelton, Steve Skelton, Wayne Wilson, Ronnie Lewis, Rex Overall, Brandon Wilson, Jeff Rhea and Tommy Ash. Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Overall, Bud Skelton, Billy Gene Overall and Tommy Maroney.

Ervin Lee Sesley

Ervin Lee Sesley, 66, of Byhalia, died March 28, 2006 at his home. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a maintenance worker with Great Dane Trailers.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on April 1 at Mt. Zion Taska MB Church in Cayce. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Keith Pendilton officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He leaves his wife, Joyce Tipler Sesley; six children, Twoine Sesley, Rev. Ervin Sesley Jr., Bobby Myers, Dariel Jackson, David Jackson, all of Memphis, Tenn., LaTashia Bowles of Cayce; four sisters, Brenda Neal, Charlotte Neal, Julia Jones, Carolyn Schuler, all of Memphis, Tenn.; three brothers, William Myers of Walls, David Myers, Albert Myers, both of Memphis, Tenn.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were James Hatchett, Willie Miller, Lawrence Springfield, Joe Hughes, Bob Weaver and Perschall Woods.

Arlon Dwight Underwood

Arlon Dwight Underwood, 49, of Byhalia, died March 27, 2006 at Baptist DeSoto in Southaven. He was a Baptist and a carpenter.

Services were held at 2 p.m. on March 30 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Byhalia cemetery.

He leaves his wife, Kimberly Gray Underwood; three daughters, Nicola Lynn Gray Underwood of Orlando, Fla., Rhonda Leigh Brown Underwood of Houston, Tx., Shaqula Norman Underwood of Byhalia; and four brothers, John Ed Murray of Memphis, Tenn., John Wayne Murray of Bullard, Tx., Van Allen Underwood, Byron Underwood, both of Byhalia.

Pallbearers were Jeff Johnson, John Johnson, John Looney, Cedric Johnson, Wayne Kimble and Marvin Abernathy.

Bob Williams Jr.

Bob Williams Jr., 65, of Waterford, died April 2, 2006 at his home. He was an Air Force veteran of Vietnam. He was a member of First Baptist Church, and co-owner of Williams Garage.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on April 5 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery.

He leaves his wife, Bettie Gail Williams; two sons, Scott Williams of Nesbitt, Greg Williams of Memphis; three daughters, Wendy Reece, Missy Cook, Christy Williams, all of Holly Springs; two brothers, Rick Williams of Holly Springs, Timmy Williams of Red Banks; four sisters, Roseanne Williams of Houston, Earlene Story of Meridian, Shirley Jones of Talladega, Ala., Margaret Boatwright of Lucedale; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
