Graveside service was at 10 a.m. Monday, April 28 in Forest Hill South Cemetery with visitation from 5-7 p.m. April 27. WWII Army veteran, a Mason, a Moulder Man by trade and worked previously for S. R. Hungerford Manufacturing and Carlton Smith Industries. Leaves wife of 57 years, Letha D. Bailey; daughters, Sandra Montesi, Southaven; and Nancy Turner, Lakeland; sons, Scott Bailey, Parkin, Ark.; and Robert Bailey, Coldwater; sisters, Tommy Lou Bailey and Era Mae Mitchum; brother, Rufus Bailey, seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

BEARD - Elizabeth Johnston Beard, 88, Olive Branch, died April 25, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis. Member of Maples Memorial United Methodist Church. Survived by children, Tommy Lafever, Rome, Ga.; and Betty Hollowell, Olive Branch; brother, Dr. Joseph E. Johnston, Mt. Olive, Miss.; sister, Sue Thames, Biloxi, Miss.; 8 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation was from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, April 28 at Brantley Funeral Home, Olive Branch. Graveside services followed at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Holly Springs. BROOKS - Majorie Cox Brooks, 86, Olive Branch, died May 2, 2008. Member of Goodman Oaks Church of Christ, on the AGAPA Board, and past president of the Harding Academy Mother’s Club. Survived by husband of 62 years, Thomas J. Brooks; daughters, Patricia Brooks Roller, Olive Branch; Tina Brooks Moore, Arlington; sister, Martha Cox Romine, Rogersville, Ala.; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by son, Jeffery Allen Brooks. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, May 4 and services were at 12 noon May 5, both at Forest Hill Funeral Home South. Burial, Forest Hill Cemetery East.

CRUTCHER - Cottrill Crutcher Jr., 56, Memphis, died April 27, 2008,at Methodist University Hospital. Visitation was from 1-5 p.m. Friday, May 2 at Gillespie Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Hurts Chapel CME Church, Olive Branch. Burial was May 5 in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, Memphis. Leaves daughter, Sheresa Nelson, Lexington, Ky.; sons, Cottrill Crutcher III and Roderick Crutcher, both of Memphis; sisters, Mary Brown and Rosie Gillespie, both of Olive Branch; and Earnestine Brown and Gertrude Crutcher, both of Memphis; brother, Melvin Stewart, Olive Branch; and 10 grandchildren.

CUMMINGS - Mildred “Millie” Brody Cummings, 73, Olive Branch, passed away April 27, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. Avid golfer at the Wedgewood Golf Club until her illness and member of Maples Memorial United Methodist Church. Leaves husband of 53 years, Wyatt; sons, Chuck Cummings (Kaye) and Barry Cummings (Lisa); grandchildren, Dan, Sarah, Clay and Chad Cummings; sisters, Oneitta Broadway and Joycie Holbrook (Harold); brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Billy and Joan Cummings, Phil Campbell, Ala. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 at Brantley Funeral Home, Olive Branch and services were at 11 a.m. April 30 at Maples Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment, Blocker Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

DUSENBERY - Thomas J. Dusenbery, 86, Marion, Ark., died April 26, 2008, at Methodist University Hospital. Retired appliance manufacturing engineer, Navy Flight Engineer, and World War II veteran. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 and services were at 11 a.m. April 30, both at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Burial, Crittenden Memorial Park. Leaves wife, Mary Pilkington Dusenbery, Marion, Ark.; daughter, Molly Slinsky, Olive Branch; sons, Mike Dusenbery, Steve Dusenbery, and Doug Dusenbery; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

GILLIAM - Nellie Grace Hickey Gilliam, 71, Lake Cormorant, died April 30, 2008. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 1 at Hernando Funeral Home. Service was at 1 p.m. May 2 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member. Interment, Oak Grove Cemetery. Preceded in death by husband, Roy C. Gilliam. Leaves daughters, Susan Gilliam (John), Byhalia; Tonya Gill (Ron), Southaven; and Terri Johnson, Lake Cormorant; son, Joseph Gilliam (Dena), Newton, Kan.; sister, Lola Hickey Martin, Millington; sister-in-law, Frances Baker, Ripley, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. HAMLIN - Areba Dodge Hamlin, 85, Southaven, died April 29, 2008. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Preceded in death by husband, Reverend James Warden Tubbs; son, Eddie Roy Tubbs; and daughter, Alfreda Phillips. Survived by daughter, Loraine Avery, Hernando; and son, James Michael Tubbs, Memphis; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many loving relatives and friends. Service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3 with visitation an hour before at Forest Hill East Funeral Home. Burial, Forest Hill East Cemetery.

HOWE - Charles Edward Howe, 58, Hernando, passed away April 29, 2008. Services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 1 at Pate-Jones Funeral Home, Senatobia. Burial, Magnolia Cemetery, Coldwater, with military honors. Veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Europe. Preceded in death by parents, Leroy Howe and Polly Howe; sister, Rethea Michelle Howe; and brothers, Bruce Carlton Howe and Roger Dale Howe. Leaves wife, Brenda Howe, Hernando; daughter, Teresa Howe, Strayhorn; son, Neil Howe, Atoka, Tenn.; sister, Janie Marie Sanders; brother, Lance Howe, both of Conway, Ark.; and four grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to the Oak Grove Baptist Church, Hernando, where he was a member.

HUCABEE - Gladys Fortune Hucabee, 95, Horn Lake, passed away May 2, 2008, at Baptist Desoto Hospital. Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4 at Forest Hill South with visitation from 12 noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial, Forest Hill South Cemetery. Born on May 23, 1912, to John B. and Avie Pegg Fortune in Saulsbury, Tenn., and member of First Baptist Church, Horn Lake. Preceded in death by husband of 61 years, John T. Hucabee; and an infant son. Leaves sister, Catherine Dillon, Bartlett; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church, Horn Lake.

JALOMO - Juan Jalomo, 57, Olive Branch, died April 25, 2008, at Baptist DeSoto. Survived by mother, Manuela Jalomo Rosenberg, Texas; brother, Arturo (Chato) Jalomo Jr., Houston, Texas; sisters, Mary Galvan, Houston; Terry Romero, Alvin, Texas; Nora Campeau, Texas; Estella Soza, Stafford, Texas; and Alice Jalomo, Stafford; and many friends that were in his life. Preceded in death by sister, Aurora Zuniga; and brother, Mario Jalomo.

JOHNSON - Dorothy M. Johnson, 86, Memphis, passed away May 2, 2008. Member of Southaven Church of Christ. Preceded in death by husband, Charles Edward Johnson. Survived by daughters, Anna Van Seters, Brenda Culligan, both of Horn Lake; Charlene Collum, Memphis; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Visitation was 5-7 p.m. Monday, May 05 with services at 2 p.m. May 6, both at Forest Hill Funeral Home Midtown.

JONES - Thomas C. Jones, 88, Memphis, died April 29, 2008. Retired engineer with Malone and Hyde Company, WWII veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, and longtime member and choir member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Survived by wife, Virginia P. Jones; son, Thomas S. Jones, Germantown; daughter, Kathryn “Trina” Pearl, Lobelville, Tenn.; stepson, Victor Cox, Pensacola, Fla.; step-daughters, Cynthia Sims, Longwood, Fla.; Melissa Stacks, Oxford; and Venessa Singletary, Olive Branch; sister, Mary Anna Hoffman, Nashville, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving family members and friends. The family received friends from 11 a.m.-12 noon Tuesday, May 6 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with services beginning at Noon. Interment, West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. The family requests that any memorials be sent to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church or charity of the donor’s choice.

Ford Mortuary and from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. May 2 at New Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. Burial, New Park Cemetery. Preceded in death by sister, Alice O. Abrum; and brothers, Milton Sevier, Willie Jordan and Thomas Parks Jr. Leaves wife, Mary Ann Jordan; sons, Jimmy Lee Jordan Jr. and Tony D. Jordan; daughters, Mary D. Wade, Kim Taylor, and Brandy Jordan, all of Memphis; sisters, Juanita Anderson, Linda Smith, Joyce Howard, all of Memphis; Debra Smalls, Alpharetta, Ga.; and June Carol Black, Los Angeles, Calif.; brothers, Charlie Parks, David Jordan, James Jordan, and Charles Jordan, all of Memphis; aunts, Monbirdia Gary, Collierville; Lillie B. Ford, Red Banks; and Bobbie Jean McGowan, Olive Branch; 24 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

KIMBRIEL - Tom “Buddy,” Kimbriel, 74, Byhalia, retired from United States Air Force and a Baptist, died April 30, 2008. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 2. Graveside services were at 10:30 a.m. May 5 at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Survived by sister, Miriam Wheeler, Byhalia. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.

LOFTON-STEELE - Sarah Rebecca Lofton-Steele, 86, Lexington, Tenn., died May 1, 2008, at Lexington Manor Nursing Home. Preceded in death by husband, Ralph O. Steele. Survived by children, Sarah Jowers (Fred), Lexington; Gary Lofton Brenda, Southaven; step-daughter, Ann Gary; step-son, Jerry Steele; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at Pafford Funeral Home Chapel. Burial, Lexington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Fairview Church of Christ in Lexington.

MCINGVALE - Virginia C. Mcingvale, Hernando, died April 28, 2008. She had lived her 96 years in DeSoto County, attended Hernando School, many days in a horse and buggy, worked in the Chancery Clerk’s office, member of the Eastern Star, UMW, and past member of the Hernando Garden Club. Preceded in death by husband, Herbert McIngvale; and grandson, John H. Gartrell. Leaves son, Wesley A. McIngvale (Letrice), Batesville; son, George S. McIngvale (Elaine), Coldwater; daughter, Ginger Gartrell (Albert), Walls; grandchildren, Jim McIngvale, Pascagoula, Miss.; George S. McIngvale II, Haley McIngvale, Sara Swindle and Alex McIngvale, all of Hernando; Jenny Gartrell, Lake Cormorant; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 30 at the Hernando United Methodist Church, where she was a life long member. Burial, old part of the Hernando Cemetery.

PARKER - Vergie Parker, 92, Southaven, passed away April 29, 2008. Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at Forest Hill South. Burial, Forest Hill South Cemetery. Retired after 30 years from Bemis Bag Company, previously worked for Wal-Mart in Southaven, and member of Berea Baptist Church, Horn Lake. Preceded in death by husband, Jack Parker. Leaves daughter, Bobbie Neeley, Southaven; grandson, James Neeley (Annette); grandchildren, Kevin, Kenny, Tonya and Jennifer Crisler; and six great-grandchildren.

RITTER - Dolores Spradling Ritter, 69, Cordova, passed away April 26, 2008. Retired teacher with the Memphis City Schools, serving a long tenure at Carver High School and finished her career at Northside High School. Survived by husband, Michael Ritter; children, Alan Spradling, Horn Lake; Bryan Baker, Bartlett; and Lynne Hughes, Olive Branch; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 at Forest Hill South Funeral Home. Service was held at 1 p.m. April 30 at Longstreet United Methodist Church. SARTER - John Sarter, 75, Walls, died April 26, 2008. Born Feb. 7, 1933, in Harrisburg, Ark., barber on staff for the University of Notre Dame, used car dealer in Phoenix, Ariz., spent last 10 years with Control Security in Phoenix, was a Baptist, and Navy veteran. Survived by wife of 22 years, Mary Sarter; sons, John Michael Sarter (Jacque); and Charles David Sarter (Glenda); step-sons, Bernie Ross (Natalie); and Brian Ross (Karen); step-daughters, Kimberly Lushine, Diana Ross, and Debra Thomas (Jim); sisters, Lena Cole, Mary Farrow, Gladys Clifton, and Geraldine McKeown; 18 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, John and Ida Sarter; and daughter, Karen Majors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

SINGLETON - Barbara Jean McBee Singleton, 74, Memphis, died May 3, 2008. Born to Barbara Konz McBee and John Madison McBee on April 10, 1934, past president of Ladies of Charity, past treasurer of Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and of Cenacle Retreat League, dedicated to St. Anne Catholic Church Highland for 45 years, and member of the Altar Society. Survived by husband, Robert Lee Singleton, Memphis; daughters, Beth Nolan Mormino, Olive Branch; and Paula Gurien, Memphis; sons, Gil Nolan and Robby Nolan, both of Memphis; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Monday, May 5 with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Canale Funeral Directors. Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. May 6 at St. Anne Catholic Church on Highland. Burial, Calvary Cemetery.

SUDDUTH - Robert Yates Sudduth, 79, Southaven, passed away April 27, 2008. Born and grew up in Greenwood, Miss., member of First Baptist Church, Nesbit, Army veteran of the Korean War, a mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, retired from Memphis Light Gas and Water after 30 years, served as a volunteer fireman with the Nesbit Fire Department for many years, and also served on the board of the Nesbit Water Association. Preceded in death by parents, Mead J. Sudduth and Myrtle S. Sudduth; sister, Mary Virginia Sudduth Powell; brothers, Billy S. Sudduth, Warren G. Sudduth; and grandchildren, Rachel Stephanie Gross and Jeremiah Robert Gross. Survived by wife, Dorothy Smith Sudduth; daughters, Deborah Sudduth and Brenda Sudduth Gross (Buddy); sister, Sue Sudduth Waddell; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 at Twin Oaks Funeral Home, Southaven. Services were at 1 p.m. April 30 at the funeral home. Burial, Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens, Southaven.
