Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home.

WOODVILLE - Services for Kenneth Rashal Singleton , 44, of LaPlace, La., who died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at River Parish Hospital in LaPlace, La., will be Saturday at Singleton Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Elery officiating.
Burial will be in the Cedar Rest cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today at Cooper-Glapion Funeral Home in New Orleans, La.
Mr. Singleton was born
Mar. 17, 1960, in Adams County, the son of Ethel Green and Ed Singleton.
He was a 1978 graduate of Wilkinson County High School. He was an operation manager and a member of Singleton Chapel Baptist Church. He also served in the United States Marine Corps.
He is preceded in death by one daughter, Faith Destinee; his parents, Charles and Ethel Singleton and Forest Lemon; godfather, Clarence Jackson.
Survivors include his wife, Angela Rena Slan of LaPlace, La.; one son, Kenneth Singleton, Jr. of LaPlace; two daughters, Brishaun Singleton and Ashley Anderson, both of New Orleans, La.; mother, Tracy Lemon; mother-in-law, Annie Mary Slan of Woodville; one sister, Johnnie Woodfork of Woodville; two brothers, Ronnie (Cathy) Singleton of New Orleans, La., and Keith W. (LaKesha) Jones of Natchez; two god-sons, Christopher Russ and Rodney Boyd, Jr.; god-mother, Sophronia Jackson; one god-brother, Forest Gibbs; one god-sister, Jalaica Arbuthnot; four sister-in-laws, Vernice Slan, Andra Boyd, Cathy Singleton, and Lakesha Jones; two brother-in-laws, Rodney Boyd, Sr., and Lee A. Slan, III; a special aunt-in-law, Priscilla Slan of Woodville; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Segrest was born
Nov. 9, 1919, in Union Church, the daughter of James Bailey Stroud and Josie Buie Stroud.
She was a retired seamstress for a garment factor and was a member of Union Church Baptist Church.
Mrs. Segrest was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert O. Segrest Sr.; one brother; and one son, Robert O. Segrest Jr.
Survivors include five daughters, Marie Clark of Ruth, Josie Alice Rushing, Jonnie Taylor and Mattie Huff, all of Union Church, and Virginia Segrest of Natchez; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mattie Mosley of Mobile, Ala.; and one sister-in-law, Velma Stroud of Greenville.

Walter Lee Crawford

NATCHEZ -- Services for Walter Lee Crawford, 86, of Natchez, who died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at his residence, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dayna Goff officiating.
Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home on Union Street and from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.
Mr. Crawford was born
in Noxapater, on March 5, 1918, the son of the late Lee Emerson Crawford and Sarah Caroline Gunn Crawford.
He attended Holmes Junior College and Delta State College. He then was called to serve in the 491st Bomb Squadron of the 14th Air Force of the Army during World War II, where he was stationed in Kunming, China, and flew over "The Hump."
He retired from Ashland Pipe Co. and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, wehre he taught the adult Sunday school class faithfully for many years.
He was also a Gideon and spread the word of God to children.
Mr. Crawford loved to grow vegetables in his garden and shared with all. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was soon to be a great-grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Marion Guyton Crawford; three daughters, Sarah Ann MacManus and her husband, Peter, both of Raleigh, N.C., Jeanne Ballard and her husband, Gary, both of Dripping Springs, Texas, and Ginger Crawford Evans of Natchez; seven grandchildren, Jonas Monast, Heather Monast, Kai Monast, Adair Nelson and her husband, Alan, Sarah Jeanne Evans, Caroline Ballard and Katy Ballard; and one brother, Sterling Crawford, and his wife, Laura V., both of Aberdeen.
Pallbearers will be Jonas Monast, Kai Monast, Peter MacManus, Gary Ballard, Floyd McCalip, Julian Delaughter, Henry Sanders and Fleet Jones.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Grace United Methodist Church Men's Club.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Grace United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

Mr. Thomas was born
Dec. 24, 1922, in Jefferson County, the son of Louie J. and Vida Smith Thomas.
He was a retired maintenance foreman for the National Park Service.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ray S. Thomas; and one sister, Zadie Harrigill.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis M. Thomas; two sons, Eugene L. Thomas and his wife, Sheri, both of Mexico, and Russell G. Thomas and his wife, Pam, both of Bentonia; two stepsons, John Philip Schlimper and his wife, Charlotte, both of San Augustine, Texas, and Paul Schlimper and his wife, Kathy, both of Elgin, Texas; six sisters, Myrtis McManus and Louvenia Patrick, both of Terry, Myrtle Payne of Biloxi, Zanie Anderson of King City, Calif., and Billy Ruth Herring and Nancy Breland, both of Pearl; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Jewel L. Thomas

Dr. D. Clayton James
Dr. D. Clayton James, 73, of Moneta, Va., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at Avante at Lynchburg Nursing Center.
Dr. James was an expert on World War II strategy with nine books to his credit. He received international acclaim with his three-volume biography, The Years of MacArthur, the last volume of which earned the Truman Book Award in 1986 and nominations for both the Pulitzer and Parkman prizes. born
in Winchester, Kentucky, he made his home since early childhood in Natchez, Mississippi, with his closest relatives, the late N.W. Bankstons and their daughter, Dorris.
Dr. James graduated from Rhodes College (formerly Southwestern at Memphis) in 1953 and earned his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Texas. He received a B.D. degree from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and spent eight years as a Naval Reserve Chaplain. He held the Harold K. Johnson Chair of Military History at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania and the John F. Morrison Chair of Military History at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in Leavenworth, Kansas. A former Harmon Lecturer at the U.S. Air Force Academy, he was a Fellow of the Society of American Historians and was awarded the highest Civilian Medal for Distinguished Service by the Department of the Army in 1996.
After 23 years at Mississippi State University, where he was frequently recognized for distinguished teaching and research, Dr. James held VMI's first John Biggs Cincinnati Chair in Military History. He leaves his former administrative assistant, Anne Sharp Wells of Lexington.
Of all his achievements, it was his family that brought him the greatest joy. Besides his wife, Erlene of Moneta, VA, he wanted each of his four adult children to know how proud he was of them individually, as well as his eleven grandchildren.
In lieu of a formal memorial service, the family will receive friends at their home.
