Margaret Couch Barry

NATCHEZ - Memorial services for Margaret Couch Barry, 90, who died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, in Natchez, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at First Presbyterian Church, in Stratton Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. John Larsen officiating.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
Mrs. Barry was born
July 5, 1914, in Houston, Miss., the daughter of the late William Gilbert and Louisa Mae Earnest Couch.
She was a life long resident of Mississippi where her family settled before 1917. She was a member of the Natchez Garden Club and the First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Barry was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Barry; a brother, Theo Couch; two sisters, Frances Barnes and Mae Helen Abraham; a brother-in-law, Seggie Barnes; a sister-in-law, Catherine Couch; and a great-granddaughter, Candy Elizabeth Ross.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Helen Elizabeth (Beth) and Sam Geisenberger and Barbara Ann and Leon (Buddy) Rhodes; three grandchildren, Margaret Rhodes (Karl III) Ewald, Leon Barry (Rhonda) Rhodes and Julia Elizabeth Cox; four great-grandchildren, Ryan Barry Rhodes, Karl Raymond Ewald IV, Andrew Rhodes Ewald and Caroline Grace Rhodes; one brother-in-law, the Rev. Nick Abraham; one cousin, Upton Couch; and a number of nieces, nephews and their families.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church building fund.
Dennis Otis
BASSFIELD - Services for Dennis Otis, 75, of New Orleans, La., who died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at Baton Rouge Burn Center, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holly Springs CME Church in Bassfield.
Burial will follow at Wheeler cemetery in Bassfield under the direction of Littlejohn Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Dorothy York
Jan. 30, 1932 - Sept. 2, 2004
NATCHEZ - Services for Dorothy "Lee-Greene" York, 72, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian Hope Baptist Church with Elder Johnny Ray Jackson officiating.
Burial will follow at Pine Hill cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
The procession will leave at 10 a.m. Saturday from 148 Lewis Drive.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mrs. York was born
Jan. 30, 1932, in Natchez, the daughter of John and Eliza Greene.
She was a retired nurse's assistant. She first served at Providence Baptist Church and later joined Prayer Tower Church of God in Christ under the leadership of her husband, Elder Dave York Sr. She was also a mother and a faithful member.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Dave York Sr.; son, Dave (Rose) York Jr.; daughters, Glenda Thomas, Vera (Ronald) Dunmore of Natchez, Verna (Larry) Armstrong of Jackson, Sheila (Stan) Wilson of Montgomery, Ala., Shirley Johnson of Jonesboro, GA and Patricia (Gregory) Tillman of Natchez; brothers, John (Betty) Greene Jr. and Robert (Carrie) Greene, all of Natchez; 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; special sister, Rosie Bethley of St. Louis, Mo.; special friends, Ida B. Johnson and Dorothy Knight, both of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Samuel King, Leroy Miles, LeAndrew McCullum, Sammie Brown, Melvin Tillman and Dewon Lewis.
Kenneth (Baby) Charles Odom Jr.

PORT GIBSON - Services for Kenneth (Baby) Charles Odom Jr., 39, of Port Gibson, who died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian Chapel Church of Port Gibson with the Rev. Lonnie O'Quinn officiating.
Burial will follow at Thompson cemetery in Port Gibson under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home of Port Gibson.
Visitation is from noon to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Odom was born
Aug. 18, 1965, the son of Kenneth Charles Odom Sr. and Octavia Chambers Odom.
He was a member of Christian Chapel Church.
Survivors include his father, Kenneth Charles Odom Sr.; his mother, Octavia Chambers Odom; one son, Anajji Odom of Port Gibson; one daughter, Jonique Baker; two brothers, Windell Odom of Port Gibson and Devel Odom of Hermanville; one sister, Marilyn Odom Williams of Port Gibson; seven uncles, Curtis Chambers, John F. Chambers, both of Chicago, Ill., Wardell Odom of Jackson, Michael Chambers Sr., Eddie Chambers, both of Port Gibson, Rev. Walter Chambers of Fayette and Larry Chambers of Dansbury, Conn.; 12 aunts, Gladys Dixon of Lorman, Brenda Chambers, Rose Ann Odom, Gloria W. Chambers, all of Port Gibson, Beatrice McGee, Jackie Chambers, both of Chicago, Ruby McCarly, Renee Chambers, both of Dansbury, Alice Odom of Jackson, Ruth Ann Odom of Mount Bayou, Laura Carter of Vicksburg and Willa Chambers of Fayette; three nieces, Kitwanga Wilson of Atlanta, Ga., Germany Odom, Keundra Odom, both of Port Gibson; two nephews, Jacque Odom of Port Gibson and Devel Odom Jr. of Hermanville; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Gloria Mae Jackson

NATCHEZ - Services for Gloria Mae Jackson, 55, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, at her residence, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Moses Baptist Church with the Rev. Luther Barnes officiating.
Burial will follow at Egypt Baptist Church cemetery under the direction of Webb Funeral System.
Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon until service time Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Jackson was born
May 18, 1949, in Natchez, the daughter of Richard Green and the late Angeline Smith.
She was employed with the Adams County Youth Court until her death. During her tenure, she supervised youth in countless hours of community service. Her work with troubled youth included tutoring, teaching, parenting classes, fundraising and teaching job skills. She was the founder of the H.U.G.S. (Helping Us Grow Stronger) program in 1997. She served as volunteer coordinator since 1998 and was also assistant director of the CASA program. Mrs. Jackson devoted herself to improve Natchez by improving the lives of the youth that she served in Adams County. She loved her job and made an impact on all the lives she touched.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her loving husband, Gregory Jackson of Natchez; he son, Lamark Hargraves; three daughters, Paulette Shinard (Kenneth Shinard/Larry Ross), Angelina Jolie Jackson and Gloria M. Bolton, all of Natchez; four grandchildren, Gloria Jackson, Jerry Shinard, Brandon Shinard and Mirical Ross; sister, Georgia Beauford; mother-in-law, Virginia Jackson; eight brothers-in-law, Charles, Melvin, Issac, Michael Jr. of Chicago, Ill., Calvin, Anthony of Natchez and Steve Jackson of Virginia; one sister-in-law, Sharon Davis of Houston, Texas; two step-children, Tishina Jackson of Toledo, Ohio and Albert D. Jackson of Cleveland, Ohio; special friend and sister, Leminda J. Pierre; three nieces, Anglina Beauford, Carla Beauford and Tori Anderson; two nephews, Willie James Beauford and William Julian.

Mrs. Tyler was born
Aug. 8, 1926, in Adams County, the daughter of Jimmy Reynolds and Josephine Wilson.
She was a Baptist.
Survivors include two sons, Terry (Patty) Harts and Carl (Gloria) Edwards Sr.; three sisters, Kitty Hendricks, Willie Mae Ross and Ruth Harris; three brothers, Cleveland Reynolds, James (Evelyn) Mazique, Howard (Janet) Stewart; eight grandchildren, Malcolm Harts and Amber Harts of Baton Rouge, La., Damien K. Evans, Charlette White, Kay Synagogue, all of Kenner, La., Alex Edwards of LaPlaza, La., Carl J. (C.J.) Edwards Jr. and Tristikar Edward, both of Utah; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Rev. Keith Charles Shumway
March 7, 1927 - Sept. 7, 2004
OTTAWA, Kan. - Services for the Rev. Keith Charles Shumway, 77, of Ottawa, Kan., who died Tuesday, September 7, 2004, at Brandon Woods in Lawrence, Kan., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Ottawa with the Rev. Merle Davis officiating.
Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Rev. Shumway was born
March 7, 1927, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Charles William and Leona "Pauline" (Pullins) Shumway.
He attended schools in the Oklahoma City, Okla. area and graduated from the Guthrie Masonic Children's Home in Guthrie, Okla. He was accepted into the Navy V12 program and sent to ouisiana Polytech University at Ruston, La. Rev. Shumway then transferred to Duke University where he attained his Bachelor of Science degree.
After graduating from Duke University he joined the Navy, during World War II, and was commissioned an Ensign. Rev. Shumway was flown to Guam where he was assigned to an amphibious ship evacuating Marines from north China. He later transferred to a destroyer and after two and half years he resigned his regular commission as Lieutenant Jr. Grade and transferred to the inactive Naval Reserves where he served ten years. Upon receiving his honorable discharge from the Navy he attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge for one year before being accepted at the Federated Theological Faculty of the University of Chicago in Chicago, Ill. where he was ordained.
In 1961, Rev. Shumway accepted an appointment as head of the history and political science department at Ottawa University. He was also instrumental in the development of the Ottawa University; College without Campus later renamed Ottawa University-Kansas City. Rev. Shumway was also the Dean of Ottawa University and the Vice President for Academic Affairs until his retirement in 1984. After his retirement, he worked as a civilian contractor running a computer center for the Marine Corps Reserves for five years until his retirement in 1989.
On April 17, 1948, he was united in marriage to Bettie Sue White in Sicily Island, La. They shared over 57 years of marriage.
Rev. Shumway was a member of the Skilton Music Club, Orchid Society, Kansas Retired Teachers Association and the AARP. In his earlier years, he was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge and Master Counselor of DeMolay. He was also active in Rotary and a leader of the Christian Endeavor Society.
Rev. Shumway is survived by his wife, Bettie Sue; one son, Mark Shumway of Ottawa; three daughtrs, Susan Shumway of Basehor, Kan., Wanda Temm of Overland Park, Kan., and Polly (John) McCall of Ottawa. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and one brother, Robert Shumway of Vidalia, La.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Paul andd Harry Shumway and Richard Sturgis.

Rona Sue Mason

NATCHEZ - Private memorial services for Rona Sue Mason, 64, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Mason was born
March 21, 1940, in Brookhaven, the daughter of Willie and Edna Earl Walker West.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Mason of Biloxi, Gina Mason of Baton Rouge, La. and Sara Renee Mason of Raymond and one sister, Betty Jean Barnes of El Dorado, Ark.

Inez Tillotson
MCCALL CREEK - Services for Inez Tillotson, 84, of McCall Creek, who died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004 at her residence, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Meadville.
Burial will be in New Salem Church cemetery in McCall Creek under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home.
William Haywood Whitley

BAY MINETTE, Ala. - Services for William Haywood Whitley, 94, of Bay Minette, Ala., who died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004 at North Baldwin Infirmary, will be 10:30 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in the Bay Minette cemetery under the direction of Norris Funeral Home.
Mr. Whitley was retired from International Paper Company. He served in World War II. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is preceded in death by his sisters, Natalie (George) Feulner and Malena Mae (Dood) Whitley.
Survivors include his wife, O'Byrne J. Whitley; two daughters, Carolyn (Chuck) Norman of Mobile, Ala.. and Dianne (Butch) McKenzie of Brewton, Ala.; one son, Haywood Whitley of Vidalia, La.; seven grandchildren, Tiffany (Mark) Chapman, Brandy (John) McAnnally, Whitley Ann Norman, all of Mobile, Ala., Mandy (Chris) Smith and Lance McKenzie, both of Brewton, Ala., Emily Whitley and Meredith Whitley, both of Monroe, La.; five great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Mrs. Johnson was born
June 26, 1944, in Summit, the daughter of Exlenia Wilson and Leon Johnson Sr. She was a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her mother and a brother, Leon Johnson Jr.
Survivors include a daughter, Danielle Johnson; five sons, Troy Johnson, Vince Johnson, Kacy Johnson, Samuel Johnson and Stekling Leon Johnson; three brothers, Roosevelt (Ann) Johnson of Natchez, Edward Johnson of New Orleans and Eugene (Tina) Bruce Jr. of Natchez; five sisters, Mattie McKnight, Rosemary (Joe) Freeman of Orland Park, Ill., Eula (Rick) of Natchez, Gwendolyn F. Watson (Marvin) of Natchez; 16 grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
