Emma Ann Haislip, 62, of Hurley, Miss., died March 24, 2004, in Pascagoula. She was born
May 19, 1940, in Cresswell, N.C. Mrs. Haislip operated the Jiffy Burger in Hurley from 1988 to 1992. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Jason Downs Sr. and Mrs. Inez Downs; sister, Mrs. Peggy Novak; and two brothers, Mr. Calvin Downs and Mr. JC Downs.
JACKSON
Mr. Joseph Alphonse Jackson, 68, was born
in Pascagoula, Miss., on April 26, 1935, to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Jackson. Joe entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 13, 2004.
NORVELL
Missionary Isabelle Smith Norvell passed into eternal rest on Thursday morning, April 15, 2004, following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harding Norvell; her parents, Walter and Ella Smith; a daughter, Ramona Jones; five brothers, Warner, "Buster, " Curtis, Lawrence and Nollie; and five sisters, Candis, Laura, Mamie, Ger-trude and Delia.
WILLIAMSON
Linda Ann Price Williamson, 53, of Pascagoula, Miss., passed away peacefully on April 15, 2004, at her home in Pascagoula, Miss., surrounded by her family and friends.

Master Jacob Wyatt Gray of Cape May, N.J., infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Gray, died April 9, 2004, in Philadelphia, Pa.
MCLELLAND
Grace Garreau McLelland, 95, of Hattiesburg, Miss., died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Rolling Acres Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and a member of Parkway Heights United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Creed McLelland Sr.; and one son, Charles Creed McLelland Jr.
SMITH
Clayton Waite (Snuffy) Smith Cmdr. USN, Ret., 84, of Pascagoula, Miss., died Monday, April 12, 2004, at River Chase Village Nursing Home in Gautier, Miss. He was born
March 19, 1920, in Bellevue, Pa., and was raised in Schenectady, N.Y. Cmdr. Smith was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Pascagoula, Miss. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md. in 1943, and retired in 1967 as full commander. During his naval career, Snuffy commanded the USS Skagit, the USS Catamount and the Flotilla One. Later he was employed by Rockwell Industries in the space program then by Litton Industries, transferring to Pascagoula in 1971 and retiring in 1986.

ALEXANDER
Emma Lee Green Alexander, 79, a former resident of Moss Point, Miss., died Saturday, April 10, 2004 in Anderson, S.C. born
March 13, 1925 in Kreole, Miss., she was a graduate of Spartanburg Junior College, the first woman to attend Wofford College, a graduate of Limstone College, and received her master's degree from Clemson University. She was a retired schoolteacher, and member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Anderson, S.C. She was the widow of Rev. Robert L. Alexander, and the daughter of the late Lamar Hess and Nona Roberts Green. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Austin Alexander and a sister, Ellen Virginia "Bobbie" Wilks.

LEWIS
Clifton Willis Lewis, 55, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at his home in Petal, Miss., after a long struggle with colon cancer. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held starting at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 1, at the Lewis family home on Skull Creek Road in Greene County, Miss., where he was born. He donated his body to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for medical research.

SIMS
Mr. William Franklin Sims, 86, of Wade, Miss., died April 11, 2004, in Pascagoula. He was born
on Feb. 26, 1918, in Neshoba County, Miss. Mr. Sims was a dedicated member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Pascagoula, and served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was retired shipfitter from Ingalls Shipbuilding.

Ava Rose Havard Cook, 82, of Lucedale, Miss., died Thurs. April 8, 2004. She was born
Sept. 14, 1921, in George County, Miss. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
CRANFORD
Joyce W. Cranford, 62, of Hattiesburg, Miss., died Monday, March 29, 2004 at Wesley Medical Center. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pascagoula.
HICKS
Alice "Betty" Brown Hicks, 89, passed away April 1, 2004 at Kettering Memorial Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Hazel Brown; her devoted husband of 61 years, George Hicks, MD; and their son, Mark Hicks. Betty attended college at DePauw University and Spring Hill College and worked as a newspaper reporter for the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette and the Evening Star in Auburn, Ind. She taught in public and private schools in Pascagoula, Miss., and Christiansted, St. Croix, USVI and managed her husband's medical office. In her free time Betty wrote poetry and short stories and was a published poet and author. She was founder of Writers Unlimited in Pascagoula, board member of the Alabama Writer's Conclave, life member of the Poetry Society of Texas and a member of the Alabama State Poetry Society and Mississippi State Poetry Society. Her civic work included being a 4-H leader and member of the Board of South Mississippi Festival of Arts and Jackson County Fair Board, all in Pascagoula, Miss.
LYLE
Mrs. Mary Lynn Fortenberry Lyle, age 72, of Ocean Springs, Miss., died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, in Pascagoula, Miss. Mrs. Lyle was born
in Pinola, Miss., and was a resident of Ocean Springs since 1970. She loved people, fishing, and playing slots. She also loved her children and grandchildren and will be terribly missed by all those who knew her. Mrs. Lyle was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Lyle, a son, Burkett Fortenberry, a sister, Ella Merle Brown, and brothers, Charles W. Millis and James W. Ware.

Mr. Jerry Martin, 52, of Ocean Springs, Miss., died Wed., April 7, 2004 in Ocean Springs. Jerry was born
in July 10, 1951 in Gadsden, Ala. He was the owner and operator of Prestige Plastering Inc.
RAMAGE
Ruth Ramage, 87, a native of Fayette County, Ala., and resident of Pascagoula, Miss., died Fri., April 9, 2004. Ms. Ramage cared for the elderly for many years as an independent sitter.
SMITH
Mrs. Novella Eloise Andrews Smith was born
in Monroeville, Ala., on April 26, 1932, to the late Mary Ethel Stallworth Andrews and Tiny Andrews Sr. She joined in marriage to Mr. Thomas Earl Smith Sr. on June 7, 1952. Together they raised 17 children and two grandchildren. She dedicated her life to being a housewife, raising her children and grandchildren. She was a loyal and faithful member of The Refuge Church of Jesus Christ. She departed from us on Thurs., April 8, 2004, at the age of 71 years old.
SUTHERLAND
Coralie Sutherland, 95, widow of Rev. Benjamin Sutherland, a longtime leader in the Mississippi Methodist Church, died Fri., April 9, 2004, at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, Miss. She died of pneumonia and kidney failure. She was a prominent figure in music in Mississippi for decades.
HOLSTON
Mr. Harry Lloyd Holston Sr., 69, of Big Point, Miss., died April 8, 2004 in Big Point. He was born
Nov. 28, 1934 in Wayne County, Miss. Mr. Holston served his nation in the U.S. Navy. He was retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding Systems as a weight engineer. Mr. Holston is a member of Family Life Church where he had a strong faith in the Lord. He was also a member of the Society of Weight Engineers and an avid gardener. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Alma Holston; brothers and sisters.

Mr. Jerry Martin, 52, of Ocean Springs, Miss., died April 7, 2004 in Ocean Springs. Jerry was born
July 10, 1951, in Gadsden, Alabama. He was a subcontractor of Prestige Plastering, Inc. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and sisters.

Dianna Gail Powell, 50, of Gautier, Miss., died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at University Hospital, Jackson, Miss. She was born
June 8, 1953, in Centralia, Ill. She was a lab technician at Singing River Hospital, and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Powell, and her father, Mr. McCormick.
