Arzelda Britton Flora, MS Arzelda Britton, age 84, of Flora died, Sunday, August 8, 2010 at St. Dominic’s - Jackson Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 14, 2010 in the chapel of Natchez Trace Funeral Home with the visitation from 1:00 PM until service time. Burial will follow in Natchez Trace Memorial Park. Mrs. Britton is a native of Noel, Missouri and formerly of Jackson and was a resident of Flora, MS since 1979. She was a former member of the Four Seasons Homemakers Club. Mrs. Britton always believed that “where there is a will there is a way” and graduated from High School at the age of 21 and continued her education to receive her L.P.N. before her marriage to Mr. E. Earl Britton. Survivors include her husband E. Earl Britton of Flora, MS; her son, Nathan Britton of Flora; her two daughters, Virginia Britton of Jefferson City Missouri and Jewel Britton of Flora; a brother, Charles McDaneld of Jay, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Emmitt LaVon Edwards of Flora and Kenneth James Allen of Jefferson City, Missouri and four great grand children, Angel Brookleigh Edwards, Von Ray Edwards, Summer Sky Allen and Connor James Allen.

Bill Brice

Bill Brice Madison, MS William “Bill” Brice, 55, died Wednesday August 11, 2010 at his home in Madison, MS. Visitation is Friday August 13, 2010 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison from 5pm until 7pm and again Saturday 1 hour prior to the 11am chapel funeral. Interment will be at Natchez Trace Memorial Park cemetery. Bill was a native of Memphis, TN and the son of the late James Hamlin Brice and the late Jean Bostick Brice. Mr. Brice and his family lived in Vicksburg, MS for 18 years before moving to Madison in 2002. He had recently retired from Entergy and enjoyed motorcycles, reading, fishing and John Wayne movies. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Terri Brice of Madison; sons, Jake Brice and wife Amanda Brice of Baton Rouge, LA., John Brice and wife Amanda Brice of Reno, NV and Jim Brice of Porterdale, GA.; sister, Carol Dial of Plano, TX; and brother, Steve Brice of Southaven, MS. Edwin L. Abernathy

Mr. Edwin “Ed” L. Abernathy, 54, passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at UMC in Jackson. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 14, 2010 from 3pm-4pm at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison. A funeral service will follow visitation at 4pm. Interment will be in New Prospect cemetery in Pelahatchie. Mr. Abernathy is preceded in death by his father, James L. Abernathy and brother, Marty Abernathy. Ed is survived by his daughter, Chelsea Sasser and husband Ben; son, Mac Abernathy and wife Karen; mother, Helen Howell; brother, James M. “Mike” Abernathy; and granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Ivy.

William Travis Smith

Mr. William Travis Smith, 71, passed away the Sonny Montgomery VA Hospital in Jackson on Friday, August 13, 2010. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 16, 2010 from 12pm – 2pm at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 2pm following visitation. Interment will be in Natchez Trace Memorial Park cemetery. Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter, Theresa Rasmusson; mother, Clara Mae Lawalin; sister, Cheryl Ann Siroshton; brothers, Albert Davis, Jr., James Davis and Timmy Davis; grandchildren, JT Miller and Joseph Miller; ex-wife, Betty Fay Palmer Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Eva Joyce Harrison

Eva Joyce Harrison, 77, passed away at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson on Friday, August 13, 2010. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held in the chapel at First Baptist Church-Madison on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 10:30AM. Ms. Harrison was a native of Arcola, MS. and the daughter of the late Clyde C. Carraway and the late Eva McMaster Carraway. She loved to read and made beautiful handwork. She read the newspaper on a daily bases. She worked with the deaf and provided sign interpretation at churches. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Madison. Survivors include her children, Vicki Joy Barden, Mitchell Harrison, Paul Harrison, Charles Harrison, and Carolyn Campbell; sisters, Margaret Johnson and Charlotte Knight; brother, Clyde Luther Carraway; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital.

David Keith Stewart

Mr. David “Dago” Keith Stewart, 45, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Fort Hood Military Base in Killeen, Texas. Visitation will be on Friday, August 20, 2010 from 5pm – 8pm at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home with a visitation held from 9:30am – 11am. Interment will be in Natchez Trace Memorial Park cemetery. David earned his Bachelor Degree in Fire Science Investigation and a minor degree in Criminal Law from Eastern Kentucky University. He also earned a graduate degree in Forensic Science under the teachings of Dr. Henry Lee from University of New Haven in Connecticut. David loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed gardening and was even known to enhance his army barracks at Fort Hood by planting grass. He grew tomatoes on the Eastern Kentucky campus while attending school. David was also an accomplished carpenter and enjoyed creating gifts for his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Max Stewart and his grandparents, Bill and Estelle Stewart and John Herbert and Lorene Blough and by his uncle, Paul C. Pitts. David is survived by his mother, Bettye Blough Stewart; brother, Max Bryan Stewart; sister, Tina Stewart McDonald and husband, Larry; nephews, Eddie Stewart and Ben McDonald and wife Lori; nieces, ReBecca and Jessica McDonald; aunts and uncles, Ivan and Dot Cunningham, Tommy and Tubby Pickering, Mamie Pitts, Gary and Dolly Belk and Gary and Kathy Stewart; cousins, Helena, Jay and Lawson Pickering, Paul “Bo” and John Herbert Pitts, Jackie Brooks, Karen Grzanich and Kevin Stewart, Randy Belk and Tammy Morrison. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Madison Volunteer Fire Department, French Camp Academy or the charity of your choice.

Richard Vesey Madison, MS Richard Vesey, 47, passed away Saturday August 21, 2010 in Madison. Visitation will be 4:00 – 5:00pm Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison with a 5pm memorial service celebrating his life. Richard was the son of the late Dave Vesey and the late Betty Metzner Vesey. A native of Virginia, Richard and his wife of 23 years, Karen, moved to Madison in 2006. He was the owner of K.C. Site Clean Up and enjoyed biking, golf and helping others. He is survived by his wife Karen Vesey; siblings, Pete and Fritz Vesey and Heidi Vesey; father and mother-in-law, Walter and Betty Breede; brothers-in-law, Mark, David and Erik Breede and sister-in-law, Anne-Marie Rowe. Maury H. Strain Jackson, MS Maury H. Strain, 48, passed away Monday August 23, 2010 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Visitation for family and friends will be 4:00 – 6:00pm Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison with a 6pm memorial service celebrating his life. Maury was born icon October 28, 1961 in Greenwood to Drue E. Strain, Jr. and Martha Lishman Strain. He grew up in Greenville, MS and later moved to Jackson, MS. He was employed at Applied Industrial Technology until his health required his retirement. He was preceded in death by his father, Drue E. Strain, Jr. Survivors include his mother, Martha L. Strain; sisters, Rebecca S. Oakman and Madelyn S. Montjoy; brothers, Drue “Dickie” Strain, III and Craig L. Strain and wife Susan; aunt, Reba Strain Cole; nephews, Mike Carollo, Jr. and Robb Oakman; nieces, Ashley Montjoy, Rebecca Montjoy and Sarah Drue Strain and cousins. Ralph Romaine

Ralph Romaine Ridgeland Ralph Phillip Romaine was born icon on April 28, 1945 to the late Walter J. and Rhodenia Romain in Pascagoula, MS. Ralph departed this life on August 23, 2010 in Jackson, MS at the age of 65. After a short military career Ralph moved to Detroit, MI and was employed by General Motors. After he retired from General Motors Ralph moved back to Mississippi where he married icon Sedley Haydel on April 23, 1990. He was employed by Pass Christian Isles Golf Club, Levi Strauss (Retired) and Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA). Ralph was preceded in death by his father, mother, five brothers and grandparents. Ralph leaves to cherish his memories his wife of twenty years Sedley, daughter Nicole Atkins, sons Ralph Romain Jr, Eric Romain, Anthony Romain, Tarren Funchess, Kevin Funchess, Christopher Dorsey, brothers Joseph Romain, Michael Romain and Ricky Romain, sisters Delores Romain, Jean Romain, Joyce Pope and Christine Romain, 14 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Ralph also leave behind his best Friends Joseph and Wanda Piernas along with a host of nieces, nephew and friends and his two loyal companions Maki and Scooterbug. Memorial Mass will be held 11:00am, Saturday, August 28, 2010, at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, 222 East Railroad St. Pass Christian, Mississippi 39571. Miss Victoria Camille Cosper, 18, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at home. Camille was known by her numerable friends for her vivacious personality, extraordinary kindness, and her generosity of spirit. Her seemingly endless wit left even distant strangers enamored. She will always be remembered as the friend who lit up a room with her dazzling smile and forever missed by her loving family. Camille is survived by her mother, Ange'le Taylor; father, Charles Cosper Jr. and wife Traci; brother, James Carlisle Carr III; step sister, Elizabeth Payne; maternal grandmother Margo Taylor; maternal great grandmother, Estella Fortenberry; paternal grandparents, Charles Cosper Sr. and Marilyn Cosper; maternal uncle, Ash Taylor; paternal uncle Stanley Cosper and wife Joan. Ms. Sue Carol Smith, 60, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2010 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. A graveside service will be conducted today at 10:00am at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson. Ms. Smith is survived by her mother, Zella Smith; son, Jeremy Harold Echols; and brother, Donald Carl Smith. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
