Melvin W. Johnson
ABSAROKEE - Melvin W. Johnson passed away at his home Sunday Jan. 31, 1999. He was born Feb.11, 1946 in Billings, the only child of Albert (Pete) and Evelyn Johnson. He was raised on the West Rosebud on his grandfather's homestead.
Melvin married Sandra Darkenwald Oct. 3, 1970 and lived in Absarokee the rest of his life. He was night auditor for the Super 8 Motel in Columbus the last six years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Sandy of Absarokee; his oldest daughter, Tammy (T.J.) and (Scott) McArdle of Etiwanda CA; daughters, Tisa (Ronnie, Jr.) Wright of Roberts and Tonya of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; and son, Kevin of Billings.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will he held 11 am Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Absarokee. Memorials may he made to the Big Sky Hospice, Stillwater Team, PO Box 1109, Columbus, MT 59019 or the Absarokee Swimming Pool Assoc., c/o Rory Gauthier, PO Box 404, Absarokee, MT 59001.
Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Esther Lillian Knudsen
BOZEMAN - Esther Lillian Knudsen, 86, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at the Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Fairview Alliance Church in Fairview with interment in the Nameless cemetery in North Dakota. Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service is in charge.

Gordon Arnold Lund
WOLF POINT - Gordon Arnold Lund, 85, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at the Faith Home.
Visitations will be 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, at the Clayton Memorial Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at the First Lutheran Church with interment in Greenwood cemetery.

M. Kenneth Nybo
TUCSON, Ariz. - M. Kenneth Nybo passed away in Tucson on Jan. 27, 1999.
He was born in Malta, Mont., on Oct. 29, 1920. Ken and his wife, Eunice, lived in Billings until 1995 when they retired to Tucson. "Kenny" was the station manager/owner of KBMY radio for 20 years, during which time he was president of the Advertising Association of the West. He then sold commercial real estate until he retired.
Ken was a member of Al Bedoo Shriners, the Yellowstone Country Club, past president of the Petroleum Club and the Billings Jaycees.
Kenny will be fondly remembered as a "long, tall, sweet, caring family man with a great sense of humor and a capacity to enjoy life to the fullest."
He is survived by his wife, Eunice of Tucson; daughters, Kari Nybo (Billings), Kristin Kok (San Diego); brother, Stan Nybo (Billings); sisters, Iris Doyle and Inez Bell (San Diego); and grandchildren, Duke, Lisa, Fele and Baladar Uperesa. Memorials can be sent to Parents Let's Unite for Kids.

Evelyn Ellen (Halladay) Anderson
Evelyn Ellen (Halladay) Anderson passed away Saturday Jan. 30, 1999, in Billings of natural causes. She was born Wednesday April 19, 1910, at 9:20 p.m. in her aunt's home in Mt. Pleasant, UT. She was the second child born to Arthur and Agnes Florence (Sorensen) Halladay. She grew up in Provo, UT with her parents, five sisters and one brother. She attended school there; after high school Evelyn worked for F.W. Woolworth Co. in Provo. A new young assistant manager, Herbert Milbern Anderson of Nebraska came to this store and ultimately stole Evelyn's heart. He was transferred to Abilene, KS in 1930; Evelyn followed him there to be married on April 25, 1930. They had two children, Carol Jean and Herbert Keith. They moved to Missoula in 1941 where Andy managed the Woolworth Store for the next 32 years.
During her marriage, Evelyn was a homemaker but also active in the community. They were members of the Lion's Club, Elk's Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce and she belonged to a lady's book club and bridge clubs. She was a talented artist, taking University of Montana art courses and producing numbers of oil paintings with which she decorated her home and the homes of friends and relatives.
Andy retired in 1973 from the Woolworth Co., they moved to Salem, UT where they built their retirement home. Andy died July 10, 1984; she maintained her home five years before moving to Billings to be near her children.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sisters, Inez, Arba and Penny. From her parental family, Evelyn is survived by her brother, Roy Halladay of Orem, UT; her two sisters, Edna Lou (G.M.) Wellesly of Provo, UT, and Phyllis (Harris) Froisland of Salt Lake City, UT. Surviving are her daughter, Carol (Jim) Cronin of Billings, grandchildren Patrick (Sonja) Cronin, Tracy (Bob) Mann, and Caren (Gary) Crawford; her son, Herb (Laura) Anderson of Billings, grandchildren Shannon (Gary) Crable, Leslie (Dru) Pade, Margaret Joy; and ten great grandchildren whom she called her "little greats".
Funeral services are 11 am Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999 at Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork, UT; burial will follow at Spanish Fork City cemetery. Memorials may be to the Salvation Army. Arrangements were by Cremation or Funeral Gallery of Billings.

Louise Elizabeth Connors
THERMOPOLIS - Louise Elizabeth Connors, 79, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center in Casper.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Thermopolis. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, at the Church. Burial will be at Monument Hill cemetery. Mortimore Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Todd Robertson Hankins
CODY, Wyo. - Todd Robertson Hankins, 19, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at West Park Long Term Care Center.
Memorial services at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Cody United Methodist Church.

James John Hodik
DANVERS - James John Hodik, 82, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at his residence near Danvers from complications of cancer.
Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at St. Leo's Catholic Church. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, at the church. Interment will be at Mount Calvary cemetery. Creel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Richard Mitchell Brisbo Sr.
HARLEM - Richard Mitchell Brisbo Sr., 50, died Monday, March 29, 1999, south of Fort Belknap.
Wake will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, at the Chief Nosey Center. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 1, at the Center with interment in the Big Warm cemetery near Lodgepole. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge.

John A. Doney
HARLEM - John A. Doney, 28, died Monday, March 29, 1999, in a car accident south of Fort Belknap.
A wake will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 1, at the Red Whip Recreational Center in Fort Belknap. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 2, at the Center with interment in the Hillside cemetery in Dodson. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge.

Gertrude M. Gates
LEWISTOWN - Gertrude M. "Gert" Gates, 80, of Lewistown, died Thursday, March 25, 1999, in Billings of natural causes.
Cremation has taken place. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 1, in St. James Episcopal Church with inurnment at a later date. Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge.

Myron George Goes Ahead
PRYOR - Myron George Goes Ahead, of Pryor, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 28, 1999, due to a vehicle accident 13 miles west of Hardin on I-90. He was born on Oct. 29, 1951, the beloved son of Sylvester "Carty" and Ruby Iron Goes Ahead. His Crow name "Uuttawaatchaachish" (Courageous Weasel) was given to him by his granduncle, Plainfeather.
Myron was raised in Pryor and graduated from Edgar High School in 1970 and briefly attended Eastern Montana College, now MSU-Billings. While in high school, Myron was very athletic. He excelled and lettered in varsity football as a quarterback for three years and was in the starting lineup on the varsity basketball team all four years. In track he ran the one and two mile and set a State Class C record in the two mile, which held for several years. Myron loved to break colts. He also rodeoed for a short time in teamroping and bronc riding and hunted on horseback in the Pryor Mountains. He worked as a laborer at construction sites and as a counselor at the Detox Center in Ethete, Wyo., for several years. He also worked at a tanning and leather company but retired due to ill health.
He was a member of the Parish Council at St. Charles Mission, Pryor, and the Pentecostal Church. He was a committee member of the Friends of Chief Plenty Coups. He was proud of his heritage and as a great-grandnephew of Chief Plenty Coups, who was a first cousin and adopted brother of his great-grandmother "Otter Woman" Goes Ahead, Myron actively took part in the annual Chief Plenty Coups Day along with his dad. He was a traditional man and took great pleasure in the Crow culture. He was a member of the Ties in the Bundle Clan and a child of the Sore Lip Clan. He enjoyed teasing the Sore Lip children and his sisters-in-law. He camped during Crow Fair and sang with the Night Hawk Singers at powwows. In his younger days, he threw arrows for the Pryor District.
Myron also provided a helping hand to those in need. Enjoying sobriety for the last 15 years of his life, he tried to reach out to ones with alcoholic problems, even though he struggled with it again the past eight months. He was a very friendly and compassionate person, who made people feel very welcome and respected them, especially his clan aunts and uncles. Myron made friends quite easily. He died doing what he liked best which was giving someone a lift in his car.
He was married to Anita LaRance and later divorced. He was with longtime companion, Barbara Roberts, and later separated. He is survived by his daughters, Valena Jo Medicine Horse of Hardin and Candace April, and son, Louis Carlton "Cowboy" of Fort Washakie, Wyo.; and grandchildren, Jessie Real Bird and Micah Morrison. He is also survived by his parents, and brothers, Carlson (Orvilene) Goes Ahead, Elias (Rachel) Goes Ahead, Dana (Karen) Goes Ahead, all of Pryor; sisters, Rhea Goes Ahead and Marilyn (Jay) Simpson of Billings. He was especially fond of his nephews and nieces, Larry Lee (Heather) Rondeau, Zarah, Adrian, Judah, Rheanna, Lenita, Christian, Gabrielle, Carl, Garren, Zachary, Angela, Sidney, Elias "Grubs, " Jaris and Katelyne Goes Ahead and Lachelle, Londa and Joel Simpson and grandnephew, Clarke'l; his adopted brothers, Eugene Redstar of Pryor, and Mike Friday, and special friends, Sandy Friday, Raymond "Buster" Oldman and Burton Hutchinson, all of Ethete, Wyo.; adopted sisters, Marlene Rides Horse and Colleen Not Afraid of Billings; uncles, Charles (Gladys) De Crane, Clem (Regina) Goes Ahead, Vincent (Anna) Goes Ahead, Frank (Nadine) Iron, and Louis GoodLuck Sr.; aunts, Josephine Whiteman, Gloria Cummins, Agnes (Larry) Pretty Weasel, Iola Iron Caplet, Sylvia (Harold) Moss and Cordelia (Pius) Real Bird; and numerous cousins whom he was close to and considered them all as brothers and sisters.
Myron was preceded in death by an older brother, Adrian Carlton, and grandparents, George and Sarah Goes Ahead, Maggie Brass, and Edward and Angela Brass Iron; aunts, Stella Whiteman, Alice Goodluck, Iris Three Irons, Mary Dawes, Rose Turnsplenty, and Beulah Stewart; uncles, Wallace Iron, Theodore Iron, and Thomas De Crane; and best friends, Gilbert Left Hand Sr., Grant "Bugshot" Stewart, and Billy Wall.
Myron, we will always remember your kindness and love to us as a daddy, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and relative. ". . .Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither; the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." The Lord has allowed us to enjoy you for 47 years and He saw fit to take you home. No more tears, no more sorrow, and no more suffering for you in the face of Jesus, the Son of the living God. You will remain in our hearts and one day we shall see you yet. We shall go to you in the portals of heaven but you shall not return to us.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 1, 1999, at 1 p.m. in the Plenty Coups High School Gymnasium, Pryor. Rosary at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings. Dahl Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Chester W. Hammack
ASHLAND - Chester W. Hammack, 53, died Saturday March 27, 1999, at his home in Ashland following a heart attack.
Cremation has taken place. Graveside services on Saturday, April 10, at Lostine, Ore. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth in charge of the local arrangements.

Ruth A. Henderson
MALTA - Ruth A. Henderson, 82, of Malta, died Monday, March 29, 1999, at a Helena hospital after a long illness of cancer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 2, at the Malta Community Church with interment in the Malta cemetery. Adams Funeral Home is in charge.

Wayne E. Herness
CULBERTSON - Wayne Eugene Herness, 42, of Culbertson, died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital in Billings.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, at the Everson-Clayton Memorial Chapel. A private family funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel with interment in the Hillside cemetery.

Merlyn R. Hodson
Merlyn R. Hodson, 69, formerly of Cody, Wyo., died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at her home in Billings.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1, at Ballard Funeral Home with interment in Riverside cemetery, both in Cody.
