Melvin Rogstad
MILES CITY - Melvin Rogstad, 79, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at the Holy Rosary Health Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at the First Lutheran Church with interment in the family lot of the Custer County cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home is in charge.

Nettie Lynde Schmoll
SIDNEY - Nettie Lynde Schmoll, 85, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, at the Sidney Health Center-Extended Care Facility.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel with interment in the Melland cemetery.

Oliver Samuel Thorvilson
Oliver Samuel Thorvilson, formerly of Great Falls, died at Aspen Meadows in Billings on Oct. 26, 1999. He was born March 10, 1912, in Saskatchewan, Canada, to Albert and Dena Severson Thorvilson. The family moved to Kalispell where Oliver met and married Doris Marie Sipe in 1937. His work in the grain business eventually took them to Great Falls, where they made their home for 50 years.
Oliver was blessed with a fine singing voice and sang with various groups and choirs all his life. He enjoyed entertaining the staff and residents at Aspen Meadows with his songs. Oliver lived his Christian faith with a gentle, quiet strength.
He is survived by his children, Sharon (Tom) Unmacht of Las Vegas, Jim Thorvilson and Sandi (Tom) Kennedy of Billings. He is also survived by grandchildren, Joan (Bob) Slabaugh and Kevin (Wendy) Unmacht of Sacramento and Matt and Annie Kennedy of Billings; and great-grandchildren, Melissa, Shannon, Shelby, Haley, Jared and Riley; his sister, Dorothy Alstad of Kalispell; and sister-in-law, Emily Thorvilson of Great Falls. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris in 1995; brother, Cecil; sister, Florence; and brothers--in-law, Ole Alstad and Ed Rose. A service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, at St. John Lutheran Church in Great Falls. O'Connor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Ann Leiper McMurchie
Dorothy Ann Leiper McMurchie, 93, of Billings, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital.
The daughter of Judge Frank Purdy Leiper and Lillian Sartain Leiper, Dorothy was born June 22, 1906, in Glendive. She was the eldest of two children.
Dorothy was raised and educated in Glendive. Following high school she continued her education at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and received her degree in public school music. She was teaching English and music in Wakonda, S.D., when she met her husband to be, Boyd McMurchie of Centerville, S.D. They were married in Glendive, July 25, 1934, and had celebrated over 60 years of marriage. Mr. McMurchie preceded her in death, Jan. 6, 1999.
The McMurchies moved from Centerville to Ontario, Ore., in 1935. In 1955 they moved from Payette, Idaho, to Billings.
Music was a source of joy and delight for Dorothy. She began playing the pipe organ at the Glendive Congregational Church at age 12. Over her many years in Billings, she played both organ and piano in nearly all of the churches in town. She was also a cellist with the Billings Symphony. During her years of teaching her orchestra won the South Dakota State Championship as the top orchestra in the state.
She was a lifetime member of the P.E.O. Sorority and the Congregational Church.
Dorothy also had a great love of books and was an avid reader all her life.
Dorothy and Boyd loved traveling and had traveled extensively in the United States and Canada. They also enjoyed a good game of bridge.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Carol McMurchie of Billings; two sons, Boyd Leiper McMurchie of Mitchell, S.D., and David James McMurchie and his wife, Pauline of Springfield, Va.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Union cemetery, Wakonda.
Memorials may be made to Dr. Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral, Garden Grove, CA 92842.
Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Curtis Robert Allen
Curtis Robert Allen, 76, of Billings, passed away Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at his home following a long illness.
He was born June 13, 1923, in Detroit, the son of Barney and Elizabeth Allen. He was raised in Michigan and married Doris Hallam, Feb. 17, 1946, in Durango, Colo.
Curtis loved fishing with his friends at Deadman's Basin and Cooney Dam. He came to Montana in 1955 and worked for Holman Disel where he retired after 35 years.
He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Doris of Billings; children: Barbara (Hans) Bredius of Troy, Mich.; Bob (Grave) Allen of southern California; Darcy (Dale) Moody of Clinton, Mich.; Rick (Nancy) Allen of Holly, Mich.; Dorrell (Janice) Gates of Billings; Kay Tucker of Williston, N.D.; and Don (Tami) Olson of Shepherd; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his sister, Lois Feidhtinger of Largo, Fla.; and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Eunice.
A memorials service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at Smith West Chapel. Cremation has taken place. Memorial may be made to Big Sky Hospice, P. 0. Box 35033 Billings, MT 59107.

Mary A. Lindell
GLASGOW - Mary A. Purcell Lindell, 83, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital of natural causes.
Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. and a vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at the church, with interment in Highland cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge.

Gary Loren 'Deacon' Raty
Gary Loren "Deacon" Raty passed away October 25, 1999, at the age of 55, after a courageous battle with cancer. Gary was born on March 8, 1944, in Great Falls, the son of Elaine and Russell Raty. He was raised and educated in Great Falls. Gary married Elaine Haman on January 25, 1962, in Idaho Falls, ID. They lived in Great Falls for a short time before moving to Seattle, and in 1970 they settled in Billings.
A man of many accomplishments, Gary learned to wheel and deal from the time he was a young boy. It paid off in his many achievements throughout his short lifetime. Because of his natural artistic abilities, Gary published two books showing his intricate woodwork with a scrollsaw. He enjoyed building houses, apartments, cabinets and anything that required working with wood.
He opened a motorcycle repair shop in a small garage in 1972. The motorcycle repair shop flourished into a custom Harley Davidson shop - Quality Custom Cycle. For over a decade he loved making custom Harley Davidsons. His passion was designing, building, painting and showing his motorcycles and VW trikes. As one not to sit still, one business led into another. To name a few: Quality Custom VW Repair, American Auto Salvage, American Way Recycling, Shiloh Plastics and his current business - Eagle Tattoo. Eagle Tattoo opened in the 1970s and was the first tattoo shop in Montana. A second tattoo and body piercing parlor (Eagle Tat-2) was opened on the westend of Billings in 1998. He loved the tattoo work and enjoyed the many people he saw every day.
His many hobbies and enjoyments included dumpster diving, visiting with friends and relatives, watching western movies, reading, playing on the computer and spending time with his grandchildren who were the light of his life.
Gary will be best remembered by the fun loving way he always got along with others, his quick wit and hearty laugh that was loved by all.
Survivors include: his wife, Elaine; children: John (Lynn) Raty, Toni (J.R.) North, and Tammy (Matt) Wagenman; grandchildren: Joshua, Frank, Cody, Jessica, Gairet and MarLayna. Siblings include: Marilyn Keiper, AZ; Delores (Hill) Brown, NV; Carol Gambrel, MT; Linda (John) Carpita, WA; Corrine (Rick) Wanzie, CA; Celeste Danielson, CA; Janice (Brian) Fisher, CA; Ron Raty, MT; Clifford Howse, CA; Mike (Patty) Howse, TX; Patrick (Narcissa) Howse, CA; and Jim Howse, MT.
Gary was preceded in death by his loving mother, father and brother, Russell Raty.
WE WILL MISS YOU DAD.
Please join us in remembering Gary by celebrating his life with us. The celebration will be held at Faith Chapel, 517 Shiloh Rd., on Friday, October 29, 1999 at 1:30 p.m.

Earl Ray Clymore
Earl Ray Clymore, 86, of Billings, formerly of Worland, Wyo., passed away Oct. 26, 1999, at the Evergreen Laurel Nursing Home in Laurel. Born July 28, 1913, at Urbana, Mo., Earl was one of 10 children born to Ezra Thomas and Zona May Clymore.
Shortly after graduating from high school, Earl moved to Worland, where he worked for his brother, Bill, on a farm west of town.
While working in Worland, he met his future wife, Edna Johnson, who had moved to Worland to work in the hospital after graduating from nursing school in Hastings, Neb. They were married on Oct. 19, 1942, if Farnam, Neb., while Earl was serving in the army during World War II. Earl served five and one half years in the 1575 Engineer Heavy Shop Company. Part of that time was spent in Burma and India, where he drove a truck over the Burma Road.
They lived and raised their family in Worland until 1992, when the moved to Billings to be close to children. Earl worked as a meat cutter for Safeway from 1958 until retirement in 1978. He and Edna had been longtime members of the Worland United Methodist Church.
Earl is survived by his wife, Edna of Billings; his sons, Dennis (Marilynn) Clymore of Billings, and Gary (Joan) Clymore of Roundup; his daughter, Lana Clymore of Boulder, Colo.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and his three sisters: Belva Smith of Worland, Grace Adams of Springfield, Mo., and Bethel Krei of Syracuse, Neb.
Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Riverview cemetery in Worland. Memorials may be directed to the charity of one's choice or the Montana Rescue Mission, 2822 Minnesota Ave., Billings, MT 59101. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Dorothy L. Sider
Dorothy L. Sider passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999. She was born on Oct. 27, 1927, in Scottsbluff, Neb., the daughter of Alex and Catherine Nagel. She grew up in Billings with her sister and four brothers.
She met Clarence Sider when he came to Billings on leave from the army. They were married in Billings on Aug. 16, 1944. Dorothy loved her family, grandchildren and friends. She enjoyed quilting, music, flowers, and calls and visits from family and friends. She was very proud of her cup and saucer collection.
Dorothy was a long time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she served as angel choir director, choir member, and women's group and youth director, before she was limited by illness. She taught her family the meaning of love. She was preceded in death by and infant sister, Dorothy, and a brother, Donald.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence; her daughter, Connie; her son, Charles and his wife, Debbie; her two grandchildren, Kevin and Nathan; her sister, Betty Degenhart and her husband, Albert; her three brothers: Jim Nagel and his wife, Donna; Richard Nagel and his wife, Ann; and Alex Nagel and his wife, Marilyn; her aunt, Esther Bryant of California; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist with cremation to follow. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the charity of one's choice.

John Brown Bawden
John Brown Bawden, 68, 1610 Virginia Lane, Billings, died Oct. 24, 1999, at his home, of natural causes. John was born April 4, 1931, in Sidney. He graduated from Fairwiew High School in 1949, and Montana State University in Bozeman in 1953, and served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.
He married Joan Ierien in 1953, in Sidney, and they moved to Billings in 1956. He worked at the Public Auction Yard, Y-V Fertilizer, Montana Beef Industries, Peavey Feeds, and Standard Chemical.
John enjoyed reading, visiting with his friends, and spending time with his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan; and brother, Lee Bawden.
He is survived by his daughters: Kay Grosulak (Dale) of Reno, Nev.; Julie Slotsve (Scott) of Lolo; May Jo Zwang (Bruce) of Libby; Bette Abelman (Alan) of Billings; sons: Jack Bawden of Billings; Bob Bawden (Elaine) of Cheyenne, Wyo.; his brother, Jim Bawden of Crown Point, Ind.; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Nov. 1, at 9 p.m., at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Private interment at Holy Cross cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Billings Public Library.

Selma 'Sally' Wooderson
DENVER - Selma "Sally" Wooderson, 83, formerly of Greybull, Wyo., died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, in Denver.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at Grace Lutheran Church in Greybull. Atwood Family Funeral Directors Inc. is in charge.

Corrine Deriana
NEW TOWN, N.D. - Corrine "Cory" Deriana, 75, of New Town, died Sunday morning at Trinity Hospital in Minot. She was born March 12, 1924, in Elbowoods. Corrine married George Deriana and raised two sons. Her lifelong career was in nursing, working as a psychiatric aide, nurse and nursing supervisor at the Montana State Hospital. She finished her nursing career at the V.A. hospital at Fort Harrison, Mont. After retirement, she worked as an activities director at the Helena Indian Alliance.
Corrine had a lifelong appreciation of music, especially jazz, blues and rock. In her later years, she studied the Native American history of her family.
Corrine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; son, David; son, Baby Deriana; brother, Elijah Chase; and sister, Reggie Blacher.
She is survived by son, Ronald Deriana; granddaughters, Lynda Pashen and Kim Deriana; grandson, Nicholas Deriana; and great-grandson, Garrett Pashen.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at Twin Buttes with interment in the Chase Family cemetery near Twin Buttes. Fulkerson Funeral Home of Watford City is handling arrangements.

John Robert Oleson
GREYBULL, Wyo. - John Robert Oleson, 81, died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at his home.
Viewing will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the Greybull Funeral Home, with services to follow in the Zion Lutheran Church at Emblem. Interment will be at Hillside cemetery.

Gordon C. Way
CODY, Wyo. - Gordon C. Way, 87, died Monday, Oct. 25, 19999, at the West Park Long Term Care Center.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at the Ballard Funeral Home.
