Tenina Pominville Little
MISSOULA - Tenina "French" Pominville Little, 97, of Missoula, died Friday, March 24, 2000, at St. Patrick's Hospital, Missoula, of natural causes.
She was born Dec. 25, 1902, at Frenchtown, Mont., the eldest of eight children born to Henri and Hattie Bell Pominville.
In 1904 she moved with her family to Fairview, Mont., where her parents, grandparents, and several uncles established homesteads. Her father donated part of his homestead for the site of the Fairview High School. She played guard on the 1920-21 championship Fairview High School Girl's Basketball Team. After graduation, she attended Dillon Normal School, now known as Western Montana University, and received her teaching credential. She then taught elementary school in Antelope, Enid, and as a substitute teacher in Lambert, Mont. In 1926 she met and married Dighton Little Jr., a World War I veteran and a Lambert businessman. After living briefly in Glendive, they owned and operated an Italian grocery store in Roundup, Mont. They then moved to Missoula in 1929 where they were the first Missoula bulk oil and gasoline dealers for the Standard Oil Co. She kept the books and their one truck operation expanded to five trucks and six employees serving Missoula, the Blackfoot, Bitterroot and Frenchtown Valleys. They retired in 1954 from the bulk plant, but Dighton stayed active in various cattle operations in the Frenchtown area with Dr. HH Koessler. Dighton preceded her in death in 1986, after sixty years of marriage. She continued to live in their Rattlesnake home until her death.
Mrs. Little was active in the community through the years and was one of the founders of the Garden City Duplicate Bridge Cub. She was active in the Daughters of Isabella, St.. Ann's Society, St. Francis Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Business & Professional Women's Club, Lady Elks, Women's Sky Liners Equestrian Club, St. Anthony and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Churches, and the Rattlesnake Homeowners Association. She was known-for her love of people, music and sports of all kinds.
Besides her husband, Dighton, she was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Henry, Tony, Joseph and Amar Pominville, Netta Davis, Belle Dempewolf, Stella Holland and a grandson, Dighton Lewis Little.
Survivors include a son, Warren "Dite" Little, Missoula, a granddaughter, Linda Little, of South Lake Tahoe, Nev., and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be missed by all who knew her.

Viola M. Johnson
POWELL, Wyo. - Viola M. Johnson, age 98, died at the Powell Nursing Home on April 2, 2000. She was the wife of the late Albert E. Johnson Sr. She was the oldest of 11 children born to George and Mary (Davidson) Christiansen at Saronville, Neb., on Jan. 7, 1902.
Albert and Viola moved from Central City, Neb., in 1934 to Powell where they farmed on West Willwood until they retired. Family, farming, flowers and fancy work were her life long interests.
She is survived by three sons, Albert Jr. and wife, Opal of Prineville, Ore.; LaVern and wife, Ruth of Powell; and Ken and wife, Ann of Elkhorn, Neb.
Viola was blessed with nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. One sister, Alta, lives in Seattle, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents, nine brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 6, from 8:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home with interment to follow in Crown Hill cemetery.
Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home, Powell, Wyo., is in charge of arrangements.

Jacqueline Cuzzourt
EASLEY, S.C. - Jacqueline Cozzette Johnson Cuzzourt, 41, and her daughter, Crista Michelle Cuzzourt, 15, of 100 Kimberly Lane, Easley, S.C., were killed in a car accident Thursday, March 30, 2000.
Jacqueline was born in Ft. Huchucha, Ariz., a daughter of Evelyn Shibley Glatter of Ralston, Wyo., and the late Thelbert Johnson. She graduated from Cody High School in Cody, Wyo. She was employed with Lockhead Martin Aircraft Center in Greenville, S.C., for 12 years.
She was a U.S. Navy veteran, where she served with the HS-I Helicopter Squadron as an aviation mechanic in Jacksonville, Fla.
Surviving in addition to her mother and step-father, Wally Glatter, are one son, Christopher Michael Cuzzourt of Armuchee, Ga.; her uncles, Ray (Laura) Vallie of Cody, Wyo., Al Shibley of Othello, Wash.; her aunts, Lena (Ken) Witcher of Joliet, Mont., Lillian (Bill) Kroll of Bridger, Mont., Yvonne Hadley of Billings, Mont. She has many cousins who she loved dearly, also friends, Joyce Larson, Wilma Stipe, Rosemary Jansen, Linda Cater, and very special friend, Jon Curran.
Cremation has taken place. Services for Jacqueline will be announced at a later date.

Wayne E. Goben
NORFOLK, Neb. - Wayne E. Goben, 59, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, after a lengthy illness.
Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, at Howser-Fillmer Mortuary. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the Glen Park Church of Christ in Norfolk. A reception will follow at the Nebraska Christian College gymnasium. Interment will be at Hillcrest cemetery. Memorials include the Glen Park Church of Christ Youth Fund, Agape Pregnancy Center, Nebraska Youth Camp, and York Christian College in York, NE.

Russell Hawkins
Russell Hawkins was born Oct. 31, 1919, in Spring Grove Township, Wis., to Robert and Hazel (Marsh) Hawkins. He was the fourth of five children. Russ was called home to be with the Lord on March 31, 2000, at Saint Vincent Hospital.
Russ served as a sergeant with the 502nd Parachute Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, in the European Theater from Nov. 6, 1941, to April 12, 1945, receiving a purple heart for injuries received in Holland. Upon his return, Russ married Verla Meinert. Russ and Verla spent the next six years operating a family farm in the Davis, Ill., area.
In 1951, Russ and Verla moved to Boulder, Colo., where Russ worked as a policeman for 12 years, including four years as a detective sergeant. He took over management of the Lazy VV Ranch in Boulder on Dec. 18, 1964, and retired from that position on Jan. 18, 1985. Russ and Verla moved to Billings at that time to be with family. Following his retirement, Russ worked for Dr. Don Woerner at Laurel East Veterinary Clinic.
Russ is survived by his wife, Verla; his daughter, Betty and her husband, Paul Miller; his son, Gail and his wife, Gloria, all of Billings. He is also survived by five grand children, Heidi (Miller) and Todd Swenson of Bismarck, N.D., Grant and Keri Miller, Russ and JaLynn Hawkins, and Martha and Rebecca Hawkins, all of Billings.
Russ Hawkins was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church. He loved the Lord, his wife, family and his country. He will be missed by many.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 4, at Cremation or Funeral Gallery, 29 8th Street West. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 2, also at Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Saint Vincent Hospital and Health Center Nursing Education Fund or Mount Olive Lutheran Church.

Dennis Wayne Peterson
Dennis Wayne Peterson died at his home early Friday morning, March 31, 2000, after an extended illness. He was born March 6, 1930, in Clearbrook, Minn., the second son of Benjamin Alvin and Ellen Amelia Asplund Peterson. At an early age, the family moved to Duluth, Minn., where Dennis attended school, graduating from Denfeld High School in 1948.
Following graduation, he moved to Havre where he began 42 years of employment with the Valley Motor Supply Com-pany/Motor Parts Warehouse in the area of outside sales and management, transferring to Billings in 1953. Dennis was a people person and his employment allowed him the privilege of meeting wonderful people, many of whom he has kept in touch with through the years.
Dennis married , "the love of his life, " Beverly Olson on July 1, 1950, at First Lutheran Church in Havre. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; son, Paul and wife, Deborah of Madison, Wis.; daughter, Diane and husband, Dennis of Charles City, Iowa and four grandchildren, Derek Peterson of Kalamazoo, Mich., Aaron Niezwaag of Charles City, Krista Niezwaag of Omaha, Neb., and Leah Niezwaag of Charles City, all of whom he loved so dearly. Additional survivors include sisters-in-law, Emma Davis and her husband, Clarence, Lucy Peterson of Duluth, and Margelaine Matzke (Don) of Havre; brothers-in-law, Marlan Olson (Donna) of Malta and Gary Olson of Chinook, as well as many nieces and nephews, in particular Donald Davis, Billings and Debra Davis Larson of Glencoe, Minn., with whom he had a special relationship. He is also survived by sister, Lois Savely of San Diego, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth.
Dennis was an active member of American Lutheran Church in Billings, where he served faithfully in many capacities. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Billings and Yellowstone County and the Board of Directors of Associated Industries.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 4, at American Lutheran Church, 5 Lewis Avenue. Cremation with interment of ashes will be at Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park.
Honorary Pall Bearers are Rodney Frick, Dean Swenson, James Hall, Ron Adkins, Marian Eichlin and his Duluth friends of 50 plus years, Richard Schnuckle, Richard Peterson and Donald Butters.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to American Lutheran Church or Northern Rockies Cancer Center, 1041 North 29th Street, Billings.
Michelotti, Sawyers and Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Norden Arthun
ROSCOE - Norden Arthun, 89, passed away early Sunday morning, April 2, 2000, at the family home in Roscoe, Mont. Norden was the last survivor and oldest son of nine children born to Norwegian immigrants Gunder and Jorunn Arthun. He was born on July 24, 1910, on the family ranch on Upper Butcher Creek between Luther and Roscoe. Norden spent his early childhood herding sheep for his father and uncles in the nearby mountains and his early adult life ranching near Roscoe.
In 1934, he began a 55 year career as a mail carrier between Roscoe, Red Lodge, Alpine and Absarokee. On Sept. 30, 1941, he married Irene Anderson in Billings, and they made their home in Roscoe for 59 years. He enjoyed fishing, yard work and gardening, reading and playing whist with his family. Norden was a gentle and kind man, deeply attached to his wife, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and sisters and brothers-in-law. He was blessed with many friends in the area and considered them as family also. His life was characterized by helping others and always encouraging people to enjoy and be thankful for what they had.
At the time of his retirement at age 80, it is believed that he had the longest record for star route mail service in the United States. His special service and accommodations to those along the mail routes were appreciated and will be remembered by many.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Arthun of Roscoe; daughter, Diane (Dr. William R.) Evans of Eagle River, Alaska; son, Dean (Peggy) Arthun of Red Lodge; grandson, Dr. Jeff (Brenda) Tjaden of Montgomery Village, Md.; granddaughter, Jennifer (Brett) Prince of Beaverton, Ore.; granddaughter, Kirsten Arthun, attending Concordia College at Moorhead, Minn.; and grandson, Erik Norden Arthun of Red Lodge. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and many cousins in Norway.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Tjaden and eight brothers and sisters. His life was full and rewarding, and a gift to all who knew him. Norden was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Absarokee, and a 63-year member of Star In The West Masonic Lodge and Royal Arch Masons of Red Lodge.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 8, in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Absarokee. Interment will be in the Roscoe cemetery, with Olcott Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the Roscoe Community Center or to the charity of one's choice.

Shirley Ainsworth
BUFFALO, Wyo. - Shirley Ainsworth, 76, passed away Friday, March 31, 2000, at her home following a long illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 6, at Adams Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo, with Reverend Danny Francis officiating. A private family interment will take place in Kaycee at a later time. Friends may donate in her memory to the Disabled American Veterans or the Senior Center in care of the Adams Funeral Home, who are in charge of arrangements.

Robert Arthur Bateman
Robert Arthur Bateman, 82 of Joliet passed away Saturday April 1, 2000 at the Western Manor Nursing Home in Billings.
Robert was born July 12, 1917, in Chitwood, Ore., the son of Robert Edward and Josie (Landis) Bateman. His family moved to Billings when Robert was an infant. He graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1937. On Aug. 27, 1938, he married Marion McKittrick and to this union four children were born. He worked for the Billings Fire Department from 1943 to 1967. In 1967, they moved to Joliet, Marion preceded him in death in 1986. In 1987, he married Lucille Schiebler.
Survivors include his wife Lucille of Missoula; four children, Robert Bateman of Hamilton, Terry Bateman of Joliet, Bonnie Craig of Billings and Kathy Vandehey, of Richardosn, Texas; 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, at the Joliet Christian Church. Cremation has taken place. Smith West Chapel in charge of arrangements.

John Flakne
PLENTYWOOD - John Flakne, 85, passed away Saturday morning April 1, 2000, at Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home in Plentywood.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, at Plentywood Lutheran Church, with Pastor David C. Curtright officiating. Burial will be in the Plentywood cemetery.
Fulkerson Funeral Home of Plentywood is in charge of arrangements.

Harold W. "Bill" Hayes
LAUREL - Harold W. "Bill" Hayes, 89 of Laurel, died at the Evergreen Laurel Care Center, Sunday, April 2, 2000, surrounded by his family.
The son of Ernest and Dora Hayes, Bill was born Jan. 6, 1911, at Sturgis, S.D.
On Jan. 1, 1933, he and Mildred Draine were married in Sturgis, S.D. Bill enjoyed his lifelong work as a horseman and all around hand caring for livestock. In his day he was known and highly regarded as one of the top hands in the Miles City Country.
He loved his grandchildren and for many years was accompanied by various of them as he went about his work, creating many fond memories.
He was pre-deceased by his wife, parents, three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his three children; Richard W. (Betty) Hayes of Easton, Wash., Darla (Barry) Edward of Billings, and Maynard (Sheryl) Hayes of Schertz, Texas; 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
He was a long-standing member of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5 at Rockvale cemetery. Memorials may be made to Evergreen Laurel Care Center. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Harry Stuart Allen
Harry Stuart Allen, 61, passed away at his home on Saturday, April 1, 2000, after a three year battle with cancer.
Harry was born on June 20, 1938 in Conrad, to Rowland L.(Ray) and Marion Peden Allen. The family moved back to Miles City when Harry was an infant and he was raised and educated there.
As a young man, he worked in construction, well drilling and seismograph. Harry later went into sales in the 1960's with the city directory which took him from Montana to upstate New York. At that time he was employed by Mullin. Kille Company of Chillicothe, Ohio. While in Ohio, Harry met his wife, Carol, and they were married on March 6, 1968 in Winchester, Va. They moved to Billings in 1970 where they raised their two sons. At that time, Harry went to work for R. L. Polk and Company, city directory as a sales manager, covering several western states. He greatly enjoyed his work, making many close friends. He retired from the directory in 1991.
After a brief "retirement", Harry started his own contracting business, Thrif-T Home Improvements, which he operated until he was forced to retire due to illness.
Harry is survived by his wife, Carol; two sons, Richard (Kristal) and Dan (Audrea) of Billings; two daughters, Jodie Anderson and Kyla (Tom) Izzi of Kalispell; three grandchildren; a sister, Maryann (Dave) Malnar of Havre; his mother-in-law, Grace Buck, of Billings and numerous nieces arid nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joanne Ridenour.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 409 S. 36th St. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Interment of cremains will be at Terrace Gardens cemetery. If desired memorials may be made to Big Sky Hospice, P.O. Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107.
