Emma Hansen
CULBERTSON – Memorial services for Emma Hansen, 82, will be Saturday, July 8, 2000, at 10:30 a.m., MDT, at the Bethel Free Lutheran Church in Culbertson. Interment of cremated remains will be in Ebenezer Churchyard cemetery at a later date. Fulkerson Funeral Home of Williston is in charge.

James W. Hightower Jr.
FORT BENTON – James W. Hightower, jr., 78, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at his home of natural causes.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 8, at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Fort Benton. A gathering at the Odd Fellows Hall will follow. Memorials are suggested to the Fort Benton Ambulance Fund. The Benton Funeral Home in handling the arrangements.
He was born Dec. 3, 1921, in Great Falls to James W. Hightower Sr. and Elizabeth (Hawkins) Hightower. He lived and ranched with his parents in the Dupuyer area and attended schools at the Dry Forks and in Choteau, graduating from Choteau High School in 1940.
He married Elsie Loeffler in Conrad on Oct. 14, 1945. They moved into Choteau, where they had three girls. In 1950, he went to work for the Montana State Highway Department.
He and his family moved to Fort Benton in 1963 where he was the state highway foreman until his retirement in 1980. Elise and Jim divorced in 1972.
He enjoyed playing pinochle, bingo, rodeos, high school sports, and spending time with his family. He loved traveling the countryside.
He was a past noble grand of the Odd Fellows, and he was an active member at the time of his death. He also was an honorary member of the Montana Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association.
Survivors include daughters, Betsy Gaylord of Maple Valley, Wash., Shirley Embleton of Fort Benton, and Barb Evans of Loma; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson.

Gladys Hippe
HELENA – Gladys Hippe passed away of natural causes June 29, 2000, in Helena. She was born to Robert and Josephine (Aspelund) Smith on Nov. 28, 1914, in Plentywood.
She graduated from Plentywood High School and married Oscar B. Hippe from Froid on March 28, 1938. They farmed near Froid their entire life and in latter years leased their land. They spent winters in Arizona for the past 30 years, returning to Froid in the summers. They also had a machinery implement store in Froid. She spent the last two years after the death of her husband in Helena.
She was a very active member in the VFW Auxiliary for 46 years and served as state president from 1965 to 1966 and state treasurer for 17 years. She was also very active in soil conservation and held national posts for the Soil Conservation Auxiliary. For many years she was treasurer of the Bridger Plant Material, a division of Soil Conservation, as well as treasurer of the Froid Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Vivian Smith from Plentywood; and infant sister, Ruby.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Fran Hippe of Billings; daughter and son-in-law, Jo Carol and Jim Burrington of Helena; grandson, Steve and Jackie Hippe of Froid; granddaughters, Della and Mark Ehlke of Townsend, Juli and Larry Kelly of Ulm, Janet Hippe of Billings; great grandchildren, Lacey Jo and Janea Ehlke, Jonathan, David and Logan Hippe; step grandchildren, Tim, Chad and Randy Burrington; sister-in-law, Benora Hunt of Willows, Calif.; niece and nephews, Barbara Johnson, Jeff and Scott Smith.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the Froid Lutheran Church on July 17, 1 p.m., with interment following the services at Kvile cemetery. Following interment a reception will be held in the basement of the Froid Lutheran Church. Memorials are suggested for the Froid Lutheran Church or the Froid Ambulance Fund.

Paul Bernard Kamp
WOLF POINT – Paul Bernard Kamp, 92, of Wolf Point, died late Monday evening, July 3, 2000, at the Valley View Home in Glasgow.
He was born April 28, 1908, at Nessen Valley, South of Ray, N.D., the son of Nels and Rosa (Dalsted) Kamp. He attended rural schools in the Ray area and later attended business college in Williston, N.D., and the University of Minnesota where he studied electronics.
Paul married Marjorie Ellingson of Williston on Jan. 24, 1943, in Minneapolis. They moved to California where Paul served in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge after WWII, they moved to Wolf Point where Paul was in partnership in the Marshall Wells Hardware (later Our Own Hardware) for 28 years. After retiring from the hardware store, he was employed part time at the Sherman Motor Inn for nearly 10 years as a handyman. He knew many people in the area and was known as a fix-it man.
Dad enjoyed his wife, children and grandchildren. He also looked forward to being with friends, fishing, hunting, playing golf, metal detecting, and making agate jewelry.
He is survived by his wife, Marge of 57 years; one son, Gene (Nola) of Billings; one daughter, Holly (Rich) Furber of Pryor; and four grandchildren, Matt Furber and Jake Bummer, both of Billings, Rose Furber and Luke Furber, both of Red Lodge; and a sister, Beatrice Nelson of Hamilton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Walt and Al, and one sister, Esther Scoffield.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 11a.m. on Monday, July 10, at the First Lutheran Church in Wolf Point with Rev. Timothy Whiteman officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Cora Krause
GLENDIVE – Cora Krause, 74, died on Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at the Glendive Medical Center.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 7, in the family lot of the Black Hills National cemetery in Sturgis, S.D. Visitation was held Thursday at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City.

Bethany Bryn Mackley
Bethany Bryn Mackley, 17-year-old daughter of Kirk and Jill Mackley, died in a car accident July 3, 2000. Born in Billings, on May 20, 1983, Bethany was a senior at Billings West High School where she was active in volleyball and had just returned from Spain with the Spanish class.
Bethany lived in Billings all her life except for three years when she and her family lived in Kailua, Hawaii. She went to Mexico on a mission trip with her Christian youth group in 1996. When you think of her, think of her bright smile, laughter and spontaneous personality.
She is survived by her parents and sisters, Lana and Mara of the family home; grandparents, Kent and Marj Montgomery of Rosebud, Kenneth Mackley of Hysham, and Charlene Mackley of Billings, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitations will begin at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, at the Smith West Chapel, 304 34th Street West. A memory and sharing time for students will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday evening. Services celebrating Bethany’s life will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 7, at the Faith Evangelical Church, 29th Street West and Broadwater. Pastor Marc Johnson of Hope Evangelical will conduct the services. Memorials are suggested to Hope Evangelical Church.

Katie McDermott
AUBURN, Wash. – Katie (Carson) McDermott died Sept. 23, 1998, in Seattle.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 10, at Greenwood cemetery in Wolf Point, Mont. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge.

William Manning ‘Bill’ Shirah
Bill Shirah, whose obituary appeared in the Tuesday Gazette, was also preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Sue Dahl. Her name was omitted in the material received by The Gazette.

Jamie Geraldine Standing Soldier
LAME DEER – Jamie Geraldine Standing Soldier, age 7, of Lame Deer, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2000, as the result of a car accident.
Jamie was born in Pine Ridge, S.D., on May 31, 1993, the daughter of Eugenia A. Rowland (her stepfather being Garrett Wadda) of Lame Deer, and Darrell Standing Soldier of Pine Ridge.
She attended the Lame Deer Public School and enjoyed school; she was very proud of her awards that she received during her two years of schooling. She especially enjoyed playing dress-up with her cousin, Adrienne Haugen. Jamie was Adrienne’s real life “Barbie doll.”
Jamie is survived by her parents; three brothers, Allance, Darrell, and Sean; and her baby sister, Serita; her grandparent, Victoria Seminole, step-grandparents, Gerald and Rita Redwoman; her aunts, LuJuanna Haugen, Darcy Rowland, and Bunny Redwoman; her uncles, Johnny Wamblee, Rayland Rowland, Lafe Haugen, Picard Wadda, Dennis Shoulderblade Jr.; her great-grandparent, Hubert Seminole, and numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Thomas J. Wadda, and grandparents, Eugene M. Rowland and Madonna Slowbear.
Jamie’s wake will be Friday, July 7, 2000, at the Lame Deer Boys and Girls Club at 8 p.m., and the funeral service will be Saturday, July 8, at the Lame Deer Boys and Girls Club at 2 p.m. The burial will take place at the Lame Deer cemetery. Arrangements were made by Rausch Funeral Home.

Diamond L. Adams
Diamond L. Adams, 82, of Billings, passed sway Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at her son’s home. She was born in Ohio, a daughter of Edwin Wesley and Mary Eula Madison Young. She was raised in Texas and came to Montana in 1974. She has been a longtime resident of South Forty in Billings.
Survivors include her son, Don and his wife, Sandy of Billings; one sister, Mary Phares of McAllen, Texas; one brother, Bill Young of Dubre, Ky.; a beloved niece, Eddiemae Wagg of Fairfax, Va.; two grandchildren, Jannie Dahl of Fargo, N.D., and Don Adams Jr. of Aurora, Colo.; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Allie, Stef; and many dear friends who knew her as “Granny” and slept under one of her beautiful quilts, her “blankets of love”.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Cremation or Funeral Galley 8th St. W & St. Johns. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Galley. Inurnment will be held later in Texas.

Betty Burdick
BUFFALO, Wyo. – Betty Burdick, 87, former Johnson County resident, died July 3, 2000, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Graveside services will be Friday, July 7, at 10 a.m. in Willow Grove cemetery in Buffalo. Adams Funeral Home is in charge.

Roy DeDobbeleer
GLASGOW – Roy DeDobbeleer, 93, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at Valley View Home of natural causes.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at Bell Chapel in Glasgow. Interment will be in Highland cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge.

Nettie Hoffman
Nettie Hoffman, age 94, of Billings, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at Aspen Meadows.
She was born Jan. 5, 1906, at San Mark, Italy, the daughter of Antonio and Grace (Gua-lano) DiLulo. She came to the United States as an infant in 1906 and lived at Hesper, Belgrade, Livingston, Whitehall and Billings. Nellie worked as a cook and baker at the Dude Rancher for many years.
Nettie married Jack A. Hoffman on Oct. 27, 1952, in Lewistown. He died in 1969.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and working in her garden. Nettie was a member of St. Patrick’s Co-Cathedral.
Survivors include two nephews, Blase DiLulo and Jim Ottolino of Billings and five nieces, Gracie Esser of Billings, Anna Marie Gunther of Snowflake, Ariz., Margaret Christianson of Tucson, Ariz., Rosie MacDonald of Wolfforth, Texas, and Bette Corry of Omaha, Neb.
Due to construction of St. Patrick’s Co-Cathedral, the Funeral Mass will be 9 a.m. Friday, July 7, at Smith’s Downtown Chapel, 120 N. 26th St. Rite of Committal will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Smith’s Downtown Chapel. Casket closed day of service.

Dora B. Fisher
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Dora B. Fisher, 85, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at the Deaconess Medical Center in Billings.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 6, in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Champion Funeral Home is in charge.

F.R. ‘Ray’ Fordyce
LEWISTOWN – F.R. “Ray” Fordyce, 80, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at the Central Montana Medical Center of natural causes.
Vigil services will be Sunday, July 9, at 6 p.m. in St. Leo’s Catholic Church. Funeral liturgy will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 10, in St. Leo’s with committal to follow in Mount Calvary cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge.

Joyce Elizabeth Fuqua
LIVINGSTON – Joyce Elizabeth Fuqua, 78, of Livingston, died early Tuesday morning, July 4, 2000, at Livingston Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, at Holbrook United Methodist Church, corner of 5th and Lewis Streets in Livingston. Graveside committal and burial will follow in Mountain View cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home.
Joyce was born Oct. 11, 1921, in Livingston, the daughter of Emil Maurice and Elizabeth Julia (Napoli) Caruso. She spent most of her life and received her education in Livingston, graduating from Park County High School in 1940. She left for a few short years and returned in 1965. On June 5, 1964, Joyce married Lynn Harry Fuqua in Ashton, Idaho. At the time of her marriage, she was serving her second term as Livingston’s city treasurer.
Joyce loved traveling to visit relatives and friends, and was an enthusiastic cook. She greatly enjoyed time spent with her family, friends and especially her grandchildren, who were very important to her. She was a member of Orient Chapter No. 6, Order of Eastern Star, and a pinochle card group for over 30 years. She also belonged to the Livingston Business and Professional Woman’s Club for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Lynn H. Fuqua of Livingston; a son, Charles Mason of Grass Valley, Calif.; two daughters and their husbands, Sheila and Grant Murie of Cheney, Wash., and Danna and Jack Schultz of Whitefish; a step-son, Mike Fuqua and his wife, Linda of Puyallup, Wash.; and a step-daughter, Charlotte Glover and her husband, Ron of Charleston, S.C.; two brothers and their wives, Dick and Donna Caruso of Livingston and Gilbert and Maggi Caruso of Costa Mesa, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Emil Caruso Jr.
Memorials in Joyce’s memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Phyllis Lovercheck
POWELL, Wyo. – Phyllis Lovercheck, 88, died on Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at the Powell Nursing Home.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 7, at the First United Methodist church. Interment will be in Crown Hill cemetery. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home, Powell, is in charge.
