JUNE AMY KELLEY

CHESTER - June Amy Kelley, 89, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at a Chester nursing home.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chester.

June was born in Lamont, Iowa, to Ray and Amy (Lewis) Toole on Oct. 30, 1913. She grew up and received her early education in Iowa. At age 10, she moved with her family to Bozeman, where she finished her formal schooling.

June married Marion F. Kelley in Bozeman on Nov. 27, 1930. They made their home in Bozeman, where she was a homemaker and mother of seven. June and her husband moved to Havre in 1959, then to Chester in 1962. Her husband worked as a butcher at the County Fair Food Center. When he died on Jan. 5, 1976, they had been married for 45 years.

June lived at the Sweetgrass Lodge in Chester for five years and then transferred to the Liberty County Nursing Home in Chester in 1994.

June was described as a "busy lady" during her life. In Bozeman, she was active in the Eagles Club and the Grand Avenue Christian Church. She and her husband took a geology course at Montana State University and became avid rockhounds. They collected, cut and polished many beautiful rocks and gems and made jewelry from the best specimens. June was awarded a sweepstakes fossil case from the Northwest Federation in recognition of her superb collection. She donated this case and collection to the Liberty County Museum for permanent display.

In Chester, June became active in the Royal Neighbors of America, the Eastern Star and served as a Rainbow adviser. She volunteered as a leader of the Campfire Girls and served on the Chester Garden Club. She was the first of the Garden Club members to plant flowers at the city park. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and W.E.L.C.A.

June was an artistic woman. She worked as a private seamstress during her early married years. She sewed wedding dresses and draperies, and did upholstery work. She also baked and decorated wedding cakes. She enjoyed art, did freehand oil painting, made silk flowers and floral arrangements, and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She collected thimbles, bells and lead-crystal glassware. She was an excellent ice skater in her youth. She enjoyed family camping, hiking, rockhounding, cooking, baking, and watching her favorite soap operas on television. She will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.

June was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Lewis Toole; sons-in-law, Henry "Smitty" Smith and Richard "Dick" Overlie; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Survivors include her sons, Marion "Jim" (Bobbie) Kelley of Helena, Shelby "Joe" (Shirley) Kelley of Great Falls, Lewis "Bud" (Romi) Kelley of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ray (Kareen) Kelley of Bakersfield, Calif.; daughters, Amy Smith of Havre, Dorothie (Paul) Overlie of Chester and Bonnie (Gary) Eppers of Fort Benton; 26 grandchildren, including one she raised from infancy; 53 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the Liberty County Nursing Home in Chester.

Cremation and arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel in Chester.

Mary J. Watson

Mary J. Watson, 81, of Missoula, passed away at Edgewood Vista in Missoula on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004.

She was born on April 24, 1923, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, but lived most of her life in Oakland County, Michigan.

She is survived by her children, Robert S. (Valerie) Watson, Jr. and Bonnie Jeanne Watson; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Laurie Watson Messiah.

Funeral services are Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at the Church of the Nazarene, 2339 26th Ave., Missoula, at 2 p.m.

Memorials may be sent to the Springfield Township Library, 12000 Davisburg Rd., Davisburg, MI 48350, or a charity of the donor's choice.

The Whitesitt Funeral Home and Cremation of Stevensville is in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Grace Morris

Ruby Grace Morris, 92, of Stevensville died at the Bitterroot Valley Living Center in Stevensville on Dec. 1, 2004.

Arrangements are pending and will be announced by the Whitesitt Funeral Home and Cremation of Stevensville.

Agnes Bratten

Agnes Norbury Bratten, 71, of Hamilton, died Wednesday of heart surgery complications in Rochester, Minn.

Agnes was born May 22, 1933 in Bernelda to Roy and Edna Norbury and moved to Hamilton when she was four.

On June 4, 1951, she married Orland Bratten. He survives.

She was a very caring person who was always there to help others. She was the happiest when having a musical jam session at her home as her husband played bass with the Sapphire Mountain Boys. She also enjoyed traveling the Montana rodeo circuit to watch her nieces, Marti, Shirlee and Dana Parini, barrel race.

Other survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Kathy of Battle Mountain, Nev., and Robert of Butte; grandson, Chris, who is serving with the Air Force in Georgia; sister, Shirlee (Ted) Parini of Butte; brothers, Bill (Liz) Norbury of Hamilton and Jim (Darlene) Norbury and Merlin (Elle) Norbury, also of Butte; and stepmother, Ada Norbury of Spokane.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Virgil.

Agnes, you were the most caring sister a family could ever hope for.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service in Hamilton will be held at a later date.

George Francis Slabodnik

George Francis Slabodnik, 56 of Victor died at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula on Saturday, November 20, 2004.

He was born on January 10, 1948, in California and was the son of George Francis and Angela Marie (Mikolich) Slabodnik.

George resided in Victor with best friends, Rock, Magnum and Molly Molly. He loved to camp, fish, 4-wheel and work on tractors.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Teresa (Pfau) Slabodnik of Victor.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 26, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Stevensville with Father Michael Smith officiating. A reception will follow at St. Mary's Family Center.

The Whitesitt Funeral Home and Cremation of Stevensville is in charge of arrangements.

TEMPIE POWELL

CASPER, Wyo. - Tempie Powell, 68, of Casper, Wyo., formerly of Havre, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at her home surrounded by her family.

A funeral service was held on May 23 at College Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry D. White officiating. Interment was at Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Tempie was born on July 25, 1934, in Nolan, Texas, to Alphonso Brown and Leanora (Bland) Terry.

Tempie married Jesse Oran Powell in Carlsbad, N.M., on July 3, 1954.

They lived in Havre from 1973 through 1984. She earned her GED in Havre in 1981 and attended Northern Montana College. They moved to Casper in 1984.

Tempie loved to garden, sew, attend Bible study, and was a prayer adviser for the Christian Women's Club in Casper. She was a member of College Heights Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by he parents, four brothers and one sister.

Survivors include her husband, Jesse Powell of Casper; daughters, Jacquelynn Leah (Jerry) Watkins of Casper, Virgina (Jon) Kuhlman of Casper, Charlena Renee (Ken) Rauch of Casper, Malynda Neilson of Casper; sons, Jessie O. (Tina) Powell Jr. of Casper and Dalton Lee (Christina) Powell of Casper; stepsisters, Elma Greenley and Martha Snyder of El Paso, Texas; stepbrother, George Snyder of Van Horn, Texas; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Special Olympics, 735 English Drive, Casper, WY 82601 or left at Bustard's Funeral Home.

Lois A. Buxton

Lois A. Buxton, a Bitterroot Native, 100, passed away in the morning, Tuesday, November 23, 2004, at the Hillside Manor in Missoula. Final arrangements are pending. Ronald Brothers of Dowling Funeral Home and Crematory 415 S. Second St. Hamilton 363-1111 is caring for the family.

ERIN KAY LEWIS

Erin Kay Lewis, 26, died May 18, 2003, from injuries sustained in an accident at her Havre residence.

Rosary will be held today at 7 p.m. at the St. Paul's Mission Recreation Center in Hays. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. on Thursday at the St. Paul's Catholic Church in Hays with burial to follow in the family cemetery at Three Buttes.

Erin was born in Havre on Sept. 18, 1976. She attended Hays/Lodge Pole grade school, Harlem Junior High and Wahpeton Boarding School where she graduated from 8th-grade. She attended Flandreau Indian School for a short time and then transferred to Hays/Lodge Pole High School. She moved to live with her mother in Pablo where she began attending Two Eagle River High School and received her GED in 1996.

Erin had a friendly disposition and made friends easily, but also possessed a quick flash temper. While living in Pablo, she met Jesse Janssen and fell in love.

Erin was registered at Salish Kootenai College and was going to be a nurse. In 1999 she attended Fort Belknap College and earned an associate of arts in human services. She moved to Havre. She worked as a receptionist, hostess, cashier, firefighter and most important, a mother. She was fascinated by all aspects of astrology, including dream interpretation and read up on it. She enjoyed watching movies, visiting with people both friends and strangers, cruising around, working out and keeping fit, and spending time with her family. She loved people.

Erin was preceded in death by her grandfather, Walter DeCelles; and great-grandfather, James B. Snow.

Survivors include her dearest friend and companion, Jesse Janssen Sr. of Hays; son, Jesse David Janssen Jr. of Hays; mother, Michelle Lewis of Hays; father, William DeCelles of Dodson; half-brothers, William and Phillip, both of Dodson; sister, Courtney Werk of Hays; brother, Earl Werk of Hays; grandmothers, Judith Gray and Gertrude Werk, both of Hays, Cecelia DeCelles of Fort Belknap Agency, and Ann Lewis of Shiprock, N.M.; grandfather, Russell Lewis of Albuquerque, N.M.; great-grandmother, Bertha Snow of Hays; great-grandfather, Ben Lewis of Shiprock, N.M.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home in Chinook.

Gordon C. Buck

Gordon Charles Buck, 90, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, in Glendale, Calif.

He was born July 24, 1914, to Charles Amos and Mildred May Buck in Stevensville. He graduated from Stevensville High School in 1932. He then attended the University of Montana and was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He graduated in 1936 at which time he moved to Helena.

Gordon married Jean Chilton of Helena on Aug. 31, 1940.

Gordon served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. He spent three years in Florence, Italy, where his Corps was stationed. After the war, he worked for the Veterans Administration in Glendive. After a couple of winters there he and his wife moved to California. He worked for the credit department of General Electric Company until his retirement at the age of 70.

He and his wife, Jean, traveled extensively in Europe as well as in the U.S.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, in 2003, his granddaughter, Sarah, and his nephew, James C. Smola, Jr.

Gordon is survived by his son, Dennis (Liz) of Southern California; his daughter, Diane, and her husband, Jeff Reynolds, of Southern California; his sister, Dorotha Smola, of Stevensville; his niece, Carolyn Mickens, of Hamilton and his loving care giver, Emma.

Funeral services were held Nov. 24 in La Canada, Calif. with interment at Valhalla Memorial Park, North Hollywood, Calif.

ELMER ZARN

CHINOOK - Elmer M. Zarn, 79, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at a Havre care center due to natural causes.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Zion Lutheran Church with burial following in the Kuper Memorial cemetery.

Zarn was born on March 17, 1924, in Fargo, N.D., to Walter and Margit (Thorson) Zarn. He was raised on a farm near Watford City, N.D., by his stepfather. In 1942 Elmer moved to Chinook with a friend who had relatives there.

He married Aileen Gorman on April 16, 1945, in Chinook.

He worked in the shipyards in Tacoma, Wash., worked on oil rigs, at an oil refinery and did farm work. Elmer went to work for the Great Northern Railway and retired on May 31, 1985, with more than 30 years of service. He also held second jobs over the years, working for Frank Pehrson at the service station, carrying mail for Willie Pyette, and installing house siding on his own.

Elmer loved hunting, boating and fishing. His greatest joy was helping anyone who could use a willing hand.

Survivors include his wife, Aileen (Deane) Zarn of Chinook; daughters, Ruth Ann (Larry) Cain of Kettle Falls, Wash., and Pam (Bob) Cross of Chinook; sons, Rick (Tammy) Zarn of Kalispell, Elmer Dean (Karla) Zarn and Barry Zarn, both of Chinook; sisters, Edith Vanwagner of Kent, Wash., and Myrtle Oppeboen of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, John Rogness, brother, Alvin Rogness; six stepbrothers and stepsisters; and an infant son and daughter.

Memorials may be sent to the Zion Lutheran Church.

Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
