FLORENCE KELLY
Florence Lillian Kelly, beloved mother and grandmother, peacefully found her lord and beloved husband, John T. Kelly, the evening of Feb. 6, 2004.
Florence was born April 27, 1920 in Absarokee, and graduated from Columbus in 1938. In 1940, she went to work for the Farm Security Administration in Red Lodge, which led to her meeting her beloved John, whom she married on Sept. 5, 1941, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Absarokee.
The couple moved to Emerald Ranch on Red Lodge Creek, where they spent many love filled years, raising and showing championship Columbia sheep, along with cattle, and hogs. Florence was a 4H leader, and they both were active members of the Woolgrowers Association. They founded many cherished friendships, and especially enjoyed the time John served on the Montana Board of Livestock.
Florence was preceded in death by John on April 25, 1997; infant son, James T.; brothers Clarence and Kenny; and sister, Karen. She is survived by children and grandchildren, Tom and Lorrie Kelly of Post Falls Idaho, Gina Carhart, Tracy Head, Jacque Gay, Keith and Norma Jean Kelly of Helena, Keith, Shannon, Conan, Kevin, Pat and Viki Kelly of Billings, Shawn, Sharla Mattheis, and Sherry Kelly Wilkinson and Tom of Roundup, and Julie Martin; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Dale McKinsey; brothers, Don and Bud Haugan; nieces and nephews, Carol, Kathy, Bob, and Dennis and their families.
Florence was best known for opening her home, heart and table — none ever left hungry. Her greatest joy was in the love and pride she had for John and her family. Her walls were filled with countless pictures of them all, and every clipping or tidbit of accomplishment any had.
She led her life with strength and grace, and the impact she had on so many will run deep for eternity. She will be greatly missed. Florence spent her last three years at the Lincoln Lane Assisted Living in Billings, where she was loved and tenderly cared for. Judy, Larry, Jennifer, and Doffie, a heartfelt thank you from us all.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004 at the Olcott Funeral Chapel in Red Lodge. Interment followed at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Memorials can be given to the Lincoln Lane Assisted Living at 659 Lincoln Lane Billings, 59105, or the St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
