Cordella Iola McKinney
Cordella Iola McKinney, 94, of Jackson, Calif., former Cohagen resident, died Sunday, June 16, 2006, at the Kit Carlson Nursing Home in Jackson, Calif.
She was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on June 16, 1912, the daughter of Ole and Allie Olson Johnson. She attended school at Hillside School in Hillside until the eighth grade. Being the oldest of five girls, she then stayed home to help her father raise her siblings.
In 1932, she and Lester McKinney were married . They ranched at Cohagen where she worked along side her husband and four sons on the ranch.
Mrs. McKinney was a member of the Lutheran Church in Cohagen. She was a great cook and she made the most wonderful pies. A true pioneer woman, she was very hard working and loved helping out on the ranch and farm.
Survivors include her four sons, Verne (Alice) McKinney of Billings, Ronald McKinney of Jackson, Lloyd McKinney of Cohagen, and Larry (Kate) McKinney of Plymouth, Calif.; a sister, Orphia Badgely of Suttercreek, Calif.; a Goddaughter, Lucille Ronning; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Clella, Irene and Gladys; a cousin, Romaine Johnson, who was raised as a brother; and a grandson, Joel.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 20, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County cemetery.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Charles "Sonny" Green
Charles “Sonny” Green, 76, of Miles City died Sunday, July 16, 2006, at his home in Miles City.
He was born in Miles City on Nov. 19, 1929, the son of Loy and Evelyn Beckman Green. He attended Loesch School near Volborg then went to high school at Custer County District High School in Miles City.
After high school, he ranched and worked as an apprentice blacksmith on the Milwaukee Shops in Milwaukee, Wis. He was drafted into the United States Army in September 1951.
He and Jeanne Hough were married on Feb. 24, 1952, in Miles City. Two weeks later, he left for a 14-month tour in Korea as a combat engineer.
Mr. Green was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant First Class in June of 1953. Following his discharge, he returned to the ranch where his son, Rob, was born in 1954.
Mr. Green was part of LJ Green and Sons Corporation. Two more children were born, Mary “Peggy” in 1956 and Rick in 1958 in Miles City when Mr. Green was taking his G.I. training in mechanics at Boutelles. Following, they returned to the ranch.
The family left the ranch when the corporation was dissolved in 1989 and his family moved south of Miles City where they bought a country home. Due to Mr. Green’s health, they moved into Miles City in 2005.
Mr. Green liked collecting and shooting guns, playing cribbage and woodworking. He could fix anything that could be fixed and some things that couldn’t. Mr. Green was a hard worker.
He cherished the time spent visiting with family and friends. Mr. Green was a member of the Gideon’s, Friends of the NRA, Broadus Rifle Club and Grace Bible Church.
His survivors include his wife, Jeanne Green of Miles City; a daughter, Mary “Peggy” (Ron) Baker of Kenmore, Wash.; two sons, Robert (Marla) Green of Belgrade and the Rev. Rick (Karen) Green of Fairview; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Survivors also include two sisters, Delores (Cecil) Kolka of Volborg and Betty Pluhar of Miles City; two brothers, Clifford (Lyla) Green of Miles City and Melvin (Helen) Green of Cohagen; and a sister-in-law, Beverly Green of Volborg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gary and Harold; a sister, Marion[; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Green.
A prayer service will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 20, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Grace Bible Church in Miles City. Interment, with full military honors provided by VFW Post #1579, will follow in the Custer County cemetery.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Grace Bible Church, The Gideon’s, American Lung Association, Stacy Memorial Hall or to the charity of one’s choice.

Charlie Dent
Charlie O. Dent, 87, died Saturday, July 8, 2006, in Seattle, Wash.
Mr. Dent was born Nov. 23, 1918, near Brusett. His parents, Edgar and Randie Kregnes Dent, were homesteaders. Mr. Dent attended Custer County High School in Miles City until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1939.
He served almost four years in Alaska, then was transferred to Iwo Jima after that island was secured.
On Oct. 24, 1945, he and Jeanne Lester were married in the Sacred Heart Church in Miles City. She died in October 2003 after 58 years of marriage.
Mr. Dent worked for more than 30 years for the United States government in Seattle. Upon his retirement from that, he was self-employed in the dairy business for 10 years.
He was a long-time and very active member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Dent served on the Honor Squad at the National Veterans’ cemetery near Seattle up until the time health problems prevented that activity.
His survivors include four children, Lester (Lynda) Dent of Tacoma, Wash., Patrick (Robin) Dent of Gig Harbor, Wash., Mary O’Connor of Bothell, Wash., and Katie Bornguessor of Las Vegas, Nev.; his grandchildren, Kevan, Alaina, Timothy, Sara, Wyatt and Jesse; and three great-grandchildren.
Survivors also include a brother, Emmore (Lucille) Dent of Kalamazoo, Mi.; a sister, Bertha Hagen of Monroe, Wash.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and George Dent; and a baby sister, Marrit.
Friends were greeted for several hours today at Bothell Funeral Home, 18224 103rd Ave., NE, Bothell, WA 98011. Graveside services will be at noon Wednesday, July 19, 2006, in Holyrood Catholic cemetery in Bothell.

Carol Umland
Carol Umland, 84, of Jordan died Friday, July 14, 2006, at the Garfield County Nursing Home in Jordan.
Carol was born on April 19, 1922, in Hazny, the daughter of Harry and Susie Clark Huston. She worked for Bausch Lomb Optical in Billings, Sohio Oil Company, and eventually the Jordan Elementary School from which she retired.
She and C.H. Umland were married in 1959.
Her survivors include her husband, C.H. “Tiny” Umland; a son, Pat Talbot of Hulett, Wyo.; a brother, David Huston of Brusett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, David Talbot.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at 10 a.m. at the Pioneer cemetery in Jordan.

Evaline Mable "Polly" Wetherelt Burley
Funeral services for Eveline Mable “Polly” Wetherelt Burley, 99, longtime Broadus resident, were held Monday afternoon, July 17, 2006, in the Broadus First Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Valley View cemetery in Broadus.
She died Friday July 14, 2006, at the Powder River Manor in Broadus.
Born June 15, 1907, in Norden, Neb., she was the daughter of Orvil and Minnie Hayford.
On June 27, 1924, she and Ira D. Burley were married . He preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 1966.
She had many jobs including working at the county courthouse, mining and caring for others, all while raising her children.
She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, crafts and visiting with her many friends. A member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, she also belonged to the First Baptist Church in Broadus.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Eathel and John Zuehlsdorff of Rock Springs, Wyo.; one sister, Rachel Hayford Swartz, and one brother, Jay Hayford; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and many special great-great-grandchildren and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Darrell, Gerald and Areld Burley; two daughters, Elaine McAfee and Helen Wilson; six brothers; four sisters; and one grandchild.
Bullis-Graves Memorial Chapel of Miles City was entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
The family requests that memorials be sent to the Powder River Manor where she spent her later years in their wonderful care.

Theresa Lynn Two Two
Theresa Lynn Two Two, originally from Ashland, was called home to be with “Maheo” after a battle with lead poisoning.
She was born Oct. 22, 1968, at Lame Deer to mother Amanda Two Two, her only child. She was raised along the Tongue River by her mother and grandmother, the late Thelma Two Two. She attended schools at Ashland Public, Colstrip and graduated from St. Labre.
After working various jobs in the Ashland and Wyoming area she later became an Licensed Practical Nurse at the University Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska.
She was the mother of four sons, Halo, the twins Rodney and Roni and J.P. Tuff. She was proud of her boys and supported them in all their endeavors.
Her survivors include her mother, Amanda Dillard and step-father, Roger Dillard Sr.; her sons, Halo Harris, Roni and Rodney Schonenbach and John Paul Tuff Lahti; her husband, Paul Lahti of Houston, Alaska; her uncles, Emil Fraser, Marvin and Vincent Two Two; her aunts, Geraldine Fisher, Delores White Crow and Donna Paul; her grandmothers, Inez, Amy and Nellie Foote; her sisters with whom she was raised, Thelma (Fisher) Hart and Yolonda Fraser-Ras. This is just her immediate family for she has an extended family too numerous to mention, which includes the Footes, the Fishers, the Harris family, the Little Whitemans, the Shoulderblades and the Whitedirts and anyone who may have been forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Richard Shoulderblade, Steve Sr. and Thelma Two Two; her uncles, Raymond, Steve Jr. and Calvin Two Two Sr.; and her aunt, Theresa Two Two.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 17, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the St. Labre Mission in Ashland.
Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of these arrangements.

Deborah Ann Blasing Martin Landrie
Deborah Ann Blasing Martin Landrie, age 56, of Duluth, Minnesota, formerly of Miles City, went to the Great Creator on July 6, 2006 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth MN as a result of a horse riding accident.
Deborah was born December 18th 1949, in Watertown, Wisconsin, the daughter of Frank Blasing, Jr. and Phyllis Brandt, both of Lake Mills, Jefferson County, Wisconsin. Deb lived in Wisconsin until 1962 when the family moved to Billings Montana. Deborah attended the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater, where she received her BA in Social Work and was in the process of obtaining her Masters. She had worked the last five years in Duluth for the Human Development Center, and was an active team member of ACT (assisted community treatment) as a case manager. Deb devoted the last few years helping complete strangers and continued on helping through her organ donation.
Deborah (Lando) was an avid horsewoman, spending most of her free time with her horse, Montego, and embraced her Pequate and Sioux Indian heritage and proudly shared her culture with her friends and co-workers. Deb was also an accomplished woodworker, making rocking horses and kid’s toys.
She is survived by her mother, Phyllis E. Hurtt, Jefferson, Wisconsin; daughter Barbara A. Highsmith of Sidney, Montana, son Robert Martin of Miles City, MT; sister, Sandra L. Wellman of Fort Atkinson, WI; brother Richard H. Blasing of Watertown, WI; 6 grand-children; 3 great–grandchildren; 4 nieces; 1 nephew; and her dear horse Montego and cat Whitney.
All are welcome to come join in a spirit walk in Deb’s memory on July 16, 2006 at 6 pm around the bonfire at River Ranch Arena, 41 Juntunen Rd. Esko, MN. All who attend are asked to bring a hot dish or a treat and a small personal item such as a photo or lock of horse main/tail to burn for Deb’s spirit walk.

Harold Lapp
Harold A. Lapp, 92, of Glendive, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, at the Glendive Medical Center.
Mr. Lapp was born March 1, 1914, in Lincoln, Neb., the son of Fred Sr. and Anna Harding Lapp. He was raised and educated in Lincoln.
Harold was united in marriage to Lilly Kraus in Nebraska. They moved to the Savage area where he worked with his brother-in-law for a short time before he bought his own farm.
Mr. and Mrs. Lapp moved to Fallon in 1945 and raised sugar beets. In 1975, he and Lilly retired from farming. They built a home near their farm where they resided for 12 years. They then moved into Glendive where they built a home and have resided since.
Mr. Lapp enjoyed gardening, yard work and he truly loved his time spent at the farm.
His survivors include his wife, Lilly of Glendive; his daughter, Betty Jimison and her husband Norman of Fallon; two brothers, Leland Lapp of Basin, Wyo., and Willis Lapp of Glendive; two sisters, Frances Piche and Hazel Bach, both of Sidney; his sister-in-law, Betty Lapp of Zero; his grandchildren, Mark Jimison, Sheryl Jimison, Vonda Lapp and Harley Lapp; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Mr. Lapp was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Robert in 1973; his brothers, Fred Jr., Henry, George, John and Frank; and his sisters, Marie Kizer, Lydia Buxbaum and Margaret Vogele.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, in the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive with the Rev. James Hageman officiating. Interment will be in the Dawson Memorial cemetery in Glendive.

James Sterhan
James Walter “Jim” Sterhan, 51, of Miles City, formerly of Bozeman. died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, at his home in Miles City.
He was born on Feb. 28, 1955, in Glendive, the son of Walter and Maxine Margaret Ennis Sterhan. Mr. Sterhan attended schools in Miles City and graduated from Custer County District High School in 1974. He attended college in Cheyenne, Wyo.
Mr. Sterhan was an aircraft mechanic and worked at Rockwell International in Palmdale, Calif., where he worked on B-1 Bombers. He later worked in Seattle for Boeing before moving to Bozeman where he worked construction.
He moved to Miles City in 2000 where he was a clerk at the Olive Hotel.
Survivors include his daughter, Kimberly Ann (Chris) Davis of Great Falls; a brother, William (Marcia) Sterhan of West Lake Village, Calif.; two sisters, Gloria (Don) Stueck and Jaki (Ben) Lindeman of Bozeman; his lifelong friend, Jeff Virag of Miles City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
At Mr. Sterhan’s request, cremation has taken place and no funeral services are planned. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Bozeman.
Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.
