Mary Gunn
Mary Gunn, 89, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006.
Born May 19, 1917, in Little Falls, N.Y., she was the daughter of Chauncey W. and Lucy Knight Owens. After her father died in 1918, her mother raised her in and near Utica, where she graduated from high school.
She attended Normal School in Oneonta and began teaching school.
In 1943, she met and married the Rev. Maurice A. Gunn of Afton, N.Y., a marriage that lasted 51 years, until he died following a debilitating stroke in 1994.
As she and her husband, a United Methodist pastor, served churches in Pennsylvania and New York they were blessed with three daughters and mourned the loss of one. They moved West to Iowa, where they lived through 28 years of Rev. Gunn’s ministry.
Mrs. Gunn first taught school briefly and completed her college degree, then turned her attention to Christian education, serving as an officer of Women’s Society of Christian Service and as a teacher training others to teach, all the while providing a warm, loving home. Along with many joys they again suffered the grief of losing a daughter.
In 1979 they followed the urge to move farther west to serve churches in eastern Oregon before retiring and settling in Miles City near their youngest daughter. There they spent 10 years actively participating in their church. After Rev. Gunn’s stroke made it impossible for him to live at home, Mrs. Gunn spent two years helping to keep his spirits up and making sure he received needed care. Upon his death in 1994, she lived at Eagles Manor in Miles City until her failing health no longer allowed her to be independent.
In 1999, she moved to Glendive Medical Center Extended Care to be close to her remaining daughter. She resided there until her death.
Besides her family and church work, Mrs. Gunn’s loves included babies, sewing, knitting and enjoying the western mountains. Her greatest interest in later years was her family genealogy. She became a certified genealogist, collecting and organizing volumes of family information, and enjoyed meeting many new cousins along the way.
Her survivors include her daughter Millie Robinson, her granddaughter Katrina and great-grandson Dalton Vickers of Glendive and her granddaughters, Marla and Elizabeth, also of Glendive.
Her parents, husband Maurice, and daughters Marilyn and Margaret preceded Mrs. Gunn in death.
Cremation has taken placed in the Eastern Montana Crematory. At her request, no services are planned. Burial will be in the Custer County cemetery with Bullis-Graves Memorial Chapel of Miles City entrusted with the arrangements.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Miles City First United Methodist Church.

Robert Regan
Robert Thomas Regan, surrounded by family, died quietly on Saturday, November 11, 2006, in Billings, Montana, where he resided for the last two years.
Bob was born on September 5, 1915, to the late J. F. (James F.) and Mary (Nugent) Regan, and raised and educated in Miles City, MT. He received a scholarship from Northwestern University but, during the depression, returned to Miles City to help his father and brothers with the family business.
Bob was deferred from military duty because the critical skills he possessed were required in the construction of military bases throughout the Western US. He and Mary spent the next several years traveling to that end. Bob never formally retired rather, he enjoyed a long standing association with Regan Plumbing and Heating, a family business started by his father, J. F. Regan.
Mary B. Regan was the “love of his life” and, following a long-distance courtship, they joined together in marriage on June 15, 1940 in Minneapolis, MN. They shared 64 years together in Miles City where they raised six sons, giving them roots to grow and wings to fly. A large community of friends was created along the way. Bob was a humble man but his pride in and love for his wife and family had no bounds.
Bob was an avid golfer in his day, having played numerous courses throughout the West with Mary and his golfing buddies. He was known to enjoy a Scotch and water. Bob was a life-long member and supporter of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City and other charities.
Bob is survived by his sons, Robert, Jr. (Mary) of Nashville, TN; Joseph (Barb) of Miles City, MT; Michael (Melissa) of Eureka, CA; John of Livingston, MT; Pat (Cathy) of Cle Elum, WA; and Dan of Helena, MT; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved Mary; parents (J. F. and Mary); three older brothers, James (Elva), John and Ed (Peggy).
Bob will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and attentive grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved children and his eyes sparkled this past Halloween when passing out candy to the local children who visited his nursing home that evening. He was a wise elder with a warm smile and dry sense of humor. He will be deeply missed.

Cora Engdahl
Cora C. Engdahl, 98, of Billings, formerly of Jordan, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2006, at her daughter’s home in Billings.
Born on Oct. 26, 1908, in Helena, she was the daughter of Lucien Onesime and Annie Josephine (Deranleau) Forcier. The family moved to Moore and then onto Piniele, near Hammond, where Mrs. Engdahl attended grade school. She attended one year of high school in South Dakota and then attended high school in Broadus and graduated as the valedictorian.
She attended a semester at the University of Montana in Missoula and then Eastern Montana College in Billings where she earned her teaching certificate. She moved to Jordan in 1930 and began teaching at the Hellcreek School.
On Dec. 1, 1930, she and Lester Engdahl were married at Miles City and they made their home on the ranch at Hellcreek.
Mrs. Engdahl taught school for another year and then stayed at the ranch to raise her family and work the ranch. She was a full working partner with her husband in everything that needed to be done around the ranch. She was called on to run to town for this and that, to tend the sheep camp (to deliver food and water to the herders), to help gather sheep and doctor lambs, and to tend the garden.
For many years after the children were gone, she went along with Mr. Engdahl to help with feeding sheep and cattle or whatever she could help with. At docking time, she always did the vaccinating, right up until the sheep were sold when she was 91. After docking, she would go home and prepare a full dinner.
Mr. Engdahl died in 1995 and Mrs. Engdahl remained on the ranch until May 2005 when, due to her health, she moved to Billings.
She enjoyed her yard and working with flowers. Mrs. Engdahl was fortunate to be able to do her own yardwork, mowing and watering, into her 90s.
Reading was important to her and she kept up with the “world” by reading and watching the news. In early years, she completed many crocheted and tatted items. She looked forward to and enjoyed holiday family gatherings where she would be joining her sister, children and grandchildren. Most of all, however, she enjoyed her home and being on the ranch. She was a member of St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan and the Range Riders Reps.
Her survivors include her son Robert and his wife Jane of Jordan; her daughter, Arlys and her husband Ted Rieger of Billings; a sister, Eva Moeller of Miles City; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Engdahl of Jordan; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Larry in 1999; and two brothers, Wilfred “Bud” Forcier and Lucien Onesime Forcier Jr. “Boy.”
Cremation has taken place. A Vigil service will be Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at 7:30 p.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan. A Funeral Mass will be Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at 10 a.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall in Jordan. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in the Calvary cemetery in Miles City.
Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home of Jordan is in charge of arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan, the Jordan Ambulance Fund or to the charity of one’s choice.
