Molly Grace Stecher
Molly Grace Stecher, precious tiny baby girl of Brad and Catherine (Buck) Stecher, was born and called to heaven on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, in Billings.
Molly is survived by her parents Brad and Catherine, big sister Lillian all of Billings; her grandparents, Jim Hinman of Miles City, Paula and Don Wargo of Roundup, Pat and Penny Stecher of Everett, Wash., and David Erlandson of Sedro-Woolley, Wash.; her great-grandparents, Glen and Mary Ann Seehorn of Mt. Vernon, Wash., and Margrate Viall of LaFlorr, Fla.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandma, Patricia Erlandson; her paternal great-grandparents, Bill and Betty Stecher; and her maternal great- grandparents, Oris and Lucile Warford, Bill Viall and Richard Hinman.
Molly will be forever loved and missed dearly.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, at 11:30 a.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County cemetery in Miles City.

Cornelia Elizabeth McQuiston Harbaugh
Cornelia Elizabeth McQuiston Harbaugh, age 96, of Jordan died on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at the Garfield County Nursing Home in Jordan.
Mrs. Harbaugh was born on September 24, 1910 in Soldier, Kansas, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Duly) McQuiston. She came to Montana with her parents, two sisters and one brother in the spring of 1919 from Missouri. Her father bought an established ranch in the Dilo-Benzien area of Garfield County. The family raised Hereford cattle for many years.
She graduated from Sumatra High School in 1927. Following graduation, she attended Normal College at Eastern in Billings, Montana. She started working at the courthouse in Jordan where she worked several years, until she met and married Paul Harbaugh in 1933. In 1934, David Larry was born. They all resided at the home ranch in Jordan. Larry died in 1979. The couple continued living at the ranch for a total of 62 years.
Mrs. Harbaugh worked in every office in the county courthouse except the Clerk of Court. She was elected to be County Treasurer for two terms and worked as deputy treasurer for two terms. All in all she served 27 years of service for the county.
The couple were great gardeners; they also ran a hunting and guide service for many years. She was a great cook and canned much of the garden produce. She was noted for her great flower beds and beautiful yard. After Mr. Harbaugh died in 1995, she eventually moved into the Garfield Health Center where she resided for more than six years.
Mrs. Harbaugh belonged to the Presbyterian Church and was a session member. She was an Eastern Star Lodge Member and a Royal Neighbor. She was Garfield County Fair superintendent for many, many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Larry, her husband Paul, two sisters: Hazel Johnson and Margaret Welsh and a brother, Edward. She is survived by a granddaughter, Barbara Jo Morgan of Iowa; her sisters-in-law, Margie Harbaugh of Jordan, Mont.; Vivian Harbaugh of Miles City, Mont.; and Eleanor Harbaugh of Provo, Utah; two great-granddaughters: Kendalyn and Tristan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2007 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Jordan. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 15, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in Jordan. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Pioneer cemetery.
Should friend desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Brooks Study
Brooks D. Study, 83, of Sheridan, Wyo., died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, in Sheridan Manor.
Mr. Study was born Oct. 31, 1923, in Bartlett, Iowa, to John and Rosetta Tysor Study. The family moved to the Bowman Hills area near Hulett, Wyo., when he was eight years of age where he grew up and attended schools.
He went to work on the Parks Ranch around Weston, Wyo., where he herded sheep. He then worked on various ranches in the Weston area.
On March 21, 1949, he and Cathern Holdeman were married in Sheridan. He worked as a carpenter for a short time in Gillette before returning to ranching in the Weston area.
In 1960 the Studys moved to the Sam Row Ranch near Biddle.
He and Alvina Rosencranz were married in July 31, 1989, in Miles City.
Mr. Study was a county commissioner for Powder River County in Montana from 1987 to 1993. The family moved to Broadus in 1990 before moving back to Biddle. He also had a mail route from Biddle to Alzada from 1976 until 2002. Mr. Study moved to Sheridan in 2002.
Mr. Study was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hulett.
His survivors include two daughters, Linda Shannon of Big Horn, Wyo., and Barbara Fleck of Glen Eden, Ore.; two step-children, Bonnie Hofer of Miles City and Doug Nesbit of Susanville, Calif.; two grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives; two brothers; and four sisters.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at Champion Ferries Funeral Home in Sheridan, Wyo. Father David Duprey will officiate. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery.
Memorials in memory of Mr. Study may be made to the Powder River Museum, Broadus, MT 59317.

Viola Geist
Viola Geist, 91, of Miles City died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at the Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City.
Viola Schmidt was born to John and Rose Schmidt on Sept. 10, 1915, in Angela. She grew up in Regent, N.D., and attended the Regent country school.
On Nov. 24, 1932, she and Edward Geist were married . She worked at the Beatrice Creamery in Regent until moving to Miles City in 1937. She worked at Miles City Steam Laundry until they were transferred to Billings in 1959.
While living in Billings she was employed by Kline Cleaners. Upon retirement, in 1979, they returned to Miles City to live.
Mrs. Geist is survived by one son, Raymond (Mary) Geist of Lincoln; a daughter-in-law, Joanne Geist of Fargo, N.D.; a brother, Ervin Schmidt of Miles City; a half-sister, Vi Ziepfel of Hamilton, Ohio; three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; one son, Leroy; two brothers, Albert and Art; a sister, Lentina Higgins; and a half-sister, Trudy Hundley.
Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County cemetery.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Julia Butcher
Julia Butcher, 50, of Miles City died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at her home in Miles City.
She was born in Fort Carson, Colo., on June 25, 1956, the daughter of Bruce L. and Eva Valetta McKnight Westling. She attended grade school in Manhattan, Kan., and then moved to Maryland where she graduated from South Carroll High School in Winfield, Md.
After her schooling, she began working various jobs as a security guard and waitress. She remained in the east until 1995 when she moved to Miles City. She worked at County Market and took some college courses at Miles Community College.
She enjoyed fishing, rock hunting, drawing, spending time with her family and especially loved time spent with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her kind and giving heart.
Her survivors include her father, Bruce Westling of Woodbine, Md.; her daughter, Terra (Dennis Sorrentino) Evans of Miles City; three grandchildren, Kori Haines, Jarrod Sorrentino and Caleb Sorrentino; an aunt, Gloria Westling; two sisters, Linda Mielke and Charlotte Collins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will be at a later date.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Tom Patikas
Tom Patikas, 66, of Miles City died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, in Wenatchee, Wash.
Mr. Patikas was born May 2, 1940, in Miles City to Mary and Nick Patikas. He attended schools in Miles City.
He worked as a meat cutter in Miles City, Jordan and Broadus. Mr. Patikas worked at Pine Hills School for Boys in Miles City for 13 years. He also worked in Gillette, Wyo., and at Home on the Range for Boys in North Dakota.
In the 1980s, he moved to Washington where he resided until his death.
Mr. Patikas loved to fish and hunt with his father.
His survivors include his sister, Maureen Patikas of Miles City; two nieces, Carla Weston of Walla Walla, Wash., and Sue Williams of Miles City; and his ex-wife, Rae Ann of Wenatchee.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an older sister.

Robert Joseph Camrud
Robert Joseph Camrud, 76, of Miles City, formerly of Wolf Point, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at the Veterans Affairs Nursing Home in Miles City.
Mr. Camrud was born in Benrud on Nov. 21, 1930, the son of Joseph and Ingeborg Brynjelsen Camrud. He attended schools in the Benrud community and graduated from high school in Wolf Point. Following his schooling, he entered the United States Army where he served for two years.
Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Wolf Point where he farmed his entire life. In 2002, he moved to Miles City where he lived at the Veterans Nursing Home until the time of his death.
Mr. Camrud loved his dogs. He was a member of the Elks and a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans.
His survivors include eight daughters: Tina (John Peters) Camrud, Bobbi (Jess) Camrud-Willson and Tia (John Patterson) Camrud, all of Miles City, Nancy (Kerry) Ketchum, Jodi (Phillip Gill) Camrud, Kristie Camrud and Rynda Camrud, all of Billings, and Renee (Chris Benson) Camrud of Bemidji, Minn.; one step-son, Ty Jensen of Billings; a brother, Morris Camrud of Billings; 20 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Iver Camrud in 2006.
Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Wolf Point. Interment will follow in the Greenwood cemetery with full military honors.
Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point is in charge of arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church.

Howard Ross
Howard Ross, 80, of Chicago, Ill., father of Wendi Ross of Miles City, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, in Chicago, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Ross was born May 11, 1926, to Minnie and Charlie Ross in Chicago where he lived most of his life. When he was 17 years of age, he lied about his age to be able to join the Navy were he became a Navy Fighter Pilot and fought in World War II.
He was a very successful businessman, working until the day that he died.
In addition to his loving daughter, Wendi Ross of Miles City, his survivors include his beloved wife, Billie nee Gillman; his other loving children, Andi (Robert) Hannus of Chicago, Marion Ross of France, Scott (Pam) Ross of Glenco, Ill., Teri (Michael Klein) of Chicago and step-daughter Sue (Gary) Butman of Chicago; his grandchildren, Katherine, Brian, Jacob and Ethan; and his dear brother, Edward (Rennee) Ross of Chicago.
Mr. Ross was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ester Winston.
Private family services were held in Chicago on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007.
Arrangements were made by Westlawn Jewish Funerals.

Ethel Bender
Ethel B. Bender, 96, of Miles City died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at the Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City.
Mrs. Bender was born on March 5, 1910, at Nye, the daughter of William and Isabel Stewart Guthrie. She grew up on her parents’ farm four miles north of Absarokee and graduated from the Absarokee High School.
She decided to become a teacher and graduated from Eastern Montana College in Billings. She taught rural schools in Stillwater County, including the Dean School where she had 35 students and all eight grades. Later she taught at Lavina, Byam, Sumatra and Park City.
On Aug. 23, 1941, she and Albert R. Bender, who was principal of the North School in Laurel, at that time, were married .
For two years during World War II she was a timekeeper at Boeing Aircraft Co. in Renton, Wash.
Some interesting events of her lifetime are as follows. She rode her horse the four miles to Absarokee High School each day during the four years. She successfully taught the most challenging school in the county. In 1939 she and her friend traveled by train to both World Fairs, in San Francisco and New York City, covering many states of the United States.
She enjoyed the Scottish programs in Miles City, and for many continuous years she and her husband attended the Robby Burns celebrations and Caledonian Society programs. She corresponded quite often with her cousins in Scotland and England. Several of them came to visit with the Benders as a result.
Mrs. Bender had a strong urge and desire to travel to her parents’ place at Absarokee about four times a year. She loved the outdoors and the countryside. She enjoyed the church circle meetings and the Retired Teachers Association meetings, and also, the Christian Women meetings.
At the age of 9 years, she and her three brothers and parents traveled to Scotland to visit relatives, staying almost a year. She admired her nephew, Raymond Guthrie and wife, Virginia, and their children, Colter and Aspen, of Absarokee.
Her survivors include her husband, Albert Bender of Miles City; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her three brothers. Her brothers were all younger than she.
Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Miles City. Interment will be Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at 4 p.m. at the Stillwater County cemetery in Columbus.

Earl Nicholson
Earl T. Nicholson, longtime Gillette, Wyo., native and former Miles City resident, died at his home near Keyhole Lake, Wyo., on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, from natural causes.
He was born, one of seven children, on Aug. 11, 1919, in Gillette, the son of Homer and Mae Dean Nicholson, residents and homesteaders of Campbell County near Reno Junction.
Mr. Nicholson worked for various ranches in the area during and after graduation from Campbell County High School in 1938. He also worked on the construction of highway 387 to Midwest.
Mr. Nicholson entered the Army Air Corps in September 1939, serving nearly three years in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant in 1941.
Mr. Nicholson also was awarded the Commendation Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, the American Defense Service Medal, the American Theater of Operations Service Medal, the Philippine Liberation Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters and the Good Conduct Medal Bronze Cluster with 5 Loops.
On Nov. 3, 1957, he and Mary Ellen Allison were married in Sedalia, Mo.
Mr. Nicholson retired from the Air Force with nearly 21 years of active duty service with the rank of Master Sergeant. After his military retirement, he returned to Wyoming.
He worked for Stockmen’s Motor Company as a car salesman for a number of years. He then moved to Billings to work for the Billings Gazette.
From there, he retired and moved to Miles City to help care for his mother-in-law. In 1997, Mr. Nicholson moved back to Wyoming near Keyhole Lake with his wife, Mary Ellen, to be closer to family.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and visiting with friends and family. He also had a great love for the American Legion Post No. 42 Baseball team, which he coached and supported during the mid-1960s. Mr. Nicholson also was a past Lions Club member, past member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member in the American Legion with 48 continuous years of service and holding the position of Post 42 Commander during the 1967 term.
His survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen of Moorcroft, Wyo.; his sons: Tom of Boise, Idaho, Butch (Berti) of Benallio, N.M., Ford (Marie) of Tucson, Ariz., and Terry (Nick) of Moorcroft; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Nicholson was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette with Pastor Donavon Voigt of the Moorcroft Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pisgah cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post No. 42.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Crook County Hospice. Memorials and condolences may be sent in Mr. Nicholson’s name in care of Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home, 210 W. 5th Street, Gillette, Wyoming 82716 or via the Internet at www.stevensonwilson.com.
