Bernice Boughton
Bernice Boughton, 93, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at her home in Ronan with her husband, Gene, and daughters, Sara and Jessie, at her side.
Born in Ridge, Minn., on Sept. 15, 1913, she was the daughter of Otis Gaslin and Elizabeth Farnum. At the age of 5 years, she moved with her family to a lifetime of ranching north of Jordan.
She was united in marriage to Bert A. Boughton in 1932. To that marriage four children were born: Bert D., Sarah, Jessie and Jan. Her husband, Bert A., preceded her in death in 1969.
In 1971, she and Gene Boughton were married and he has been at her side since. They sold the ranch at Jordan and moved to the Ronan area in 1989 where they reside at the present time.
Mrs. Boughton is survived by her husband, Gene of Ronan; a son Bert D. (Mary Ann) of Miles City; and three daughters, Sarah Tobel (Richard) of Ronan, Jessie Merwin (Ron) of Ronan and Jan Bickle (John) of Baker.
One of the great loves of her life were her grandchildren, Tim (Linda), Dave (Karyl), Penney (Tim), Dee (Carla), Bryon (Kerie), Gene (Lea), Joe (Dana), Ian (Dar), Mindi, Mickie (Mike) and Liz; and her great-grandchildren, Andy, Katie, Taylor, Katie, T.J., Emilee, Connor, Cole, Braden, Rhianna, Eric, Shawn, Ashley, Cierra, Makinzie, Lindsey, Myles, Levi, Micah, Jake, Karlee and Justin.
Bernice, “Grandma Toots, ” was a true and grand Montana ranch lady who will be long and lovingly remembered by those who have been so fortunate and honored to have her pass through their lives.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2007, at the Custer County cemetery in Miles City.
Arrangements are under the direction of Shrider-Thompson Funeral Services of Ronan and Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City.

Rev. Thomas Russel Hastings
Rev. Thomas Russel Hastings, 81, of Hardin, former Miles City resident, died Monday, March 26, 2007, following a battle with lymphoma cancer.
He was born Aug. 29, 1925, in Eldarado, Kan., to Samuel and Ginny Bauer Hastings. In 1927, the family moved to Sasakwa, Okla., where he was raised. He worked in the oil fields in Illinois and Shelby, never dreaming he would someday live most of his life in Montana.
In November 1943, he was drafted into the Army, graduating from paratrooper school in October 1944, then served in the 541st Parachute Battalion through 1945. Following his discharge, he attended and graduated from Howard Payne College in Brownwood, Texas.
On May 28, 1949, he and Doris Aleen Harper were married in Star, Texas. The couple lived in Kansas City, Kan., where Rev. Hastings attended and graduated from the Central Baptist Theological Seminary in 1954. He ministered in South English, Iowa, Lead, S.D., Miles City, Crow Agency and Hardin, retiring in 1992.
Long after retirement, he filled the pulpits for many other pastors. As a pastor, he was Pastor of the Year in 1960. He was active with all of his congregations and was a much beloved minister, father, grandfather and friend.
Survivors include his children, Howard (Mary) Hastings of Indiana, Pa., Lou Hamilton of Hardin, Lydia (Jay) Skoog of Fort Shaw and Lynda Buckland of Colorado; his grandchildren, Dori and Karel Hastings, Sarah Walck, Tom, Jon (Angela), Eric, Aaron, Linnea and Joshua Skoog, Krystal (Brian) and Zach (Becky) Buckland; and his great-grandchildren, Dominic Gilbert, Kyler Buckland, Ezra and Anneka Skoog.
His parents; wife, Doris; sister, Lillian Ruth Hastings; and brothers, Howard, Robert and Stanley, preceded him in death. He was the last of his siblings to go home to the Lord.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2007, in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be at a later date in Texas.
Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Parker Henry Lordemann
Parker Henry Lordemann, infant son of Nathan Lee and Carrey Elizabeth Storey Lordemann, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Pa., after a valiant fight with congenital heart disease.
Parker was born on Feb. 10, 2007, in Greenville, N.C., at the Pitt County Memorial Hospital. He was a feisty little guy who put up a brave fight. Though he was only on earth for a brief time, his charisma touched all who knew him. The nurses who cared for him in North Carolina referred to him as “the boy with the most precious face.” He loved to stick his tongue out at anyone who was talking to him. The nursing staff quickly learned that Parker didn’t like IVs and would stubbornly remove any that weren’t securely attached. His personality overwhelmed those who were fortunate to spend time with him, as well as those who only got to know him through updates and pictures.
Parker’s survivors include his parents, Nathan and Carrey Lordemann of Greenville; his sister, Marisa Evelyn Lordemann of the family home; paternal grandparents, Dennis and Nancy Lordemann of Billings, formerly of Miles City; paternal great-grandparents, Hank and Evelyn Lordemann of Glendive; paternal great-grandmother, Martha Yarbrough of Knoxville, Tenn.; maternal grandparents, Donna and Larry Woods of Maryville, Tenn.; maternal great-grandmother, Molly Bilyeu of Alcoa, Tenn.; maternal great-grandparents, Willard and Wanda Garrison of Manairdville, Tenn.; maternal great-great-grandmother, Roxie Queen of Knoxville, Tenn.; his aunts and uncles, April and Rich Streeter of Billings, Lacey Lordemann of Billings, Joshua Garrison of Charlotte, N.C., Devon Storey, Shannon Storey and Deanne Woodard, all of Atlanta, Ga.; cousins, Shade Streeter, Ireland Streeter and Ella Thonney, all of Billings; and numerous great-aunts and great-uncles in Montana and Tennessee.
Parker was preceded in death by his grandfather, Herb Storey.
Mass of the Angels will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2007, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive with Father Joseph Ponessa officiating. Rite of Committal will be in the Dawson Memorial cemetery in Glendive.
Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.

Frank Kane Jr.
Memorial Services for Frank Kane Jr., 84, of Bozeman were Saturday, March 24, 2007, at Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel, 113 S. Willson Ave. in Bozeman. Interment will be in Broadus at a later date.
Mr. Kane died Sunday, March 18, 2007.
He was born May 8, 1922, in Kruger to Frank and Alma Smith Kane. His childhood was spent at the family homestead with his brother, Delbert and sister, Donna, on Butte Creek in Powder River County. Mr. Kane attended Butte Creek School through the eighth grade.
On Dec. 17, 1941, he and Betty Miller were married in Broadus. Four daughters were born to them between 1944 and 1956.
Mr. Kane was a hard working man with a strong work ethic who often worked two and three jobs with honesty and integrity to support his family. He worked on several sheep and cattle ranches in southeastern Montana from the 1940s through the 1960s.
The family moved to Bozeman in 1966 where he worked for McLees Sheet Metal and Montana State University. He was superintendent of custodians at MSU from 1968 to 1987 when he retired. After retirement, he continued to work at McLees Sheet Metal until his death.
He loved to play his many accordions and was actively involved in accordion and fiddle jams. In his younger days, he and his wife played at country dances. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, visiting and telling stories. Mr. Kane was a proud, devoted family man and a friend to all. He was always ready to help anyone in need.
His survivors include his daughters, Karen (Gary) Huckins of Miles City, Shirley (Doug) Stewart of Missoula, Linda McDonald of Bozeman, and Leota (Mike) Pilon of Bozeman; former sons-in-law, Cliff Allen of Biddle and Wade McDonald of Bozeman; and sister, Donna (Cliff) Bryant of Alix, Alberta, Canada.
He also is survived by nine grandchildren, Greg Stewart, Kristi (Patrick) Haggarty, Misti (Jon) Fines, Sean Allen, Heather Allen, Cameron McDonald, Cody Pilon, Sherri Odlin, and Kristen Hale; nine great-grandchildren, Toni, Jordan, Dane and Bailey Stewart; Brandan, Kiernan, and Callan Haggarty; Jack Fines and Erick Allen; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families, to whom he was very close.
Mr. Kane was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, on July 24, 1989; his parents, Frank and Alma Kane; his brother and sister-in-law, Delbert and Marian Kane; and his great-grandson, Rainor Duke Stewart.
Memorials may be made to the Powder River Historical Museum, Broadus, MT 59317; or to a charity of one’s choice.

Tashina Thorp
Tashina Thorp, 24, of Miles City died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at her home in Miles City after brief illness.
Born on June 11, 1982, in Miles City, she was the daughter of Bill Rothe and Dawn Thorp. She attended schools in Miles City and Dull Knife Memorial College in Lame Deer where she received two presidential awards for her grades.
She moved throughout Montana, working various jobs before settling with her daughter, Shatara’s father, Chad Christian. They moved to Miles City in 2004.
She met Sam Pearson in 2005 and together they had a son in 2006, Isaiah. She worked as a cashier for Walmart for eight months.
She loved to scrapbook, camp, fish and do most anything outdoors, but her main passion was her children.
Her survivors include her husband, Samuel Pearson of Miles City; two children, Shatara and Isaiah; and her mother, Dawn Thorp, and her step-father, Kevin Anderson of Miles City.
Survivors also include two sisters, Cassie and Misty Anderson, both of Miles City; her grandparents, Sharon Ervin (John) of Lake Havasu, Ariz., and Ward Thorp Sr. of El Paso, Texas; and her great-grandmother, Geraldine Brody of Miles City.
A barbecue for family and friends to celebrate Tashina’s life will be held Saturday, April 14, 2007, at noon at the family home.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made at the Community First Federal Credit Union for an educational fund for Tashina’s children.

Karl Herman Ullrich
Karl Herman Ullrich, 86, of Broadus died peacefully on Monday, March 26, 2007, at the Powder River Manor in Broadus.
Mr. Ullrich was born in a rock house built by his father in Wason Flats, 60 miles north of Miles City, on Jan. 28, 1921. He attended a German speaking elementary school five miles from their homestead. In 1927, the family bought the Bud Devasher land, northeast of Broadus, where Mr. Ullrich would spend most of the rest of his life. He attended the Durst School, two miles north of their new home, through the eighth grade.
During the drought of the 1930s, the Ullrich family moved to Billings to find employment. Mr. Ullrich worked at various odd jobs including cleaning out flooded basements, and hauling produce door-to-door to supplement the family income. He graduated from high school while the family resided in Billings.
Mr. Ullrich served in the United States Army during World War II as a medic. In 1940, they moved back to the family ranch near Broadus and built the new ranch house in 1946.
He and Ruby Griff were married in 1948. The couple resided in a dugout and worked for Elmer Watters. They bought the Ullrich ranch from his parents in 1958, where Mr. Ullrich worked until retiring to the Eagles Manor in Miles City in 2003.
Mr. and Mrs. Ullrich had two sons, Victor (born in 1953) and Vernon (born in 1957). The couple later separated.
Mr. Ullrich was a man of very few words, but his kindness and unconditional love will long be remembered by his family and friends. He was a master rancher and cattleman who had walked every inch of his ranch (mostly in his one-man war against weeds). His grandchildren have golden memories of long walks, being pulled in the wagon, horseback rides, ice skating on the river, and the endless supply of butterscotch candies in his front shirt pocket. His children knew him as a man with a quiet determination, an unquestionable work ethic and a love of the land and the Powder River. He was an expert card player.
A member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Broadus, he also was a longstanding member of the Broadus Farmers Union.
His survivors include two brothers, Richard of Puyallup, Wash., and Albert of Chinook; one sister, Ruth Watters of Helena;
He also is survived by two sons, Victor (Laura Lee) of the family ranch and Vern (Kay) of Biddle; the loves of his life, his grandchildren, Amy (Tom) Minow of Broadus, Dr. Jennifer (Rob) Mattingley of La Crosse, Wis., Lieutenant Doug (Laura) Ullrich of Tucson, Ariz., Adam and Jason Ullrich of Biddle; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Leah and Hudson Mattingley and Miranda and Kyle Minow; and more than 65 nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ullrich was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Frieda Ullrich; his sisters, Esther (Tony) Gali, Gertrude (Fred) Schillreff and Freida Ullrich; his sisters-in-law, Ilene Ullrich and Florence Ullrich; and a brother-in-law, George Watters.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 31, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Broadus. Interment will be at a later date.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Pastoral Fund in Broadus.

Barbara Jo White
Barbara Jo White, 57, of Forsyth, former Miles City resident, died Thursday, March 22, 2007, at her home in Forsyth.
She was born Feb. 5, 1950, in Miles City to Allen and JoAnne Ridenour. She was raised and received her education in Miles City, graduating from Custer County District High School. She worked at various jobs in Miles City, Ashland, Sheridan, Wyo., and Forsyth.
She married Bernard White in 1970 and to this union her son. Jamie. was born.
In the early 1980s she returned to Miles City and later moved to Forsyth where she resided until the time of her death. She was currently employed at the Rosebud Health Care Center.
She enjoyed needlepoint, crochet, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Her survivors include her son, Jamie (JoDean) White of Miles City; her brothers, Kenneth (Lisa) Ridenour of Miles City and Allen (Rachel) Ridenour of West Yellowstone; her sister, Chris (Vince) Dillabough of Miles City; and her grandchildren, Avery and Makenzie.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Memorial Service will be Thursday, March 29, 2007. at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel of Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Burial will be at a later date.

Debra Dee Siegle
Debra Dee Siegle, 52, of Miles City died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at the Horizon Hospice House in Billings after a two and one-half year battle with cancer.
She was born Feb. 8, 1955, in Miles City to Albert John Siegle and Lorraine Helen Jones Siegle. She was baptized at the Community Presbyterian Church in February of 1955 and was confirmed at the Grace Lutheran Church on April 27, 1969. She attended elementary school in Terry and graduated from Terry High School in 1973.
She started working at Reynold’s Market in Terry during high school and continued to work there for several years. She graduated from Dawson Community College in Glendive in 1977 with an associate’s degree in mid-management.
Upon graduation from DCC she received a scholarship to attend Eastern Montana College in Billings. She graduated from EMC with honors in 1980 with a bachelor of science degree in business. While attending EMC, she sewed and designed theater costumes.
Following graduation from EMC, she began work at Rowland, Thomas and Company in Miles City. She continued to work there as an accountant until her death. She was a member of the Montana Society of Certified Public Accountants.
A member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City, she served as Sunday school superintendent for more than two decades. She also was a member of the Miles City CASA/GAL (Court Appointed Special Advocate/ Guardian Ad Litum) Board and was one of the last presidents of the Miles City chapter of the Business and Professional Women.
She enjoyed gardening and flowers, garage sales and collecting antiques. She liked to travel, touring Beijing, China and the Great Wall in 1998 and driving throughout Switzerland and Germany in 2002 and 2003. She was also well known for the wide variety of homemade candy plates she gave away during the holidays.
Following her cancer diagnosis, she spent two autumns in Connecticut receiving cancer treatment. She was known for her caring spirit and gentle heart. Her concern for others overshadowed her concern for herself.
Her survivors include her brother, Del Siegle and his wife Betsy McCoach of Mansfield, CT.
She was preceded in death by her mother in 1990 and her father in 2006.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City. Interment will follow at the Marsh cemetery at March at 2:30 p.m.
Should friends desire, memorial donations may be sent to either the Trinity Lutheran Church of Miles City or the Horizon Hospice House in Billings.

Robert Peterson
Funeral services for Robert N. Peterson, 82, of Fort Benton, former Miles City resident and an independent carpenter and Army veteran, were Monday afternoon, March 19, 2007, in the Community Bible Church in Fort Benton. Interment, with military honors, was in the Riverside cemetery in Fort Benton.
Mr. Peterson died Thursday, March 15, 2007, in a Great Falls hospital following a short illness.
He was born May 28, 1924, in Miles City to Ernest and Anna Johnson Peterson.
Mr. Peterson served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1947. An independent carpenter, he worked on ranches in the surrounding area.
On Sept. 27, 1971, he and Frances A. Arthur were married in Lewistown.
His survivors include his wife, Frances Peterson of Fort Benton; his brother, Earl Peterson, and his wife, Loretta, of Fairfield; his sisters, Marie, and her husband, Joe Hafla of Miles City and Dorothy and her husband, Bill Catto, of Deer Park, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Albert Peterson; and a sister-in-law, Donna.
Benton Funeral Home of Fort Benton handled the funeral arrangements.
