Claude "Jack" Lytton

PABLO - Claude "Jack" Lytton, 84, of Pablo, died at his home on May 24, 2000. He was born July 2, 1915, in Lampasas, Texas, the son of J.W. "Doc" and Eva Hickman Lytton.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Everett, and a sister-in-law, Ruth, of Sheridan, Wyo.

In 1944, he married Ida Rose Blakeman in Hardin. They had five children. He is survived by his wife Ida Rose; sons Dan Lytton, Lee Lytton and Wayne Lytton; daughters, Sandra Lytton Bick and Jackie Lytton; 13 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He graduated from high school in Lamita, Texas. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps camp there. He spent several years cowboying and working on ranches, trapping, guiding hunters and mining coal. He and his family lived north of Arvada, Wyo., on the Powder River. He helped neighbors butcher beef and pigs and moved cattle and horses.

In 1961, he moved his family to Pablo. For several years he worked for the Lake County Poultry Association marketing eggs and chickens. He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for several years.

After he retired, he enjoyed starting his day having coffee at Joe's Jiffy Stop with his many friends, socializing and playing the machines. He enjoyed visiting friends and eating at the Ronan Senior Citizen Center. During his lifetime he was a skilled hunter, Boy Scout leader and a bowling enthusiast. Beginning at the age of 20, he had several bouts with cancer and fought a courageous battle.

He was a loving husband and grandfather, forever treasured in the hearts of all those who knew him.

Funeral services were held May 26 at the Pablo Christian Church.

Parley Kent

ST. IGNATIUS - Parley Albert Kent, 88, died May 23, 2000 in the Evergreen Hot Springs Convalescent Center in Hot Springs following an extended illness.

Parley was born in Lewistown, Utah, April 6, 1912, to Samuel and Annie Kent. In 1924, at the age of 12, Parley and his family moved to Montana. They settled in the Mission Valley where young Parley worked at farming and ranching.

On Dec. 2, 1939, Parley married Theda M. McBride. They lived and began their family near Charlo. In 1948, they moved to St. Ignatius. The family continued to grow and Parley went to work in the woods logging. He remained in that field of work until retiring in 1979.

Parley was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and James; a son, Leo, in 1962; daughters, Mary in 1975 and Rose in 1980. His wife, Theda, died in 1993.

Surviving are brothers, Doug of Moses Lake, Wash., and Harold of Charlo; sisters, Lettie and Verna, both of St. Ignatius, and Veda of Charlo.

Children surviving Parley are Samuel and James of St. Ignatius and Theda Ann of Anaconda. He had 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services were held May 26 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in St. Ignatius. Inurnment was in Pleasant View Cemetery. Arrangements were by Foster and Durgeloh Funeral Home of St. Ignatius.

Edith Ilona "Edie" Hall

PABLO - Edith Ilona "Edie" Hall, 75, of Pablo died June 14, 2000, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Edie was born April 13, 1925, in Bekescsaba, Hungary, to Mihaly and Judit Hrabovsky. During her youth she was a world-class swimmer and a superior gymnast. She completed her degree in teaching at Damjanics Teachers' College in Budapest, Hungary.

She spent much of World War II as a war refugee and the final months of the war in a prison camp near Spital am Pirn, Austria. There she met William W. "Bill" Hall, who brought her to the United States as his war bride. They were married in Butte on May 24, 1947.

Bill and Edie ranched near Pablo until Bill's death in December 1979. Edie continued to manage the ranch property until her death.

Edie's greatest joy was in teaching and being a friend to children and youth in the community. She and Bill chaperoned numerous school and church functions for their children, and attended every game and event in which their children played or performed. Edie also spent many years teaching physical education and coaching gymnastics and track.

Two highlights of her career included judging a state gymnastics meet and assisting in coaching the Ronan High School girls' track team to their only state championship in 1972. Edie also drove bus for the Polson School District and for the Red Cross swimming program.

During the past several years, Edie enjoyed being a grandma to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many, many "adopted" grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing bridge with her friends.

She is survived by a daughter, Marla Hall of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sons: Everett of Great Falls, Roy of Sun River and Ray of Seabeck, Wash.; six grandchildren: Kelly, Erin, Zackary, Jason, Sara and Erica; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Hilda Fabo of Alberta, Canada; several nieces and nephews, and many "adopted" children and grandchildren.

Funeral services were held June 17 at Faith Lutheran Church in Ronan. Burial followed at Lake View Cemetery in Polson. A potluck gathering was held at the Polson Senior Community Center after the burial. Pallbearers were Ron Handlos, Jack Horner, Tom McGreevey, Murph McMahon, Norm Starkel and Ernie Wiggin.

The family suggests memorials to the Shrine Children's Hospitals, National 4-H Foundation or the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America.

Shrider's Mortuary of Ronan assisted the family with funeral arrangements.

David William Lutton

POLSON - David William Lutton, 71, of Polson lost his battle with cancer June 15, 2000, at the Fort Harrison Veterans Hospital at Helena.

He was born on Feb. 18, 1929, in Missouri Valley, Iowa to Howard W. and Mary Lutton. After graduating from high school, he seved his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. Ater the military he worked as a mechanic for a Nissan dealership in Portland, Ore.

David had a great love for music. He was a talented guitar player and singer and was part of the Rocky Mountain Rangers Band. He was also active in the Polson VFW Club, serving as Vice Commander.

He was preceded in death by his father Howard Lutton; mother Mary Ellen Lindsey; brothers Murray, Gene and Richard Lutton; sisters Peggy Graves and Grace Howard.

Survivors include his son David Lutton Jr. of Polson; brother Warren Lutton of Bremerton, Wash.; sister Shirley Hutchins of Portland, and nine nieces and nephews.

Inurnment graveside services with military honors were held Monday at Lake View Cemetery in Polson. Arrangements were by Retz Funeral Home in Helena and Grogan Funeral Home of Polson.

Archie A. Forman

POLSON - Archie A. Forman, 91, of Polson died of natural causes June 19, 2000, at St. Luke Extended Care Facility in Ronan.

Archie was born Feb. 15, 1909, in Kalispell, to William and Dora Forman. He grew up and attended school in Irvine Flats near Polson. He married Lorna Wemple on March 25, 1933, in Polson.

He farmed in the Valley View area until retiring in 1967. They moved to their home near Rollins on Flathead Lake and continued to live there for about 20 years before moving back to Polson.

Archie was active in the Rollins Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a former fire chief. He was instrumental in helping start the Polson Rural Fire District. Archie also liked to fish.

He is preceded in death by his wife Lorna in July of 1997, son Donald, four sisters and one brother.

He is survived by five children - Archie E. Forman and his wife Barbara of Ronan, Tom Forman of Polson, Linda Richwine of Portland, Lorna Fox and her husband Edward of White Sulphur Springs and Nancy Ebel and her husband Doug of Florence; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren, and four great-great- grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Wednesday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Polson, with the Rev. John Olson officiating.

The family suggests memorials to the St. Luke Extended Care Facility, Ronan.

Cremation and arrangements were by Grogan Funeral Home and Crematory of Polson.
