Rose Petrin, 87

Rose Julia Petrin, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend of many, died Tuesday. After 87 years of a very healthy and happy life, she quickly succumbed to a short bout with cancer, while visiting her daughter in Renton, Wash.

Rose was born March 27, 1917, in Butte, to Joseph and Agnes Malensek, who settled here from Austria. She was married to Edward P. Petrin for 51 years, until he died in 1987. She lived at 2300 Spruce St. in the McQueen addition for 40 years in a house that she helped build. She was an active parishioner at Holy Savior Parish and School. In 1976, Rose and Ed moved to the Country Club Estates when McQueen was ruined, at which time she became a parishioner of Holy Spirit. Although she worked off and on, first as an au pair and homemaker for various prominent families in Butte, and later at the 45-Club and John's Pork Chop, she strongly preferred to be the outstanding wife and mother that she was. Her homemade breads and pies, pasties, sarma, ravioli, bakalar, klobase and povitica were the most popular ethnic dishes among her consistently delicious cuisine. And her children vow she must have had the cleanest house in Butte. Since she lost her husband Ed, she enjoyed prolonged visits with her children and grandchildren during the fall and winter months, and frequent luncheons with her best friends at home. And they all enjoyed her the same.

Rose is survived by her children, Lavenia Malesich, Yakima, Wash., and her children Bill Jr., Carol, and Joe; Judy Petruska, Renton, and her husband Nick and their children Therese, and Paul; and Edward P. Petrin Jr., Santa Barbara, Calif., and his wife Lisa and their children Meredith, Christopher, and Amy; great-grandchildren, Dannelle, Mary, Sarah, Jay, Tad, Kyle, Logan, Cameron and Kyla Ann; sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Carl Turk; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

At Rose's request, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Spirit Church, followed by a procession to Holy Cross Cemetery, and then back to Holy Spirit Church for a luncheon.
