Garnett "Bub" Graves

Garnett "Bub" Graves, 78, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2003 at his home in Bigfork. He was born Feb. 1, 1925 in Westmoreland, Tenn., and grew up in Indianapolis, Ind.
In 1944, he married Martha Evelyn Badgley and moved to the Roseburg, Ore., area in 1952. His wife preceded him in death in 1980.
He is survived by 12 sisters; one brother; son David G. Graves of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter Jonelle Jones of Medford, Ore.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, at Lone Pines Cemetery in Bigfork.
Burial arrangements were made through Buffalo Hill Funeral Home in Kalispell.

Donald Ray "Don" Hayes

Donald Ray "Don" Hayes, 67, passed away at his Bigfork home on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003. Don was born Nov. 30, 1935, in Bryan County, Oklahoma, to George and Belle (Hunter) Hayes.
Don was raised in Oklahoma, attending and graduating school there. He moved to San Jose, Calif., where he met his future wife Linda Bohannon. They were married on Oct. 25, 1969, in Reno, Nevada, and had 34 wonderful years together.
In July 1960, Don started working for the San Jose Parks and Recreation as a maintenance supervisor. He retired in 1987. After retiring, Don and Linda bought a motor home and traveled extensively throughout the United States, finally settling in Bigfork three years ago.
Don was very active in his church as a trustee. His enthusiasm for fishing was unfounded. He was always devoted to his loving wife and family, especially his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, two sisters and a brother. He is survived by his wife Linda; daughter Tammy Graham; sons: Allen Hayes, Mark and Drew Graham; two brothers; three sisters; and 12 grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, Oct. 14, 11 a.m., at the Bigfork Christian Church with Pastor Dewey Obenchain officiating.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2411, Great Falls, MT 59403, or Gideons International, P O Box 153, Kalispell, MT 59902.

Dean Howard Dahlgren

Dean Howard Dahlgren, 76, passed away Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at his home in Bigfork. He was born Sept. 7, 1927 in Wakefield, Neb., to Paul and Violet (Johnson) Dahlgren.
Dean grew up on a farm in Wakefield, and graduated from Wakefield High School. After graduating, he took over the operation of the family farm, feeding cattle and raising corn and soybeans. He married Audrey Marie Haugan Sept. 18, 1956 in Sioux City, Iowa.
In 1975, he moved with his family to the Flathead Valley to manage Christmas tree farms in the area. He also spent five years managing the nursery operation at Eagle Bend Golf Course in Bigfork.
Upon retirement, he traveled extensively in the southwest during the winter months and enjoyed warm months on Flathead Lake.
Dean enjoyed gardening and landscaping. He was an avid hiker and a member of the "Over the Hill Gang," a group that has hiked weekly in Glacier National Park for the past 15 years. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He loved his family, friends and games of all sorts.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Dahlgren of Bigfork; two daughters: Jana Waryan and husband Kent with children Scott and Bryn of Denver, Colo., and Maria Ballantyne and husband Steve with children John and Andrew of Evanston, Ill.; one son Paul Dahlgren and wife Marcia and child Luke of Denver, Colo.; one brother Clarke Dahlgren and wife Charlotte of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and one sister Elsie Dyer and husband Don of Glenview, Ill.
Memorial services will be Friday, October 17, 1:30 p.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Jack Shannon officiating.
The family suggests memorials be given to Bethany Luther Church, 8559 Montana Highway 35, Bigfork, MT 59911, or the Nature Trail, c/o Bigfork Development Company, P.O. Box 486, Bigfork, MT 59911.
Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Mortuary & Crematory.

Ryan Wininger

Ryan Wininger, 18, ran joyfully home to his Savior surrounded and supported by his loving family at the San Diego Hospice Center on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003.
The eldest of Ron and Sheila Wininger's six children, Ryan was born in McCall, Idaho, on May 1, 1985. At five years old, he moved with his family to their home ranch near Somers on Spring Creek Road where he grew up a country boy among the mountains and lake that he loved. He was an avid hunter and fisherman most recently polishing his fly fishing skills.
He was a faithful member of the Valley Victory Church in Kalispell where he was active in the Youth Group.
Preceded in death by his beloved grandpa Evart Norvell, Ryan is survived by his parents, sister Marisa, brothers Caleb, James, Jordan and Landon, and special friend Heidi Hartunian.
He is also survived by his great-grandmother Esther Wininger of Payette, Idaho; grandfather Bob Wininger of Payette, Idaho; grandmother Arlene Clark of McCall, Idaho; Sue Gwaltrey of Hot Springs, Mont.; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and a host of friends.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Christian Life Center on 255 Summit Ridge Drive in Kalispell. A reception will follow the service.
Suggested memorials may be made to Ryan's Fund in care of Valley Victory Church, 2470 Highway 93 South, Kalispell, MT 59901, the Ronald McDonald organization, or the local Hospice program.

Mildred Lena Lardino

Mildred Lena Lardino, 96, died on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at Heritage Place. She was born on Nov. 21, 1906, in Chicago, to Emmanuel and Antonia (Pericone) Piazza. She lived in Chicago most of her life and was supervisor of the production line for the Zenith Corp. for more than 40 years.
She was introduced to James Lardino at a ballroom dancing contest and they later married in August 1925 in Chicago. He preceded her in death in 1996.
During the mid-1970s until 2000, she moved to the high desert and central valley areas of California, living in Apple Valley, Victorville, and Turlock. In Victorville, she was the monsignor's housekeeper at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church rectory.
She moved to the Flathead Valley in 2000 and lived at Big Sky Manor. In July 2001, Heritage Place became her home.
She enjoyed bowling and dancing, and while in Apple Valley, she enjoyed an opportunity to bowl with Roy Rogers. She was a former member of the Legion of Mary, a Catholic women's group in Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Phyllis and Mary, and brothers Frank, Joe, and Mike. She is survived by two daughters, Annette Phan and her husband George of Lakeside, and Marie DelBoccio and her husband Ernest of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a son, James Lardino of the East Coast; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jeannette Kukal of White Cloud, Mich.
There was a rosary service on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Somers. A funeral mass was celebrated Wednesday, Sept. 17, at St. Anne's. The celebrant was the Rev. Donald Shea. Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove, Ill., on Saturday, Sept. 20. The family suggests memorials to Heritage Place, 171 Heritage Place, Kalispell.
The family would like to thank the staff and management of Heritage Place for their compassionate care and love for Mildred while she lived there.
Arrangements were by Johnson Mortuary & Crematory.

Eileen H. Dodd

Eileen H. Dodd, 88, passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, at the Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell.
She was born June 12, 1915, in Hinsdale to Charles H. and Ella (Sackett) Harris. Eileen grew up and attended school in Hinsdale, and often traveled to Kalispell to visit her sisters that lived there. Eventually she moved to Kalispell and began working at the pea warehouse by the railroad tracks. She married Donald Dodd on April 24, 1937, in Kalispell.
Eileen was a homemaker and volunteered in Somers in the school lunchroom and school library. Many years ago, she was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, traveling, quilting and crocheting, playing the piano (by ear), and especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son Charles Dodd, and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Darlene Hayek and her husband Tom of Somers, and Geraldine Kay Bunker and her husband Don of Kalispell; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 10 a.m., at the C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery in Kalispell. The Rev. Peter Ramseth officiated. Eileen's grandsons served as pallbearers.
The family suggests memorials be given to the Immanuel Lutheran Home, 185 Crestline Ave., Kalispell, MT 59901.
Arrangements were under the direction of Johnson Mortuary & Crematory.

Delfred M. Brinkman

Delfred M. Brinkman, 90 ended his time on earth on Wednesday, September 17, 2003, at his home in Bigfork. He was born Nov. 28, 1912 at Leith, N.D., son of Fred and Emma Brinkman.
When he was two years old, the family moved to Montana where they lived on the family homestead north of Chinook. He attended country schools taught by his mother. At Chinook High, he was class president twice and an outstanding athlete, a member of both track and basketball championship teams. Del was always proud to be a Chinook Sugarbeeter.
In high school, he met the love of his life, Dorothy Watkins, and they were married March 8, 1934. They reared their family in Chinook. Del worked at the post office for 37 years, and he bought back the family homestead, converting it into a successful ranch. A true horseman, he could work a team of nine or "cowboy up" on an ornery bronc.
Upon retirement in 1973, he and Dorothy moved to Bigfork. A favorite pastime they enjoyed was fishing for salmon in Flathead Lake and sharing the catch with family and friends. For many years, they were "snowbirds" spending winters in Mesa, Ariz.
Del is preceded in death by his brother, Clair Brinkman. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Brinkman of Bigfork; a daughter Betty Brinkman of Harrisburg, Pa.; two sons, Fred of Billings and Bill of Bigfork; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Doris Newfeldt and Lona Chapman, both of Chinook.
A memorial service will be held at the American Lutheran Church in Chinook at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27. Memorials are suggested to the Bigfork Senior Citizen's Center, 639 Commerce Street, Bigfork, MT 59911.

Wyman T. 'Billy' Wells

Wyman T. "Billy" Wells, 81, passed away Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at the Lakeview Care Center in Bigfork. He was born April 12, 1922, in Bigfork, to George A. and Eliza A. (Hilling) Wells.
Billy was a live-long resident of Bigfork, and worked as a handyman for various people, including the State of Montana and the United States Forest Service. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. Billy enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Arthur, Robert, John, and Dick. He is survived by a brother George Wells and his wife, Doris, of Post Falls, Idaho; a sister, Mabel Helseth of Kalispell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 26, 10 a.m., at the Little Brown Church in Bigfork. Burial will follow at the Lone Pine Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 25, in the Johnson Mortuary Chapel from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Mortuary & Crematory.
