James M. Schantz
James Michael Schantz, age 76 of Forsyth, Montana passed away on Friday, July 2, 2004 in Forsyth, Montana.
Jim was born on November 3, 1927 at Fort Rice, ND the son of Basil and Catherine (Schmidt) Schantz. James was raised in Mandan, ND and in Miles City, MT. He attended schools in Mandan and moved to Forsyth in 1943, where he began working for the Northern Pacific Railroad. James was then drafted in the United States Army in 1946. He served in Japan during the end of WWII. After his honorable discharge from the service he returned to Forsyth and continued his employment with the railroad. James retired after forty-four years with the railroad. On February 14, 1986, James married Mildred Koylmyer in Forsyth, MT.
After his retirement, James enjoyed working in his yard and fishing. He was and avid sports fan and attended most of the home baseball and softball games at Riverside Park.
He enjoyed having coffee every morning at the Speedway Diner with his friends. James took care of his wife until she passed away in 2001.
He is survived by his two brothers, George Schantz and his wife Hazel of Forsyth, MT and Frank Schantz and his wife Margaret of Mandan, ND, a sister Jean and her husband George Paul of Mandan, ND, two step-daughters, Billie Rose Veach of Sheridan, WY, and Patsy Jo (Clarence) Brown of Miles City; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Schantz of Billings, MT and Rose Schantz of Miles City, and several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; his parents, two brothers, John and Casper and five sisters; Dorothy and Alice Schantz, Barbara Clevenger, Margaret Dyba, and Rose Creesy.
Visitation Services will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 from 1:00 to 7:00PM in the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at 10:00 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Forsyth. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Catholic Section in the Forsyth City cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the Rocky Mountain Cancer Foundation, Relay for Life or to a charity of ones choice. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Forsyth is in charge of these arrangements.

Catherine Giacometto
Catherine Giacometto, age 83, of Belle Creek passed away on Monday, March 13, 2006 at the family ranch near Broadus.
Catherine was born at Boyes, Montana at the family homestead on June 9, 1922, the daughter of Louis C. and Anna T. (Caretto) Trucano. She attended Boyes Country School, Ashland High School and graduated from Powder River High School in 1939. She remained on the family ranch until she turned 18, then she married John Giacometto on July 15, 1940 at St David’s Catholic Church. Following their marriage, they ranched in the Belle Creek area their entire life, living in a sheep wagon their first years. After retiring, they spent their winters in Del Rio, Texas and their summers back home in Belle Creek. John passed away on October 9, 2003 and Catherine has remained at the ranch ever since.
Catherine is survived by three sons: Louis Giacometto and his wife Mae of Belle Creek, MT; Lawrence Giacometto and his special friend Betty of Boyes, MT; Robert Giacometto and his wife Mary Jane of Rapid City, SD; a sister, Anita Wetherelt and her husband Wayne of Broadus, MT; nine grandchildren: Tom and his wife Donna, Roxanna and her husband David, Tammy and her husband Todd, Amber, John and his wife Renée, Jennifer and her husband Randall, James, Ellen and her husband Glenn, and Frances and her husband Jim, eighteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, two brothers: Jack and Charles, and a grandson, Ron Giacometto.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 17, 2006 at St. David’s Catholic Church in Broadus. A Vigil service will be held on Friday, March 17, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. at St. David’s Catholic Church in Broadus. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. David’s Catholic Church in Broadus. Rite of Committal will follow in the family lot in the Valley View cemetery in Broadus. A luncheon will follow the burial at the Community Center.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the local charity of ones choice.

William Morgan McClean
William M. McClean, 46, died May 21, 2005 in Wolf Point.
He was born on November 25, 1958 in Spokane, WA. To Helen and Pershing McClean. The family moved to Missoula, where Bill attended high school. He spent most of his life in this area, working various jobs including a small roofing company, and Columbia Paint.
Bill enjoyed the mountains, his friends, listening to music, reading about historical events, and was excellent in the game of darts.
Bill moved to Wolf Point in 1997 and worked at NAPA GY Supply until the time of his death.
He is survived by his daughter, Hannah Neutgens, of Wolf Point, and a son, Dylan McClean, of Missoula, MT.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2005. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.

John "Jack" Fisher
Jack Reynolds Fisher, age 88 of Ismay, MT passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 23 in Baker. He was born at the Fisher Family Ranch, the son of Billy and Fanny (Reynolds) Fisher. Jack grew up on the ranch with sister Evelyne and brother Bob and attended local country schools through the eighth grade.
After the death of his father, Jack carried on in the family businesses of horse trading and sheep ranching. He had a love of horses all his life, running and trading them all over Eastern Montana from the time he was a young teen. It was a time when there were few fences.
He worked for the CCC during the depression and ran rodeos for many years, among them the popular Ismay Rodeo. At one time Jack was a member of The Range Riders in Miles City.
He married Helen Cherry on May 29, 1976 in Miles City and they worked the ranch together for 28 years. In Jack's later years, he and Helen enjoyed their morning coffee groups as well as social activities in Baker, Ismay, Mildred, Fallon, Terry, Glendive and Miles City.
Jack is survived by his wife Helen Fisher of Ismay, MT; two step sons: Bing (Carol Hardesty) Cherry of Miles City, MT; and Don Cherry of Pasadena, CA; a step daughter, Cynthia (Mike) Schif of St. Charles, IL; a brother, William E. Fisher of Palo Alto, CA; two sisters: Gert Fisher of Miles City, MT; and Barbara Maner of Vurton, MI; a brother-in-law, Jack Dunbar of San Rafel, CA; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Kinsley of Stevensville, MT; and three step grandchildren: Darcy Turner, Donald Cherry, Maxwell Schif. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, sister Evelyne and brother Bob.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at 1:00 pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County cemetery in Miles City.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Donald Sterling
Donald Sterling, age 85, of Miles City passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2005 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.
Donald Theodore Sterling was born February 2, 1920 at Belfry, Montana to Josephus and Ida Sterling. He was the eighth child in a family of eight boys and two girls. Don attended Grade School in Belfry and Sonnette, Montana, and attended High School in Bridger, Montana.
On August 16, 1940 Don married Daisy Sunderland, of Sonnette, Montana, where they farmed and ranched. In March, 1945, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was sent to Tsingtao, China. Daisy and their first daughter Donna Jean stayed on the ranch along with Daisy's mother, Lena Sunderland, until he came home in September, 1946. They continued working the farm and had two more daughters, Linda and Vicki.
The family moved to Miles City in September, 1958. They purchased the Phillips 66 Bulk Station and service stations and made their home just outside of Miles City on South Haynes Avenue where one more child was born, Wendy. Don and Daisy continued to live there until October, 2000, at which time they moved to Forsyth, Montana.
Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Worthy Patron of Eastern Star, a member of the Powder River County Masons, a member of the Eagles and VFW, and spent many wonderful years traveling with the Good Sam Club, Miles Milers.
He was preceded in death by siblings Othel, Bob, Joanne (Smith), Clifford, Glen, Wayne and Doris (Peterson).
He is survived by his wife, Daisy of Miles City, daughter Donna Jean Dorris, husband Mike and son Michael of Mesa, Arizona, Linda Ehrle, husband Mark Taylor, her son Deon Carlson and her step-daughter Whitney Taylor of Billings, Vicki Peterson, her husband Rand, daughters Mandi and Jamie, of Boilings Springs, South Carolina, Wendy Branum, her husband Greg, daughter Devin of Miles City, brothers Joe and his wife Gene, of Kalispell and Jay, his wife Doris of Las Vegas, a special friend Howard (Bud) Ehrle, three special nieces Billie Knudson, Betty Stabio and Bonnie Lyda of Broadus, Montana.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veteran’s cemetery with full military honors provided by post #1579.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of ones choice.

Sarah Abbott
Sarah Abbott, age 91 of Miles City, Montana passed away on Monday, January 24, 2005 at the Fallon County Medical Complex in Baker, Montana.
Sarah was born as Sarah Scherer on April 30, 1913 in McIntosh County North Dakota. Her father was Jacob Scherer of German ancestry that lived in Russia. He migrated to America where he met Sarah's mother Eva Troutman. Together they had nine children: Rudolph, Leah, Pauline, Rachel, Anis, Ruben, Calvin, Ishmael and Sarah. Sarah spent her childhood in Pollock, South Dakota. She married David Wallace and to this union they had three children. Mildred (Millie), Frankie (Frank) and Walter (Wally).

She later married Art Peaslee. After his passing she married Jim Abbott. They lived Miles City for several years and then moved to Broadus. After Jim's death she moved back to Miles City for 21 years. She spent 6 months at the Friendship Villa in Miles City and then moved to Quality Personal Care in Baker to be closer to her daughter.

She loved her family and friends. Sarah spent many hours working on her quilts and woven rugs. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter Millie Molstad and her husband Dick of Baker, MT; sons: Frank Wallace of Dubois, WY; and Walter Wallace and his wife Lois of Ennis, MT. Grandchildren: Linda Molstad Johnson of Bozeman, MT; David Molstad of Salem, OR; Peggy Wallace House of Denver, CO; Joy Wallace Higgins, Sarah Wallace Marsyla and Tammy Wallace of Longview, WA, Carol Abbott Hirsch of Miles City, MT, great grandchildren: Christopher and Chad Johnson, Caleb, Rachel and Aaron Molstad, Jessica, Jennifer, Jackie, Michael, Brandi, Breana and Brittany Higgins, Nicole and Kistapher Marsyla. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands and all of her brothers and sisters.
Visitation will begin on Friday, January 28, 2005 at the Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2005 3:00 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery.

Ann Wolff
Ann (Hoagland) Wolff, age 65, of Terry, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at the Prairie Community Health Center in Terry, MT.

Ann was born on October 28, 1938 in Terry, MT, a daughter of Roy and Alvina (Vena) Hoagland. Ann attended first and second grades at Tacoma, WA where her dad worked at Shipyards during World War II. The family returned to Terry where she graduated from Terry High School in 1956.

On September 11, 1957, she and Ralph "Lefty" Wolff were married at Terry. They resided in Terry, Glendive and Baker then moved back to Terry in 1970. She worked at Reynolds Market for Dave and Lucille Covert, as Bookkeeper at Terry Community Hospital under Anna Hauck and from 1975 to 2002 she was employed by The Terry Tribune, doing general office work and bookkeeping.

She enjoyed spending time with her children and families, going to ball games, traveling, flower gardening and playing keyboard with the music teams at Terry Wesleyan and Fallon Evangelical Churches. She was a member of Ash Creek Homemakers Club.

Ann is survived by her husband, Ralph Wolff, one son Kelly Wolff and his wife Jody of Billings, MT, two daughters; Tana Ban and her husband Brian of Terry, MT, Angie Strobel and her husband Greg of Temperance, MI, five grandchildren, her mother Vena Hoagland of Miles City, one brother Gary Hoagland of Denver, CO, three sisters; Joan Wolff and her husband Leonard of Miles City, Karen Hanson and her husband Jim of Denver, CO, Bonnie Meek and her husband Hal of Saint Louis, MO. She was preceded in death by her father Roy Hoagland in 1983.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 13, 2004 at the Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Terry, MT. A Prayer service will be held on Friday, August 13, 2004 at 6:00 pm at the Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Terry. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2004 11:00 am at the Fallon Evangelical Church in Fallon, MT. Interment will follow in the Prairie County cemetery.

Victor "Sonny" Bearquiver
Victor “Sonny” Bearquiver, age 45 of Busby passed away near Lame Deer due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Victor was born the son of Claude and Genevieve (Hawk) Bearquiver on December 24, 1960 at Crow Agency. He was raised and educated in the Busby area. Sonny liked to fish, pick berries and travel around the country. He enjoyed spending time with his brothers and sisters as well as teasing his nieces and nephews. His current past time was taking care of his mother, chopping wood and getting reacquainted with his friends in Busby. Sonny married Venita Stops in 1992. Together, they made their home in the Crow Agency area.
We never knew where he would show up, but somehow he always managed to come back home.
He is survived by his daughters Xena Cloud, Clarice, Claressa and Shawna Stops; his mother Genevieve of Busby, his brothers Lyman (Ruth) Wolfchief, Harry (LouAnn) Wolfchief, Frankie (Lexi) Bearquiver, Richard (Debbie) Bearquiver, Edmund and Edward Bearquiver, Richard (Jan) Littlebear; his sisters, Norma (Ralph) Gourneau, Quintina (Kevin) Hawk, Martha (Curtis) Bearquiver, Mary (Mike) Bearquiver, Hannah (Gene) Bearquiver, Renee Bearquiver, Lauretta (El) Leon, Doncella Killsnight, and Theda Eaglefeathers; his sister-in-laws, Edwina Stops, Clemencia Stops and Connie Russell, his brother-in-laws, Micheal Stops and Clinton Stops. Sonny is also survived by his nephews Louie Longie, Joshua Parker, Garrett McCloud, Curtis, Tyree, Jeremiah, and Allen Longie, Selmer and Brian Redstar, Corey and Leslie Bearcomesout, Ryan Gourneau, Arnold Stewart, Niles Lyman Jr, and Jensen Wolfchief; his nieces Airell Bearquiver, Tonia Spottedwolf, Stephanie Bearquiver, Samantha McCloud Roseen Redstar, Amanda Longie, Lorelei Mann, Erica Bearcomesout, JoDean Eaglefeathers, Rhea Gourneau, Trina Wolfchief, Tashina and Morning Star Wolfchief, and Joyce (Tim) Cook; his aunts Beatrice Small, Annie Limberhand, and Irene Bearquiver; and his special friends Jimmy Limpy, Gene Speidel, Isaac Dust, Jimmy Biglake, Newton American Horse, Mary Ann Bear Below and Christine Stops-Stewart; and his traditional wives, Clemencia, Connie and Edwina.
Sonny was preceded in death by his wife Venita on March 6, 2006, his father Claude, as well as Dennis, Terra, Roy and Claudia.

Louis LaFloe, Sr.
Louis Robert LaFloe, Sr. at 83, of Wolf Point, passed away May 1, 2005 at Northeast Montana Health Services in Wolf Point of natural causes. He was born December 6, 1921 in Belcourt, ND to Robert and Delia Davis LaFloe.

Louis served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946. He worked as a newspaper printer for the Herald News, as a projectionist at the Liberty Theater and as a farmer. Louie married Rose V. Beauchman on February 17, 1952 in Belcourt, ND. Louis enjoyed hunting and bowling.

His wife Rose of Wolf Point; his three sons, James Brunelle of Minneapolis, MN, Louis LaFloe Jr. of Helena, and Mike LaFloe of Poplar; and his daughter Margaret Leggett of Wolf Point survive him. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 4 from 1 to 8 pm with a vigil service at 6 pm at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 5 at 10 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wolf Point. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery.
Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.

Irene M. Oberg Merry
Irene M. Oberg Merry, age 98, passed away November 16, 2004 at a nursing home in California. She was born November 26, 1905 in Grove City, MN to Mr. and Mrs. Hans I Oberg. At four years of age they moved to Rutland, ND and lived there thru her eighth grade. Then moved to a farm in Kidder, SD. She attended her first year of high school in Havana, ND and the other three in Britton, SD where she worked for her room and board to go to high school. She attended college in Aberdeen, SD and latter taught two years in North Dakota and two years in South Dakota. Then moved to Montana in 1929 where she retired from teaching 30 years in 1971. She was married to Hershel O. Merry on September 2, 1933 and to that union four children were born. During her life in Circle, MT she was active in Republican Women’s Club, Farm Bureau, Homemakers Club, Retired Teachers, Hospital Volunteers (Sec. Treasure 5yrs) Member of Immanuel Lutheran where she played organ. Then belonged to U.B Church of Circle. In 1989 they moved to Folsom, CA to a Senior Citizens Park and then a private nursing home in Eldorado Hills, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel in 1999, her parents, and her brothers and sisters, a great grandson, Tyler Prakled. She is survived by her children, Barbara (Bill) Arthur of Kalispell, MT, Arlin (Cheryl) Merry of Eldorado Hills, CA, Robert (Judy) of Great Falls, MT and Kenneth Merry of Circle, MT, one sister, Estelle Chambers of CA, 18 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, November 26, 2004 from 3:00 to 8:00pm at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Circle, MT. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 27, 2004 at 2:00pm at Evangelical Church in Circle. Interment will follow in Riverview cemetery. There will be a luncheon at the church following burial. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.

Hilda Fiechtner
Hilda Fiechtner, age 92, of Billings, formerly of Miles City passed away on April 14, 2006 at St. John’s Lutheran nursing home in Billings, MT.
Hilda A. (Hirsch) Fiechtner was born January 30, 1914 to Jacob and Annie Hirsch in Java, South Dakota. The family settled on a homestead in Crow Rock, Mt in 1915. Hilda married Emil Fiechtner on November 18, 1932 and they made their home in Java, SD for the next 9 years. Their daughter Janet was born on September 6, 1934 and in 1941 the family moved to Miles City, MT. Hilda worked for most of her life serving the public in grocery stores, restaurants, the Penguin Shop, Miles City Steam Laundry, and Friendship Villa. She enjoyed being around People. Her favorite times were spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she loved taking care of whenever she had the opportunity. She also enjoyed working in her garden, traveling, and visiting with friends over a cup of coffee. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City. In 1997 she moved to St. John's Lutheran Home in Billings, MT where she received special care and enjoyed the many devoted care givers. The family wishes to thank the care givers and Pastor for the kindness and comfort extended to Hilda and her family over her years at St. John's Lutheran Home.
Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister Edna Hirsch Schmidt, and a brother Edwin Hirsch. She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Fiechtner) Potter and husband Ray; granddaughter, LaRae (Potter) Weikert and husband Bill; son, Raymond Potter and wife Laura; great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Sarah Weikert, Kylie, Adam, and Nicole Potter; Her brothers, Alfred Hirsch and wife, Eunice; Ted Hirsch and wife, Ruth; Elmer Hirsch and wife, Marge; and sisters, Martha Finch; Ruth Thomas; Ruby Fields, and husband George; Gertie Fisher and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm with the family to receive friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2006 at 11:00 am at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Miles City, MT. Interment will follow at the Custer County cemetery in Miles City. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or to the charity of ones choice.
